Located across the IMAX.
Wine bar.

I couldn't ask for more, really.
People say there's so much wine around this area. Amador, Sonoma, Clarksburg, Napa.. You can taste different local area wines at this establishment.. They have 2oz. tastes, glasses, flights.. If you check-in on yelp, there's a deal for a percentage off bottles. They also offer bites to eat (including some desserts).

It's a comfortable space. I would definitely recommend it to any wine lover or curious ones..

Great wine selection from local wineries! Had my birthday toast here and all the staff are great. Greg, their Sommelier is the best. Jeff and Kate, thank you so much for my birthday champagne. Loved the smoked salmon! Relaxing ambience.

What a delicious way to try local wine!
We visited Downtown and Vine on Sunday Evening, with the hope of trying a few local wines. We were not disappointed. As we are not familiar with Californian wine, we asked for some advice. The staff are so knowledgeable - we simply described the style of wines we like to drink and they did the rest. After a tasting, we ordered two beautiful drinks and a delightful cheese platter featuring Cow Girl Creamery cheeses (which I have always wanted to try)
The setting is lovely, very elegant and stylish, yet comfortable and relaxed so you feel like you can unwind and enjoy a wine or two as if you were in a friend's lounge room.
If I lived in Sacramento this is the sort of place I would visit regularly.

What a great addition to the downtown area. Great selection of wine flights at a good price. Also, the grilled cheese menu! So good.

Loved it. The decor was nice, not what I expected. I expected it to be upscale but it also feels neat and clean and kind of homey, actually. It doesn't have a "bar" feel.
We sat at the counter but there is plenty of table seating as well. I ordered a glass but I love that they offer flights and tastes. Our bartender was attentive and unobtrusive - perfect. I ordered one glass of the Old Vine Zin and he made a recommendation for my second. The atmosphere was relaxing, not raucous. I definitely see myself coming here after work for a quiet drink with a friend or date. The place would even be great for an off-site meeting or a glass before dinner at Esquire, Mayahuel or Ella.
It's a great addition to the Capitol area... I wish they were open past 8, but hopefully in time they will be if people discover the place.

Located in a challenging part of K St mall this place is a gem. They were only open for a few weeks when I visited. The staff was very knowledgeable. There were some glitches in the menu as is with any newly opened business.

They are sourcing local food products: cow girl creamery for their red and white cheese plates. The charcuterie was unusual and outstanding: boar sausage, pheasant pate etc. Nice job.

The wines were ones I was not familiar with. They do 2 oz tastings, glasses or flights. They have 12 different wineries represented and 2 or 3 rotate.

They have a meeting room that seats 14 for a minimum F & B with a projector and screen. They have a reception space for about 30. Good mix of types of seating including a nice bar.

They have an outside patio that seats 37 which is right across from the IMAX theater. I talked with the owner and it is dog friendly and I may have a Yappy Hour event there in the spring!

Parking is not great. If you park at the Hyatt it is $15 for a couple of hours.

I love wine, there are to be no secrets about that, a glass of wine is my daily serving of, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" - hey it's made of fruit right?

Downtown and Vine is more of what Sacramento needs, another fine wine establishment. Their vintage selection are focused on local wineries and local wines they do indeed know - they evoke this oenologists vigneron sort of knowledge about their wines. I do, however, wish they'd expand their selection of wines from the Pinot rich area in Monterey like the Santa Lucia region. The staff's knowledge of food pairings is also very notable, in fact they actively advocate which wine goes good with what...but...

I don't know what they meant by, "I can't believe you drank that whole bottle of wine by yourself?!?" I mean, what else am I supposed to do with it?

If one were to incorporate all their best wine tasting experiences, cut out the drive, avoid the tourists, then throw in a homey dining setting and some great service, they'd end up up with Downtown & Vine.

A group of yelpers and myself gathered here for a special wine tasting a couple weeks back and we were all over the moon with every element of the experience. Owner Gregg and his staff were attentive yet also gave a space to sit back, socialize and enjoy the experience. We savored large pours of four different varieties, mostly from the Amador County and Napa regions. Each was paired with some elegant small bites in the form of bruchetta with ham, chocolates, cheeses, smoked salmon and more.

I would highly recommend Downtown & Vine to anyone looking for a high end yet fair-priced wine tasting experience in Sacramento proper. Either that or take your chances with a lengthy drive and tourists galore!

A Decidedly Delicious Wine-Tasting Experience!

SITREP

Yelp CM Alex L. invited a group of us Yelpers to this CMYE to experience a uniquie tasting of some of the region's best wines.

It was nice to get together to with a group of friends for a wine-tasting at the new wine spot, "Downtown & Vine". And not only was it a wine-tasting, but also a food-pairing experience, as we sampled bites with specific glasses of vintage goodness!

The beautiful thing about Downtown & Vine is that they are not "wed" to any specific winery or groups or wineries. Rather they feature a full variety.

SETUP

As a themed-format presentation, each month they represent 12 wineries as their "Tasting Room in the City."

This permits a very indepth and personal educational tasting experience of each of these wines by the taste, flight or glass. What's nice about this set-up is that, unlike some tasting rooms where you are standing elbow to elbow asking for another taste, Downtown & Vine offers an elegant seated experience.

And with the group we came with, you had several options to meet your comfort level:

*  You can choose a seat at the wine bar;
* You may take a comfortable table in the lounge; or,
* You may take a seat on the patio; or,
* You may make a reservation for a private room.

As it was, with our group of 30 people, we indulged in ALL of the above options, moving, and mixing around (except for the patio since it was COLD that evening!)

THE TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

* Started off with 2008 Iron Horse Classic Brut (Green Valley - Sonoma), an absolutely delightful bubbly which tickled my nose.

* 2011 Neyers Chardonnay (Carneros District) - our first taste coupled with a scrumptious bite of Spicy Ahi Tuna with capers. It was a good selection and the tartness of the Chardonnay nicely set off the flavor of the spicy tuna.

* 2010 DeLoach Pinot Noir (Green Valley - Sonoma) - a delicious full bodied red that was paired with roast duck. They each brought out each others nuanced flavors quite remarkably.

* 2010 Dillian Barbera (Amador) - this was paired with goat cheese and sourdough, and I could easily live off goat cheese and Barbera the rest of my life I loved them so much. To be forthcoming, this was my FAVORITE pairing of the night.

* 2008 Emblem "Oso" Cabernet Savignon (Napa) - it was a good cab with some more delicious cheese, so I will just say I wouldn't kick this pairing out of bed.

THE LOWDOWN

Whether an individual experience, but best in a group setting because of the mixing fun, Downtown & Vine is a decidedly enjoyable and MOST WELCOME addition to my K Street hood.

[This is a first: I believe in the ending survey asking for box checks in the Ambiance section, this is the first time I selected almost all of the boxes - except Divey, which Downtown & Vine is decidedly NOT.] ;^)

Attended the Yelp wine event last week. They have an excellent selection of wines and the staff are very knowledgeable with their pairings. The owners are very friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have as well as make a suggestion. Will definitely be going here more often.

I was privileged to attend a Yelp wine tasting event here and found the service, wine and food pairings all delightful. I can't wait to come back and drink more of their house champagne, Iron Horse Classic Brut, which a welcome surprise. I loved their local focus; Amador, Sonoma and Napa wines. Large loud groups can be hard to handle, but the staff were graceful and accommodating. I enjoyed the story about the bear at Mondavi Winery and also was pleased with the Michael Mondavi Oberon Merlot. With Cowgirl Creamery and De Loach on their menu I know I will be back to enjoy some Northern California pride.

Jeff and I attended a great yelp event here the other night. Convniently located directly across the street from the IMAX theatre on K Street, I think I might have missed it had Jeff not already been here (he found it after a dentists appointment- who does that? crazy guy!)
Anyhow, it was a great night.
As others have mentioned, the owners Gregg and Kate were fantastic hosts. We tasted a variety of wines paired perfectly with small bites of crostini and cheese. I like wine, but don't have a very sophisticated palate. I really enjoy it when someone tells me a wine has notes of say ...violets ...and all of a sudden I get what they're talking about!
Jeff and I will definitely be back. What a great way to bring the wine tasting experience of Napa right into Midtown!!

Yay! There's another wine bar in Sac and located in a great area- K street, near Ella's and Mayahuel. I found out about it through a Yelp event that I attended with John H. What fun! The owners Gregg and Kate were very welcoming and knowledgeable in the wine business.

Ambiance:
It's a chill place (I don't ever use this term but it perfectly describes the place upon walking in) with a nice bar, some very comfortable soft chairs, tables and a meeting room. You can definitely have a large group (about 20) celebration here.

Wine/Appetizers:
We had a selection of 4 wines ranging from Amador County, Napa, and Sonoma to taste. All were wonderfully paired with small bites of crostini's with various cheeses and toppings that were arranged on our plates in order according to the wines being tasted. Gregg and Kate spent time with us explaining each wine and the background information on where they come from. We bought the 2010 Dillian Barbera from Amador County. My second favorite was the 2011 Neyers Chardonnay from Carneros District.

This is a great place for a romantic date, getting together with some friends, or relaxing with some wine before going to dinner. It's quiet and intimate. I am coming back here and bringing friends! So happy I found out about this wine bar.

I've been to the other various wine bars around town and would happily recommend Downtown & Vine to any of my vino loving friends. While I am not a wine expert, I was really impressed with the quality and options for various flights. They also have what I think is the best cheese plate in town featuring Cowgirl Creamery (which you have to try if you are unfamiliar).

In addition to the sit down service, I noticed they have some very reasonable prices on bottles at the shop in front. If you are looking for a new wine bar to try or a nice place for a small bite, I would suggest putting Downtown & Vine on your short list.

This isn't a five-star review, because I've decided to get stingy with 'em. Felt like I was giving them out too easily.

Luci N. and I recently attended my first official Yelp event here. We both enjoyed finding a new wine bar; there just aren't enough here in Sactown.

Owners Gregg and his wife Kate have upgraded a former salon space into a wonderful wine tasting spot; long bar, private party rooms, off-the-beaten-track wine labels and a tireless run-down of every wine you'd like to inquire about. Gregg's as experienced and knowledgeable as any wine shop owner you're likely to meet, and he really loves his wines.

As you enter, you'll see tables throughout the airy space, with the bar along the left wall. A semi-private, screened room is in the back of the main area, and beyond that is a private room with seating for around 20.The main room's ceiling is a high arch and gives one the feel of being in an actual wine cellar - apparently it's a serendipitous leftover from the former tenant, but it works. Adding to the ambiance are the floor-to-ceiling windows up front, lit up at night by the Imax marquee. Very cool.

The wines chosen for our tasting represented four local wine regions. Each was paired with a different appetizer, and, each was described in detail by Gregg, including terroir, style, and even facts about the vineyard, winery and more. DeLoach, for example, was recently bought by Napa locals who have completely revamped the brand, vineyards, added new winemaker and - wow what a change in their wines.

Here's what we guzzled:

2008 Iron Horse Classic Brut sparkling wine, from Sonoma's Green Valley;
2011 Neyers Chardonnay, Carneros;
2010 DeLoach Pino Noir, Green Valley;
2010 Dillian Barbera, Amador County;
2008 Michael Mondavi Family Emblem "Oso" Cabernet Sauvignon. This one is simply labeled Napa, but it's actually from a single family vineyard on the renown Howell Mtn. The fruit hand picked by virgin maidens, no doubt.

This isn't a tasting review, so I'll just say we could have bought any/all of the wines we sampled; they were that delicous. We used the Yelp discount to score a bottle of the Dillian.

We'll definitely be back soon for more wine and to try their menu.

Beautiful space in the pedestrian mall area of K street downtown. This is a welcome addition to the area, a perfect spot to grab a drink before a movie at the IMAX across the way. There is a parking garage right next door, so if you don't grab street parking, you still don't have far to walk (the garage is spendy...for 2 hours, I paid $14).

I attended the Yelp Wine tasting event here last night, with a large group of people. Good mix of wine connoisseurs and relative newbies; we all got great treatment from the staff. Gregg, the owner, went over his and Kate's reasons for selecting their business, as well as why they chose the various wine regions they represent in their collection.

We were given pours of the following:
2008 Iron Horse Classic Brut sparkling wine (Sonoma). Did you know that Iron Horse is the wine of choice for American Presidents to serve to visiting dignitaries? No? Read more about that here...I was very impressed by the wine, by the way. http://inside-sonoma.com…
2011 Neyers Chardonnay Carneros)
2010 De Loach Pinot Noir (Green Valley)
2010 Dillian Barbera (Plymouth, Amador County)
2008 Michael Mondavi Family Emblem "Oso" Cabernet Sauvignon

They also gave us little bites of bread, cheese and meat to augment the wine tasting experience. Delicious.

I was torn between the De Loach Pinot and the Dillian Barbera, but in the end, the Barbera won (I love Barberas, what can I say!) We also got a 15% yelp check-in discount.

The wine bar is not that large, but the owners have done a great job of making it look spacious: light woods, beautiful white armchairs in little groupings, a long bar along the left as you walk into the main room, a glassed-in room towards the back...all make for interesting vignettes and keep your eye moving around the space.

I look forward to visiting this place again!

When I went to blow out the candles on my Birthday Cake (and there were a lot of candles), I thought long and hard about what to wish for. Certain ideas floated around in my head: more cats (but, James won't allow), oh, I know, more cats (but, Cloé, my current feline, won't allow), hmmmm...if I can't get more cats, then give me more wine! Yes, I want more wine bars in Sac! Well, it was like Dionysus himself had swooped in and granted my wish because before I knew it, Downtown and Vine had spouted right on K street!

It's really a breath of fresh wine to have the addition of Downtown and Vine to my wine bar picks. They focus on the concept of bringing the Wine Country to you, right in the heart of Sac! They feature 12 wineries, including some of Amador's finest such as Dillian and Fiddletown Cellars. You can get a flight, glass, bottle, or all of the above!

And, they have cheeeeeeseeee (plates and grilled cheese bar). Plus, they feature sweets from Andrae's Bakery in Amador (a bakery that Alex L. and Diane S. rave about. In fact, Alex's review says, "This famous local bakery is probably the single most important reason to visit Amador City." Oooh, don't let your Mom hear that Alex!).

We had a winetastic CMYE Wet your Wino Whistle Event here (trust me, my wino whistle is always wet!). The owners, Gregg and Kate, were very hospitable and incredibly knowledgeable about the wines. I had barely walked in and Gregg instantly placed a glass of bubbly in my hand. Now that's how to treat a lady! The event allowed us to sample an abundance of featured wines:

*2008 Iron Horse Classic Brut (Sonoma, Green Valley)
*2011 Neyers Chardonnay (Carneros District)
*2008 Michael Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)
*2010 DeLoach Pinot Noir (Sonoma, Green Valley)
*2010 Dillian Barbera (Amador County) - this one was my favorites of the night.

They also provided a mouth-watering cheese plate and crostini's with various cheeses and toppings. The cheese plate featured Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, mixed nuts with dried cranberries, a fig bread, and honey. Delicious!

I can't wait to go back and grab a glass of my current crush, Fiddletown Old Vine Zin! It's the perfect place to sit back, relax, and drink! I definitely plan to enjoy the patio once the weather warms up (maybe that should be my next wish!).

This is a great spot to try some of the best wines Northern California has to offer. The tasting room is open, spacious and modern. The staff is friendly and has great suggestions based on your palette. They have a private room in the back that is available to rent for events, and a semi-private room which is available for reservations (no additional cost).

PS - Don't judge me because the majority of my reviews are based on places I drink. I swear I don't have a problem!

I'm happy to see that such a cute wine bar has opened downtown. A group of colleagues and I went for drinks after work yesterday. I was disappointed to find out they don't do happy hour. If they did, I would come back often since the wines I had there were lovely. I had a flight of two DeLoach Pinots and a Neyers cab. The DeLoach Duvell Pinot was my favorite. I'll definitely be back...just maybe not as often as I'd like.

Gregg and staff do an exceptional job of being attentive, walking you through the tasting experience and providing an inviting atmosphere. Prices are great and the selection is perfect. The atmosphere is wonderful as well - relaxing, inviting and a perfect mix of urban upscale and inviting. Locals should be excited about having Downtown and VIne as a great option as well as visitors to the area. Cannot recommend enough!

Cool joint. Got to taste a bunch of wines I wasn't familiar with and had a great charcuterie plate - nice snack before I saw a movie with the wifey. Servers weren't stuffy wine jerks - nice people with a lot of knowledge. They also have a retail license - which is cool because we bought a bottle and snuck it into the movies! I will be back for sure.

We were staying at the Sheraton and our local friends brought us to this amazing spot. It is such a neat destination in downtown Sacramento - like spending a weekend in Napa and Amador and going all over the place to the best wineries' tasting rooms - but all in one beautiful place! The decor is elegant but warm and inviting, the bar is gorgeous, and they have cozy seating areas for two or more. We were lucky enough to meet Kate and Gregg, the owners, who walked us through a tasting of several wineries. They were so passionate and knowledgable, but completely down to earth and non-pretentious (I often feel so stupid when I go to wine bars or talk to the sommelier at restaurants, but not here, which is refreshing.) Kate personally prepared for us amazing local cheese and charcuterie plates with the most delicious cheeses I have ever tasted (and this to-die-for honeycomb garnish that I'm now looking all over for!) Kate also showed us their private room with this gorgeous table made out of champagne riddling racks - an amazing place for a corporate event or party. With Gregg's help, we picked out some wines to take home with us from their retail area, and I brought one of them to my friend's dinner party over the weekend - she is very knowledgable about wine and was so impressed with the bottle i brought! This is a really special place. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors. We will definitely be back.

Excellent urban winery highlighting the best of Amador County vineyards. We stopped here before a movie on Sunday night, one of the few places open past 6pm on K street.
They just opened on Friday and are still waiting for some of their licenses, as such we could only have wine from one winery but it was very good. They are suppose to get other licenses this week. You can get a flight of three wines for nine dollars, a glass of wine, or a two ounce taste. I had a glass of sauvignon blanc and my husband had the flight with red and white wines. He got to choose what he wanted for his flight which I think is a nice touch.
They offer small and large plates and we ordered the olives which were a great mix of green and black and slightly spicy with a hint of lemon. They also gave us complimentary nuts which went with the wine perfectly.
The ambiance is very welcoming, a blend of casual upscale elegance. They have plenty of seating at the bar, tables for four, and lounge chairs for parties of two. There is even a private table in the back perfect for larger parties. I can see this place becoming a five star destination quickly and I am glad I got to experience before all the hype. I can't wait to go back to try their sparkling wines, smoked salmon, and grown up grilled cheese. Great spot for a relaxing drink when near K.
