Solidly in the A-OK category: decent food, good prices, friendly service. Not a place that's gonna blow you away, but it serves its purpose.

We stopped in for a quick dinner before car-buying adventures down the street. This place is sort of oddly set up, with three big dividing walls and a few smaller ones in odd places. The dining area is divided into two uneven sections, and then the bar is also somewhat separated.

We were seated promptly (by the bus boy? there didn't seem to be any dedicated hostess) and served pretty quickly too.

I went for a fried fish sandwich and fries; sandwiches and burgers are served with soup so I had turkey dumpling. It was definitely tasty and a nice pre-meal warmup. My sandwich was a little meh and I think I choose poorly -- the cheese was a little congealed (probably should have skipped it) and the fish filet was pretty small compared to the bun. The fries were just fine.

My husband's burger was, on the other hand, a bit too big for its bun, and looked pretty tasty. So if we were to return, I think I'd go for a burger or chicken sandwich. He got homemade potato chips, and I snagged one.

Our waitress was competent and friendly, and her signature phrase was "no problem" to everything, which I think just means I'm getting old. :)

I don't think we'd go out of our way to return, but it's not far so if I happened to be rolling down Ogden in need of an inexpensive meal, I may give it another shot.

Not to beat the dead horse that Valerie W. already put out there, but I had to add just a few things. The variety of burgers on the menu made my mouth water. After a digital conversation with Brooke H., I had to try it.

I love when burger joints offer me a junior size. I know...it's probably not American to say this, but I don't actually want a gigantic burger that I have to break my jaw to get in my mouth (blame the TMJ. blame the fact that I'm likely to spill burger juice on my clothing. blame anything but me, really). So I was pleased to discover the 1/4 lb burger on request.

The Texas Western Burger was actually pretty good. I would probably order it on a legit bun next time (The pita "bun" was really two slices of pita with burger and stuff in between).

Despite my unbridled passion for cheese, I base the French onion soup on the broth flavor and DuPage Inn wins my vote for that. (I always find the cheese too rubbery to full enjoy on the baked soup).

When I received my chips (after asking for them 10 minutes after receiving our burgers), I was disappointed that they were soggy and tasted like they had been sitting out for several hours. When I order "house made chips" I suspect that they will be fresh and crispy and delicious. Sad day.

Overall, not bad...but I have to say I prefer Shanahan's burgers.

I hate starting reviews with "I really wanted to love..." but, unfortunately, this is the case with DuPage Inn.

My pal Chrissy W. read a one-line review of DuPage Inn by one of her friends, and immediately contacted me to meet for burgers for lunch. After checking out the menu, I decided I was definitely down, and the fact that it's 5 minutes from my office helps too.

We were seated right away, and the server was nice, a little heavy on the "honey's and sweeties" for my liking, but, nice. We each ordered a burger, mine was the tavern burger, which boasted swiss cheese, crisp bacon, a pretzel roll, and a side of honey dijon dressing. Chrissy went with the Texas western burger. We both ordered the "junior" since it was lunchtime, I with fries, her with homemade chips. We both also started with french onion soup.

The soup was decent, but I really don't like when restaurants use mozzarella instead of swiss or gruyere on their french onion.

The burgers came far too fast to believe they were cooked to order (the server also asked for what temperature we'd like them cooked at, but that request obviously didn't mean much, they were both medium well to well, even though we'd both specified medium rare.) The side of honey dijon on my burger was non-existent, and I didn't realize it until I'd already put regular mustard on my burger. The bacon was indeed crisp, but the "swiss" cheese wasn't swiss at all, it was white American (the same stuff Subway gives you.) Don't try to pass off white cheese as swiss just because it's white. Especially not in front of my cheese connoisseur friend, Chrissy W. The fries were skinny (think steak and shake).

Chrissy had to ask for her chips, as they didn't come out right away.

All in all, the flavors were okay, but nothing I'm running back for.

I had a cheese burger with mushrooms and onions. The burger was awesome. However, the mushrooms were like show leather. I could not chew them port cut them. The manager said I got some of the stems. These weren't stems and I don't like excuses. I would go back for a burger. It was that good.

Drove by this place a million times and had never stopped in until last night. The shady dive bar looking exterior always kept me away but after work last night I was looking for some quick food that wasn't fast food and you don't have many options at 11 o'clock at night. I was extremely pleasantly surprised, while the outside looks dive bar-y, the inside was quite cozy. I sat in the bar area and was quickly greeted by a server with a menu. Very nice woman. I told her I could not decided between the chicken strips or potato skins and she informed me I could change the side of fries for the skins for a $2 up charge. Well worth it. The potato skins here are fantastic! The strips were your average chicken tender but I really feel like chicken tenders are one of those stand by foods because it tastes the same pretty much anywhere. They had a special on your basic beers such as bud light for $3.50 which I chose to pass on since I was going out afterwords but maybe next time. Only complaint was that it took a little long for my refill but the service was still very attentive otherwise. Definitely a fun place for the area that's worth checking out.

After running errands in the area, we were starving, so he said, "I hear this place has good burgers." He's lived in the Downers Grove area almost his whole life, so I couldn't believe he hadn't been here before.

He was right - the burgers were the BEST I've had ANYWHERE. I ordered the Wisconsin burger. A burger patty with American, pepperjack, cheddar, and another cheese I don't remember. Swiss, maybe. The cheese:burger ratio was perfect for a cheese lover like myself. I don't like thick burger patties, and I don't like paper thin burgers either. DuPage Inn's burgers are perfect! He had the Tavern burger, which had bacon, swiss, honey dijon mustard and came on a pretzel roll. We both devoured our burgers but couldn't quite finish them.

The burgers also come with soup AND fries. The turkey dumpling soup had dumplings the size of an infant's foot. It was just okay. My husband had the chili, and he really liked it. The fries were hot. We were starving, so we also ordered mozzarella sticks. Not all mozz sticks are the same, and I really liked the gooey, almost liquid, texture of the cheese. Wasn't a fan of the marinara sauce, it had meat in it, but that's just a preference.

Total cost for appetizer, 2 burgers (came with fries and soup) and 2 sodas = $35 after tax. Can't beat that.

DuPage Inn has that cozy, tavern feel to it. Don't mistake the dark wood and colonial looking booths for outdated decor - the food is what's important here.

I will definitely be back!

This place is an old school bar with really good food. The decor is nothing memorable but their strong drinks and good food make up for it. I had a french dip and mashed potatoes which also came with soup. I got a large portion of yummy comfort food and had plenty leftover for a second meal. You get a good bang for your buck here. Not the kind of place you go to if your looking to impress someone but if your in the area and want a good drink and a good meal this is for you.

My friend and I picked this place for lunch because it's halfway between our homes. After suggesting it (or after http://meetways.com did), I was a little apprehensive because of the mixed reviews here on Yelp. I'm particularly turned off by lack of cleanliness... but the decision had been made, so off I went.

I was happy to find that DuPage Inn had apparently cleaned things up since other reviewers described it as dirty, sticky and other unattractive adjectives. Carpet was a little worn, but it was otherwise clean and large enough to have a nice diningroom on one side separated from the bar on the other side. (BTW, ladies' bathroom was clean, too!)

The giant burgers (most $9.50 each incl. soup or salad plus a side) are supposed to be great, and there's a large variety on the menu. I was happy to see that you can order any burger as a "junior" and save calories and a few bucks. Also, about 10 options are available for sides, so you can substitute for the french fries if you're eating healthy. The junior mushroom/swiss burger I had was good, served hot, and plenty to eat for lunch. Many other choices on the menu should please most diners.

Service was very attentive but not overbearing. I'll be going back with my hubby to try to Fri. fish fry. That will be the true test! :-)

So my friends and I started this tradition of hitting up an "unknown" place as in a bar we haven't been before before our destination. Last weekend we were going to Rita's Roadhouse but thought we'd hit up one of the local watering holes on the way for a pitcher or two.

I thought this place may have been all bar, but it's split...restaurant on the left when you walk in, bar on the right, and you can eat in both.

I heard the cheeseburgers are good here so I will be back...also they have a good $25 for two entree deal where you get an appetizer, choice of entree (there is a list to choose from) and dessert. The entree comes with soup or salad & potato. I WILL be back here to eat sometime.

The service was good. I will be back.

Sticky!
Everything I touched was dirty or sticky. I'm not a germaphobe, but man please clean this place. It boasts being there since 1923. It ceratinly is dirty and dingy enough to be that old.
The food was surprinsingly mediocre.
I am such an advocate for individual owners and try to frequent local businesses.
Sad that this place just doesn't get it.

I used to think the food was alright until my mom got salmonella poisoning after eating a burger here. I don't find the place to be clean and they clearly don't handle the food properly.

A good place to meet friends for an inexpensive meal and drinks. The burgers are the best, but the menu is huge and you can't go wrong. Staff is always friendly and the owner is usually walking around and happy to talk. Just the right mix of sports, music and neighborhood watering hole. Although we usually eat in the bar area, there is a large dining area separate from the bar and a patio open in the summer. One of our favorite hangouts

I get the feeling that this place used to be really fun and popular. Now it's kind of got that sad, quiet feel to it.

That said, we did have some fun here: For a dollar you can get two songs out of the jukebox!

The waitress was very attentive and professional. I ordered the chicken and vegetable special of the day. It was a weird plate: Chicken atop grilled peppers and onions, a scoop of cottage cheese with peaches, lettuce and tomato, a handful of black olives and a hard boiled egg. Strange, but the chicken was delish! My man ordered a French dip sandwich. He said the roast beef tasted old. The meals came with soup, we tried both: vegetable and French onion. Very yummy soup, tasty without being too salty.

Yeah, not totally impressed with the food, but I didn't hate it. And the waitstaff was great.

If they got a pool table in there and recovered all the worn out chairs, I might not be opposed to going back.

Our meal cost us $31 before tip.

Yikes ~ what has happened? The burgers are still good, but the place desperately needs to be cleaned. I do not even want to try and guess the last time the carpeting has been cleaned. And to be seated at a dirty table when we were the only ones in the dining room is beyond explanation.

Great place for an after work cocktail. Every night has a drink special, and the prices are reasonable. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive too.

I know a lot of people enjoy the food here, but I've never been a big fan. I've never had a burger here, which is something that people rave about. I've mainly had the appetizers, which are very average. The wings are pretty good, but it seems like the fried stuff is cooked in oil that is not fresh. The nachos are kind of bland, with the main ingredient on top being shredded head lettuce.

I would definitely recommend the outdoor deck area in the summer.

I'll mention something I don't see in the other reviews. The OUTSIDE BACK DECK.

yes, you can't really see it from the street- but it's just great in summer. shade, flowers, warm sun, very interesting bar fly characters.

one of the BEST, if not the BEST- outside places in the downers/ lisle area.

try it the next warm spring day when you are dying to sit in the sun for the first time in months.

I've been there several times over the last couple of years. It is a good standard neighborhood type bar. Food is typical bar food. Some dishes are tastier than others. Good but not outstanding. Drink prices are standard. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly. The bar has a cozy atmosphere. My main complaint is that it is way too loud. The jukebox is always soooo loud and the music on it is not my cup of tea. Seems like the younger customers like that blaring "noise" they call music. Other than that I like the place and will continue to go there once in a while.

This place has the feel of a Wisconsin bar during football season. Beer, heavy food, lots of high top tables, bar seating and dinner tables - almost always full.

The burgers are their signature item and for good reason. They are made the old-fashioned way on a flat top griddle that gives it a little outer crust and juicy inside. Although, everything seems to come out cooked the same whether you ask for medium rare or medium well.

Ya, hey dare, dis is da spot.

Just average.

Met some friends here because we heard they had a tasty burger and it was the midway point between our two locations.

The service from our waitress was good but I was kinda surprised at the huge amount of waitstaff (on the clock?) that were just standing around. Maybe they were just waiting on the Friday night rush but they were doing it in the bar/dining area. Never really experienced that before.

Drinks were okay. Burger was okay. Average, nothing special. I wouldn't refuse to go there again but then again I wouldn't make a point of it either.

When I want a burger, I go to the DuPage Inn. This place has been around forever, and it looks it but that gives it character. I used to go to the DuPage Inn when I worked in the area about 10 years ago and then forgot about it until a little over a year ago. I took my husband there for lunch once and we have been back for lunch and dinner several times. He has tried a variety of items from burgers and sandwiches to full dinners and he claims he has never had a bad meal. I get a burger every time we go; I figure why mess with perfection. They also serve saginaki (Opa!) YUM!!!
DuPage Inn is just a nice neighborhood place with consistently good food. We've had ups and downs with servers but for the most part the servers have been quick, polite and friendly. They keep my glass of ice tea filled which is what I rate all waitstaff on - they may not be able to control the quality of food or the speed of the cooks in the kitchen but they can control whether they keep me hydrated or not.

Not too great of a place. Kinda old and run down and the burgers are bad. The service was slow the night I went and I think this place would be better off as a rooming house nthan a restaraunt and bar. They wouldn't have to change names. They also need to get some recent flat panel TV s by now to keep up with the Jones and other bars nearby

Pretty good burger! Have I had better, yes....but overall its pretty tasty! The place reminds me of an old 1970's everybody knows your name type of bar. Lots of locals and friendly waitresses. Prices here are excellent! There is a HUGE lot for parking and an outdoor patio, I will definately be going back!

This place does serve a tasty burger. If you are not calorie conscious then try a 1/2lb. Gyro Cheeseburger. Allow me to explain this concept, you take a 1/2 lb. burger then layer it with Gyro meat and top it off with grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese. Side of cucumber sauce goes great for dipping the sandwich and fries in.

It is a Greek owned business so I thought I try the Greek Style Chicken. However I did not want to wait 30 minutes for them to bake it. So the waitress suggested I order a Greek Style Chicken Breast off the grill topped with melted feta cheese and a side of Rice Pilaf. WOW! Thanks for the recommendation, I am a fan now!

There is a bar inside for those looking for a beer and shots separate from the family dinning area. You can still of course order off then menu there as well.

We have gone here a few times a few years back for their burgers. They have REALLY good burgers!! This was back when you could smoke in places, and the place got a bit smokey and loud from the regulars in the bar area, but it didn't stop us from going back and bringing some friends with us, who also enjoyed their burgers. I think that is all we ever got there...so I really can't comment on their other food. But the burgers were juicy and cooked the way you want! After reading some other reviews, it looks like I should try some other items here, too, so I will have to go back and do so!

P.U.!!! Would have been a one, but the food was decent. Horrible loud, gin mill atmosphere and a smoke haven. On the up side, if you still smoke, you have somewhere you can hang out and have a burger, because no one is going to complain about your skunkiness here.

This is a tough one.

It seems that they couldn't choose between being a typical Greek Pancake House, or an American Lounge.

I was hoping for the typical lounge restaurants of Michigan, but they are thematically confused.

One half is a locals bar, and the other looks like the Omega.

Prices were too high for the typical frozen food dropped in a fryer quality.

Service was slow and the orders got messed up.

Probably better for adults on a a summer night patio food and drink fest.

Update: Went there for fish and it was pretty tasty.

Very good food and reasonable prices. The Greek style shrimp are one of a kind as is the Blue Island Skirt Steak. The saganaki is exquisite and done in the old-fashioned way.
During the summer, there is an outside patio.
There is smoking in the bar and you have to go through the bar to get to the bathrooms--you will reek of smoke.
