This Jersey Mike's Subs opened this summer near the Chase bank on Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn. Â A couple of co-workers and I decided to give it a try. Â We were cheerfully greeted when we walked in the door and asked if it was our first time there. Â They enthusistically explained the menu options.
I ordered the Original Italian which is your standard Italian sub drizzled with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Â Jersey Mike's is different than most chain sub shops in that they slice your cold cuts when you order your sandwich. Â They bake bread on the premises and while the bread is not as good as a Gonnella or D'Amatos it IS much better than Subway's offerings. Â As a matter of fact, Subway isn't even in the same league as JM. Â Jersey Mike's has a superior product.
While finishing our meal, the owner stopped by and asked us how we liked our sandwiches and chatted a bit with us. Â He gave each of us a coupon for chips & a drink with our next sub order. Â I thought that was a neat touch. Â Frankly, I would come back even if I didn't have a coupon. Â Although JM will need to work hard to top the independent sub purveyors (like Mario's or Serino's) I give them the nod over all of the other sub franchises. Â A good solid sub.
