Bende's is a Hungarian grocery & deli. This may be the cleanest grocery I've ever seen. You could eat off the floor. Heck, you could eat off the asphalt in the parking lot! Pristine. Spotless. Sparkling.
We come to Bende's for the delcious smoked meats & sausages (you MUST try the pork loin!), the best price on authentic Prosciutto di Parma (sliced to order) & the lowest case prices on San Pellegrino water. We also like to buy Guylian Belgian chocolate fruits de mer, Jules Destrooper cookies and whatever else strikes our fancy. It's fun to explore the tidy shelves for new-to-us European snacks & products. Check out the selection of beers too.
You've probably driven by this location on Roosevelt Road a million times. You really should stop in and explore.
This is a complete specialty store. Â It is Hungarian and they sell many things that you can't find at too many places in the US. Â My wife is Hungarian, so we stop up here every couple of months (we live 2 1/2 hrs away) and stock up on the a few things. Â Definitely recommend the salami and sausages. Â They also have a nice selection of beer and spirits that you won't find elsewhere. Â Definitely not cheap, but where else can you find this stuff?
Review Source:I mostly buy sweets here, though they have a very meat-heavy deli and a good alcohol selection from various interesting places. Â Italian groceries are available too (various types of canned/jarred olives, roasted peppers, etc.), in addition to French jams and a wide selection of Haribo gummi items. Â There's a small HBA section with European shampoos, soaps, etc. Â They have slices of bakery cakes (an excellent moist Opera cake), and I didn't expect to find Armenian brandy, well, anywhere...
It's the holidays, so they have spekuloos, the addictive Belgian spice cookies. Â Hurray. Â And don't miss the selection of fruit syrups; raspberry syrup is less than $5 a bottle, which is my buy price.
