It's a fine Irish pub. Â Not nearly as large or as nice as it's sibling location in Montclair.
A decent selection of beers, and all of the food is a solid version of what's more or less your standard bar food. Â However, they do offer a variety of interesting dinners, though admittedly I have yet to have dinner there.
The back outdoor patio is nice in the warmer weather.
Amazing interior!! Â Very well done. Â Too nice for that area of west orange but very welcome. Â The menu is limited and the food is just ok. Â Some things are better then others. Fish and chips and nachos are decent and the burger was good but small, doubt it was 8oz as advertised. Â Definitely pass on the fish tacos but get the sweet potato fries they are good. Â The bread pudding for desert was a miss. Â Service is strange. It's almost as if a bunch of inexperienced kids are running the place while their parents are away. Â Also too many bus boys. Â Place is never busy and they constantly see if your finished because they have nothing else to do. Â Waitresses could easily do that job too. Â
3 stars because it is the best place in downtown West Orange.
While the bar staff here are way friendlier than the Montclair location, I didn't find the food to be on par. Â Ordered the ribs, which I regularly order in Montclair. Â Seemed completely different and so full of fat I was unable to finish them. Â Coleslaw completely different as well. Â For the same prices, I would have expected more consistency.
Review Source:Went there for wine and appetizers. The wine list is low priced...most bottles were in the $30 range. Â
Enjoyed the pork sliders, nachos and potato skins....all were very good and good portions.
Nice look. Nice bar. Mixed crowd. $8-$12 ea.
Might go back one day to enjoy their outdoor section when warmer weather comes.
It was OK.
Stopped in to meet up with an old friend, who chose this place having been to the Montclair location. Really great ambience, especially around the holidays. The bartender was super nice. We had some beer and wine and nice and hot fried calamari. It was desolate on a Thursday at happy hour, hope its more crowded otherwise! Check it out if you live nearby.
Review Source:I'll preface this by saying I used to work at the Montclair location and worked in the West Orange location on a few occasions.
Although this location has the same Irish pub feel to it as the location in Montclair, the West Orange location has much more of a sports bar feel to it. Lots of TVs and they have the NFL Sunday ticket and really cheap specials to go along with it. A bucket of Coors Light was going for $5 last I was there and the wings and beef brisket were awesome.
The rest of the menu is very similar to the Monctlair location and they do specials as well. The prices are not a whole lot cheaper here. The wine prices are, but that's because the selection is not as good. Instead of paying $8 or $9/glass, you might pay $5
Last I was there, they had at least one TV for every NFL game, but the Steelers fans got dibs in the outdoor area in the back. I have no idea how this came to be, but as a Ravens fan, this only makes me happy twice a year (when the Ravens play the Steelers).
When Steeler-nation is not out there, the tiki bar is cool to hang out at in the summer and they have plenty of tables for outdoor seating.
Came here for a quick dinner and drinks with a friend. The Asian chopped salad was pretty good, as were thue steak tips. Everything was a slightly oily, though. Good drink specials and the service was great.
Too cold to sit outside last I was there, but the outside space looked like a good spot to post up with people in the warmer months.
Went for lunch. Sat in the outside area in the back.
Just us and 2-3 other tables. Service was painfully SLOW even though no one was inside either.
Sliders - not so great. Fair, but not something I would order again.
French fries so thin the only reasonable way to get them into your mouth would be to use a funnel. I couldn't  pick them up with my fingers without half falling back to the plate, I couldn't use a fork because they were too thin. They were so thin they could have been splinters of birch wood for all I know.
I have to mention the SLOW service again. I had to stop eating because I was so damn thirsty and the waitress was nowhere to be found. I had to get up and ask the bartender inside for water which pissed me off. Â I'm not lazy, but I don't have the patience (or time) to wait for a server who disappears randomly in the middle of lunch.
I like that its not as crowded as the location in Montclair, but the service totally sucks for lunch. Dinner may be better.
The architecture is great and has high quality finishes.
Ladies room was very classy, but I'm not adding any stars for ladies room.
Small space but if you don't mind a wait, its a really great addition to the valley in West Orange.
Like in the Montclair location, the menu is generally  Irish pub fare with some diverse additional opinions from India, Southern USA, Greece, and France. I have had most entrees on the menu, but the BBQ ribs, shepherds pie, and burgers are standouts. The only meal I' d say was a disappointment was the fish and chips. The batter is just way too much, to the point of completely overtaking the fish. Too doughy.
Parking is ample because there is a public parking lot across the street.
West Orange has a cool-ass pub! Â Awesome!
My favorite part of Egan and Sons is their beautiful patio out back. Â They managed to really keep it secluded from the neighbors and it's big enough for a several tables and a cute little tiki-ish bar with a big screen tv. Â Cute little lights strung along the wall too!
Egan's has a pretty good selection of beers, including their own brews. Â As far as food, I've enjoyed all the soups I've ordered thus far. Â Tasty burger, yummy fries, great mashed potatoes. Their falafel platter app is yummy and the right price.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a waiter at the Montclair E&S.
For starters, there is a pretty decent parking lot across the street. It is meter parking, but is pretty cheap.
The decor is very similar to the Montclair Egan's but is different at the same time. You can tell that there was a lot of attention spent on the details and everything seems pretty well done and put together. There is a small cafeish area right in the front and then high top tables along the span of the bar (we sat in this section). There are a ton of TVs and the high tops by the bar each have thier own tv which is cool if you are coming in for a specific sporting event.
The menu is very similar to the Montclair location. I went specifically to get the arugula orzo salad which wasnt on the menu but was a special. I added chicken to it and it was delicious. Mixed drinks were good and the beeer selection is vast. I wish I could talk more about the food, but in our party of 5, 4 of us got the salad. My friend got the ribs and said they were great. We also hda the mussles which are a favorite of mine and they were delicious. The broth really makes it. Â The "scene" is quite different from Montclair and is very nice. I would go back again and recomend this to friends.
