Favorite Mexican restaurant. I love the shrimp tacos with Spanish rice. They always cook everything fresh. It is a fun place. Even their fountain drinks are good. I love their chips and salsa and the meals include a yummy soup. Can't beat the price and the food is always outstanding! We are usually here once a week for our shrimp taco fix :)!

This is by far our favorite place for mexican food. We're here at least every other week. Staff is friendly, portions are plentiful and reasonably priced. Most dinners come with soup as well. They have good Margarita's, so my wife says. The owner works just as hard as anyone else here.

Took my wife and mother in law there for lunch today and the only reason why I can't give them 5 stars, THEY HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONING! I realize it's 103 out, but the fans didn't even help.

UPDATE 7/15/12 THE AIR CONDITIONING IS WORKING! Yay

It's so hard to find good Mexican food in Illinois let alone McHenry County.  This place is great.  To me it has the right feel from the buzzing lights to the complementary  soup that is served what seems like randomly.  Some days we get it and some we don't.  It's not that cookie cutter place with no soul.  You come in here and get great food done right at a great price.  You can watch as the cooks work the flat top right in front.

We love this restaurant. The food is really good and the prices are great. I love their soup too!

This is our top mexican restaurant in the crystal lake/algonquin area.

If you're looking for good Mexican food with fantastic service in the Northwestern suburbs, El Burrito is what you're looking for. My boyfriend and I have been here several times and the food has always been great for the price and the service is wonderful, we've never been disappointed! Very authentic, margaritas, horchata, and soups are amazing!

If you go on Cinco de Mayo, be wary, you'll wait in line forever to get a table, but you'll get free tequila shots with dinner!

Can't believe so many high reviews for this place - Ithought it was horrible - I ordered a staple, steak burrito....."steak" was all about the size of a pencil eraser....and tasted about the same....CL needs an El Famous Burrito....

Only reason it's not 1 star is because it's a burrito joint , and in my book....Burrito's are like $@#.....even when they're horrible, they're still pretty good....

This is seriously my favorite restaurant in the world. I go here all the time and have never been disappointed. Everything I've tried - burritos, tostadas, enchiladas, tamales, horchatas, soup - has been fall-down delicious. Best Mexican food around - and I've eaten a lot of authentic, home-cooked Mexican meals. I still like this more.

Not to mention it has the coolest staff there is. The proprietor is a really nice guy and all of their servers are terrific as well.

I recommend this place to everyone I know, and I recommend it to everyone reading this review!

This place was fabulous. The food was great. Even though it's kinda of a run down decor it was clean. Plus it's cheap. I got an appetizer, dinner, desert and a margarita for 20 bucks!

El Burrito is the best place in town for Mexican food. They have a little bit of everyhing on the menu. The fajitas are excellent, as well as the lengua tacos.

The only item I've found to be disappointing was the rabbit - you could tell it was frozen, not fresh.

Fantastick margaritas, affordable prices and a super friendly staff make this a regular Friday night stop.

If it's one thing my Chicago-native fiance has taught me about Mexican food, it's that the divey looking places are pretty reliable. I was resistant to his opinion at first, but El Burrito helps prove his point. It's not quite a real dive, just nothin' fancy.

They have good, moist tamales (only chicken), tasty beans and fresh homemade chips. The guac didn't really have anything to offer.

Maybe the atmosphere isn't a great spot for a date night (though if you were considering a bean-heavy meal for a date, you were probably on the wrong path anyway) but it's great for a tasty dinner out with friends or family that won't break the bank.

When you go to El Burrito, here's what you can expect:  The typical refried beans and rice along side standard Mexican fare such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc.  However, the taste of the food exceeds that of most Mexican restaurants I have been to.  It definitely isn't a grilled-shrimp-marinated-in-lime-and-cilantro-hoity-toity Mexican restaurant, but it offers some of the best tasting traditional Mexican food around.  The value is tremendous.  My husband and I just had dinner and margaritas, and our bill was $19.00!!!  Monday and Tuesdays are $1.99 margarita nights.  They are good, strong margaritas too!  The guacamole is very good, and they have great Horchata too.  I would recommend it for a night when you just don't feel like cooking, but you also don't want to spend a ton of money eating out.

Almost forgot!!  The service was great too.  Our waiter was attentive and smiley.....just how I like service to be.

After 15 years of going here, I am finally getting around to writing a review of el Burrito.

Lets get the bad stuff out of the way first -- The place looks like a dive.  It is situated in a corner of a dying strip mall and the bathrooms can be dirty at times.  Occasionally the wait staff have a difficult time with the English language.

That said, the food is outstanding!  Only a fool would go to a place called el Burrito without trying the burritos.  The burritos are massive.  All the other menu items I've tried have been excellent as well.  Everything is fresh and homemade.  Prices are more than reasonable.

The best part is the $1.99 Margaritas every Monday and Tuesday night!

If you are looking for some excellent and authentic Mexican food, give el Burrito a try.  You won't be disappointed.

Went here again for breakfast - I love riding our bikes here in the summer; its a short jog west off the bike trail at Route 14 and Main Street by Hobby Lobby. We ordered off the menu because wanted something simple to share with the kids so we asked for carne asada con huevos revueltos (skirt steak with scrambled eggs). As always very friendly, great service. They open at 10am.

Excellent burritos, steak tacos, horchatas, and en chilada's.  This place is first rate, the waiters and waitresses have a little trouble at times, but they are very friendly and if you bear with them they will take care of you.  Best mexican food in the area, period!

Good food.  We like to just do the take out.  Once we finish our meals we don't need to eat for the rest of the day.   Is kid friendly, but it is much more enjoyable if they stay home!

I give this place 4 stars because I like the food a lot... appetizers are great, and the horchatas are real good too! They have a guy playing guitar, and its very entertaining and he plays the guitar really good and sings nice. I didn't give this place 5 stars because on Valentine's Day I went, and we waited about 20-30 minutes for anyone to take our order. Yea we had chips and drinks, but the only two waiters were talking to a group of girls and talking to each other by the counter. I didnt notice the time go by because I was talking and watching t.v. Other times they are really nice. When I decided to walk out, a waitress appeared and tried to get us to stay, but it was too late by then. That was really annoying. It'll be a while before I go back, but the food is good.

I think maybe this place has changed owners a couple times in recent years? You know the food is going to be good when all the decorations are donated by Mexican beer companies and the only thing on TV is futbol or telenovelas (soap operas).

Very good food here, including more seafood than you see on most Midwestern menus...many choices on the menu overall.  Very good flan dessert. Be careful on ordering appetizers because you will fill up and spoil your meal.

The people that worked there have always bent over backwards to be nice to the point where we just wind up lingering around longer. Lots of choices for the kids like chicken nuggets, mini-quesadilla, fries, hamburgers, etc. Both my sons are under 5 but will eat the soup here, which we've never seen them do anywhere else. Also it was fun that they have a guy in there playing guitar and singing table side sometimes.

If you think Mexican food comes from Taco Bell or can't understand why everyone won't "learn the language" to better serve you, do the rest of us a favor and skip this place. We really like it as it is!
