I've been to the Elephant Bar about 7 times since it opened. (Fun fact: on our first visit, the credit card machines were down, and we couldn't leave for 30 minutes.) I keep going back with the hope that I just ordered the wrong thing and that the next time I go, it will be better.
It never is.
Last night I had the barely edible Thai High chicken salad. The chicken was extremely salty and it tasted like coffee grounds. No thought was given to the composition of the salad; they just dumped chicken on old greens, added cucumber slices, and called it a day.
The only good thing I've had there is the Macau soup with grilled salmon. However, literally every other thing I've had there is not just mediocre, but actively BAD. Which is a shame, because the service has always been good, they have drink specials, and the atmosphere is fun.
I have learned my lesson and will not be returning.
I had a great time at this restaurant!
Atmosphere:
Great setting. Â Very spread out and a great view of the kitchen. Â I was comfortable. Â The bar area was gorgeous. Â Everyong was friendly. Â Sophisticated yet comfortable.
Food:
Amazing! Â Everything I had from my entree to dessert was delicious. Â The sweet and sour chicken was incredibly delicious. Â I won't get it anywhere else now. Â I also had the cobbler dessert with ice cream...wow! Â Get it! Â
Service:
Very on par. Â I am an avid Diet Coke drinker and never had to wait or ask for a refill. Â They were very attentive.
Location:
At the mall, just near the movies. Â It was perfect. Â We'll definitely have another date night here soon!
Mama Mia! This place is a very good. I came across the ocean from the land of italy. This was my first experience of the great land of Ohio. I must say it reminds me of the old country. The lady's were very sexy who worked there. I had the sangria rojo drink. It was so good I was feeling good in no time. I then had the japeno burger. Â As we say in the old country very good.
Review Source:Never again, after waiting 45 minutes for a table for 2, and 30 minutes for our appetizer our entrees finally came out. literally right after. We didn't even have a chance to eat a single chip and the main course was there to sit and get cold while we did. After ask of that I finally got the drink I had ordered 5 minutes before the waitress took the appetizer order.
Review Source:I love Elephant Bar! Â I've been here several times when I visited my cousins in Toledo. Â The sweet potato fries, quesadillas, and desserts are awesome. Our waitress was so nice and even remembered me from the last time I visited (which is funny, because I'm from the East Coast). Â The drink selection and prices are great too.
I like the decor and the ambiance; the customer service has been great every time I went.
Personally I was not too impressed with the menu they offered. The time I was at Elephant Bar my meal was really good and cooked perfectly. I feel like they could have had better menu choices.
I got the Maui- Maui with a side of rice and vegetables. The Maui-Maui was tender and full of flavor. With that being said the drinks were good and it was a good time with my girlfriends.
I would probably give Elephant Bar another chance since it has been awhile since I have ate their. It is a nice choice if you are looking for something different to try then your normal burger restaurants.
Usually when I go to eat I can decide what I want pretty quick... Not whenever I go here! The variety they offer is incredible, spanning from beef stroganoff to sashimi. They offer such awesome variety and yet the quality is still top notch! One of the few places that makes me drive to the state down south.... Go Blue!
Review Source:Elephant Bar is one of my favorite restaurants. It has an awesome atmosphere to it, the way the interior is designed is pretty cool . There bar kind of looks like a nice lounge at least that's what it reminds me of, if your looking for a new place have a few drinks theirs are decently priced. If you have never had Jambalaya before i recommended you try theirs its very good.
Review Source:Elephant Bar has a pretty eclectic menu, with somewhat of an Asian influence. There are many pages of menu items (the menu comes in a spiral book, like Cheesecake Factory), so each person can find at least one, if not many things to eat. I think of Elephant Bar as "reliably good". Each time I have gone, the food is good and the service has always been better than I would expect. Keep an eye open for coupons in your newspaper. It's also nice that while it is in the mall, it isn't attached to the mall, so you don't really deal with a lot of the mall crowd.
The biggest drawback is probably the parking, but that's because whoever develops parking lots in Toledo is an absolute idiot (none of them make sense, are wide enough, many are one way, etc).
Do not leave this place without eating the cobbler. Seriously, it's like eating crack for dessert. The chicken lettuce wraps are also pretty tasty, too.
We had our Annual Christmas Dinner here. We came from Texas, North Carolina, Washington DC, and Toledo, Ohio.
I recommend you make reservations on the weekends or holidays.
This place is popular for the Bar and the tasty unusual food they serve.
I have to say it was 4 stars all the way. Our server was excellent and very attentive in a very very busy restaurant. She was on her toes with a smile. Our food was served in a timely manner and it was hot. I had Macadamia Chicken with Sweet Grilled Shrimp and it was very tasty.
Good for big groups or just two.
You will enjoy your meal here.
Like other reviews have said, E-bar is a chain (I think mostly based in california? That's where I first had it before it came to Toledo). And they're Asian based cuisines.
I usually for to E-bar for happy hour. They have happy hour M-F from 3-7pm and every day from 9-close (which I believe the kitchen closes as 11). Happy hour prices are only good in the bar area. Â
They have a bunch of appetizers and drinks that are at a great price.
I don't usually like drinks, but the pomegranate mojito is pretty good there and it's on the happy hour special.
As for the appetizers I recommend:
Sweet Potato Fries! So delicious! It's served with a ketchup/szechuan sauce that's really good! It's got a tangy kick to it.
The Lettuce Wraps are good too. I usually ask for extra lettuce because it never seems to be enough.
The Calamari is ok. It's definitely not the best calamari that I've ever had. (Kotobuki is probably the best.)
The Spring  Rolls are ok. I've had better but they are decent.
It's been a while since I've gone there for a meal but I did order the cashew chicken. I would ask for the rice on the side. They may have changed things, but when I had it, they put the chicken over the rice and the rice was drenched in the sauce. It was too flavorful, I felt like my tastebuds were in overload! I prefer my rice on the side so that it can offset the flavor.
The waitresses I've had have been really nice and willing to help with suggestions.
This place was a very good choice for dinner. Was in the Toledo area for a tournament and did not know much on what was good to eat. Me and my girlfriend found Elephant Bar on Yelp and decided to try it since we were in the area.
The food is great and it is definitely similar to the Cheesecake factory only its a bit cheaper. The restaurant is very large and open just like the layouts of the Cheesecake factory's.
I'd say stop in if your looking for something decent to eat, the menu is pretty diverse. They have the usual american food with a twist and a large selection of asian food.
Extremely satisfied with this place.
Solid. It's a chain restaurant: Think Cheesecake Factory, but better (and more squarely Asian inspired) and cheaper food. This is really one of the best bangs for your buck, while maintaining solid food quality.
To be honest, I came here based on the delicious looking photos of the food on their website. Same is true of their menu, where you can find pictures of most, if not all, of the entrees.
Their garlic bread, loaded with cheese, is absolutely fantastic. Also tried the coconut fried shrimp skewers (very flavorful, if a little charred for my taste).
Split the field greens salad with blue cheese and caramelized walnuts (fantastic).
For main courses, I've had the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp and Chicken, and the Macadamia Nut Chicken Breast with Oak Grilled Shrimp. (The first two are served with rice, the last with pasta).
The Sweet & Sour Chicken was a slightly healthier and "cleaner" version of the typical you get in random chinese restaurants. Pretty good.
The Kung Pao dish was amazing because of the sauce.
The Macadamia Nut Chicken Breast was well done, if a bit heavy for my taste. The richness of the macadamia nuts, the breading, the chicken and the shrimp (plus the pasta it comes with). Everything was well cooked though.
As for dessert, I didn't really have much room for it after the rest of the meal, but I really appreciate the fact that Elephant Bar serves mini desserts (Mini Indulgences), for when you just want to finish off the meal with a sweet bite. Â Well, more like a couple sweet bites. Even the mini desserts are pretty big. I've only tried the wonton sundae, and it was solid. A cinnamon dusted fried wonton complements the rich ice cream and sauce.
30,000 ft view... Good food, bad service.
We went on a Friday night, so it was busy to begin with. Â However, when we were seated, there were long gaps in between waiter visits, and anytime we asked for something, it felt like we were putting him out. Â While this may be a person issue, not systemic, overall, the place appeared out of control. Â Amibiance, eh. Â Food was good, but overpriced. Â I prefer PF Changs or a local ethnic food restuarant over this chain. Â We may go back, but only during slower times when we can receive the service we expect.
Executive summary: I took my wife here, and we spent over $50 for good food (but not great food) and okay service.
The full story: My wife and I went were looking for something different, and I had heard some good things about EB, so we decided to check it out. Â As you walk in, you are greeted by an open layout with high ceilings and a clean style with a few bits of rustic flair. Â (e.g. the mechanized hand fans and elephant silhouettes over the bar.) Â We were there in middle of the day (4pm) so the place was pretty dead.
We started off with an artichoke-spinach dip appetizer that came with tortilla chips which was just fantastic. Â I'm a tortilla chip snob, but these were awesome with a nice crunch and the perfect amount of salt. Â The dip itself was equally as good, but nearly 8 bucks for chips and dip? Â Seriously? Â Eh.
The Elephant Bar menu is interesting. Â It has a disproportionate number of shrimp items, with much of the menu being Asian dishes, but then you also have items like braised lamb shanks on mashed potatoes. Â All said, I wasn't a big fan of the menu. Â I don't like shrimp, and even though I love Asian food, very few of the entrees appealed to me. Â I happily decided on the Crispy Chicken Teriyaki, but the decision was easy because I didn't see many dishes that I really wanted. Â Likewise with the appetizers; there were only one or two choices that I even wanted to have. Â That's just personal preference, so I wouldn't dock the EB any points for it, but for my palate, the menu is pretty weak.
One nice feature of the menu is the "complete meals" in the front of the menu, which are a few entrees you can get that come with a salad (Caesar or garden) and "mini" desert for pretty reasonable prices. Â As I said before, I got the chicken teriyaki, and I went with the complete meal option. Â
The garden salad that comes with it was really weak. Â It reminded me of one of those salads-in-a-bag that you get at the supermarket, just lettuce and some carrot and red cabbage shavings with a few croutons on top and a single tomato wedge. Â I was kind of hoping for cheese, or cucumbers, or hard-boiled egg, or maybe just more tomatoes. Â It was rather anemic. Â My wife asked for French dressing (as she always does), but the server said they don't have it. Â I can't remember the last time that happened at a restaurant. Â They had every other common Western dressing, from ranch to thousand island, but no French? Â How strange.
Next up was the chicken teriyaki, which was hit and miss. Â I say hit and miss because my wife got the same thing, and hers was good while mine was not. Â Actually, they were nearly identical, except the fact that hers had the appropriate amount of sauce, and mine had about 3 times more. Â My plate was swimming with sauce, so as I spooned rice from the serving bowl onto the plate, it immediately soaked up the sauce to the point of being way too strong to enjoy. Â The sauce in moderation would have been fine, but it becomes unpalatable when it is gooped on in large amounts. Â The chicken and vegetables themselves were quite good however. Â I would probably order the chicken teriyaki again, but I would definitely ask for sauce on the side just to be safe. Â
The mini desert was actually not so mini, so I suspect the regular deserts are huge. Â I had a fudge sundae, which was top notch, while my wife had a brownie sundae, which she also enjoyed. Â No problems there. Â I bet EB would be a great place to come just for desert after a movie or something.
Our server was very friendly and, for the most part, did a great job. Â It took a LONG while for our appetizer to arrive (how do chips and dip take that long to prepare?), and the salad took forever too, but that wasn't the server's fault. Â The kitchen just must be slow, which seems weird considering the place was totally dead. Â
Actually our server amused me because she had an interesting quirk. Â Whenever I would ask for something (e.g. "Could I get Diet Coke, please?", or "Could I get another napkin when you get the chance?"), her response was invariably, "Of course!" Â She said it with a tone of surprise and (almost) indignity, as if I was actually asking her if it was POSSIBLE for her to perform such a task, as opposed to if she would do such a task for me. Â I got a kick out of that every time.
Anyway, EB isn't bad, but my first experience was not very impressive either. Â I doubt I'll go back anytime soon, but I'm not against going back sometime. Â Some places I go to, I can't decide between a handful of dishes, so as I'm leaving I can't wait to come back to try that other thing that looked awesome. Â The EB menu isn't giving me a reason to hurry back.
The key to ordering desserts at Elephant Bar is to go with someone who will split one with you. Seeing how they are calorifically huge (and delicious!), your best bet would be to bring along a male dining companion. Or five.
EBar continues to impress me with its savory dishes. The consistency here is unparalleled in Toledo, which is actually quite disappointing if you think about it, and service is generally good.
Following the misoyaki salmon entree, I opted to split the molten chocolate cake with a couple of my friends. The dessert is nowhere as big as the giant ice cream cookie sandwich, but it was rich enough that I had to push it away after a few bites. We dared one of the guys to top of a bite of the cake and ice cream with sriracha sauce, and he even claimed that that tasted just as good.
Great food. Awesome company. The finishing component? A kick-ass place like Elephant bar.
The service was the worst I've ever seen, we sat down at our table and it took about 15 mins for our waitress to come to our table( I would have left if my fiance let me) and she wasn't very friendly. Â The food was HORRIBLE I found some long pieces of hair in my food and my fiances was overcooked. Â It wasn't even busy while we were there and we still had such terrible service. Â I would choose any of they resturaunts near the mall other than this one. Â I'll never go back even if it was free, that how bad this place is. Â I would have gave this place zero stars if I could.
Review Source:I've been here a few times. They changed their menu and offer pictures of almost everything they offer, which is great for me. It's a large menu and a lot of it is seafood. They offer a shirmp adventure platter and it was amazing. The food is great and the service was amazing as well....BUT the drinks were TERRIBLE!!! (hence the 3 star rating...good drinks it would have had 4 stars easy) I had a mai-tai and it tasted like pineapple juice and nothing else. My boyfriend had a mojito and it tasted like pure lime juice. The bartender that night should have been fired on the spot because he couldn't make a drink to save his life. Other than the horrible drinks, I'd go back!!
Review Source:My Wife and I had lunch at the Elephant Bar. Â The food and service were very good, and the selection also seemed very good. Â We were seated quickly, and our waiter was very knowledgeable. Â The only down side to our dining experience was the noise. Â The place is very noisy, it would be hard to carry on a conversation at a large table.
