I try and eat at Elly's Pancake house at least once every time I am in Chicago. Â This is a pretty typical Pancake house, except that it is AWESOME! Â They change up their specials and usually have seasonal breakfast's that are delicious! Â I would recommend Elly's to anyone that is hungry! Â It is usually busy, the parking can be a pain sometimes however, no matter how busy it looks on the inside they always get my wife and I seated very quickly with no wait! Â Great service, huge menu, delicious coffee!
Review Source:We were originally looking for Dappers and couldn't find it, so we Yelped for brunch places in the area and this came up. Â We found out that this place took over the Dapper's restaurant.
The food is served in large portions. Lots of veggies in my veggie omelette and it was fluffy and not at all oily. The hash had a nice crispy crust on it.
Original Benedict meal comes with fresh fruits whole slices, not a little side bowl of it. Â It was very good according to the hubby.
The place looks contemporary inside, white walls with many different colorful places, bright and open. The crowd is mainly families and good turn around of tables.
I LOVE that they serve fresh smoothies and fresh wheat grass shots with a wedge of lemon.
I got the Green Goodness, refreshing! Â The staff was friendly and my waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and other things that were not yet printed on the menu like the shot of Wheat Grass with a wedge of lemon, very tasty.
One thing I don't care much is the crazy parking lot, it was hard to get in and out. Â
But overall I will definitely come back here for breakfast!
Elly's is going to be our new breakfast spot. We had been to the one in Arlington Heights before but just discovered this new location in our area. The food was good and the portions were huge. My wife's omelette was as big as her head, and I swear my two eggs and country fried steak were at least 4 eggs. The menu has a good variety, and the service was excellent. The restaurant was something else before, but its clean and inviting inside and the kids menu had a lot of options.
Review Source:Ate at Elly's on a Monday morning, 9:45 am. Â Greeted at the door immediately with a friendly face. Â Seated at a booth near server station. Â Noise level a little higher there, but not bothersome. Â We received two glasses of drinking water before we could even sit down. Â Nice! Â
Server was quick and attentive, exactly what I would have expected from this atmosphere. Â Coffee was good and hot and served with communal cream. Â Nice touch. Â Menu was extensive but not overwhelming. Â Companion ordered blintzes with strawberries and I ordered the Ole Skillet. Â Both orders arrived within 5-7 minutes. Â
Companions blintzes were tasty with fresh strawberries, but lacked much color on the plate. Â Could have done with some kind of green or something. Â My skillet was delivered literally, in the skillet. Â Good presentation. It was the perfect temperature and included a healthy combination of all the listed ingredients. Â The only thing out of proportion was the large number of jalapenos within the dish. It somewhat detracted from the flavor. Â If I order again, I will ask for those on the side. Â The accompanying toast was served with individual ramekins of whipped butter and preserves. Â Again, lovely touch that makes this more than a greasy spoon diner.
As I sit here and type this review while still in the restaurant, the service has been attentive, but not obtrusive as to rush me out the door. Â I will definitely return, maybe to try the great lunch menu. Â Gotta make sure I come before 4pm, though, as this is a breakfast and lunch place only!
We came here once on a sunday afternoon....BIG mistake!!!! Well, that is, if you're hungry and you'll have to wait. Â My mom loves Ihop and I really wanted something different. Â No offense NW burbs, I'm over all of your restaurants...a northwest sider for 30 years and I've covered my bases of restaurants, more than once.
Soooooo during my holiday break from work I suggested brunch for something different, for all of us, being my mom, sister, and myself. Â We came on a friday afternoon so much better - no wait.
We got here late afternoon so it was brunch time probably lunch but we didn't have breakfast so we all ordered it instead. Â Yes, they are a tad more pricey than say Dennys, or my mom's favorite...Ihop, but you get what you pay for, right?!
If you look at their facebook page or even scroll down among the reviews here, you'll note the banana nuetella walnut crepes. Â A "favorite" as our waitress told her and yes, now a favorite of mine...OMIGOSH these were good!!!! My sister got blintzes, and my mom ordered the Ellys Delight which came with juice included in the price. Â
What I really dug about that place was the juice/smoothie bar, you don't see those much and it was pretty cool.
So...thumbs up for this new establishment! Â Go there!!!!
I love breakfast. Especially those that are offering more healthy alternatives like veggies juices (had the beet, carrot, and orange juice) and eggs whites at Elly's pancake house. Â Have good skillets that you can build your own like the one I made with chorizo, avocado, and peppers.
Service is decent and it has lots of room to minimize wait times on the weekend.
Sunday morning near 10 a.m. Â Asked the host how long of a wait. Â "One minute 37 seconds" was the reply. Â But we were waiting for the rest of our party. Â When we told him that, his response was, "When they arrive, the wait will be one minute 37 seconds." Â And he was right! Â Food was good, but could have been a little hotter. Â Crispy bacon as requested. Â Coffee kept coming. Â Kids were raiding dad's plate, so we know they liked everything. Â Yep, we'll go back! Â I'm curious about their burgers.
Review Source:hell hath no fury like a yelper scorned!
I'm so annoyed. This is my third carry out with missing food.
I specifically ordered and it seemed like it was going to go well.
I've had two previous carry outs that were missing something or the eggs were not the type I ordered. I didn't make a big deal the first time....or the second time.
But I ordered today at about 9:06 I know this because I was watching the clock.
When I went to pick up my order everything seemed fine. I didnt think I would have to go through the bag make sure my order correct. Because I'm pretty sure I don't work there and it's not my job.
Get home and no bacon.
I know what you're thinking ALL THIS BECAUSE OF BACON!
I wouldn't have been as upset if not for the condesending mean guy on the other end of the phone when i called...
I called and said that the bacon was missing...he replies "are you sure"
"yes I'm sure" I then explain this has happened about three times and he then asks me to hold on. He then comes back on the phone and says he asked the cook and the cook said he put the bacon in the to go order. I then resond with "it must have magically disapeared from ellys to my home." He says " why didn't you check the order when you left?" puts me on hold. "Ok what's your name and phone number all i owe you is a side of bacon."
NO THANKS. It's not about the bacon. It's about your customer service. Why not start with "sorry you were missing your bacon you can come back or we'll give you a credit."
I wouldn't have even taken it. Just acknowledging there was a mistake and not making it seem as if i were lying about BACON!
I will never go back to Ellys. They didn't care if I was a long term customer or not.
It's fine by me. Theres a Bakers Square less than 5 minutes away.
I highly recommend this place. I've eaten there about 5 times since it's been open, and I've never been disappointed. I've never had to wait for a table, and the service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable too. You get a lot of food too. I choose this over any other breakfast place in my area.
Review Source:Fantastic fluffy spinach omelet and excellent fresh cut fruit!!!
Most cooks burn omelets, and when I ask them not to burn them, they come out raw.
I love well done BBQ chicken, italian sausage, thin pork chops, potatoes, hash browns, popcorn kernels, and burnt chocolate chip cookies, but I cannot stand the smell or taste of burnt eggs!!
These eggs were perrrrrfect!!!
And so was the service from Melissa and Nicole!!
"I will be back!"
Outstanding place for breakfast. Service is quick and friendly, and the food and drink are excellent. It's conveniently located near O'Hare Airport, so is a great local (non-chain) option for breakfast. Highly recommended. If I lived in the area (I'm from Ohio), I'd make a point to visit Elly's Pancake House on a regular basis.
Review Source:If you seek breakfast during weekend, put on your patient parking pants when you head to Elly's. While my friend and I scored a table right away, the parking lot was absolutely packed to the gills! Being that's it's just a short jaunt off of 90 in Norridge, I can see why.
Inside, Elly's is big and bright, shiny and clean. The prime spot for a morning bite with friends or family. After perusing the tasty looking menu and sipping on the flavorful coffee, I settled on the bicentennial crepes - three crepes with strawberries, blueberries, and cherries, and turkey sausage patties. The crepe plate arrived beautifully, three generously sized crepes individually topped (not filled) with said berries and some berry sauce. While the plate was definitely a looker, the actual crepe fell short for me. It tasted thick and eggy, not light and airy like the typical crepe. Meh, I've had better crepes. Big plus for the portion size, though!
As for the turkey sausage patties. Color me confused. Arriving with my pile o' crepes were two practically burger sized, light pink/beige turkey patties. No joke, they looked like two turkey burgers on a side plate. They just didn't taste or look like breakfast. Pass on those if you're expecting a traditional brown, turkey sausage patty.
Even though the main parts of the meal were a bit of a letdown, my friend and I were intrigued by the Banana Monkey milkshake special on the board near the registers. As we were paying for our meal, we decided to split said shake to take on the road. The Banana Monkey consists of a chocolate shake with peanut butter, banana and topped with a touch of whipped cream. Hell to the yeah. Get yourself one of those. For me, this was Elly's saving grace. Get a milkshake! And if you're feeling kind, you can easily share it with another buddy.
Clean, fast, tasty, roomy, friendly. This is my new local breakfast place. Situated in the former Dappers location, Elly's provides a new upbeat, quality breakfast location in the Norridge / Harwood Heights area. At my first visit I decided to create my own omelet (bacon, ham, sausage, cheddar cheese, and onion). The omelet was great! Not greasy or oily, with the perfect amount of fluffy. I opted out of getting hash browns and instead was offered some fresh fruit. They actually used whole slices of watermelon and cantaloupe. They even offered my wife a to go cup for her barely touched iced tea. Â Already looking forward to next weeks breakfast and trying their fresh fruit smoothies.
Review Source:My mom's name is Elly so I thought it'd be pretty cool to hit up this spot for breakfast Sunday morning before our flight back home to the Bay Area.
The whole shopping center where this restaurant is located is doing a remodel of all the signage here so there was obviously no sign out front, but we just followed the crowd of hungry folks in the parking lot, and voila we found the place.
We put our name down for 2 and was seated within 5 minutes.
The place is HUGE with tons of seating. And looks like it's been remodeled recently because everything looked new to me (from the tables to the chairs to the ceiling).
It was extremely packed the day we went, and we figured that's the norm, but it could have also been because it was Father's Day so there were tons of families there celebrating with dads, grandpas and soon-to-be-dads.
Our waitress was very friendly but because of the amount of tables she had to wait on, I would say service was pretty darn slow.
I ordered myself decaf coffee and also a green tea while looking at the breakfast menu. The coffee was yummy and the tea was extremely fancy, not your standard Bigelow or Starbucks teabag most diners give ya. It had a hint of flowery goodness to the flavor.
For my breakfast meal of competition champions I ordered off the "Create Your Own Omelette/Scramble/Frittata menu. I got myself a turkey sausage, asparagus and feta frittata with a side of their walnut Nutella waffle!
The SBBF also ordered off that option and got a turkey sausage and cheddar scramble.
This place probably would have gotten 5 stars from me if the following didn't happen:
1. Food took about 25-30 minutes to come out. WAYYY too long of a wait for breakfast food!
2. Messed up the SBBF's order and brought out sunny-side up eggs instead of scrambled.
3. Actually messed up his entire order because there was bacon in it instead of the turkey sausage, it was obviously somebody else's plate to begin with. The waitress then came back and gave him his correct order quite quickly because it was already sitting over at the kitchen waiting to be eaten.
The highlight of this experience was the amazing waffle I had. I normally don't like mushy bananas on anything but the nutella with the bananas on this light, airy, perfectly crisped waffle was seriously the best thing I've had for breakfast in a long time!
If we're ever in the area, I think we'd come back but maybe to a different location just to see if their delicious food is consistent and if the service can go a lot quicker at another spot.
Pancakes Average everything else Awesome!
My boyfriend and I were looking for a breakfast place close to our hotel and found this wonderful place. Although it has a diner feel it is completely spacious. Elly's has their breakfast to a science. Like a well oiled machine, you are in and out and on with your day.
I didn't challenge my palate as I normally do and just got a standard basic breakfast. I ordered blueberry and strawberry pancakes expecting the flavors to be IN the pancakes, but it is just fruit on top ( this is how they lost their fifth star).
My boyfriend had this AMAZING egg baked casserole dish that for my life I can not remember the name. It was jammed packed with veggies, sausage, egg, and sour cream. The dish was served in the skillet it was baked in, which means you get all the flavor goodness. I would recommend this dish to anyone and if I ever visit Chicago again, this dish will be on my to do list.
I love this place. Â It replaced an old staple, Dapper's, but it is so good that I don't think anyone minds. Â The restaurant is clean and the service is always friendly. Â I've never been for dinner, just breakfast and lunch and I've not been disappointed yet! Â My favorite is the Elly's Veggie Burger, they make it themselves...this is no frozen patty stuffed in a bun. Â It's covered in avocado and chihuahua cheese. Â Seriously, who could ask for anything more? Â I usually customize the omlette's I order, but I did try the "Latina" and it was grand! Â Another place I would frequent more often if I could afford the calories!!
Review Source:We were on a quest to check out some breakfast spots this summer. As the NATO summit was going on, we opted to head west to avoid it like the plague. After a few searches on Yelp, we ended up here.
Elly's was a perfectly nice breakfast/ brunch spot. It was large and clean and the food was pretty good. The service was friendly and attentive.
Christopher had the cinnamon apple pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were good, but not great. The bacon seemed a tad skimpy for the price.
I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. It was decent, but not amazing. The portions were large and I took home the leftovers. The sausage was actually homemade. I loved that it wasn't greasy.
I brought Mom an order of their crepes with cherries, blueberries and fresh strawberries. She absolutely loved them and said they were some of the best crepes she ever had. Well, anything that makes Mom happy gets an extra star from me. So, three stars from Chris and I, five stars from Mom.
We saw Elly's Pancake House of the highway on the way back to O'hare to catch a flight and we just had to stop. Pancake houses are a rare bird in the SF Bay Area, so I had to hit this place up!
Let me tell you. This place is amazing. Is is SO good. If you are craving a tasty breakfast with hash browns, pancakes, eggs and anything in-between, this is the place for you. Not only did we not have to wait, but the service was great, and the food was even better.
I will definitely keep coming back to this place every time we are in the Chicago area. Thanks Elly's for making me one happy camper prior to flying back to SF.
This place is a SOLID breakfast joint - much better than the alternatives in this particular area. Â Don't let the strip-mall surroundings dissuade you from eating here, because once inside, you'd never know the place was located next to "Video Cobra," "Subway," or half-a-dozen nail/spa places.
Arrived to Elly's around noon on a Saturday, tummies-a-rumblin' for some breakfast grub. Â Despite the jam-packed parking lot, we were immediately seated at a comfy booth near the front window. Â A waitress stopped-by with menus and waters, and asked if we'd like coffee or juice.
I went with coffee, and it was quite good. Â There's just something about a good diner coffee that warms the heart (and gut)...
We browsed the large menu and I settled on a short stack of pancakes, no sides. Â My dining companion went with the "healthy breakfast," which consisted of poached eggs, cottage cheese, an english muffin, and fresh fruit. Â It was accompanied by fresh squeezed OJ.
The waitrees left with our orders and we waited patiently for the food to arrive. Â We noticed how quick and friendly the employees were here - they could turn around a table like a NASCAR pit crew turns around a tire change. Â Elly's has high, open ceilings, and a very open, yet comfy feel. Â The stained concrete floor is a nice touch as well.
The food arrived and it looked good; even if the order was incorrect. Â I somehow wound-up with a Belgian waffle. Â The healthy breakfast was correct, and included housemade cottage cheese and perfectly poached eggs.
I stuck with the waffle; it looked good, albeit a touch small, but it turned out to be the perfect size. Â The waffle was crisp, light, and had a very nice malty flavor. Â It was excellent.
The bill arrived, we paid, and left completely satisified. Â Elly's did an excellent job.
Elly's = WIN
Food = 4 stars
Service = 4 stars
Value = 3.75 stars
MISC = 3.75 stars
This will be my new "go-to" place for breakfast.
3 stars for food and 1 star for the service. Â
This place is somewhat new in the neighborhood, so I gave them couple of months to get the kinks out of the way before I tried it. Â Looks like the service department needs little more help. Â Let me correct that, the management needs little more help on how to schedule the waitresses and learn to help out when things are out of control. Â
Let's start with the decor shall we? Â It's pretty decent size diner, very bright and they even have their own juice bar behind the register. Â But the plates mounted on the north facing wall was pretty lame in my opinion. Â
Food - Ordered Ole Omelette (Chorizo, jalepeno and onion), not bad. Â Comes with hash brown which are browned perfectly, and 2 slices of toasted bread. Â If you want a bagel it's $.49 extra. Â Coffee is pretty decent also.
Service - There was around 60+ people when I was eating with 5 waitresses. Â I thought "This doesn't look too good. Â They will run around non stop" Â And I was right. Â Coffee and water was served promptly and I ordered. Â But I didn't get a refill on the coffee for over 10 minutes. Â Forget about my waitress coming by. Â She was running around everywhere. Â I didn't even get a refill on my water the whole time I was dining. Â I got a refill on the coffee when she brought out my food. Â They really need to put more staff on duty. Â Or the manager on duty really needs to come around and help out. Â Oh yeah, did I mention about the coffee cup being upside down without a napkin or a saucer below it on a wet table? Â YUP. Â This place had it. Â UNSAT (Navy Terminology)
I might return, but if I see a damn coffee cup sitting upside down without anything on the bottom? Â I would probably walk out. Â
They do accept credit cards.
I was in Chicago staying with a friend in town for new Years. We had breakfast there 4 times and lunch twice while I was there. It was almost embarassing how much I liked it.
I'm a creature of habit and had the Opah! salad numerous times, the greek salad, and the chicken noodle soup. Â All were awesome. For breakfast I had one of the skillets which kept me full the entire day. So good.
Service was friendly and fast. Really liked the modern, clean, and simple decor. Â Wonderful addition to the neighborhood. See you tons when I'm back next year for New Year. Â
P.S. Why aren't you open for dinner. I'd come back even more.
Since ancient times, soothsayers and fortune tellers have met in secret in order to discuss ethereal and worldly matters. Â This meeting place, Elly's Pancakehouse in Norridge, have been said to be a nexus of psychic energy and premonition. Â Powerful readings have been said to occur here-- aided by the powers of syrupy pancakes, delicious brewed coffee and perky attentiveness of humble waitress-adepts. Future-seekers and breakfast lovers have partaken in this morning ritual, following in the footsteps of Those Who Can See.
EDIT: It has come to my attention that Elly's customers are not, nor have any affiliation with, the Paranormal. Â However in my opinion, the delicious, quick-to-serve pancakes, omelettes, and coffee, as well as the plate-covered walls say otherwise...
This new addition is part of the Elly's (small) chain. All of the waitresses seem to have a blong hair thing going, and everyone is so top-shelf excellent, it blows away even the best breakfast houses from here to Eurpoe. Seriously.
Blintzes, great pancakes, and all serves in a white, clean, well-lit, open space decorated with a few nice plates on the walls and a lot of hustle. Omelette was good, wife's french toast with (fresh) strawberries was fine, and coffe was always being repoured by an excellent server. THIS is how a great restaurant stays great, great, great. As accomodating to the local seniors who meet here as they are to families and couples like us who just want a nice start. Short wall allows diners to see the kitchen and some of the running around. Very, very clean, which is amazing given the speed and constant turnover. Industrial ceiling is all white, spacious and a good fit for us.
Went on Sunday morning, no wait. And yeah, carry-outs!

Canned corn beef hash.
Obviously frozen potato pancakes.
Frozen chicken fried steak.
Absolutely no salt in the hash browns.
So-so pancakes.
Good coffee.
Good eggs.
Sorry, too many frozen items in your menu. If a restaurant cuts corners and uses frozen items instead of making them from scratch, it says a lot about the ownership and their standards.
There's a dozen other breakfast places within a 5 mile radius that are better......and that includes Mc Donald's.
GREAT - PERFECT Diner for when you need a fresh breakfast or lunch.
It happened to be 2:30 in the afternoon but I had yet to have coffee and really wanted some eggs.
Very clean diner atmosphere, love the very bright white dishware and coffee friendly mugs. Very clean, even restrooms are very nice.
Great eggs, double yokes so if you order 2 poached eggs you will actually receive 4. Good toast, good potatoe pankakes served w/ sour cream and apple sauce.
My husband had a 5 item omellete - pretty big and everything fresh.
Coffee was just a tad too strong but that's my only comment on that.
"Come as you are" friendly diner w/ easy parking and nice service.
Oh, I think they also specialize in smoothies.....will try next time.
Dappers, I miss you. Â Come back. Â Elly's isn't bad but they had big shoes to fill. Â While the restaurant is nice and bright in decor, I wasn't particularly in love with their food. Â I ordered the Special Club #4 ($7?) which comes with juice, two scrambled egg whites, wheat pancakes and three turkey sausage patties. Â The only thing I could really taste was the turkey patties which were incredibly salty. Â All the other tastes got drowned out. Â The food was cooked well but was a bit bland which I anticipated and got. Â Definitely not bad but I was probably just envious of my friend's Ole skillet which looked awesome but heavy and greasy which I was trying to avoid. Â My own fault for trying to be a good little boy.
The service was fine. Â I did notice the staff walking around making sure everyone was happy with their experience. Â While I like the bright airy feeling of the restaurant it also seemed like it is a restaurant you'd find in a mall. Â I definitely prefer Dapper's with a much more generous serving of food at cheaper prices.
