First time my friend told me about these they sounded unappetizing. Mayo, corn, buttersauce and grated cheese? First reaction was wtf.
I forgot when I finally tried one but it was surprisingly tasty. It just works somehow.
Get in in a cup so its not so sloppy. Get some chile powder on it for some kick too.

Is it just me or is the corn they use fatter? Seems plumper but softer. Or maybe thats how corn gets after its been sitting in hot water in a cooler long enough.

They also carry mango's that they will slice up in front of you and squirt with lime (again, chile power optional).  Good stuff.

Oh Elotes. How I miss you. I love the stuff. I gotta get back down there soon!

Hmmm. Well, for starters, the corn was boiled and not roasted or grilled. It was served off-the-husk in a styrofoam cup with a spoon, which I believe qualifies it more as esquite than as elote. Then, a frighteningly long drizzle of Parkay Squeeze, a few helping dollops of mayo, topped with that mysterious spice and a fair helping of parmesan cheese. Tasty in that dangrously fattening kind of way, yes...but is this really the stuff that poeple are raving over? Save for the mystery spice, I was not that impressed. But will I get it again if I find myself hungry and meandering around Milwaukee and Ashland with $2 in my pocket? Yes, probably.

after leaving chicago, many think it's the pizza or access to steak n shake & white castle that i miss.
    nope.

it's the ability to get hot, steamy seasoned sweet corn from a street cart in the middle of the hot, steamy summer. this is "living", folks. just add cheap beer.

    Mmmmm...elotes. So fattening, so good.

These elotes are fresh, warm, and oh-so tasty. You HAVE to get one. I've seen a man and a woman run this cart, and both are SUPER nice! Even on cold days (like yesterday) they serve you with a smile!

Not a fan of elotes? They're tamales are 3 for $3 and they're really good. They have chicken tamales as well as cheese tamales, and it really is a toss-up as to which one is better. Both are uber satisfying!

I plan on going there after work today, actually. I can't wait to utter that magical sentence...

'Quiero un elote sin chile, por favor, y tres tamales - dos de queso y un con pollo.'

    PALABRA! :)
