As far as airport eateries goes... this place is great.  It is EXTREMELY convenient as it is located in the middle of the gate hallway.  It is styled like an oval bar where you can sit at the counter and order off of their i-pads.  you can also use these i-pads to access the internet and games.  The i-pads also ask for your flight information to help keep track of any updates/ delays.

There are also nicer tables ranging around the bar if you want to sit with groups.  These tables have waiter/ waitress service.

The prices are a little expensive- but you cant beat the convenience.

I ordered the caesar salad- it was ok.  But, since I was delayed, I also ordered the herbed goat cheese and strawberries on bread- and it was fantastic.

The place was very clean and the staff were highly efficient.

I liked this place because they used some of the latest and greatest tech for you to order and stuff. The service was fast and convenient. My biggest issue was that their drinks and food were almost twice the price as other places in the airport and I have no idea why. Anyways, if you're traveling and want to go somewhere modern, this place is definitely good for a drink and a small (yet overly priced) bite to eat.

    At least it's convenient.
If you're looking for mediocre quality food, thrown together haphazardy; ingredients that are not really fresh but not completely spoiled, and served by indifferent staff - and small drinks, then look no further!

My flight was delayed and I noticed this place while walking to my gate. No first class upgrades available. So I'm treating myself to some grub. Ordered the deviled eggs, pork sandwich, and coconut custard pie. Very good for airport food. Good beer options and service was nice.

I love the idea of being able to order on an iPad, browse the internet, and charge up my stuff while waiting for my flight. What I don't love are the ridiculous prices. They are higher than regular airport prices, at least for some items i.e. breakfast sandwich. There is some awkwardness with the servers because they have to reach over and around the bar/iPad stations.

Food is alright but the bar is cool in that everyone gets an iPad for ordering, surfing and flight updates. Well done Delta.

There's an iPad at every bar stool....why?

On Thursday, January 3rd, I ordered a turkey sandwich from Empire Tavern.  The sandwich was outstanding and is not the reason for my review.

The "cool" thing about this joint is its use of iPads for ordering, or one would think...

After making my selections, I went to swipe my card the first time and an error message told me my card couldn't be read.  Swiped again, same error.  Asked the server for assistance & when she swiped, it went through.  Something felt wrong about this & I checked my account.  It showed three charges for the exact same amount of $29.70.  The amount I was actually charged, according to my emailed receipt was supposed to be $26.01.  I asked what was going on and Nicholas Preto came over to speak with me.  While I was showing him my erroneous charges, a woman seated next to me must have overheard our conversation and checked her account, which had been overcharged as well.  He insisted that these charges were just the bank holding the funds for 24 hours & that the money would be returned the next day.  I asked him why the amount was $29.70 and he explained that when the debit is swiped, it adds the gratuity to the total.  He gave me his number and told me to call if the money was not refunded the next day.

Because there were three charges for the exact same amount, I was concerned that my bank would possibly block my card in case of fraud.  I was right.  When I caught my connecting flight and went to order a beverage in the airport, my card was declined.  Mind you, I had NO CASH ON ME (my fault & never again).  Thankfully, I was able to call my bank's Fraud Management office before they closed and the block was removed before my bank closed in Los Angeles.  All this stress because of eating a turkey sandwich at Empire Tavern.

Checked my account Friday and the charges were still pending.  Checked today and they are STILL PENDING.  Because this happened at the end of my trip, my funds were already dwindling.  In this particular account, my other funds are accounted for, so I do not have any money until these charges are reversed.  I'm extremely angry and disappointed at such a faulty system.  Customers should be alerted to only swipe once and warned that they may be charged if they swipe more than that.

With such an innovative concept, you would think they could do better than this.  Consider yourself warned.

This Bar/Eatery alone maaayyyy just make me like LaGuardia and Delta a lot more than I do now!  Really, to be truthful, I was quite impressed with the many noticeable changes in the new Delta expansion in the C Terminal where this is located, but never have I seen anything like this concept in a US airport.  Overseas, yes.

Let me say this (first) review is only for a quick glass of wine I had at the bar, however, once I learned that the food and concept are from the likes of the co-chefs at Balthazar, I am eager to book my next flight out of LGA and try the food!  The bar and seating area is located smack dab in the middle of a corridor with many departure gates (C15 - C24 if I recall), so you can literally sit there with your food & bev til you see that your flight is boarding just steps away.  There are menu options for day and night so that is really good to know as well - getting kinda sick of that Cibo Express for breakfast if you ask me.  Anywhoo...there are tons of charging stations wherever you sit, iPads to order and pay from right where you sit at the bar and waiter service if you are with a group and ordering from one of the surrounding tables.

Gotta hand it to you Empire Tavern...I'm really diggin' it!
