Fat Tony's is a great spot to get a quick bite to eat and some beer. They have good lunch specials too.

This review is on atmosphere and bar alone. I have never eaten here but been here a few times to watch sports and drink.

It is a very dark and gloomy bar but the beer selection is pretty big and the prices are decent. I may go back a few times, but there is def. other bars I'll go to before this one.

Not a terrible experience but not great either.  We came here for lunch and there were not many people at the restaurant but it took over an hour for us to receive our food.  The food was good but not great.  We probably won't be back - there are better options out there in Wilmington.

Good beer selection and particularly their local beers. Big place but seems smaller and comfortable. Probably b/c of the multitude of wood accents.

Can't comment on the food b/c we just had beers.

I can honestly say I've never been to an Italian Pub before. But don't let that throw you off.

We stopped in one night for an appetizer and a couple tasty brews. They have a lot of local brews on tap, and we happened to get there for happy hour (half price appetizers).  There are a lot of good choices, so good luck picking - but we finally decided on the spinach and cheese breadsticks. They were TO DIE FOR! Wow. That was seriously a meal in itself. I was so stuffed!

I will definitely get there again the next time we're in town!

Ate here for lunch it was raining and we wanted to eat outside so we sat in the front I found the food pretty good. Had the Jimmy's steak sandwich with homemade chips great meat in the sandwich and I enjoyed the chips. Good spot check it out!

Pizza was ok, but sandwiches and pasta were really bad. And we had to wait almost an hour for our food, despite being the only people in the restaurant. Tony's advertises a river-view patio, but unless someone in the apartment building between the restaurant and the riverfront leaves their door open, you will not be able to see any water.

Surprisingly big space, including big outdoor picnic seating for large groups!

    Kitchen is open late!

Reasonably priced drinks with generous wine pours.

Had the pizza chip spinach and artichoke dip - very rich but tasty.  The pizza chips were thinner than I expected, but good and crunchy.

For my entree I had the grill chicken salad - unfortunately it was smothered in garlic ... you know that big jar of minced garlic you can get at costco - well that was covering all my chicken.  I like garlic, but am mildly allergic to it in large quantities - and it gets tiring scraping every bite you eat.

Also ordered the tiramisu - but it wasn't what I was expecting ... I don't think there was any cocoa layer.

Friends ordered several pizzas which all looked really good - so if I find myself here again, I'll stick to pizza.

ICE cold beer choices and lots of them.  I enjoyed the outdoor dining.   It is within easy walking distance of the River walk.   The back entrance for outdoor dining made it easy.  I came here because fellow Yelpers said it was a great place for a cold beer and that was what I needed on this beautiful 80 degree day.  I sat in the sun but there was mostly shaded area in which to sit.  The service was excellent and very knowledgeable.  I took her recommendation and was extremely pleased.

Food is too expensive for the quality.  Beers are awesome, but also expensive. Service is good. Sabrina is the best bartender ever

Late nite + pizza + draft beer = good stuff.  That about sums up me experience at this joint.  Slices are cheap and good.

We came across this place simply because it was Riverfest and everywhere else was too crowded!

They have 25 beers on tap! We enjoyed a few beers & an appetizer (stuffed breadsticks), both of which were excellent! Staff was friendly and quick, even considering how busy it was!

Never tried the pizza or entrees, but I would definitely come back to hit up the bar anytime!

The food and service were both excellent! The prices are fair for how big of portions that you get. Can't wait to go back and try something new. The blackened shrimp pasta was amazing!

Not great, not bad either.  I had a calzone, it was dry inside, no marinara sauce inside, and it was undercooked.  Wife had mini slider meatballs, they were OK but again no marinara sauce.

Friendly bartender. and a good beer selection.

Just a wonderful experience - great menu options - great location right on front street - sat right on the street and were very accomodating with our dog - food was excellent and very very very reasonably priced - and it was really good.

Had to stop into pick up the Dili Dash 5k packet so we decided to grab a bite. Cool looking place, oddly no Italian music played. My Italian husband thought that was odd. Great service we noticed and when my husbands mussels con linguini came out smothered in onions (does anybody else find that odd or just us?) , he politely inquired about it and even the manager, we assumed, came over and appreciated our feedback that onions seemed weird in the dish. Drinks were tasty and atmosphere was great!

We went for lunch on a weekday so there were only two other tables occupied.  The service was average.  Our drinks went empty for some time before being refilled, but the food was very good.  I had the foccacia pizza with pesto and my husband said his chicken park sandwich was one of the best he's ever had.  And the canolli was great!  Crispy just like it should be.  We will definitely go back.

Stuck at the Hilton for work and thought we'd order room service during our lunch break but turns out it's the same menu from the hotel's Innovations restaurant (not a chance I was going to eat anything from that menu again).  Luckily, we heard about a local joint called Fat Tony's.  Thank goodness cuz it gave me another opportunity to try out some local eats.

They get an A+ for quick service, thought it was going to take about 30-45 minutes but before we knew it, the deliver guy was there in about 20 minutes.  I ordered the pesto mushrooms - these bite-sized mini portabellos are adorable and stuffed with a nice portion of homemade pesto. I also ordered the Greek salad - I'd eat a Greek salad almost any day so this one did a decent job of satisfying that need :).

Heard a lot about this place from many other students. And I really wanted to like it because its so hard to get Italian delivered. But its totally over priced and the food is lame to boot. I ended up being angry at myself because I keep giving it chances when I'm feening for some pasta. The weird thing is that the food actually gets better when you reheat it in the microwave the next day...add some of your own sauces..yadda yadda. But a good thing is that the pizza is ok. However, theres actually really good pizza places across the street so...that doesn't work out so great.

We've been down here for a couple really fun events.  One of which was an all day "Mugs for Jugs" charity event for breast cancer.   They had $5 refillable mugs , an all female AC/C cover band who rocked.  Place was packed and fun but we were also comfortable in one of the back tables.   They are very involved in the community I think their pizza is solid (sometimes awesome).  Atmosphere is good for getting a few people together for pizza and beers.  Definitely a good place to support downtown.

Just ordered their calzone with sausage and mushroom and I can't think of a much more disappointing meal.

If it wasn't delivered I would have returned it (and i don't return anything). It was essentially a big pocket of ricotta cheese. I was able to locate a few thinly cut mushrooms and sausage, but when i say a few, i'm not exagerating. I dug through the thing expecting to find a giant pocket of filler, but no luck.

I tried to choke it down, but fork fulls of drippy cheese and nothing else got old quick. I guarantee you i will not be ordering that again.

    Lame; really, really lame.

Its a sad and lonely place. The food is hmmm...lets say, NOT GOOD.

The downtown location is the worst. I'm shamed by just walking in, let alone being seen walking out.

If you want to eat good food, not here. If you want to people watch, don't do it here because there has to be customers to people watch.

This place is a big, empty, lonely, dark and cold restaurant. If you have a lack luster personality don't take a date there, it will surely be your last.

    Don't do it.

If you're going for the food go somewhere else.  The mussels and linguine lacked flavor and our very small portion of calamari was overcooked.  A few bright points, the atmosphere was nice and our server was excellent.  If you're expectations are for Italian food don't include garlic, salt or any spice then maybe you'll like it.

While this place has a small menu, it makes up for in a great atmosphere and good pizza.

The interior is really open and dark.  While we went there during a summer evening and I wanted to sit outside, the inside was just as interesting.  During the winter, I bet it is a great place to hang out.  Lots of interesting interior architectural details.  I didn't get a chance to ask what the building was before it became Fat Tony's though.

We got a white pizza which had excellent dough and the mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes were both quality ingredients.  Beer prices were average.

    Nice place!

Seriously, Pizza Crab Nachos? Are you screwing with me? They were amazing! We came in on a Friday night with 13 people, and they made it happen! Our waitress was really great, and Fat Tony himself came by and told strange stories about hotels and ghosts. This place has good food with nice people, who don't really bother you much.

We learned about Fat Tony's from an ad in our hotel room, because they deliver right to your room.  But we decided to try it in person, late on a Friday night.

Coming from a state where smoking has been banned in all public places, we were struck upon entering just how smoky it was.  They quickly seated us in the back non-smoking section, however, so it was no big deal.

We built our own sausage, onion, green pepper, and garlic pizza, and it was excellent.  The only problem was that it took nearly an hour to get it.  Our very friendly waiter told us it would be ready "in just a second" three different times. It was very good once it arrived, but we got kind of tired waiting.  We would go again because the pizza was good, and the waitstaff was friendly--we'll just plan on receiving our food when they get around to it.

I guess my experience was so very different from the others listed here... Perhaps it was the fair we choose to eat. My son really wanted Pizza (teenage boy) and that 's what we ordered, half 'Carnivore' (what do you want to bet a vegetarian wrote the menu) and half  'Special' or the works. We were delighted with our choice which was quite good. I can say it was an excellent pizza. We were there on a Sunday afternoon when it was raining so perhaps the lack of patrons helped the chef do a better job?

Service was friendly, fast and attentive - our waitress always seemed to be there right when my water ran out or my son's bottomless coke went dry. This actually looks like it might be a lot of fun on a Friday or Saturday night since they had a basement bar as well as one on the main floor.

The food at Fat Tony's is highly disappointing. Portion sizes are absurdly large and here quantity does not equal quality. The spaghetti and tortellini manages to be sub-par to simple home cooking. However, I will say the meatballs are excellent! Service borders on polite aloofness which can make it difficult to obtain drink refills, additional napkins, etc. Ambiance is nice with a kind of 'authentic' feel. I would not recommend Fat Tonys but at the same there are very few Italian options available in the Wilmington area.

    Warm beer and bad food!!!

I just went to Fat Tony's after hearing all the hype. I guess standards vary but I saw somewhere this place was rated one of Wilmington's Top ten places to eat/drink. I am not sure who was doing the rating but I am getting the feeling the owners of this place have a lot of friends voting just to help them out.

Warm pitcher of beer at a pub.... need I say more?

I got a grilled chicken sandwich and was served a sliced turkey sandwich. When I ordered the sandwich I asked the server if it was fresh chicken breast that they cook themselves or chicken in a bag that's warmed up.  She assured me it was cooked fresh.  She apparently isn't very honest. When I pointed it out to my server she said "that's how we cut our chicken here".

Veggie Calzone was fair.  I've heard the pizza is OK but I am not going to waste my time or money to find out.

If you decide to go, I hope your experience is better than mine.
