Yelp helped me find this one, so I should repay with my own review. Honestly, I almost left when I first got there. It was very busy and loud. I had to wait to put my name in, because the host was in the weeds. I finally had to speak up and have him take my name. The good news it was only a 20 minute wait for our table. After that, everything else went great. Our sever was very nice and was on top of things. One of my biggest complaints is when a server does nothing but take my order and collect the money. Not here, she checked on us regularly and made sure our drinks stayed full. Now to the Q. Awesome. Period. The ribs were tender and spiced just right. I used the "Hot" red sauce, which was killer. The pulled pork was even better. I had a side of chicken chili, which was the best I have eaten. The only thing I was meh about was the Mac n cheese. I don't like creamy Mac, I wish it was more like a casserole, but it's not. Anyway, go here and nowhere else. It won't disappoint.
Review Source:I have only been to  the Sullivan's store...Brisket is very good...The rest, and I've tried most, is marginal at best....We don't have to eat that crap and pay for it...Just don't go....Pretty much a rip off....Ribs are of horrible quality and not done to the perfection that I can do on my Weber....We really don't have ANY great BBQ anymore....Never did actually....This joint is NOT GOOD....
Review Source:We came in for a late lunch after doing some touring around Charleston. We started with the wings, which I think were definitely the highlight of the meal. Â I followed it up with the chicken salad which was served with a spinach salad. Â My entree was just okay - the chicken salad didn't have enough flavor and after the wings, I expected more. Â My dad said the brisket was awesome and my brother and mom enjoyed the ribs. Â They also split the pulled pork which they reported wasn't worth much. Â However, I would love to know how they got all of that flavor into their wings and I definitely need to find a recipe for their sauce - yum!
Review Source:Fiery Ron's was more of an "experience" than anything else. It was packed to the gills with 20 something's squeezed into booths, chatting loudly and enjoying exotic drinks with rum and pineapple or beer. Gary and I were among the few 50 something's but we enjoyed it none-the-less.
Even though there was a line, we were seated within 10 minutes. The cute couple next to us recommended the pulled pork and chicken wings so that's what we ordered. We split a two meat combo of ribs and pulled pork and an order of wings. The combo came with two sides and we chose grits, that we're delicious, and good old fashioned cole slaw. The food was very good and the variety of sauces added to the favors. The meal was affordable and very filling.
It was a fun place to eat after a day on the beach. It was tough to find parking but it was the 4th of July weekend, so it was to be expected.
Did takeout here two nights ago. Â The pork sandwich was great; pulled pork was incredible, the bun was soaked with grease and tasty pork residue. Â The baked beans were good but not as good as Voodoo's were in Simpsonville...maybe because I had the Voodoo beans on my mind, I couldn't excuse Home Team for only providing beans that were so-so. Â Also had some of the Machos (chicken nachos) and the BBQ chicken wings...both apps were okay, and the BBQ layer on the skin of the wings was good but not amazing. Â Really, the highlight was the sandwich and I'd go back for that in a heartbeat...also very reasonably priced. Â The space at the physical restaurant looked like it would be a ton of fun if I was to eat in the restaurant so on next year's family visit I'm sure to go back!
Review Source:Gosh, I hate to give it a bad grade, but this is our third visit and it is not any better..
Table of 4, we had a cheeseburger, very good, but not great.  Brisket, was just average at best, extremely dry and it was cut into perfectly cut squares almost like it was processed. It  was served with a chicken breast which tasted good but again, nothing that you couldn't make at home.  This meal was 18.00 and my husband was still hungry after he ate it.
I had the 6 wings and they were incredible.  Dry rubbed and very good.  Small wings, but the flavor and the dip was outstanding.  Sides were coleslaw,  ok, mac and cheese, good but cold (both of them) and beans (tasted like canned).
Our server, Chris was fantastic even though she got swamped and we had to wait for everything.. Definitely not her fault.  She got and deserved the over 20% tip we gave her. Â
Overall, I am not sure how this place was rated the best BBQ? Â Maybe if they would have had ribs (they didnt have them tonight a Monday? Â How do you run out if that is your bread and butter?) Â then it may have been a better review. Â But from a local, there is no reason we would go back. Â Sorry guys... . Â We have been there 3 times and it has been the same every time.
By the way two out of three visits there were no ribs? Â Very odd.
Home Team BBQ has some of the best barbecue food around period. Â Their bbq chicken, smoked brisket sliders, and wings are all extremely tasty. Â The group of friends I go out with often goes at night and listens to live music while we eat...their music variety is usually pretty good. Â It does at times get really crowded inside the bar area and it's hard to move. Â The staff is not the nicest in town but they do their jobs well. Â Formerly known as the mind eraser, the renamed gamechanger is a great drink to get you feeling plenty tipsy. Â The one thing that keeps me away from their on some weekend nights is their $5 cover...I hate paying cover charges going into places knowing how much we spend on drinks and food to begin with. Just my food for thought.
Review Source:Nice brew selection
Great atmosphere
INSANELY GOOD BBQ!!!
What more can you ask for? I came to Home Team to try their critically acclaimed ribs but I'll return for the best beef brisket I've had in my life. Very unexpected since I've lived in Texas for 2 years where pulled pork is a mystery to most men while Brisket & Sausage is the famous 'cue of the Lonestar state. But I've never tasted any BBQ beef as delicious as HT's. I was literally in awe - I mean this wasn't just the best brisket I've ever had; this was some of the best food I've ever had. Words cannot describe my excitement of living 5 minutes from heaven on Earth.
Three words describe this place: OUT FREAKIN STANDING.  The only thing that  was not really really good was the corn bread muffin.  The rib meat fell off the bone.  The pulled pork was juicy and tender.  Kevin (the manger/owner??) brought out a sample if his "hot" sauce, for a self described chili head from New Mexico, it was really good, just the right mix if flavor and chili.  The wings are just simply amazing, skip the sauce though, doesn't really add anything and besides the rub on the wings is more than enough.
Review Source:Very cool spot to stop in after the beach. Low key. Get a Gamechanger - 8oz is more than enough to get a mid day buzz on, pineapple coconut rum in slushie form. We got the 3-4 rib platter, a brisket slider and a pork taco w/guacamole $28. The ribs are fall off the bone soft and coated w/rub. Sauces are all on the side. The brisket slider was tender and delicious. The pork taco was huge! 2 of these would be more than enough for a meal. The guac was 0.95 extra and worth it.
Review Source:Being a Kansas City BBQ snob, I find it hard to get BBQ the way I like it, this place is really good. The first time there I ordered 6 wings and the brisket platter and was blown away. The wings are a must smoked fall off the bone and tasty. Second time I had the pulled pork and yes...wings. Very much a bar atmosphere so do not get all dressed up to go more of a come as you are type of place.
Review Source:Wow, blew my mind, this place is so good! I had the smoked brisket slider and the pulled pork taco. Really loved both types of meat, but it was a little less messy to eat in slider form than taco form.
Seemed pretty crowded in a bustling good way for lunch on a Sunday. Spacious inside. Fun and relaxed atmosphere.
If I had to choose a last meal it would be at home team. Luckily it's not my last meal but is my favorite. It is always very happening and often has live music. The wings are the best on earth. They see un breaded and smoked with a secret rub. It gives them a nice crispy skin with a juicy inside. Â The white sauce to dip them in is spectacular. It is like a coleslaw dressing but a little sweater. Â Try one of their can't miss sides as well. Top it off with a pain killer and its hard to beat. Can't wait to get back.
Review Source:My friend told me that this was some of the best barbecue in the Charleston area. I'm from Charlotte and we tend to know our 'cue so I had a high expectation.
Home Team has a great location on Middle Street in the high traffic area of Sullivan's Island. This makes for great people watching if the weather is decent and you take a table outside on the "patio" area. Which I did.
I ordered the two-meat combo - ribs and pulled pork. With potato salad and mac & cheese. I found the ribs to be a bit dry and the sauce, though tangy and tasty, didn't really help much. The pork was pretty good but also leaning towards dry. The potato salad was not a favorite either - the potatoes were still too al dente and it screamed from the tart onions that were mixed in. What saved the meal was the mac & cheese with was nice and creamy and the noodles were cooked right. Maybe it was that I arrived here at 6:00, which might have been before the dinner meals really started rocking?
Great beer selection.
The pulled pork is amazing!! We had the pulled pork platter, which also comes with two sides. We chose the cuke and tomato salad and cole slaw. The pork was moist, tender and delicious! The sides were equally as tasty. You can also add one of their four sauces from the table. The red sauce mixed with the red hot sauce was my favorite. Sweet with a kick. The service is outstanding as well. A local favorite but great for those traveling. This place is a must! We go every year while traveling to Charleston, SC.
Review Source:Stayed on Sullivan's island this year for family vacation and heard Home Team does trivia on Tues. Decided to go there for dinner first. Glad we did. This place is awesome. We got the loaded nachos for an appetizer, and they may be the best I've ever had. At our table we had the pulled pork sandwich, the smoked sausage sandwich, and the pulled pork platter. Everything was great, and the mac-n-cheese as a side is outstanding. This place is worth the trip.
Review Source:This place was okay. The pulled pork and chicken were moist, but not really the smokey flavor I expected. The sauces were nothing too exciting either. The Mac and cheese had good flavor and the cole slaw was good. The painkiller wasn't too good either, but the place had a nice atmosphere and decent food so I give it 3 stars. It was just too pricey for the food being good, but not great.
Review Source:Came here on a recommendation from a server at 2 Boroughs in Charleston. We came on a Wednesday afternoon, small crowd, the bar tender was very nice and helpful. This seems like a great place to get shwasted in/at, it has a very beachy vibe, open air layout, and nothing makes you want to drink tons o' beers like rugby on the television.
She recommended the wings and the pulled pork, we weren't too hungry so we ordered the wings and a pulled pork slider, just to get a taste. The wings are out of this world, dry rubbed and not wet, but still moist. Most places I'm used to fry the wings and serve them with a sauce, but these were perfectly grilled? and served dry, you could put home made awesomely tangy hot sauce or just go dry. The pulled pork was smokey and tender, awesome with the home made cole slaw.
The Mrs. tried a frozen concoction called the 'pain killer' she was loopy by sip 4, it did the job. The beer selection is awesome here tons of bottles by larger brewers (hoegarden) and smaller breweries (flat tire).
The choice of music too was pretty great, every awesome alternative 90's rock song imaginable, it went well with the perfect weather and the awesome food.
Would totally recommend this place to anyone heading down to Charleston, it's a nice little drive too and it's a great island to explore.
So, as a "retired" member of food service, I must say, this is a definite home run for the home team! Â
Our server made sure we were acclimated, made suggestions, was friendly and knowledgeable! Â
My lunch date's rib plate was amazing! Â Some of the creamiest, most flavorful mac n chz I have ever had the pleasure of having! Â The potato salad was also perfectly done - not too much of anything, but evidently just the right amount of potato, dressing and spice! Â His 1/2 rack of ribs had an amazing dry rub that really didn't need any additional sauce, but the sauces were all fantastic as well! (His favorite was the classic. Â While I enjoyed the mustard, you could taste the sweet honey - and I like tangy - so I opted for the pepper vinegar - which was DE-licious!!)
My plate of pulled pork was equally as amazing with a side of crispy, refreshing cucumber and tomato salad. Â
We really enjoyed our lunch at Home Team. . .no matter that it was 100 degrees outside, they do a great job of keeping the interior comfy!
We did have a hard time finding a parking place, but I can see why!!
Great job to the service staff, the BOH and the leaders of the team!
Sometimes five stars just aren't enough. Â This place is great. Â Wonderful atmosphere, service, and the food was out of this world. Â I had the pulled port BBQ platter with collards and creamy grits. Â My wife had a brisket slider and pimento cheese sandwich. Â It was terrific. Â Reasonably priced too. Â I will be back for the wings. Â Great job Home Team BBQ.
Review Source:Went on a Sunday night, live music at 7 p.m. was a great find!  The  BBQ is not overbearing, just really good smoky flavors.  I had the pulled pork nachos, while good I would recommend just latching into some of the smoked chicken wings (awesome) and some of the pulled pork (some of the best smoky goodness I've had).  I didn't have anything else but smelled the brisket several times and I'm sold.  Great atmosphere, definitely worth the time.
Review Source:I didn't eat at either location of this restaurant, but they provided the dinner for a blues boat cruise my husband and I took this evening. Â
We are BBQ fanatics and we really loved this food. Â The chicken was incredibly moist and tender (and that goes for the breast meat too!) and the pork was great. Â They offered 2 sauces (one sweet and one hot) and both were great. Â My husband usually doesn't eat mac and cheese, but he tried mine after I raved and he took a big heap on his second visit to the buffet. Â That's the only time I've ever seen him eat mac and cheese - it's that good.
The 2 guys that worked the buffet table couldn't have been nicer.
Kudos to this place.
Oh how my heart, mouth, and stomach miss HomeTeam. The bar service is always 5 star. The food NEVER disappoints. AND, they will cook it all up for you and let you take it home and pretend you made it yourself! Yes, I've done it. It's southern que done right by some great guys.
My FAVORITE things at Home Team:
-Mac & Cheese
-BBQ Nachos
-Mac & Cheese
-Red Sauce
-IT'S THE UGA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEETING LOCATION!
-Mac & Cheese
Mmmm, let's see, a 1/2 pound of pulled pork with a side of Mac and cheese and collard greens and a cornbread muffin for $9.50??? Yes, please!
That's exactly what I had at Hometeam BbQ on Sullivans Island.
I'd heard about this place for years and finally got there this weekend. Hometeam did not disappoint.
Very crowded lunch on a Saturday afternoon but we were seated quickly and served even faster.
We had our family vacation one island over at Isle of Palms and ventured over to Home Team BBQ for lunch.
I'll start with the good. The food was ok. Not the best BBQ I ever had, but had a good favor and decent sized portions. Very kid friendly food was another plus.
The not so good. The service was terrible. Slooooow and not very attentive. BBQ should not take more than an hour to order and consume. We were there nearly 2 hours. Hungry kids + slow service = bad experience. Also the layout was poor, it seemed like people were sitting on top of each other. Felt very cramped.
If I am ever back in that area, I'd eat there again, but wouldn't go out of my way to stop by.
Home Team was able to accommodate a loud, obnoxious group of guys a bachelor party with great food and really good service. 10 of us sat down after an exhausting morning of playing golf and enjoying ourselves. Most probably didn't care what they were eating but as always, I was eager to find out what a new place had to offer. In fact, it offered a large number of the food and drink options that I always enjoy. BBQ, Tacos, Nachos, and Beer. The draft selection wasn't large, from what I could see, but it did have good quality. The Atlanta natives ordered a round of Sweetwater 420's and two orders of Nachos for the table.
I'm pretty sure people might have been disgusted at the way I ate those nachos. Getting your fork out to scrape the cheese off the bottom of the plate is a clear sign that one has a nacho problem. I ordered two tacos, one pork with the crazy tomato/carrot salsa concoction and another with brisket and the green chile salsa. The brisket taco was one of the better tacos I've had in a while and didn't go cheap on the quantity. While the pork was good it didn't stand out like this brisket. The tender meat combined with a little bit of the char/bark that comes with BBQ for crazy flavor. I might be inclined to switch salsa's to increase the heat next time around.
The service was great and the server accommodated us best she could. Some people hate splitting checks 18,974 ways but she enlisted the help of some other staff and made the best of it. Kudos.
Awesome BBQ....I'm use to the sweet-BBQ sauces...but this place had the best smoked BBQ ever (non-sweet sauces)! Nice little place outside the city in Sullivan's Island. Decor was cool....good times, good service and good eating!
We went on a Thursday night..so we missed out on the bands there. But they book a lot of blues bands on their special band nights with the looks of their flyers!!! If you're in the Charleston area...hit up this place. It's not that pricey either!
BTW.....I had the beef brisket (should of gave a bit more for dinner though), the sweet tea, good red rice and awesome BUTTER BEANS!!!
