I like Five Bucks, big bar space, a wide selection and middle of the road prices. I'd definitely go back. Also, the line to get in was huge in the front so we bypassed it by going through the bar next door which connects to the back of five bucks and their outside "terrace" Showed our IDs one more then bada bing bada boom, right into the back bar. High rollers we are. Their speciality is this humungo cup of beer for ...yup, you guessed it, 5 bucks!
Review Source:I second everything Christopher B explained in his review. Except that I did not get kicked out for bringing my mixed drink to the table!!! HAHA (I guess I just got lucky).
Yes, it was crowded, but I have seen worse, especially for the time (past midnight on a Saturday night).
We were only here for a little while. I can;t really even remember what kind of music they played. I had a drink or to and goofed around with friends. I took some very embarrassing pictures of some of my friends. I was happy not to be in the pictures.
If you are going out in downtown St. Pete. You will have about as much fun here and many of the other places around. I had not gone out downtown in quite sometime, so it is a bit difficult for me to compare.
Even though it was crowded, there always seemed to be a place at the bar and I was always helped within a reasonable amount of time. We were able to grab a table pretty quick. There was a line out front to get in, but there is also a back entrance with no line. I was happy my friend knew about it. Overall, we had a lot of fun finishing up our night here. This place is A-OK!!!
5 bucks is such a fun bar downtown. Â
Don't go here if you are looking for a fancy dinner or anything. Â
It's a fun loud bar... with no smoking. Â They list all there beers on a chalk board on the wall, but of course you could always look at the taps or ask. Â All drinks are $5 or less in the normal cups, but if you get a large cup (which is about 3x the size of the smaller one) the price is in proportion.
This is an amazing place to go on First Fridays. Â They have live music inside and it gets crowded, but not unenjoyable crowded. Â There is an outside bar that has bar stool seats. Â Someone else mentioned there is another bar by the outside entrance that is called green room or something, they only sell beer/wine.
All in all this is one of my favorite bars downtown. Â You don't have to dress to impress and it's always a good time.
The best I can say about this place is that it is inexpensive for downtown but still NOT $5!!! Â So really why is it called Five Bucks Drinkery when my basic drinks were NOT $5? Â Anyways, the place is always so crowded that you can't move. Â Most often I end up drinking outside. Â The thing is that the outside bars are not from the same place! Â One is beer and wine only and will kick you out of the tables that they share if you don't drink only beer and wine. Â I think this is the organic place though I don't remember their name. Â Don't drink there. Â Five bucks is better but why stand around outside when there are a dozen better bars along Central. Â Go to the Garden, Mastry's, the Buffalo Hide, or a ton of others that are just better bars.
Review Source:Chicken Fried Bacon, Buffalo tater tots and five dollar drinks?!? Â This is a great way to start the weekend! Â The staff were all very accommodating and worked quickly to make sure the crowded bar was taken care of. Â One guest was having such a great time he bought a round of 60 shots!!! Â
I also liked the fact that people weren't smoking because my allergies can't handle that.
Five bucks drinkery is great, yeah for you yuppies it's not the Vinoy and I agree you won't be happy (so don't go back). Â The drinks and the food are very reasonably priced (most things $5 or less). Â They have a great selection for drinks (full liquor) and the food is awesome they have a so many different items that you never see anywhere else, like the Mac & cheese melt with pulled pork (it's awesome). Amanda & Torsten are always great and their service is always on point.
Review Source:Not a bad place for a divey yet pleasant place to hang out. I stopped by on a quiet Sunday afternoon to kill some time before my flight. Â They have a nice selection of beer and beer to go which is cool. Â You can tell that this is a place where some power drinking occurs on busy nights. Â
The menu is standard pub fare and I liked the chicken fried bacon which was pretty damn good. The service I received was pretty good too.
I'd recommend it for a quick casual stop in. Nothing to rave about but it wasn't a bad place either.
They are open until 3 am on weekends, and at about 2:30 they announce last call, so I order a beer at last call, and about 3 minutes later, they turn on all the lights and kick everyone out - they wouldn't let me finish my beer and the bouncer actually knocked my beer out of my hand. Â I would not recommend this place to anyone given the terrible service. Â Also, there's just a douche-bag element to this place that is rather pervasive.
Review Source:Five bucks is not a 5 star restaurant, however, as far as bars go - it's as good as it gets! We love Five Bucks. First, everything is $5 or less. Can't beat it. Very large beer selection and really good (bar) food. Their sandwiches and tots are awesome. We love hanging out here at all hours. The staff is friendly and always attentive. Definitely our favorite place downtown.
Review Source:My drink was not $5. I feel dubbed. I am not complaining though. My drink was $4. Â My visit was on a Sunday afternoon. Â They weren't busy nor dead. Â I didn't notice a large draft selection, but at least they didn't have the standard "frat/sorority" beers. Â I have no clue what the bottle selection was like because i only stopped by for one beer.
Review Source:The food was great  but the bartender (Corrie) was rude and slow. I asked up front about a dish and she charger me extra with out telling me. I will never come here again.
9/03/11 Against my better judgement I tried again. The same bartender was there I sat down to order to go food ( I love chicken and waffles. And I had a taste for them ). When Corrie came over I stated that I wanted place a to go order, she interrupted me and ask did I want something to drink I was like no just food. I placed my placed my order and she came back and told me the price I gave her my money in her hand she bought my change back and placed it on the filthy bar. I still left a small tip because she placed the order. but she is not the nicest person......She picked up the tip didn't say thank you or anything. Now when I got my food and went back to work I discovered that the waffle was supper soggy with no syrup on it. and my chicken was not done all the way..........I guess its just not meant for me to come to this spot. With the great beer selection and prices I would enjoy it but I can not deal with the bad service. All the other places I visit on the same strip the staff is friendly.
Excellent beer selection and prices. Fun atmosphere without being too clubby. Digital jukebox with tons of options, as well as darts outside. I received great, attentive service at the bar. This place is an excellent casual bar to hang out in! Pleasantly crowded at least on First Friday.
My only wish is that they had some healthier food options. It's great "munchies" but everything includes either a hot dog or nacho cheese. I suggest only eating here late at night when you don't care what's going into your body...which I assume is really the point of their menu anyway, it's a drinkery after all, not an eatery.
Big fan of cheap drinks, laid-back environments, and friendly staff? Then like me, this place is for you as well. They have a fairly extensive beer list posted right up on the wall. It's huge. You're blind if you miss it. The bartenders are helpful in choosing a beer for you if you care to venture off the beaten path of your routine selections. Not to mention, they're attentive to your re-filling desires. My buddy and I needed a breather after getting a little too sloppy faster than we'd like. They have free darts right outside in that covered hallway area. If it's free, it's for me. Right? I have a feeling I'd be coming here more often than I should. Cheers!!
Review Source:I'm a tad surprised that this place has received such high ratings. I've been there a few times, and it's always been "just ok", and slightly boring.
The food is alright, standard items that you could order at Chili's or any other chain; the drinks are ok too, nothing too original or beyond the expected standard inventory.
I like the concept, but if I had received better service I'm sure my rating would have been at least a 3.
What a brilliant idea, executed to perfection! A bar that offers up a wide selection of draft and bottled beers, hot food and appetizers, and all the fun and music and drinking you'd want in a great bar... and offer everything up for under five bucks!
Nothing overly fancy about this place, but it is a TON of fun to visit. Plenty of seats at the bars, a few tables scattered throughout the building, so you won't have trouble finding a place to sit and relax. The bartenders are cool, attentive, and very chatty. Since the drinks are cheap, venture out and try something new- ask the bartenders about the different microbrews on tap and in the fridge. After putting a few down, get out and play some darts, or throw some songs up on the jukebox!
Really can't think of too much else to say about Five Bucks. A GREAT little bar to sit and relax, have some drinks and hot food, make some great friends, and have a great time. Had a blast here, and will definitely be stopping back in when I'm down in St. Pete again.
I stopped in to Five Bucks for a quick drink after dinner and had a great experience for the short amount of time I was there. The bartender was helpful in picking out drinks and fun to talk to. I'm sure I'll be back again.
UPDATE: Well, whenever I'm in the mood for a dive/college bar atmosphere or lat-night food, this is where I like to go. Giant beers, incredible menu items like the pulled-pork mac & cheese sandwich (yes, you read that correctly), and a younger crowd usually give you a good time.
My only complaint is service (You with heavy sarcasm: "In a bar? Really?"); Yes, even when popping in for a late lunch and the place is near empty the service is incredibly slow.
My recommendation is if you're in a hurry or want a real meal, go somewhere else. But if you want to post up and work on fattening yourself up on fantastic fried food and beer, this is an excellent place to do so.
