I eat here often, never been disappointed, the $6 bar menu before 7pm is the BEST happy hour deal in town, the burger is outstanding, as is the new pork belly. I'm always happy with any of the steaks, the wine list is outstanding. Ask to meet Trad and make sure to ask him about some wines that are not on the list, he usually has something unique in the back. I usually eat at the bar, even if I'm not ordering from the special bar menu, because I enjoy all of the bartenders, Evelyn, Jimmy, and Curtis, they remember my name, and they seem actually happy to be there. A recent bad experience at Harry and Izzy's made me remember how much I enjoy Flemings. Yes, it's a little pricey, but all good steakhouses are expensive, and most do not have this interesting of a wine list.
Review Source:This is my favorite steak house in Indianapolis. Wonderful service, great steaks, and a lengthy wine menu. While things here may be a touch pricey - it's worth it. I've only had poor service here one time out of the many times I've eaten here. My recommendation is to ask for Adam - he's a great waiter without hovering.
Review Source:Stopped in for early dinned lest week primarily to.take advantage of northside nights. I ordered the shrimp bisque soup and barbeque shrimp. The soup was not good at all, Â but I absolutely loved the barbeque shrimp. The house baked bread was really good. It comes with two different types of butter. Tomato Basil was my favorite.
As the entree,I had the filet mignon and stuffed shrimp. The shrimp had an awful smell but the steak was tasty. It was served with cheese au grating potatoes and string beans.
While this meal was just okay, Â the happy hour specials were quite special. There are several appetizers for $6. It also included a burger option which seemed to be a smash hit. Â I saw at least 5 burger's ordered.
This restaurant is close to us and my go to spurge. Â I'm so glad they have the happy hour bar menu and the small plate menu that's only served in the bar! Â It's great in this tough $ time to have some less expensive options. Â It's all so good. Â Besides, alot of us here in Indiana could stand smaller portions. Â Can I have an amen? Â Â Even though it's a steakhouse you HAVE to try their double lobster. Â It's my once a year spurge and the best I've ever had!
Review Source:Just went with their Steak and Sangria special. Â Let's call it a little bit of the Caribbean mixed in with Texas.
The salad included sliced strawberries, danish blue cheese crumbles, candied walnuts and a red wine vinaigrette. Â Very subtle, very fresh, very new.
NY strip with Jerk Seasonings. Â Â The seasoned prime steak was very flavorful. Â I felt like I was back in Jamaica. Â I was fairly surprised by the fattiness of the steak. Â Â It should have been trimmed a bit.
The dessert was a chilled white almond graham cracker based souffle.  I enjoyed the soft  textures and flavors.
The Sangria was outstanding, a combination of tequila, merlot and creme de cassis with fresh fruit. Â Do not think this is your Grandma's sangria. Â Â It has been turbo charged with Bobby Flay overtures.
I've been to three different Fleming's locations and they've been consistent every time: good food, excellent service, nice atmosphere.
Had four Small Plates: the filet mignon skewers, lobster tempura, filet mignon on risotto, and scallops. Everything was great and our server Jesse was super nice & attentive.
It's a bit pricey but the food is quality, so the value is good.
It's dressy but not formal-- don't wear shorts/jeans.
I met a friend for dinner at Fleming's and we both got the Northside Nights special for ~$30 each. I ordered the filet and crab stuff shrimp and both were great. The steak was of good quality, and seasoned and cooked perfectly. To my surprise, I found myself ordering their bread pudding for some reason. I am glad I did as its the best bread pudding I've ever tasted. Â Not my favorite "steakhouse" in Indy, but I would go back.
Review Source:We got a gift card for this place for Christmas last year. I had heard so many good things about it and I was really excited to try it. I have been to many of the steakhouses in Indianapolis and I had heard it was like Sullivan's or St. Elmo's. First off, the service was really bad, our waiter was more of a fast talking used car salesman, corny jokes and semi inappropriate. He kept calling me "man" all night, even my girlfriend's dad. Â I usually wouldn't let this bother me, but this place was expensive, even with a gift card, so when the waiter talks to me like its TGI Fridays, it's kinda weird. Â We all ordered wine by the glass, some of our drinks came out looking like they had been spilled on the way to the table, some full, some barely half with wine running down the side. The steak was okay...it wasn't horrible but for a "Prime Steakhouse" with a prime steakhouse price I expected more. I honestly wouldn't go back there. Maybe it was just an off night but when I'm paying $200 for dinner, this is unacceptable.
Review Source:Big steak on a plate, $40.
Ridiculous? Â Probably, but this NY Strip was cooked to a *perfect* medium rare and didn't need a single dash of salt (or anything else). Â I loved it, 4.5 stars out of 5. Â Was it worth $40 by itself? Â Errr ... with a gift card, YES.
Overall, we enjoyed the experience. Â Service was fine albeit a bit aloof. Â When you come here, it's really all about the steak so that's why Fleming's gets 4 stars overall instead of 3 ... they cook a damn fine slab of meat.
The fresh mozzarella & sweet tomato salad was good (3.5 stars). Â The Fleming's potatoes were standard-issue au gratin potatoes (3 stars) but when the menu description says it includes jalapeno, I expect to taste a little bit of that ... alas, we couldn't detect any jalapeno essence whatsoever. Â My bride liked -not loved- her crab cakes (3.5 stars) and mentioned that she wished there had been bigger chunks of crab. Â The walnut turtle pie was quite excellent (4.5 stars) and the decaf coffee was solid.
Expensive + tasty = Fleming's. Â Give me another gift card and I'll happily return. Â Otherwise, if I'm going to be dropping more than a Benjamin on a meal for two people, I'd rather go to Recess.
We go to Fleming's a lot for the 5 for $6 before 7 happy hour. Â We sit in the bar, drink pretty good wine & eat some good food for not a lot of $$$. Â The burger is by far the best deal for $6. Â We always order it & it's definitely big enough for two to split. Â It's also really good!
Costco currently has $100 worth of Fleming's gift cards for $75 or $80. Â Go there first to get an even better deal!
Best customer service of any of the higher end steakhouses in town. Â Grossly underrated place. Â Much better in food quality and in service than St. Elmo's. Â The steak prices are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Â The bearnaise sauce is free though -- yippee!
They overcooked my steak on the last visit. Â I notified our server and she had newly fired steak for me within minutes and didn't charge me for the steak, even though I only had to wait about 6 minutes for the new steak. Â Very impressive. Â
Definitely try the chocolate lava cake. Â You'll think you don't have room...but you manage. Â Very different from most desserts on other menus. Â
Trad is a manager (I think) and Katie is a new server. Â They both do an excellent job. Â
$30 prime rib special
$32 steak
$10 dessert
$32 bottle of wine
with tax and tip = $132
My only, only, ONLY complaint is that their prices are so high. Â I woud love to come more often, but at these prices, it is definitely a splurge.
I received a gift card to Fleming's as an engagement gift. Given that we are saving for a wedding, $100 dinners aren't a regular thing for us. But, when I saw their $30 prime rib special, we decided to give it a try. I made reservations for 6 p.m. on a Sunday, thinking back to how crowded it has been on Sundays at Fogo de Chao. But Fleming's was virtually empty and we were seated immediately. The server came over to introduce herself and brought water ... and then disappeared.
Seriously. We sat there for TEN MINUTES, with water (and eventually bread), whie we waited for her to show up. It was almost comical. I was about ready to go over to the bar to order the glass of wine I wanted. Once the waitress returned and took our order, though, the food arrived at a nice pace.
The meal came with a salad, 12 oz prime rib, a side item and dessert. It was an insane amount of food for $30. Everything was delicious and the leftovers were nicely packaged for us. The chocolate lava cake was wonderful.
Even with a $50 gift card, out total with tip was just over $40. That was with the addition of one glass of wine and an iced tea ($3.50!).
The food was good but, you know, I'm just as happy cooking a steak at home ... and at home I can drink an entire bottle of wine for what I paid for one glass!
One odd touch: The waitress left her business card with the bill. Am I supposed to request her again? Email her? Weird.
Based on the same pricing tier as Ruth's, Sullivan's, Moe's, Morton's, etc., I felt our experience wasn't up to par as the others. The dining room was quite loud, mainly fueled by the loud music piped throughout. Our server was soft-spoken, so there was a lot of repeating. Our server was gracious and overall good, but not as attentive as the other restaurant listed earlier. Regarding food, the appetizers were a bit off tasting. The seared tuna had a burnt char taste to it, like a steak that's burnt on the outside. It was off putting. However the wasabi sauce-like condiment was fabulous. Â The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was meaty and very tasty, only to become a dud when coupled with a Mrs. T's like cocktail sauce. I would recommend ditching the fancy chipotle variant and stick with a highly horseradish-ed version. The salads and bread were very good. Our steaks and crab legs were cooked perfectly and had a very good taste. The Peppercorn New York wasn't shy on the peppercorns, almost too much. And the F17 sauce was actually quite good, as was the Flemings Potatoes. Overall the experience was good, however not the same caliber as others in this price range.
Review Source:As I sat down to write this I had decided to rate this as three star, but when I went through the components of my ratings I had to go higher somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0. I will start by saying the food was excellent, save two items. I ordered the light filet (6 oz.) which comes with the Fleming's potatoes. The potatoes which were hot on the outside, were just cold on the inside. In other reviews people had complained about slow service, ours was too quick. My wife only wanted a salad and the crab cakes, an appetizer, everything arrived at once including my steak. In a place that charges these prices these kinds of things should not happen. All that said I would come back, but they are on probation.
Review Source:Went here for the first time tonight and had a very nice experience. Some of the reviews I read made mention of the service as a negative. Â I was very impressed with the service. Â Everyone was pleasant and attentive. Â
The food was great and portions were more than I expected. Â Server was very knowledgeable of the wine selection and suggested a wine that was exactly how he described it. Â The filet was well cooked. Maybe a bit more fat/gristle than I would have expected but it was a good piece of meat with good flavor. Â My wife had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. Â
Now to why I gave it a 4. Â All picky things I know. Â Steak as described above. Â Scollops dish was about $8 per scallop. Again, they tasted great but were expensive for what you get. Â Contradicts my earlier comments about portion size. Â I guess I was more referring to the side dishes. Â Next semi-negative....the shrimp cocktail was not the most fresh shrimp I have ever had. Â Being from the east coast I am used to very fresh seafood. Â The cocktail sauce was very good however. Â Last item I will mention here was the server picking up signed bill while we were still seated. Â Being a server previously this is a small pet-peeve of mine. Â The serve, overall, did a very nice job!!!
I will return at some point!
Unfortunately, for me, Flemings fell flat in a most forgettable experience. I haven't been back since cause a dinner that should have taken an hour, lasted two and half painful hours. The drinks were good, but that was as far as it went. The server should have taken a clue from the fact that we barely ate half of our fillets that they were just not good. Should have went to Sullivan's but I wanted to try someplace new, and this was before I discovered Yelp... was learning the hard way. Sigh.
Review Source:Fleming's steakhouse is an extremely upscale restaurant with a fantastic, dimly lit atmosphere that is perfect for celebrating a special occasion. They have a wonderful selection of premium martinis, and fine wines along with a full bar. The wait staff is very attentive, and great at pampering you with wonderful starter bread, and constant attention especially when it comes to filling drinks.
Unfortunately, these things do not make up for the overpriced and uninventive nature that is Fleming's. The food was all very good. We began with Calamari that had an asian fusion twist with peppers and sweet sauce. The flavour was very good; however, the sauce had made then soggy, and I like my Calamari crunchy. Next was the blue cheese wedge, which was very traditional, and good, filled with chunks of blue cheese (and no bacon, which I was happy about). Our steaks were tasty, and pretty tender (could have been more flavorful), and because everything is a la carte we shared some creamed spinach, which was good.
My conclusion is that everything was good, but between the five of us we ordered six drinks, and normal meals and it was 70 dollars plus tip per person. For that kind of money I was expecting a memorable, life altering meal. While everything was tasty it certainly wasn't the best meal I have ever had. My recommendations are either Sullivan's (just west of Fleming's) for a similar, traditional steak meal or 14 West (downtown) for something that you can't make at home, and you've never had (Lobster mashed potatoes).
Flemings is great! Â I've been there twice and neither time have been disappointing. Â I really enjoy the calamari; it's really good especially with the banana peppers and red peppers that are sauteed with the dish. Â They are a great compliment to the calamari and really enhances the flavor. Â I've orderd the filet both times and both times it turned out great. Â The lobster is also perfectly cooked, and one lobster tail is really filling. Â The lava cake is amazing!!! Â The chocolate cake was perfect and coupled with the homemade chantilly cream it was perfect!
The service was excellent the first time; our waitress would cut our lobster tail for us and would be very attentive. Â Tonight, our server was good, but not as great as the first time. Â Overall, I've always felt welcomed at the restaurant and have really enjoyed the experience. Â It's definitely highly recommended.
The restaurant is also a wine bar, so there are many selections to choose from. Â I actually got the Mango Spice Martini, and it was awesome! Â The mango puree in the martini is soo yummy and tastes like fresh mangoes. Â it's awesome :)
4.5 stars. I have to say the steak is delicious here. I ordered the calamari, which is why it got a deduction. I thought the calamari was a tad too saucy and the aroma of the peperoncinis were too strong, made me kind of cough from the smell. They also serve bread which I really like the butter/cheese spread it came with. The steak came out how I like it with a nice little burnt crust with lots of flavor and not too chewy meat. Service was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. I would definitely recommend this place to others. It's a great place for social groups, business dinners and dates.
Review Source:My wife's favorite steakhouse in Indy. I prefer Moe's downtown for a classic steakhouse atmosphere and better service, but Fleming's is the best chain steakhouse I've been too. The atmosphere is upscale but casual, which is a welcome attribute considering i just want to eat good food, not don my Sunday's best to go out to eat. The food is excellent. Sides are enormous. Sunday 3 course Prime Rib is a ridiculously good deal. Great drink menu in addition to great wine list. The service USED to be exceptional. They USED to have team service, swoop in to great you, order drinks, order appetizers, refill drinks, ask if you want more drinks, clear plates, etc. The last two times we have gone NONE of this was the case. I hope the manager is reading this because I really want to change my review to 5 stars, and honestly 3 strikes and you're out no matter how much I want to come back, so next time is going to cinch the deal. I'm teetering on a 4 star but based on the lackluster service, I'm forced to give it 3 stars for now. Will return soon and revisit rating.
Review Source:A small primer on Steakhouses:
- Manly Man and Traditional = big everything, a bar that is made for being seen and picking up. Old pictures or autographed pictures of celebrities.
- Girlie Steakhouse = white linen and stuffed chairs, flowers and perhaps even, God forbid: plush carpet.
- Middle of the Road = a little of all of the above - not too manly, not to girlie, dimly lit, adequate bar, no flowers, maybe a football but you can also buy a size small t-shirt.
In Indianapolis St. Elmo's is the quintessential Traditional steak house (get the shrimp cocktail). Â Sullivan's is the Manly Man steakhouse. They even have bulldogs on their cigar ash trays in the bar. Eddie Merlot's is the Girlie steakhouse (and there's nothing wrong with that).
Shula's, Ruth's Chris and Fleming's all fall into the Middle of the Road category. Â Which is a bit of a problem from the start. Â Really, when it comes to Steak Houses let's not try to be all things to all people. But, having been there on several occasions, Fleming's actually does fit the bill for a nice business dinner with a diverse group. Â So for this evening's dinner, Fleming's it was.
It's funny how the economy which has slowed everything down and especially the restaurants seems to have adversely affected service. Â It's inverse logic that a half empty restaurant equals less than expected and less than normal service. Â But that was the case on this evening. Â I think our server was new but nonetheless, the manager should have made accommodations and kept a closer eye on the proceedings of the evening. In all seriousness, our server was fine, but the service was a little off and it wasn't the servers fault - which makes perfect sense to me.
The drink orders were uncoordinated, ultimately mixed up and the martinis were a little short. The food was very good but not outstanding. Â The Ahi was slightly less fresh than expected. Â Finally, the biggest distraction of the evening was that the tables are too small and 4 people, each with an alacarte order is downright dangerous. Â Even the server commented that the tables were a little too small.
I'll go back to Fleming's probably before I go to Ruth's or Shula's. Â But they were definitely having an off night last night.
The Patz and Hall Pinot was incredible however.
Man, I give a lot of 4 star reviews.
This review is of the bar and desserts only. Â I can't afford to eat here for dinner haha.
I like it when a server can fly by the seat of their pants and bring you a drink. Â I couldn't make a decision about a drink (mostly because I was already a little loaded) so I said "bring me some flavor of martini". Â Now, the gal went the safe route and brought me a lemon drop martini, but at least she didn't balk. Â Some servers are like "well, what do you like?". Â If I was picky, I'd order something specific!
We ordered the fresh berries and the peanut butter pie for dessert and both were AWESOME. Â The pie says "for two" and they aren't kidding! Â There were 4 of us nibbling on that bad boy and we still only ate 3/4 of it. Â It was super rich and decadent. Â The berries were firm, tasty and the cream sauce wasn't too overpowering.
I will say the place was seriously busy so that might be an indication of the food/service besides in the bar. Â If we're in that neighborhood and have cash to spend, we'll stop back in.
Yay! I discovered another great steakhouse this past weekend, and I'm already craving it again.
I went to Fleming's with some friends and had a great, great dinner and conversation. (I can't guarantee the conversation you have will be as good as ours, but I can bet the food will be!)
We started with drinks. I had a Fuzzy Navel, not too strong, not too weak. Just how I like it. We also ordered something I'd NEVER seen before: portobello steak fries...which were awesome.
For dinner, I ordered a petite filet medium well, and it was delivered steamy, juicy, and cooked to order...which is so many times not the case. I got the shoestring potatoes, which are like skinny, crunchy, yummy, salty and peppery french fries. Mmm. They were a perfect side item to the steak, which was a bit peppery in taste as well.
We talked for so long and never felt rushed. Just when we thought we might leave, our food had "settled" just enough to order a couple desserts to share. I could've eaten the molten lava chocolate cake myself ... anyone who knows me knows I order this EVERY TIME it's on the menu. I absolutely love it. This was a bit different, with pistachio chunks on the plate as well. I didn't care for that. I like my cake with not much else other than chocolate.
HIGHLY recommend this place. Very good indeed.
