Cool place, good service, ok food. Two at the table loved it and two of us didn't. It's the kind of place where they don't have salt on the table because they assume they season everything perfectly.... Not so much. Some of the food was just bland:-( I will give it another chance though. Go see for yourself.

I'm sorry, I've tried twice now, and I just don't get it.

The location is good, the atmosphere is nice, the service (Jason at the bar, both visits) is very good, and the specialty cocktails are fabulous. Who knew creme de violet was a good idea? Not this girl, and yet the Subterranean martini was yummy!!

But the food is just not good. The first time, I ordered the mahi and shortrib dumplings, mentioned in another review as underwhelming and mismatched, which is my summary as well. The fish was properly cooked, but that's the nicest thing I can say. Tonight, I thought I would try again, this time sticking to dessert. The tarte tatin crust somehow managed to have both a weird chewy texture, and a burnt aftertaste. The apples themselves also had a bizarre texture, as if dried apples were rehydrated or some such? To his credit, I think Jason noticed that I wasn't really on board, and he checked on me a couple of times, but how do you politely say to a server: "I want your kitchen to do a better job, just in general."?

Why don't they have halves on here? 3.5 is my official rating.

Took the wife out for her birthday last Friday as she picked it out herself. I was not really sure what to expect other than a light slightly expensive dinner.

I will start with the good: As we walked in, we were greeted promptly and were sat before our reservation time. Kind of made me wonder if we needed one at all but I digress. Back to the good stuff. As we made the journey to our table, we walked past the bar where you could see out to the patio area out doors. This kind of makes me want to go back to visit in the spring and fall to enjoy the fire they have going out there. The server we had seemed to know what was on the menu and was able to tell us about anything they had. We started with the Venison Carpaccio which should have been eaten in about 4 bits which I assume the pieces of bread were their to lead us that way. For dinner,  I was sold on the NY strip that was not for the faint of heart. I love meat but wow this was a lot. The wife got the pork. While we both really enjoyed the flavors, we had to have them boxed up. So portion size was at least equal to the cost of the items. We also shared a side of the Cali-flour as well which could have been a meal in and of itself. It was only okay in my opinion even with it being made in a way I had not been presented before in my life. We also ordered a dessert of toffee bread pudding. It was also very large and could have been shared with 4 people if needed much like the side dish we ordered. It was a really pleasant way to end the night on that note and probably overstuffed. We sipped on some cocktails through out the evening that were really tasty to say the least. Probably the most interesting thing I had of the night. I recommend starting out with those before you move onto the wine list.

The bad you ask? Well for starters, I would expect a beer menu of local brewers being the biggest focus with a place that seems to be big on buy local. We were never offered any such thing and I might have down the delightful cocktail I ordered a bit faster to order one or two if it would have been provided. Granite I could have asked for one but really a place that promotes local should continue to do so when I get in the doors. The wife's meal was topped with a wee mac "stout" Scottish ale. We pointed it out to the server we had that it should not say stout that it isn't actually a stout but a Scottish Ale. We don't know if it was a typo or if the Chef didn't know. If it was the Chef who made the mistake, shame on you. I hope it was just a typo. It is a bit nit picky but at least know your ingredients.

Overall, I thought this was a good fresh idea for dinning out. I hope to return to try a different cocktail the offer up or sip on some of the selection of Scotch while sitting out on the patio. Might even ask if they have a beer menu but I fear I might be disappointed there.
