So much fun! This year it's $5-10 per show, which is still a great deal. I just went to see the Lone Bellow and Radical Face.

The scene was pretty relaxed-- lots of people-- many young singles, and young families with kids (since kids under 12 are free). There were folks with blankets and folks standing around.

You can get beer, tacos, ad other tasty food too.

Some people were really into the music, and others were just there to chill with friends with the music as a backdrop. I'd never been to this before, but I'll definitely go again! Great scene.

Major kudos to Friday Cheers at Brown's Island! I was impressed with some of the acts they brought to town this past summer. Carolina Chocolate Drops and then Alabama Shakes for $5 a show is quite a deal. You might have to pay for parking if you don't arrive early enough to score a free spot. We usually had dinner at the Boka stand, a couple of beers each, and still ended the night under $60. So it's a good, cheap date. Plus the atmosphere is really cool - the canal and Richmond skyline around you and the occasional train rumbling slowly overhead. Bring a chair or blanket to sit back on the lawn or wiggle your way into the crowd at the stage to see the bands up close. My only complaint about Friday Cheers is that I wish it lasted all summer! But hey - at least I already have something to look forward to for next summer!

Friday Cheers is a wonderful way to experience Richmond at her best. The setting at Brown's Island is great. It's the perfect mix of beautiful scenery, history, and industry. This was our first year attending Friday Cheer's, but we plan to attend many more times in the future. Highly recommended.

Great fun even if I did get stood up. Parking is a bit of an issue, but that's about it. An outdoor concert venue with surprisingly good acoustics (here's a video I took: http://youtu.be/cvxhuly2…) and plenty of room. The train tracks are right next to the stage, but it didn't make much noise even when the cars started moving. There are plenty of food and drink vendors on hand. Even the port-o-johns are surprisingly clean and not too smelly.

For 2010 Friday Cheers is celebrating 26 years of parties on the River. It is scheduled to go from May 7-June 25th, 6:30pm - 9:30pm. The beer trucks are ready to cool down this well attended Richmond cultural event on Brown's Island.

The two entrances that take debit credit cards are at 5th and 7th street so plan ahead! Admission is $2 for ages 13 and up and free for ages 12 and under.

Acts featured are both National and Local/Regional. For a list of acts, check out the website provided here. It is a great, inexpensive way to enjoy the river and downtown Richmond with a fun and energetic crowd.

You know it's summer when the annual free concert series is up and running at Brown's Island. Called Friday Cheers, the series is really popular and about the only downside is that parking fills up fast at the street meters and Belle Isle lot.

This past Friday, even though it rained, several hardy souls stuck it out to rock with Stephen Kellogg and the SIxers.
