Amazing beer list! So many unique brews. Oh, and the food rocks, too.
Really, what more can you ask for? Atmosphere is outstanding. The people are so friendly and personable. The food is a broad variety of ethnic styles and flavors. Some are healthy and others... well, less so. :) But it's all good.
And the beer. Just think Homer Simpson looking at a mountain of doughnuts and you get my reaction to all the taps of local and micro brews. Don't be shy about asking to taste something you've never tried before either. They'll let you. The only problem with that is you'll probably want to have some of everything you try. There isn't a bad beer in the place. If I lived locally, this would be my local.
The friends and I adventured to this wonderful place. I am not a beer drinker so the review is just for the food. I got to sample my side of the tables entrees and boy.. was everything delicious!
My highlights:
-Holy Trinity (the queso is MONEY!!)
-Nachos
-Ahi Tuna Poke
-Fire Grilled Wings
-The Buffalo Burger (very lean and moist)
-Pulled Pork Sandwich (The BBQ sauce is so zesty)
-Taphouse Chicken Sandwich (Juicy chicken with a little spicy sauce)
*Some of the entrees come with granny smith apple cole slaw... I am not a huge fan of cole slaw but I ate all of mine and almost my husband's side. It was very unique and refreshing!
The place was clean, well decore, and wait staff was friendly. Really no complaints!!
Will definitely visit again!!
I'm not a huge beer person to begin with but I do like food! If you're a beer lover this is the perfect place to join a beer club. The layout of this place is nice and open there is a lot of room. The bar is HUGE and I like the two long bars behind it for extra space. There are also plenty of tables to sit down at. The food was so good! I got the pastrami sandwich that came with fries. Perfect late night greasy meal. The granny smith apple cole slaw is the best! I always pass on cole slaw because it has too much mayo and so bland but the thin granny smith slices give it a sweet but tart taste and give it some good flavor! It went perfect with my sandwich. The french fries were sooo good! I was so full I couldn't finish the other half.
Review Source:Pros:
fast service
friendly staff
nice and clean restaurant
good food
huge selection of beer
Cons:
no printed list of beer selection
very noisy- had to practically yell to have a conversation
parking was pretty limited (but they did provide a complimentary valet service)
MISC:
Spicy Steak Sammich - the BOMB dot com! A good amount of steak.. yummy, tender steak
Pulled pork - solid. It's not life-changing but a really good sandwich
Onion rings- big greasy goodness
It's hard choosing from fifty drafts, but you can do it......
I am a craftbrew nut and this place was a smack-dab-in-my-face lucky find. We were in Columbia because of a wife work trip (boo). We were taking a friend back to BWI and needed to kill some time. Nothing kills time better then good brews and let me tell you there are plenty here.
We bellied up and had a friendly, knowledgeable server/bartender. We were in Beervana! Feel free to look up at the two large big screens with the beer selections. While we were there two changed right before our eyes! So you know the tap beers are fresh. They have a nice list of locals brews, in addition to ones you've heard about from other parts of the country. Speaking of freshness, try the cask beers. This is as fresh as you can get. If you like Nitro, they have that too.
We had a few bites too, but not too much; we didn't want to ruin our dinner!
Okay get off yelp and get to frisco taphouse and Brewery! Stay thirsty!
Omg!! My mother came to visit us for a month and everytime we drove by this she would ask if we could go because it was always busy. The last weekend she was here we finally went and I am so sad we hadn't gone every week. It was truly delicious. I had the jambalaya, it was so good, it was super fresh tasting and had plenty of big chunks of meat/shrimp. My husband had the crab cake sandwich, he said it was super tasty and it came with an apple slaw that was so crisp and refreshing. My mom had the seared mahi mahi and she doesn't EVER eat fish, she loved it!! Said that she would have to come back when she visits us again. My 11 month old daughter had the kids pepperoni pizza, she liked it a lot, and I tried some and it was good!! We started with the Chorizo Queso dip and that by far was my favorite!! Sooooooo good!! I'll be back. On top of this great food there was terrific service! Our servers name on the bill was Spicoli and he was so friendly and didn't hesitate to chat with us and fill us in on the info and history of Frisco. I give this a 5 star!! Great food!
Review Source:This place has a very large beer list. They have a list above the bar, but I liked bring it up on my phone. Wish the app had a little more info about each beer though. I had the buffalo burger, which was cooked perfect to my taste. Besides the great recommendation on my beer, the queso was great(part of the Holy trinity appetizer). I wish I would have had the queso on top of my burger!
Review Source:Decided to stop by Frisco Taphouse & Brewery on my way back to NJ for dinner. This place doest look like much from the outside, but on the inside its a microbrewery with quite the tap selection of hard to find beers on draft. This is a beer bar, with the special bonus of having beers they make in-house on tap!
The bartender was nice enough to let me sample most of the Push (the local beer label) beers. I ended up ordering a pint of the Push/Tröegs Dirty Nectar Brown IPA. For dinner, ordered the Seared Mahi Fillet w/ creamy polenta, baby spinach, mango salsa, and lemongrass vinaigrette. There was plenty of fish and this meal was quite simply fantastic! Well worth the 15$ or so.
I really wished this place was local. This falls under my 'good value' category of awesome food, awesome beer (both brewed in-house and local guest), and a good fair price. Its not wonder they were quite packed!
The best craft-beer bar I've ever visited! Â When a place advertises 50 taps I figure it's the same ten beers at five different bars. Â Nope! Â Frisco has over fifty fascinating microbrews on draft, from stouts to IPAs to naturally carbonated cask ales which they pump by hand. Â And they brew their own Push-brand ales right on the premises. Many quart bottles of even more esoteric brews are ready in the coolers below the bar. Â
To confirm what others have written, not only is there no bud on tap, on one visit it was all American crafts, no foreign beers at all. Â On another visit they had Bitburger Pils, Jever Pils *and* Koestritzer Dark, all three awesome German beers.
The two huge screens over the bar show the current drafts, and for each the ABV. Â Yellow print on the screen means it's served in a goblet (11ish ounces), and white print means the beer is served in a pint glass. Â We watched them tap the last glass of DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus and bang a minute later that was no longer shown on the board. Â No prices on the board, alas. Â Beers are $6-7 each.
We asked about how they keep the tap lines so clean - apparently the keg room is immediately behind the awe-inspiring wide-as-a-highway 50-tap board, so the lines are all of one foot long. Â Nice!
We stuck to the bar, super friendly bar tenders too, seemed to know a lot about the beers. There were only eight huge TVs behind the bar :)
Try the wings! Â Super large, astonishingly temperature hot, and very nice dose of chipotle pepper sauce on the outside. Â Exceedingly messy and super tasty, highly recommended. Â A bit pricey at $11.
I can't recommend the pad thai. Â I know, how dumb am I to order a Thai dish at an American bar, but some yelpers said it was good .. but it was not. Â Overcooked noodles, too much sauce that was not flavorful, no bean sprouts and no cooked egg. Â It was a decent meal but at $14 I want much more.
Only downside - the place can be quite loud. Â All hard surfaces, music and then the Tuesday-night trivia contest on top of it all made conversation a bit of a challenge. Â The prices ain't much to brag about either.
Frisco, how do I love thee, let me count the ways...beer...beer...beer...beer....
Beer: phenomenal selection, very eclectic and ever-changing. Â 50 rotating taps, including two cask selections and (usually) a nitro beer somewhere in the mix. Â No Bud on tap. Â Ever. Â And, I am but four beers away from joining the Century Club...score!
Food: Pub grub designed and cooked by a chef...very tasty, very diverse...from Fajitas to Pad Thai to (my favorite) a most awesome pastrami sandwich. Â The homemade corn dogs (kielbasa in pale ale batter!) are to die for. Â The only weak links in the menu I've found are the burgers. Â I can't quite put my finger on it, but they're just not right...seem a little dry, a little bland...but there are so many other great options on the menu that I'm never disappointed.
Bartenders and waitstaff. Â Emilie and Mike are our "go-to" folks on this front. Â Awesome folks, the both of them! Â They know their beers like no other beer servers I've met and they're both nice enough to recognize us and say "hi" when we come in...kinda like "Cheers." Â One drawback to Frisco, though: the service at the tables is seriously challenged. Â I'm not sure if that's where they assign the beginners and you move closer to the bar the better you get (eventually ending up behind it!), but we make it a point to sit at the bar or the long fest-table. Â We've actually decided, based on past experiences, to stand and hover near the bar if faced with sitting at one of the tables as the only option.
BTW, this is not a place to bring your kids...they'll just annoy those of us trying to enjoy good beer and conversation. Â Leave them at home. Â Thank you.
So, Frisco gets four stars...reduced from a five due to the table-staff...and the fact that the name is "Frisco," which no self-respecting native San Franciscan could ever approve of.
Yep, it's loud in there. Â Especially if you go when they're doing live music. Â There was a guy on the guitar when I was there (4/6/2013). Â He was actually really good. Â If you're looking to have a conversation though during the live music you're going to be yelling. Â
Our waiter was pretty cool. Â Seemed like a genuine good guy. Â Don't remember his name but he was a younger guy with a shaved head. Â
I had the crab cake sandwich which I really enjoyed. Â I even ordered a second one. I'm a sucker for crab though. Â Fries were good too. Â I wouldn't hesitate to go again.
What a great place! Impromptu date night took us here after happy hour at Union Jack's, and I'm glad it did. The place was packed, and I can see why. They display the beer menu on two huge screens over the bar (featuring the alcohol % and not the price, smart), and the overall feel is very modern. The menu reflects this modern feel; bf said his shrimp fajita was "ok" and knows he could've picked something better. I look forward to going back here with a larger group. Service was great, too!!
Review Source:Frisco has an extensive list of beers and really good bar food. Ideal place to catch a game since there are a ton of television screens. Not an ideal place to take a date out on, but definitely a good place for a group of friends to relax and have a beer. Parking could be troublesome, so if you can't find parking during weekend nights, you can go across the street and park.
Review Source:Love love love love LOVE Frisco!!! I can't say enough good things about this place. As a beer geek and a foodie, it doesn't get much better. Granted, they've gone through a few chefs, but I think Adam (the owner) has it nailed down. The risotto cakes and latkes are always a good starter, and for entrees, I usually rotate between the spicy steak sammich, the pale ale corn dogs, or the buffalo burger. Food specials are good as well; I had an ale-cheddar soup recently that was particularly memorable.
I'm sure you're asking "but what about the beer??" Well, this place has FIFTY taps, and they rotate on a regular basis. The beer menu is posted on two huge flatscreens, but if you can't see them from where you're sitting, just pull up <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbeer.friscogrille.com&s=a88fc2072cfc128a281b0b1b8e070fc257717cebbc92268560e4087bf490192c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://beer.friscogrille…</a> on your smartphone for the current list! They've recently started brewing their own beer in the front room under the name of Push Brewing, and I haven't had a bad beer from them yet. Keith and Brian are walking encyclopedias of beer knowledge, and all the bartenders have been VERY patient with my indecisiveness when I go in there. :P
Speaking of beer, every Wednesday is Pint Night, which is where they feature a particular brewer, and if you order a beer from that brewer (say, Dogfish Head), you get to keep the glassware. The last Pint Night I went to was actually when they released their growlers for Push Brewing, so I didn't get a glass, but a growler. :D
Oh, and another bonus for me? The owner is a club motorcycle racer, so as a rider myself, I *have* to give him my hard-earned cash. Beer, food, and bikes...it's a little slice of heaven for me about 5 minutes from my front door. :)
Great beer selection for those of us who can't drink a beer unless it's exotic and full of flavor. They display all of their beers on a screen when you walk in which helps when deciding, a lot easier than trying to locate a menu. The taps are always changing so there is something new to try on every visit.
The food is eclectic but really good. I had the Pad Thai and the portion was beyond generous. There was just enough spice in it and the vegtables were cooked perfectly. My fiance had a chicken sandwhich which was huge and delicious. The fries were only decent but who goes out for the fries? The guac is also super fresh.
Ill be back soon
I like the place. Â which i was surprised by b/c when driving up there is NOTHING that would make me think I would like it. Â Its in a random strip mall with a bit of a parking situation. Â When you walk in, its very drafty, a bit too open making it feel like you are kind of in a renovated warehouse. Â But the beer...the beer selection is absolutely no joke. Â taps as far as the eye can see....AND WITHOUT THE PRETENTIOUSNESS that can come with such a place. Â the bartenders know their beer. Â Tell them what you are familiar with drinking and they will suggest to you something new and different to try out. Â They even had mead for goodness sake. Â Food, well i've pretty much stuck to 1 thing b/c its awesome. Â THE SPICY STEAK SAMMICH, too too good. Â sriracha-infused, creamy goat cheese and avocado's takes the heat out of the crazy place and into the yummy flavorful realm. Â This sandwich is magic.
Review Source:***** Beer list! It's hard to find a better selection. The list is only posted above the bar, however, and it's a huge place. Bonus: you can look at the list, including detailed descriptions, online -- so plan ahead or bring a smartphone.
**** Valet parking: it's about damn time they did something about this problem. In fact, I've avoided this place for years because it's teeth-grittingly impossible to find a legal spot to park within 1/4 mile of the place. Now they have free valet (which is never really "free" since you should tip the valet, but it's worth a few dollars to not have to endure that headache!)
*** Food: Their risotto cakes and tex-mex burritos are great. Queso dip is spicy and they'll bring you more chips if you ask. Got adventurous last time and did NOT like their Pad Thai (very questionable "chicken" pieces and way too much sauce.)
** Service: The place is laid out so strangely that it's hard to know whether you're supposed to order from a server or the bar (on our last outing, we did both.) You get to play server roulette throughout the evening, as you're never sure who will take your order and / or bring your food. A fair amount of forgetfulness and numerous mistakes, though they're pretty good about fixing them and they don't mind splitting checks a gazillion ways (a bonus if you came with a large group, which we often do.)
* Atmosphere: It's just way too loud. You can't hear the person next to you, whether you're in the little side room (blasting music) or the cavernous main space (echo chamber.) They have great live music, but you'd never know it unless you happened to use the restroom during a set. I stood around for a couple of songs last time, but by the time I was 5 yards away it got swallowed up in bar noise.
So, meet you in the middle. Definitely worth coming for a few beers on a slower night!
My first experience here wasn't the greatest since the server didn't seem to have much knowledge about any of the beers and they were out every other thing I ordered. Â But, since I'm a huge beer fan, I gave them a second (and third and forth...) shot and they have since always delivered. Â The service is great (at least if you sit at the bar) and the bartenders are always friendly and happy to give tastings. Â Good thing I don't live closer or my beer belly would be much larger! I agree with those who have posted that the food is nothing to write home about BUT, that really isn't the reason to come here in the first place!!
Review Source:First off, those who give this place 5 stars must have never eaten good food and those who give this place 1 star either got food poisoning, or hate beer.
That being said, I've dropped in a few times, and am always pleased with a such a large beer selection, probably Frisco's greatest quality. I'd give them 4 stars on this one alone. Why not 5? Well, unlike another local place with a great beer selection *coughs* Victoria *coughs*, Frisco lists no prices, sizes, or descriptions, so the I get to play beer roulette unless ordering something I've had before. More on this...
During my last visit, we squinted across the restaurant at the screen displaying current on tap offerings and finally asked our waitress if there was a printed list of the beers. I'm all for reducing paper consumption, but this wouldn't break the bank nor the planet. Our waitress told us no, but we could look it up on our phones if we wanted to. My two friends and I informed her that none of us has a phone with internet and sat there while her facial expression revealed her apparent judgment of our personal philosophies regarding phone choice.
The food is rather unexciting. I do wish there were more meatless options. We ordered the "Holy Trinity" (salsa, queso dip, and guacamole) and "Fire Grilled Wings." The trio of dips was fine, but underwhelming, especially the cheese dip. Next time, I'll go for the guacamole by itself. The wings weren't bad. They started off sweet and smoky, while the heat from the ancho chiles slowly crept up on me. I've also realized that I'm quite fond of grilled, rather than fried, wings; I have to want smoky flavor more than crispy texture. The accompanying "tequila lime blue cheese" had no taste of tequila and the lime was subtle at best.
I went for the buffalo burger with a side of fries. Like many pubs, a supposedly "medium" burger came out rather gray. It was average. On the plus side, the fries had a very boardwalk fries (think Thrashers, not Boardwalk Fries) taste and texture. Well done, there.
I'd recommend Frisco for grabbing a pint or two - sit at the bar if you're near-sighted and forgot your phone. Don't bother with the food.
My fiance loves this place for its many options of different beers and there "Beer Book Club" that he is doing. I am not a fan and will not come here on my own, than again I am not a beer drinker. The food is typical bar food, I could not find anything that I was blown away by on the menu. Parking is horrible every time I visit this place.
Review Source:For a place that prides themselves in Beer, Frisco's is an excellent choice! Our server, Bob, was an excellent host who was very knowledge in beer and did an outstanding job at making our first visit memorable. Our appetizer came out very quickly, even before our beer! On a side note, we hadn't ordered our beer yet since the list was so long and we had tough decisions to make. Bob made sure we got what beers we liked best by letting us try samples, which is a great plus! Our food was quick and delicious. My favorite part was their Chef delivered our food. This made the meal seem very personable. Nice touch! Â As a beer connoisseur and burger lover I will be back very soon!
Thanks Bob for a great experience, keep up the good work!
Alright, here's the deal...5 stars for beer list, 2.5 stars for food...
I'll start with the beer....the beer list is HUGE, so there's something for everyone and the menu is constantly rotating, so it's a beer lovers dream bar. Â
Unfortunately, I just wasn't impressed with the food at all...typically pub type food, but mediocre at that. Â There are too many pubs in this area with good food for that to even be an issue. Â For example, my daughter ordered the kids chicken tenders which came out dark brown and extremely crunchy, hardly any chicken at all and they didn't even take it off the bill....annoying! Â
If you're going for a beer and to watch the games and could care less about the food, you'll enjoy yourself. Â If you would like a decent meal with a great beer selection, go elsewhere.
Came here on a Thursday night with some homies. The parking lot was full, but I found a spot in a nearby plaza.
The chorizo queso dip was flavorful, but a little oily. Tuna poke was decent, though the fish didn't taste too fresh. Sante Fe burger tasted like a regular burger; we didn't taste any Santa Fe-esque seasonings. It was cooked well and the fries were good. My mahi fillet was subpar. The fish was overcooked and I tried to mask the rubbery taste with large forkfuls of polenta.
Service was quick and friendly. There was a good selection of beers. I'd probably come back for drinks and the appetizers, not the entrees.
I would love to love this place. The beer selection and the atmosphere are both excellent, and they keep me coming back. But the food is not very good.
For drinks and snacks, this place is perfect. They do the simple stuff well. But I've tried dinner there several times and I leave disappointed every time. Tonight I got the Mahi entree. The fish was rubbery and overcooked, the spinach was a pile of mush, and the polenta was way too dry.
My favorite happy hour and beer spot in Columbia. Â No Budweiser or other crummy beers here. Â Belgian IPAs and other greats with full sized beer menus displayed on monitors high above the bar which display the name of the beer and the alcohol content.
The size of this place is pretty substantial and can fit large groups. Â The staff are very friendly and they're generous with letting you try the beers before purchasing. Â They're also fairly knowledgable and provide good recommendations when asked. Â The food is tasty - try the queso-chorizo dip. Â Man, that stuff is not the best for you but it's oh so good.
Got takeout once with my coworker. She got the burrito and I got the fish tacos because you can never go wrong with fish tacos... Or so I thought. The fish tacos had this weird mango salsa which just seemed like the flavors were all clashing with one another and whoever made it was just trying a little too hard. It was sour and just weird. And definitely overpriced for disgusting food. My coworker threw up after her burrito. She actually used to be a waitress there a while back and she said the food used to be good but I guess it went downhill.
The only reason it got two stars instead of one is because I went with coworkers for drinks and their beer selection was huge and the waiter was very nice and let me try a bunch before picking which one I wanted.
Despite the reviews, the service was amazing. Â We were seated immediately and got our drinks and wing appetizer immediately. Â The sauce on the wings was really, really good. Â The drumettes were a bit fatty. Â Before we finished our appetizer, our order arrived. Â Definitely bar type food, but the meals were very good.
The chicken burritos was very good. Â The beef burritos was also good. I had the flank steak sandwich--awesome!! It was on a roll with avocado and goat cheese--great combination of ingredients! Â The onion rings were also perfect.
Overall a good place, lots of happy customers, high energy and many, many TVs to watch sports.
Came in for lunch and had the Allagash White beer and the pastrami sandwich. This was truly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The only down side was the fries. They were greasy and soggy. The server replaced them but the new ones were the same.
Rachel was the bartender and was friendly and let me sample a couple beers before choosing one. Will come back for the service, beer, and food.
Hung out here before a show at Merriweather Post Pavilion it was a good "home base." Â They were happy to give us a big table for a group of 6-8 even though only 2 of us were there for the first 45 minutes and our group grew and shrunk through out the afternoon.
Our server Bob was a delight. Â My beer was never empty. Â They have a huge selection of draft beers and a list so long of bottles that they encourage you to look at it on your smart phone (how green!!).
It is big and open and the only sad thing was they were not going to start brewing their own beer until the day after we left. Â If I'm ever in the area again for a show I'd go back for sure.
Bar food menu . . . typical and a few things you don't always see such as corn dogs and fish tacos. Â The fries were good.
They have a wall of tv's behind the bar and taps with about 8 different things going on - sports, sports and more sports.
