This is a place in New Orleans and particularly in the Carrollton area for quality and tasty hamburgers. On our recent visit we could not resist staying with the burgers. Many chicken selections will have to be tried on another visit.
Service is still very attentive and nice. Jennifer is another person who takes care of the drink and food orders.
Updating this review for I wrote about how nice it is to dine in the open air at G B's and I thought that was it. Did see a small bar inside and a few tables near the bar. Had no idea the place opened up into another large dining area.
So if anyone is like me and did not know about the inside, large, very air conditioned dining room you do now. That is what I get for not checking the whole place out.
Ok I have given this place a few tries. It is disappointing, to put it mildly.
For some reason, people really like to bring their kids here to run around and screech on the patio. Dont come here if you want a relaxing drink with friends. Come here if you want to wait forever for your food while getting eaten by mosquitos and having to watch your mouth so the snotty uptown mother doesn't give you a dirty look.
The service has always been mediocre. You'll sit and wait forever for anything. The food is OK. Just OK. There is nothing on this menu that you need to go out of your way and come here to eat.
It's your typical neighborhood grill/bar combo with burgers, steaks, salads, and sandwiches. The staff is friendly and the patio's nice to sit at when the weather agrees. My friend ordered the filet - which was substantially more pricey at $30 than anything else on the menu - but she seemed to enjoy it. I got the fried chicken salad - two pieces of fried chicken breast on top of a house salad and it was exactly what I expected. Nothing too exciting, but nothing horrible either.
Review Source:I LOVE GB's! I lived in New Orleans for a year and this was the best little spot to go to any time during the week. The burgers are amazing and if you get it with the loaded baked potato on the side, it's even better! I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and I was never disappointed. Â Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere and great service. You get really lucky if Gerald bakes one of his awesome cakes as well. They are always delicious, I don't know why he doesn't open a bakery. The outdoor patio is perfect during any weather because it's covered and during the cold days they have outdoor heaters and ceiling fans are on during the summer. It's a comfortable place to go hang out after work or to grab an easy dinner with a group of friends.
Review Source:This isn't a bad place. Â They serve salads, burgers and cheese fries. Â It's pretty much a few steps up from bar food, but that's not a bad thing. Â The staff is very efficient and attentive. Â When I went, I got a burger. Â It wasn't anything overly special, but I liked it. Â This would be a good place to come before you head out for a night out, as the place is right next to a bar (and also HAS a bar) and the food is well priced.
Review Source:We stopped in for dinner on impulse last week. Â The nice weather made their patio tables look like a great idea. Â She had a blackened chicken salad and enjoyed it. Â I had a tuna burger that was only ok.
The server did a fine job and things moved slowly but not painfully so.
The problem was that the patio is apparently a very popular spot for smokers and the reek of smoke really pretty much guarantees we'll never go back.
GB's is right behind Madigan's Bar and the menu here is some basic bar type food with a nice red meat focus. Â The main draw is that they USUALLY offer the best burger in the Carrollton area and some decent steaks. Â Most of the time I've had the burger here it has been very good but there have been a few times that it was off for whatever reasons. Â I've also had some very bad service in here occasionally but usually it has been decent. Â
This is just a NOLA neighborhood bar type atmosphere that is usually not too crowded and not at all trendy so you can actually enjoy eating your food (with the added bonus of a patio). Â I would say that the burger is far better here (and better priced) than the other nearby options of Tru Burger or Cowbell.
My friends and I had heard great things about this place so we decided to give it a try. We got drinks quickly but it took about 30+ minutes for us to receive our appetizers (2 orders of cheese fries)...even though we were the ONLY people eating at GB's. After another 30 minutes, we got our burgers... they were all overcooked (we all ordered our burgers medium or med rare) yet all of them were WELL done... the meat was flakey and gross because it was so well done. I couldn't eat more than a third of my 6oz. burger. It took another 30+ minutes to bring the check.....don't recommend this place from my experience.
Review Source:This is a nice little underated spot with a good atmosphere and good food.
I have been here two times total, and both times I've had a great time.
I've sat in both the patio and at the bar, and both times the service was great. The employees are engaging, attentive, but not overly-so. Which is important to me when I want to enjoy the good company of a friend.
Patios, courtyards and balconies are kind of my thing. I like to sit outside to eat/ drink if at all possible. GB's patio doesn't exactly have a fantastic view, but it is still a comfortable atmosphere.
The wine list is limited, but acceptable. Pretty good wines at a pretty good price.
If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I'm a girl that loves her red meat. The first time I went here, I got a ribeye that I enjoyed very much.
This time, I got a burger cooked perfectly to medium rare with blue cheese crumbles and sauteed onions and I was in burger heaven. The meat to bun ratio is nearly perfect.
I may be a burger whore, but I'm also a burger snob, and this burger gets my burger snob seal of approval.
Not gonna say it's the best I've ever had. But it most definitely hits all the right spots.
What miserable treatment we received here last night. Our waitress took our orders and brought us our drink (all iced teas and waters) as soon as we were seated, but then we did not see an employee of the establishment for another 45 minutes. When we did finally see someone, it was simply to bring me my salad. I.e. a place of iceberg lettuce and cherry tomato with a little cup of dressing. This wasn't a gourmet chef salad or anything. someone dumped some lettuce out of a bag onto a plate. It should not have taken 45 minutes.
At very least another quarter of an hour passed before we received the rest of our meal. Everyone's food was cold. Some was downright ice cold. when we mentioned to the manager that our food was cold, he blatantly retorted, "no, it isn't." This seemed rude, yet we responded with an attitude that we wanted them to have a chance to make it up to us. Well, how did he make it up to us? He offered a round of drinks to the table that was drinking nothing but iced tea and water.
As we were finishing our cold burgers our waitress finally reappeared (for the first time since she took our orders well over an hour prior) to ask how everything was going, not having even noticed the confrontation between us and the manager. We responded that things were not going well causing her to immediately run off to the manager. She came back with quite the attitude, "informing" us that we rejected the manager's offer for drinks.
Great service! Great drinks! Great food! Â I have been going here for at least 12 years and have NEVER been sick. Gerald and Chris are wonderful and take care of you! Â Whether you're watching the game or catching up with friends you be glad you choose this spot. Â Patio is wonderful.
Review Source:I love this place. We go often, when we want to chill outside, and get great burgers and beer. Their burgers are always fantastic, and you can add really great toppings, like bleu cheese crumbles. Yum. The patio is cool in the summer, and they have heaters when it's cool. The service is outstanding, too.
Review Source:Underrated and lost among the other Carrollton/Riverbend restaurants, GB's is a good option if you want some decent burgers and bar food on the cheap. My boyfriend and I frequent this place if we can't think of anywhere else to go. Obviously it's no Port of Call or Lakeview Harbor, but I think their burgers would beat Dough Bowl's (and I can't really think of any better burger places in the area). Oh, and  unlike previous reviews, I did not get sick, I have gone since being a student, and I've never gone drunk.
The service is pretty slow, but the place always has a decent crowd of people when I go. I would recommend starting with their spinach and artichoke dip, which is pretty delicious. You can get a big 6 oz. burger cooked the way you like it with a side (baked potato - yum!, fries, broccoli, onion rings) for $7. Cheese is an extra 50 cents on the burger. The baked potato only comes with chives and butter, but you can add cheese and real bacon for a little more. The burgers are always cooked exactly how we order (medium well for me, medium rare for the boyfriend), and they are juicy with great flavor. They always offer homemade cake, and we finally tried it last night - chocolate "sin" cake for $5 was pretty tasty, moist and fluffy and topped with a truffle.
Overall, if you're looking for a burger that's not fast food around the Riverbend or University area, and you'd prefer not to be seen around The Boot, this is a good option.
A great little Nawlin's neighborhood treat. Â Best Burgers Uptown served on a comfortable patio by a great wait staff. Â The kitchen keeps it simple with high quality beef (burgers & steaks) at center stage. My wife and I have eaten here at least twice a month for ten years and have never gotten sick or heard of anyone getting sick as claimed in other reviews which also claim that the place is expensive when it obviously is not. Â Also the drunk student problem was eliminated several years ago. Â It is very much a family place.
