We just had dinner there and it was very good!! Â We had purchased a certificate from http://Restaurant.com and we splurged! Â We started with the Chef's Mussels and the Oakwood smoked salmon...both amazing! Â Then we both had a salad: Â The Caprese style salad and the Classic Caesar. Â The buffalo mozzarella is house made and it is to die for!! Â Very delicious! Â Our entrees were the Lamb and the Filet. Â The lamb and filet were both overcooked a bit (reason for the 4 stars). Â Not to the point we needed to complain, but I cannot see giving 5 stars unless I am BLOWN away. Â We finished with the creme brulee and it was really good. Â I've never seen mandarin oranges served on it though. Â (seems a bit cheap--I would prefer berries such as raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries). Â We sat upstairs and the bartender was our server and she was very good. Â We will be going back in the spring to sit outside on the very nice patio. Â We are interested in trying a buffalo burger. Â Must go again on a Monday for half priced manhattan's made with Woodford for only $3.50!!!
Review Source:Accommodating for our crowd and great drink specials on Mondays.
My date sent back his burger (that was overcooked) and promptly received what he asked for as well as a discount to his drinks.
The upstairs bartender was polite and quick for the groups' size and all of the food was to temperature as served. Â I loved the sweet potato fries but they were a little thin and they didn't pair well with the sauces they were served with.
The restaurant has dark interior with a warm feel. Â Bathrooms are clean the host was professional.
I tried Gary's on a whim, knowing full well the cost, and I found myself satisfied and eager to try it again. The upstairs bar would be a fantastic spot for a quiet evening, maybe too quiet for a first date, but a great second-date spot with the dark decor and ensuing intimacy. I opened with the Oysters Rockefeller, despite my distaste for hollandaise and found it delicious, far better than I expected for Oysters in a midwest city. As for the entree, I found my filet delicious, perfectly seared to medium-rare, but still found myself jealous of the Potato-encrusted grouper and Scallops that were in view. Would eat the same dinner again, but would love to try new things and that's what sells a great restaurant.
