There is not a lot to say about this place. The root beer (even diet) is pretty good, and nice that you can get it in half-gallons and gallons to go if you are into that sort of thing. The hot dogs I'm pretty sure are straight-up Oscar Mayer, although I was craving a hot dog (which is how we ended up here) and it totally hit the spot. At $1.45 it's hard to complain. There are "Spanish" (Coney) dogs, and a few other varieties including kraut. If you aren't into dogs they also have pork tenderloin, chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, corn dogs...no burgers to the dismay of my significant other.  Everything is really cheap, food was hot except our fries, and they were packed. Service was okay. No indoor seating,  this is a drive-in so be prepared. Most annoying were other patrons who didn't want to wait their turn for service and woukd lay on their horn as soon as they pulled up. You definitely get what you pay for, but an experience nonetheless.

Gene's is a typical old-style drive-in establishment. Considering I went on opening day, I won't knock down for a long wait for initial service. Once I was seen, the food came fairly quick. Hot dogs were semi warm and had ingredients from someone else's order on mine, but they were still ok. Gene's is a good place to go, they just need to refine a little.

Been going to Genes every summer for years and know spring is here when they open!  The food is always good and the root beer is awesome!  I. Was dissapointed however last year when they stopped giving refills on root beer. When I saw they were open this spring I excitedly turned in for my first coney dog and root beer of the season. The girl took my order then ask if I was paying with cash. I always use a debit card and knew their limit was $3 in order to use it. I told her "no" but I had my card.  She refused my order and said you now have to spend $10 or more to use a debit card there!!!  Guess I'll not be going back...wonder how many other people, like me are being turned away every day...

How can u go wrong with gene's root beer stand? This is an
anderson specialty you don't want to miss out on!  It has gotten a little pricey lately though, but I suppose they are just trying to keep up with everybody else.

Gene's is an absolute Anderson staple.  They are only open during the warm seasons, but you definitely have to check them out.  The coney dogs with cheese are amazing.  They also have fast service and delicious root beer.

Great vanilla based root beer, Spanish sauce on hot dog and root beer reminiscent of A&W. Slaw has horse radish, and our onion rings over cooked. Being born in a more southern state I am used to eating slaw on a hot dog but as far as I am concerned I will pass on the horseradish.
Very attentive curb service every time I have been over the past 10 years. They do the old fashioned "hang the try on the window" service so be ready for that.

There are very few places that don't change over time.  The sad thing is that many of the restaurants that change never needed to.  They already had it right.  Gene's is one of those that knows they have it right and they leave it that way, for the most part.  There is no healthy food at Gene's, so don't go there looking for tofu.  If you want the old drive in comfort food, that isn't particularly good for you, then go to Gene's.  I love their tenderloins, fish sands, and corn dogs.  The root beer is awesome and always has been.

The root beer is fantastic!  The food is good, for fast food fare, but it is their home-made root beer that makes it worth the stop.  And for a girl from San Diego where drive-in restaurants are a thing of the past, to be able to go to a real drive-in and have a car hop come up and take your order (no speaker boxes) and bring your food to you on a tray that hooks onto your window--what a blast from the past!  The fact that it was my own cousin who was the car hop just enhanced the experience.

I had found out from my cousin that his daughter, who I had last seen Xmas 1971, worked Friday nights at this drive-in, so I decided to go here and do a surprise introduction.  I didn't think she'd remember me but to my surprise, she did!  She remembered that Xmas, which was memorable to me because I drove to Michigan from San Diego in my then only two year old '69 Plymouth Barracuda (which I still own!) and stopped by my uncle's in Anderson to pull a surprise visit to the family and my parents on Xmas eve.  They didn't know I was coming home (last minute decision).  She remembered thinking I was a hippie because I was wearing jeans (forbidden to them at a family gathering) and leather boots.  That was sort of my Janis Joplin era.  We didn't have much time to visit because the place was hoppin' (pun intended!) and she had to keep busy but it was nice to see her anyway.   Man, it's been a  long time since I ate in my car!
