My fiance and I live right down the street, and have stopped into Grandview Tavern many times since its rebranding.
FOOD: They have all of the basics, and then some. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know my love for all things that involve pretzel buns, so that's awesome that they have those here. Instead of being greasy and butterized like some other nearby pub type spots, their food tastes totally fresh and crisp all of the time. I tend to get the chili bowl, which is delicious. And their side salad is much more than a side salad - it actually comes with a lot of mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, etc. More than your usual plate of lettuce and cucumbers.
DRINKS: They have a lot of good beers on tap for decent prices, Â but will also make you anything you want because they have a full bar.
SERVICE: This place really wins here. Every time I've been, the service has been wonderful. Spot on, easy to deal with, and very helpful. Last time we were in, we were served by Dave, who was enjoyable and nice to be around.
OVERALL:
Good food, good drinks, great service. A wonderful neighborhood spot.
A lot of other people have left stellar reviews (for good reason) and I suggest you go read them. The gist is this: This place is great.
Good beers, decently made cocktails, a great vibe, a wonderful jukebox and bartenders that are pretty damn nice, especially when you've already been drinking for approx. three hours.
Haven't tried the food though. Next time....next time....
I hate to be the one to rain on the parade....We just weren't all blown away like everyone else here seems to be. Â To each their own, huh?
We stopped in on a Thursday night, not realizing there was trivia going on. Â Eh, such a drag, loud and not very relaxing. Â We almost walked out but didn't feel like playing the "well where else should we go" game. Â We didn't realize the kitchen closes up at 10 so we just made it under the wire to get some food. Â He had some kind of grilled chicken sandwich which he said was ok, me the burger. Â It was eh. Â I didn't find it worth all the raves.
(Now I realize this little rant isn't specifically about Grandview, but after having the burger here, I just can't take it anymore. Â What is with charging $10+ for burgers around town?! Â What's worse is I have yet to come across one worth that price. Â Anywhere. Â I mean, it's just freakin' plain ol' ground beef fried up on a flattop and a bun, folks. Â It's just silly. Â I know burgers are all the rage lately, but c'mon. Â Whoever started this $10+ burger trend should be strung up.)
It's a small place, high ceilings. Â It was a decent place, though nothing we've had the desire to go running back to. Â I mean, we may stop in again, but unfortunately it's not near the top of our list. Â The bartender was nice and pleasant. Â
I don't know if it was because it was trivia night or not (though by reading the other reviews, I sense not), but everyone seemed to know everyone else here. Â Don't get me wrong, that's great, but when we walked in, it felt a little cliquish, like we were sore thumbs which made us feel a tad uncomfortable, like we inadvertently crashed someone's living room.
Maybe when it warms up we'll try the patio, dunno. Â Good location, crappy parking situation. Â
Sorry to be Debbie Downer.
