This is the 'Cadillac' of bread stores as far as I am concerned.
The bread here is delicious, the kind of bread you might expect if Grandmother made it way back in the old days....it tastes homemade. Â Great samples when you come in the door.
Had a sandwich and it was excellent, could have had one-half a sandwich for it was so filling, lots of meat, cheese, and the bread is so dense it fills one up.
Purchased Honey Wheat bread and a loaf of their Cinnamon/Pecan breakfast bread -- my house guests were in LOVE, it is so delicious!
Happy they are here in Denver.
This place truly deserves more exposure for its quality products that it puts out. The breads are good and made fresh daily and they allow you to sample them as well. But what really puts this place over the top are their sandwiches. They're so fresh and delicious. Hits the spot when your craving something with more substance and sustenance for your body. It might run you a little steep on the wallet but I think your paying for what you get. It's right by king soopers, so next time you're considering buying one of those ready-made sandwiches from there, take a short walk over to Great Harvest.
Review Source:I have only made one visit to the Great Harvest to buy some Honey Wheat bread. But I will be back. Â Â I went in after work and was greeted with lots of samples. Â I really want to try the sandwiches after reading the reviews. Â I give them 5 stars because their bread is healthy and delicous. Â 5 ingredients in their whole grain breads. Â They are all ingredients you can find in your pantry. Â Imagine that. Â If you look at most bread in the grocery stores (even the so called healthy ones) the ingredient list is like a frankenstein of things I've never heard of and it's paragraphs long. Â They even tell you on their website where their wheat comes from. Â Stop by if you want some good homemade bread without pulling out the bread machine.
Review Source:I second Demitri's review...been drifting in and out over the 5 or so years, but especially now that they're about 2 miles from where I live. Â If you enter and do not immediately have a choice in mind, you're greeted with a sunny Hello, and a "Would you like to try a slice of our bread today?" Â On a bad day, say, if you show up 30 mins before closing, or something, they may only have 2 or 3 types available. Â Any other time, you're looking at choosing from 6-7 options...all thickly laden with whole grains, some with veggies worked in, others with fruit...and offered to you with fresh butter, and darkened, "good" honey. Â For free.
It's a paradise. Â If you're not diabetic. Â (And if you are, screw it, sometimes you just gotta take a jump off that cliff and live some, anyways -- life's too short to never have a great thick slice of bread). Â I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's trying to drop some poundage -- because carbos are the devil's fat magnet. Â (They are.)
Outside of those subgroups, I say enjoy to your heart's content. Â The staff is always friendly, but sometimes busy, especially Sat and Sun mornings -- probably to be expected. Â Loaf prices run anywhere from about $6 to $10 -- yes, this is not your King Soopers Generic White Bad-For-You Bread -- it's pretty gourmet, and it's got the price to go with it. Â But if you don't eat a *lot* of bread...this is probably a great place to go splurge now and then. Â If only to offset the costs of the free slices they give away and keep them in business. :D Â (They also sell various toppings and, I think, cookbooks here).
So you know the cracked out dog in the Beggin' Strips commercial?
That's how I am when it comes to bread and basically any kind of carb that doesn't benefit me in any way possible. That being said, I try to avoid places like Great Harvest because nothing good can come out of it. But when my friend wanted to stop by here, I felt obligated to go in and support the Great Harvest you know?
I didn't know what I loved more, the employees or the bread. Everyone here is so friendly and they have a myriad of samples and they actually take the time to tell you about the bread and the flavors. After trying every sample out there (addicted to carbs, told you!!), I called it quits and perused from there on.
And then I saw it.
A creepy baby picture.
I used to love the Anne Geddes photos and this one was kinda like it.....except it was a baby with a bunch of bread rolls sitting in front of him (I think him?) and it was just straight up creepy. I was afraid the baby and the rolls was going to haunt my dreams that night but thankfully that didn't happen. Sorry Great Harvest, that's the only bad thing I got to say about you!
I love this franchise. Â Great bread smells when you walk in, invites to try THICK slabs of their goodies, smiles all around.
This one had muffins, cookies, granola, trail mix, and about 12 varieties of bread on a given day. Â
I ended up just getting some peanut butter and pumpkin spice honey they were selling. Â I wish that there was an option to buy HALF a loaf..but alas, I know the chances of someone else wanting that EXACT bread in half of loaf is slim...so I understand their business decision.
I'm also surprised this location didn't have more of muffin selection than other ones I've been too or more than 2 cookie flavors. Â
This location does have a fantastic menu of sandwiches to choose from though!
Score qualification: 4 stars for a sandwich place is a huge rating for a sandwich snob like me! I'd probably give them another half-star if Yelp would let me.
I love Great Harvest and think they make some of the best sandwiches in Denver. I ate at the Great Harvest in Boulder a bunch when I lived there, but this one makes better sandwiches. This is really simple:
1. They use VERY good quality sandwich meats and cheese. Comparable to the cold cuts you can get sliced fresh at Whole Foods.
2. The sandwiches are always constructed with care and the meats are used generously.
3. The breads are delicious, fresh, and moist. This is critical for a great sandwich. While Great Harvest's breads aren't traditional sandwich breads like I grew up with at NYC delicatessens, they are unique in character, full of flavor, and really delicious. Maybe even a bit - GASP - healthy.
4.The environment is very friendly. It's always a pleasure to walk into the place.
The only reason I can't bring myself to give them (or any Denver sandwich shop) 5-stars is only that I grew up eating from the best delis in New York and know just how great a sandwich can be. Great Harvest doesn't quite reach those heights, but is about as good as it gets in Denver.
Too lazy to brave the hour-long waits at our usual brunch spots (and frankly, too lazy to get dressed), my friend and I stopped in this morning to get a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll for breakfast.
I was wary about the cinnamon rolls- they were wrapped in plastic, meaning they weren't made that day- but one bite and I was hooked. They're gooey, and chewy, and made from whole wheat dough so you don't feel like you're going to die if you eat the entire thing. Perfect sugar/cinnamon/dough proportions.
I also tried the Cherry Apple Berry bread, and while it was delicious, the prices at this Great Harvest are a little outrageous- $7.50 for a loaf? Yow, guys. Plus, I'm not crazy about the fact that they only use whole wheat flour. Great Harvest bakeries can do some magic things with white flour (fluffy challah, chewy Cinnamon Chip) that I wish this bakery would try.
But overall, I'm delighted that they're in business, and spent a lovely half an hour eating a cinnamon roll, drinking coffee, and watching people on the bench outside of their door.
Who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked bread? Â And this bread is good! Â The loaves are freakin heavy! Â The first time I bought a loaf, I commented on how heavy it was. Â The lady behind the counter explained about the type of ingredients they use versus what you can get next door at King Soopers. Â Once you get the lowdown, you will never want to buy a loaf from the grocery store again. Â I think the main ingredient they use is love :)
They have several different loaves, and you can sample them with fresh jelly or butter. Â The staff is great, very nice people. Â They take pride in what they do, as they should. Â The bread is a bit expensive, but once you try it, you'll be hooked. Â Go early, I have been here a few times when they only have 2 loaves to choose from.
I absolutely love Great Harvest! Â I was introduced to Great Harvest when I was in college and don't think I've been since I graduated 9 years ago. Â I wanted to grab a good loaf of bread to bring to a dinner party and remembered Great Harvest. Â We stopped in and the smell brought be back. Â I forgot that they give samples and the sampel is huge! Â I had a slice of the cinanamon and it was delicious. Â I bought the honey whole wheat and everyone enjoyed it at dinner! Â I will definitely be back soon!
Review Source:about $7.00 for a loaf sounds a little crazy but its made with love and all the ingredients in a cupboard. It's right next to King Sooper. The bread is dense and flavor packed. Right when you step in they have samples w. delicious fatty butter. I've never been to another bread company but this place still deserves 5 stars. It reminds me of the time when my mom's nun friend would come to our house and bake things like cinnamon buns, cookies, cakes...i didn't get this chubby alone :) Sounds bizarre but you haven't met my mother. But the sandwiches are not worth the price. They use low quality meat but I'm reviewing the bread ...
Review Source:I can not say enough beautiful things about this place. They bake the bread that I would bake if I was brave enough to attempt it. Sometimes when I am poor, I feel like stopping in to get samples so I can eat something delicious that didn't cost 98 cents a serving to make at home. But then I think about how guilty I would feel if I pigged out on samples and then bought nothing. So instead, I go into King Soopers next door and buy some cheap ramen...
They have a dizzying array of samples to try. And the number of breads you can try is unlimited. I usually go for a yummy standby, like honey whole wheat, and then try a unique or seasonal flavor. The last time I went in, it was near St Patrick's day and they had a Guinness bread with big hunks of cheese. Oooh, that was good. I haven't been back since then, I've been too poor. *Sigh*
I love their huge selection of whole wheat and multigrain breads, and that you can get a loaf whole or sliced. It makes the most amazing sandwich bread.
I am also a big fan of the fact that they serve Honeyville products, as I will soon be a resident of Durango and have always loved their honey. They also have lots of other goodies, like really good cookies and sandwiches that I bet are divine but haven't had the pleasure of sampling yet. One day soon...before I move.
This store is one of my vices. I am always tempted to spend so much. But their awesome selection, quality breads, and friendly and energetic staff will keep me coming back time and time again.
I love this place. The bread is amazing, the sandwiches are great, the people are very friendly, and ...the smell when you walk in the door..there may be nothing better.
Honey Whole Wheat is my absolute favorite bread, with a little butter and honey. Take a slice, take a loaf..either way you will be happy.
One thing, the sandwiches, while worth the money (they are huge) get a bit sogey if left in their wrapping too long, so be sure to eat immediately...
Cheers to you, GH!
Best cold cut sandwich ever ! Totally a  "Dagwood sandwich (referring to the old Sunday comic Dagwood and Blondie) The bread does help seal the deal. I usually go with the honey wheat (a classic). Although I did try the decadent Guinness Gouda cheese bread and was impressed.
The turkey / ham / swiss / provolone / sprouts / lettuce / tomato / mustard / extra mayo is my norm. High quality produce is a staple with these guys. They do only have 3 - 4 meats and 3 -4 cheeses, but they make up for that with a whole slew of incredible bread types.
The staff is amazing. I wounder where they get these people. I look forward to the conversations that I have with these warm outgoing folks. Great banter. Â No offense to Subway but some of their employees are just weirdos !
PS- The whole sandwich is the best value. Though you may want to save the other half for later, being as big as it is.
Sara Lee Wheat Bread can no longer make the cut for my breads and grains portion of my daily diet. Ever since I found Great Harvest and Bread Co I have been coming nonstop every week to refuel on my carbs. There's nothing like organic whole wheat bread straight out of the oven. It's best if you can come in the morning to savor the warmth and freshness. If that wasn't enough, can you believe that they give you samples. And these aren't Target samples that you can't even taste, these are tangible bits that convince you into buying everything they have in stock. My personal favorite has to be the Cranberry Orange bread since it gives it a sweet twist. There is absolutely nothing negative that can be said.
Review Source:Great Harvest makes allsorts of delicious fresh breads. Â But, be advised, they do not make White Bread!! Thank God! Â Who needs over-processed under-flavored bread? Â Their breads feature all sorts of grains and nuts and seeds as well as fruits and vegetables. Â They have a selection of breads everyday with a few special ones on certain days. Â
Do not miss out on their cinnamon rolls, they are so good and not too sweet. Â You can really taste the whole grain dough and they are rolled up with generous brown sugar filling. (No icing needed). Â
I was not aware that they offered sandwiches but my husband informedme that they were huge and delicious. Â I was especially surprised he had tried them at all because he leans to the whiter breads. Â I tried their sandwiches for the first time today and they are so amazing, they actually taste like a fresh homemade sandwich. Â No crazy sauces or spreads needed. Â They have a small selection of meats, but they do also offer hummus. Â They have fresh healthy ingredients to put on your sandwich. Â I had sprouts, carrots, onions and tomatoe. Â They are very filling and not that expensive at all. Â
Check them out for a sandwich or perhaps for some bread to take home.
