So I really only come here to drink... but this time is one of the rare times I also ordered food. Went with the buffalo chicken sandwich, added bacon and spicy ranch. Was a pretty decent meal. Wish they would make the buffalo chicken saucier.
Waitress was nice and the service was good as usual. Outdoor seating is also always a plus for nice days out.
It's a SPORTS BAR, so if you go during any game, or after many of our community's many team games, expect that there cannot be enough seating. Â They cannot put tables on top of one another, nor can they knock down walls to expand the restaurant indefinently. Â It is outrageous that people are giving bad reviews on either of these criteria. Â It is a great sports bar, a fun place to drink, I like the TV's at the booths and the food is better-than-average sports bar food. Â They aren't advertising anything else, and if that's what you want, you should go elsewhere instead of being negative about you own bad decision making.
Review Source:The food tastes like it's out of a can or from a freezer. Â The next door Harris Teeter grocery store hot bar has much better food. Â The sandwiches and pizzas are worst than average; the soups are unedible. Â Every nearby place is better in every category and price point. Â They do however have lots of TVs! Â Hopefully, Turtle will go out of business soon so someone else can put a decent restaurant in this location.
Review Source:What on earth are all of you ordering?
Scrolling through some of the negative reviews, I observe that some of you order fish dishes. This is an amazing sports bar, with HD televisions at every booth. Don't get fish broski! The only thing you should order are sandwiches, salads, or burgers. If you want a gourmet meal with your lame boyfriend, then head over to DC because Olney isn't known for fine dining.
I read some complaints that there is no veggie burger; while that is true, might I recommend the mushroom and swiss burger? I had the chicken caesar salad back when I ate meat, and it was fantastic. The burgers are very good as well.
Go Redskins!
I go here pretty often when I'm home from school. Â But this is mainly because it is the only sports bar in town. Â They have no competition at all. Â My rating of 3 is from thinking this place of being the average sports bar. Â There really is nothing special about it but nothing too bad about it either. Â They have okay food and okay specials. Â I do have a few friends that work here too, so its hard not to be bias. Â If they didn't work here, my rating could be a 2 instead.
Review Source:I was actually fairly pleasantly surprised with the experience I had at Greene Turtle yesterday evening. Nothing mind blowing, I think I actually just went in so bummed about the going to the Greene Turtle for dinner that anything was an improvement.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and some buffalo chicken cheese dip. The dip was actually really good I would order when going back. The pork was dry, had to add some ketchup and the fries were really good. If you happen to pop in for Happy Hour I would recommend the dip. If you are looking for somewhere to strictly eat, not a bar, I would go somewhere else. By no means horrible food, just more a bar with food then a place I would go to eat.
I like this place! It is a freaking Sport's Bar so if you are looking for gourmet meals then it is your own fault for coming here! I hate pretentious people writing reviews about a sports bar and demanding 5 star meals for $12. Great atmosphere, ton's of HD TV's to watch multiple games, a patio and tons of beer selections. it is every man's dream for a small neighborhood like Olney.
Review Source:In case you're not familiar with the Green Turtle chain, the menu is all high fat, salty, processed food. The service at the Olney location is slow. Each booth has its own tv with several sports channels and two children's channels. The tables in the center of the restaurant can watch their chosen game on several large screened televisions mounted on the walls. GT can provide a fun meal out for families if the kids are entertained by Sponge Bob or the game on tv, but don't expect an inventive dish.
Review Source:Fun atmosphere. My kids are crazy for it. But the food?? Â Ick! Â I ordered the slider appetizers. The meat was a pre-formed machine-style patty with no flavor. Decent buns but way too thick for the meat. No sauce. One tiny piece of grilled onion on each burger. And the onion strings looked darned appealing but were cold (double Ick) and more breading than onion. I won't go back to eat there again,... unless the kids beg first!
Review Source:Ask yourself "Am I a jerk who likes incompetent servers?" If the answer is yes, Â then welcome to the green turtle.
I use to come here if i was too lazy to make dinner but not anymore. The crowd is simply too obnoxious. Â Each time i come here it hits a new low. The staff does nothing to curb rampant cursing and yelling from douchebags. Not to mention the pseudo-lambada grinding that takes place on the patio between drunks. This place went down hill fast.
Great place to have a beer and relax with friends and family! The wait staff is prompt and friendly and the bartenders are awesome! I usually try to sit at Jenna's end of the bar because she is on her game! Unless it is really busy, I don't even have to ask for a refill! She already knows! Good times!
Review Source:We stop by here on a Sunday afternoon during the football season. A typical Bar and Grill restaurant filled with sports fan. Atmosphere was cheery, multiple football games showing on their multiple giant TVs. Like how each booth have their own TV set you could watch. Wait staff was friendly and attentive.
The Buffalo Chicken Dip was average, chunks of chicken in creamy dip. The Boneless Wings were disappointing, asked the wait staff was this actually wings with out the bones, and they acknowledge it was. No it wasn't, is basically chicken tender with white meat in heavy batter. Grilled Chicken Wrap was average also, but the finger full of potato chips came as the side, need to opt out and get some other side instead. The best dish was the Hog Hammers, pork rib on a bed of string fried onion, the pork meat just fell off the bone.
Is a good place to hang out with a beer and watch sports event. I wouldn't go there for just the food.
It's a Turtle. I went to the Laurel location all through college, and if you're from around here and have frequented any of the others, you know what that means. (The "It's a Turtle" part, I mean. I really need to learn to be more clear for an editor.)
It's a sports bar with food (although the menu is trying really hard to be a restaurant these days.) You go here for beer and to watch games on tv, and that's pretty much it. It's one of the best places -- maybe the best place in the county to watch a Ravens game, and that alone saves it. I had a lot of fun watching the playoffs here last year, although I wish they'd cut out another quarter of the dining room so the bar wouldn't get so cramped. The layout in Germantown is much better, and at least allows you to move around a little more when it's crowded as opposed to feeling penned in with those walls and railings.
I've had a sandwich or two that wasn't terrible, but if you want fine dining, this is not your joint. Â But if you want a Greene Turtle? It does that job just fine.
Okay food at decent prices. Â Hey, what do you expect...it's a bar. Â I ordered the Ty Cobb Salad (avocado, chicken, bacon, tomatoes, and cucumbers on a bed of mixed greens sprinkled with bleu cheese crumbles). Â The salad was nothing special. Â Being a salad, it sure did have a lot of ingredients that made it a cobb. Â Most people I'm sure wouldn't complain about this, but I'd like more greens next time please. Â They offer a variety of beers, mixed drinks, and wines. Â I'd skip the house wines though, I wasn't a fan of the brand.
It seems as if most of Olney is here on a Friday night. Â They have live music during the early evening hours (at least during the Summer months, not sure about all the time) and a dj starts around 9pm. Â The bar area begins to start filling up around 11pm. Â I kinda felt old here.
Not a bad place to go if you're in the area and want to grab a bite to eat, something to quench your thirst, or listen to some music.
BTW-They have keno here and tons of TVs to watch sports.
I am mad that I missed the happy hour that ended Friday at 7pm. :( The crowd left as soon as it ended as well as all those great drink special. The servers were very attentive and courteous. I loved watching the game on the tv at the table. Too cool! Great hangout to get some fresh air!!
Review Source:Mediocre food. Service was okay.
Probably won't re-visit again unless there's really no other options. We got an order of the boneless wings and I could not find the meat inside all that batter. I also ordered the crab cake sandwich and it was tasteless. I've had much better crab cakes in other chain restaurants that doesn't specialize in crab cakes!
The only plus about Turtle is the individual TVs at each booth. You can change the channel so you can watch whatever you desire but that's about it. Food's cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for.
I love this place.  I love that there is an outside patio, it's always busy, and wide variety of food. I wish the happy hour was better.  That's the only complaint I have.  Service is great, waitstaff is friendly, food is good.  Plus, it  is fun for everyone, families, young adults, older folks...doesn't matter.  there is something for everyone.
Review Source:Everytime I come to the GT in Olney, the bartenders are willing to serve me.
When I ordered over the phone, the food was ready before I got there.
I sure wish the $5 off coupon deal would expand to Friday, since they're only good for Mon-Thu lunch.
I was there for my parents' wedding anniversary, the waitress we had was a little disorganized, but she was apologetic and got our food out anyway.
Some people can take the service of this Green Turtle, some can't.
Not the most remarkable dining experience I've ever had, but just what I was looking for when we chose a sports bar for dinner! Â The nachos were tasty, wings were delicious, and it was great having our own TV in the booth so that we could switch between games as we pleased. Â Our waitress was prompt and attentive and we had a really nice meal.
Review Source:I'm sorry that the other reviewers have had such bad experiences at the Greene Turtle. Â Personally I don't require much more from a HH than good prices on drinks. Food doesn't really even come into the mix. Â At least not as a qualifying agent.
Add in lots of natural lighting, about a million TV screens, lack of annoying people and I'm quite happy. Â I will DEFINITELY come back to check out an NCAA game here because they promised me thesound will be on for the games.for now it's a jukebox with pretty great music, as it allows me to ignore the other patrons, keeps me upbeat but doesn't distract me from the brilliance of my own thoughts.
I would have REALLY liked to see Olney go for a better quality restaurant in this location, or even just restore the Stained Glass Pub, at least the food there was good, sorry Green Turtle, but your food just isn't good, it doesn't taste fresh and that combined with staff that can't get orders right and long waits, its just not worth it. Â I hope this place turns into a different restaurant in time, and hope Panera Opens up soon !
Review Source:Anyone that has lived in MD or DC Metro area for a while knows by now that Green Turtle does not have good food. Â I started frequenting the Turtle in my college days at Loyola in Baltimore (the Fells Pt location.) Â We ate there a couple of times and it was never anything to write home about (and that is saying a lot since we were eating college food.) Â
The Green Turtle in Olney is no exception. Â This food is pathetic for a restaurant. Â Wings suck, Cobb Salad had so much blue cheese on it and brown avocado's that it became unappetizing. Â The grilled chicken wrap with some kind of weird ass cranberry sauce wasn't good either. Â I stopped going after I tried those 3 items. Â If I ever go back again, it will be to catch a football game that I can't watch from home. Â I'll eat before I go and try to get a seat at the over crowded bar.
Uh... It was so crowded our friends had to stand. Not enough seats.... Our waitstaff disappeared for like half an hour and it was a little quicker to order drinks at the bar.
They got our order wrong. On the menu they have "bone-in wings" and "boneless wings." Not sure why it's phrased this way. Anyways, I specifically ordered the "bone-in wings" AND pointed to them on the menu. (we couldn't get boneLESS because the friend I was with has a gluten allergy so I tried to make sure we were getting Bone-IN)
When they brought out all the food... There was a large platter of 25 Boneless wings. The waitress tried to give it to us (it was cold!) but we asked them to bring us our order, Bone-IN wings. The waitress argued with me, telling me I had told her Boneless.... Weird, 4 other people sitting around me heard me specify Bone-IN. Â Anyways, she probably heard me wrong. She told us it'd take a very long time if we waited for the Bone-In wings.... we asked her to check. They finally brought us wings.... The right kind! They were decent run-of-the-mill wings, just sucks that it took so much effort and what seemed like over an hour of waiting... NOT ACCEPTABLE!!
Nonetheless, I wasn't unpleasant, I'm just not ever coming back.
Final lesson to learn... Bring cash!! The waitress disappeared for eternity with our credit cards. We were there forever, waiting waiting WAITING!
I felt like I was stuck in a Jean-Paul Sartre version of hell. meh!
So if you are into sports bars then this might be the place for you. It seemed like a lot of people were congregating around the bar area watching the latest game. However, if you are looking for a decent place to eat, I would not recommend coming here.
I went for a friend's birthday two weeks ago and was not overly impressed with the food. The amount and quality food you get is not really worth the price that you have to pay. My friends and I got wings to share and since we were in a large group, they waited for everyone order to be done at once so that they could bring it all out at the same time. I don't know if they didn't have food warmers or what but this practice was not a very good idea. My food was cold when it came out and it was also the wrong order. We got bone-in wings but they brought out boneless so we told the waitress who basically said that we were wrong and didn't even apologize. She also took the food back in. We had waited an hour or more for our food. She had an attitude from the very beginning of the night which didn't really set the mood for eating there. When our food finally came out, I have to say that it was okay. Nothing to write home about.
Overall: unfriendly service+ wrong order+ cold food= I'm not coming back unless my friend loves the place and wants to have another birthday there.
The first guy hit it dead on. This place is average to below average. Refried freezer food! Wings way over-rated! The only reason to go is b/c u live in Olney and thats the closest sports gathering place. There were alot of non Olney people there from some other planet. On the upside, the burger was above average and waitress was servicable.Layout not the greatest. very formulaic! All in all need to work on alot before it gets 3 ***. Go to Urban BBQ in Sandy Spring for a 5 **** place to enjoy a good meal and sports on the tube.
