The owner is an amazing guy, the 1 month they opened i was there once a week trying out new beers, he flagged me down and gave his recommendations and now every time i go the staff takes their time and helps me select amazing ales/lagers/etc.
Amazed and extremely happy this place is in Rockland (and stays for years to come!).
Finally stopped in after hearing lots of word-of-mouth hype - and the hype was worth it. We came soon after opening for lunch. Since we were the only patrons we got lots of personal attention from the staff, who fully explained their tap selections as well as their bottles for sale. The pulled pork sliders were delicious and we had fun sampling many beers. Excited to go back soon.
Review Source:To say we're beer people is an understatement, so we are so happy to have found this place. Great beer selection, really nice staff, really good food. Â I really liked the decor and general feel of the place. Â And, on a Saturday afternoon, we were totally comfortable bringing our kids in for lunch and a beer.
The brats were really good and came with an awesome house-made sour kraut that had bits of pork in it. Â The pulled pork sliders were awesome; in fact, it may even be the best pulled pork I've ever had. Â Pizza was good with a great, super crisp crust. Â
Can't wait to return, but the mixed six-pack will have to hold us over. Â I hope they do so well that they open an outpost in Nyack!
This place was a great idea. Â Craft beer shop/bar with a bar menu to chow down on. Â They have a nice selection of bottled craft beer. The best is the rotating craft beers they have on tap and the various brewery tastings they have every week. The staff is also very knowledgable. So why only 3 stars? The prices are outrageous. $7 a pint. $15 a growler fill and up if you bring your own and at least $13 a 6-pack. I would rather go to Defiant($8.50) or Cable Beverages($10-$15) to get growlers and I would only get bottled or can beers here I couldn't find the product elsewhere. I would come for the tastings and have a pint or two, but there is no way I could be a regular at this place with the up charge on everything in the place. You are in a strip mall in Nanuet, not a craft bar in NYC; You're prices should reflect that.
Review Source:Oh this place...this place is the good stuff.
Walk in and you don't know what to make of the place. Is it a restaurant? A liquor store? Hint: it's both.
Walk to the back towards the bar and you're faced with a somewhat intimidating list of 15 craft beers on tap for sampling. Don't get too used to one beer though, because they change frequently, sometimes multiple times a day. You get one free sample of as many of those beers as you want, and you can purchase a growler of any.
My friends and I came here last weekend to start off a road trip and we each made our own six packs in their shop. It's not the largest selection of craft beers I've seen -- that title goes to Half Time in Poughkeepsie -- but it's got some funky stuff. We decided to stick with domestic beers, but next time there will definitely be some international action going on.
$13 for a six pack isn't cheap, but the experience was good enough that it doesn't warrant losing a star. If you're in the Hudson Valley and you like drinkin' (and I know you do), get here.
An out of nowhere beer shop/bar in the middle of Rt 59.
Pretty big size, with 16 craft beers on tap that change regularly. Prices aren't too bad, and they have a solid menu of german-like foods. Big plus to the beer bottle selection that you can take home while also making your own six pack. Beware the corkage fee though if you want one at the table.
Service could have been better, as the waitress never came back to get my order after saying she'd be back. Ended up just having the beer I ordered at the bar. Will always support craft bars in Rockland, so will be back to hopefully eat something.
Nice place, very well done. Â It's a nice atmosphere that I feel comfortable in. Â They have a nice selection of beer on tap that change with the seasons. Â They have a ton of beer in bottles and cans for purchase as well.
That said, it is not cheap. Â Tack on another $3-4 onto the "average" price per six-pack at this joint. Â Like another review stated, it's blatant price gauging. Â
At the bar: One bartender is nice and shares his knowledge of the beer and brewery, the other is a little brisk and won't say much unless you've got a little something on your chest. Â He's kind of a schmuck. Â Maybe it's because I'm younger than 25, but hey- I tip! Â Not the best service I've had by far. Â At the counter, the woman there was very friendly and helpful however.
It's nice to see that a joint like this popped up in Nanuet, but it's a little expensive and not exactly the kind of place you start a conversation with the bartender. It's the kind of place I'd go to once in a while, less than once a month, but worth stopping in.
Amazing place. Great atmosphere, good food, and such a great knowledge base of beer! So many good brews to choose from.
I have to disagree with a recent review... On Saturday I made my own 6 pack for $9. It was: Ommegang, Lagunitas, and Goose Island. There is nothing outrageous about that! If you become a rewards member, you get $ off quite often!
With over 15 taps and hundreds of bottles to choose from, Growler and Gill is the go to place for your craft beer needs. Â The staff are friendly and knowledgable, always willing to point you in the right direction. Â This is a great place to relax, share good beer and conversation. Â The retail side stocks many hard to find brews and saves me the trip of going all the way to the LES for this much variety. Â The food is tasty and simple. Â Many times, their dishes will incorporate the special beers they have on tap. Â I will be back again soon!
Review Source:I am usually very hesitant to give a 5 star review and only do it for places I truly adore! I have also put off writing a review for the Growler because it was very new and I didn't want to speak out of turn. Well upon my first visit for trivia night and what i believe was now my 7th visit, over a two month period, I can genuinely say it is by far the best place in Rockland county for a beer and some good times.
This place is staffed with very friendly and well trained people. I don't know if it is because the staff is very craft beer conscious or because Mike, one of the owners, is that great at passing on the knowledge he clearly exudes. From just an evening out for hh, a night out with friends or if you want to watch a game in the corner(only one large screen TV) it is my "go to" choice. The tastings held here weekly are amazing times and the other events held during the week and month are all worth checking out. Whether you want to experience the wonderful choices on tap or are looking to take home some great brews for your own event this is the place to do it. Fill your growler, take a taste, have a beer, check out their awesome but small food menu. Whatever you were looking for on your craft beer adventure it can be fulfilled here. As a returning elite Yelper, i give this place my highest recommendation and suggest you get there and give it a try. I can tell you once you have been there you will most certainly go back. Kudos to the Growler!
There aren't enough POSITIVE words to comment on this unique-to-Nanuet Craft Shoppe! It is beyond worldly for our area- yet down to Earth at the same time. Chris, Brian, Walter, Mike, etc have a smile and a sample of beer for you to try! Like it? BUY IT in a growler or by the bottle when you leave!!! The food compliments the beer: from beer infused chili (seasonal) to Bavarian seasoned pretzels with mustard also infused with beer! My husband and I frequent this establishment as often as we can! They treat you like family! Great eclectic sodas too! Well done G & G!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review Source:Excellent service and selection! As I walked in I was greeted by an employee and asked if I needed any help. I was pointed in the the right direction towards my taste and preferences. I forogt the employee's name but he was well versed in different brans, styles and techniques each choice had. There is also a hug draft selection of beers for pints and/or growlers.
I decided to go with a mix six pack, which helped me discover some new brands. The only drawback was the cost of the six pack.....however I realized that by buying only six different selections would eventually be cheaper than buy a full pack of a single taste that I never tried.
In the end this is a great place to go and see what new and different tastes you are looking to try. Do yourself a favor, dont just shrug off the staff when they ask "can I help you". Their input is actually very helpful.
I had the pleasure of sitting for a while in this warm and cozy spot for some good beer and some small plates of very well prepared food. Â I had the pilsner as I was looking for something lighter and they had a huge selection of other craft beer on tap. My dining companion had pinot grigio (so yes, they have wine). The food was perfect with the beer. We had the piroges and the bratwurst to start. The pirogues were great, not overcooked covered with a small amount of onion and served with sour cream. Very traditional. The brats were served with stone ground mustard and sauer kraut. Yum! We added a Charcuterie (my friend knows how to pronounce it), an amazing assortment of smoked meat served with thin slices of bread, pickles and olives. Those three plates and a couple of beers made for an excellent meal. Next time I go I will check out the store which is full of craft beer and micro-brew. Sitting in this place reminded me of days when a general store might have had a lunch counter and a few tables. Great concept. One of the owners gave us some tastings. Next time, the Java Lava for sure. I never had a coffee beer that was that good. Thanks for a great night.
Review Source:Had a GREAT tasting event for my birthday Saturday night. It was perfect! Joe spent all night teaching my noobie friends about good beers and helped me pick out some extra special goodies to take home (Ommegang Duvel Rustica, Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout!). They served appetizers before and during the tastings, and Joe even paired some with the cupcakes we had brought. I cannot say enough about the hospitality and knowledge these guys provide.
Review Source:About the only place to get insanely hopped up beer on tap left. Â If you like Coors Light (or even consider that beer), this place is not for you.
Half retail outlet, half gentle upscale beer bar, G & G is sure to please beer lovers, whether you're a hop zombie like myself, or maybe into those Belgian Monk experiments that take the ABV to a new level, or a local stout with chocolate and oatmeal, or just want to relax with friends. Â It's very nice, very clean, the waitstaff aka "beer geeks" are tenured and certified experts. Â There's a short food menu with upscale bar fare made well and a reasonable price.
A nice place for a first date, before dinner, after dinner, or just to try the newest kegs.
Pleasant and Fun. Â Wish it stayed open later . . . or forever.
