Guad's on Granby seems like a nice new addition to Ward's Corner. They just moved into this location over the holidays, but they've been building business in the area pretty steadily; I'd already heard a few people recommend stopping in before we decided to meet some friends here for dinner and drinks. I was pretty pleased with the whole experience; the food was solid, the service was great and we left full and cheerful.
We got in and found the restaurant to be pretty quiet; there's a lot of space but only a few tables were busy. The interior was pleasant but a bit generic; the walls were pretty but a few exposed ducts around the bar looked a bit out of place. I don't fuss too much about decor, though; if the food is good, that's all I want.
We each had a pre-dinner margarita.... they're a bit pricy, but approximately the size of your face, so well worth it, in my opinion. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which were out reasonably quickly. I had a plate of mexican enchiladas, which I definintely recommend, but no one had any complaints about what they had, either.
Compared with the other Guadalajara locations, I don't think you'll see much difference, really; this location was a bit more subdued than, say, Virginia Beach, but since the restaurant was mostly empty, I can't say I'm surprised.
All-in-all, if you're looking for mexican in this area, this is a pretty good option. Mexican good isn't Norfolk's strong suit, for sure, but this is a pretty competitive choice.
Came to Guad's on Granby one day for lunch with some co-workers. Â The staff was very attentive from the moment we walked in. Â I was surprised by the small lunch menu options and the prices seemed a little higher than other mexican restaurants I've been to in the area, but the food was good.
Review Source:Let me start by saying I have lived in San Diego for 20+ years and this was my first  Mexican food in Virginia. Maybe I have to adjust my expectations...
The salsa tasted like Pace and the margaritas were non-descript. The table-side guacamole was good, though a bit pricey for me ($6.99). My husband's fajitas were like a beef stew and my sopes were bland. In fact, I think that was the problem here... everything was bland- no salt, spice or heat
My search for good Mexican food continues.....
Guads mexican restaurant at Wards Corner is a winner. Great friendly attentive service . Guacamole was made table-side. One order was enough for a party of 4. Chips with white sauce and fresh salsa were complimentary. I ordered chicken fajitas and my daughter ordered carne asada. The food was served hot and quickly. Both entrees were delicious. Guads is a wonderful addition to the new revitalized Wards Corner.
Review Source:We went to Guad's on Granby on their opening day and enjoyed great service. Â I was happy to see their menu had a large selection and included some less commonly found foods. Â We got the steak and shrimp brochettes and the yucatan camarones and both dishes were awesome! Â The vegetables with the brochettes were still slightly crisp, just the way they should be! Â And the camarones came with sweet potato fries. Â The margaritas here are killer too, although I recommend the regular margarita over the raspberry flavored margarita.
