I was really craving a Gyros, and I have recently moved from Northwest Indiana here to Central Indiana. Â So, I googled restaurant's I could possibly get my lamb fixing from and came across the Gyro Stop. Â Well, what they need to do is STOP this Tom Foolery. Â I come from a place where Great Gyros are made... the Chicagoland area! Â I was appalled first off by having to pay extra for Feta Cheese to Greek it up they say, and the cucumber sauce had no taste to it at all (money wasted on extra sauce)! Â No onions, no tomatoes...the pita was even bland! Â Finally, we come to the heart of this sandwich "The Meat", which I could't hardly keep down (Yack). Â It tasted like what I would figure Opossum would to the palate. Â Long story short please save your money, especially if you are from up North or any other place that know's good cooking. Â Nicky's King Gyros would put them out of business in 2 days!
Review Source:Pretty standard gyro fare. I enjoy just the plain #1 gyro with french fry combo as a quick lunch. The gyro meat is good, the pita is fresh, and I enjoy the toppings. I am looking forward to trying the falafel after reading the good reviews about it. Its a great place to stop for a quick, tasty, and inexpensive lunch.
Review Source:First off, there isn't any better Gyro spot other than Nikki King Gyros, which is a product of North West Indiana. I just had to get that small outburst out of my system lol. However, because I'm stationed in Central Indiana, it's gloomy and rainy out, and I was beginning to feel very famished, I decided to Journey to Gyro Stop off of 86th ST on the North West side of Indiana. I wanted to try something new as well as a combination of items in order to really experience what they had to offer, so I decided to try the Trio Kabob. The Trio Kabob platter comes with a skewer of three different meats, along with a side item. My side item of choice was hummus (Winnning...).The platter included chicken, lamb and kafta. Kafta is ground meat seasoned with peppers and onions in case you didn't know. It was a very tasty meal and although I didn't dine in, the owner treated me as a guest and was very hospitable. I have to say that Gyro Stop was definitely a good experience and a restaurant that's worth exploring again.
Review Source:As I grew up in Northwest Indiana where multiple King Gyro locations are abundant, no  place can ever come close to a King Gyro, however, this local place is pretty good but I haven't had much of a chance to try other places too. The gyros are good and the toppings are fresh. The staff is very nice. I've only had their food to go and wasn't happy that my cheese fries just had cheese on them instead of on the side. Also, their chicken lemon rice soup is definitly not greek at all. Don't bother ordering it. Just stick to the gyros and baklava and you'll be fine. They are a little skimpy on the tzatki sause (I'm sure I just mispelled that). Lemon rice soup should be simple, creamy, with normal rice, chicken, and lemon. Their "lemon rice" soup tasted like it was made with jasmine rice, saffron, curry, and chicken broth. This place is owned by a Lebanese family so I assume the soup is their take on a traditional greek soup. I do like the fact that they have a frequent customer card. At lunch they have a buffet, but I've only been here for dinner to go.
Review Source:The Gyros are good. I am no Gyro aficionado, but I can tell when the meat used in my gyro is good. I tried the Gyro burrito, but was kinda disappointed. They are just "meh".
My girlfriend LOVED the hummus, and swore that this was the best hummus in town.
The owner is friendly, and the meat is halal, so a good place for my Muslim friends. The service is fast. I have only ordered take-outs, and I would personally not eat in (the ambiance is not very inviting). I am guessing they did not have air conditioning (I might be wrong) - I will go there soon to chow down on a tasty Gyro and confirm the air conditioning status :)
Gyro Stop has the best hummus in Indianapolis, period. Â They also make the best falafel--in fact, it's the only falafel I'll eat. Â
The service is always good, Luke (the owner) is always very friendly, the restaurant is clean, and the food is excellent. Â There's a large variety of meal options, including a good number of vegetarian items. Â Plus, it's locally owned, which makes it doubly-good in my book.
I love my Gyros! I don't go out of my way to come here but the gyros are decent. They have potential to be better though. It's extremely fast!
The sitting area is small and is decorated with faded pictures of Greece.
If they would put a little more time into updating the decor; I think they would have a better following.
It is strange that they serve their meals on cafeteria style trays when dining in but I can overlook that as I do so love my falafel and hummus but I must ask for extra feta on my salad next time as it was lacking something fierce for the record the beet was a really nice addition. Â But enough talk about food, ladies, go there and look at the hunk behind the counter..... Â you'll dine in every time!
Review Source:The Gyro Stop was in the Entertainment Book so I thought I would give them a try. Â I take one step into the store and the cashier asks me what I would like to order, so I scan the menu and order two side dishes, a side of gyro meat and an order of fried mushrooms. Â The cashier says that he is not sure if they can accept my coupon but shows it to the cook. Â "Buy one menu item get one free" is straight forward in my mind. Â The cook explains to the cashier to just charge me for one item and the cook asks for here or to go and I said I would like to dine in.
I pay for my order and the cashiers asks, "That is to go, right?" Â Well, I take a seat and hear some Middle Eastern music in the background. Â Once I got my food it tasted good. Â The Gyro meat is served with Gyro sauce and the fried mushrooms were served with Ranch dressing.
As I am leaving I noticed the trash barrel has a circular hole cut in the top, I guess this is so people don't throw the baskets in the garbage. Â The restaurant is located a block or two east of Trader's Point but this strip mall is a little trashy. Â Their neighbor is a massage parlor. Â On the lighter side, there are a pair of interesting gameball machines that have a pinball game built into them. Â This was my one and only stop at the Gyro Stop.
Came to Indy for the MotoGP races with all my staff, and eight of us showed up at the Gyro Stop and had a fabulous meal. The two vegetarians in the group loved it, the lamb, hummous and salads were delicious.
Had they not served everything on styrofoam (what is it about Indy and styrofoam?!) they would have gotten 5+ stars from me.
Delicious, welcoming, kind and authentic, when I am in Indy, I'll be there.
Very suprised by how good the food was.
Has the Mazza plate.
The falafels were good, seemed machine formed, but the flavor and consitancy was good. Hummus was a good texture, and very garlicy. Dolmas was served warm, which was a nice suprise, but also had very good flavor.
It's a good place for fairly fast middle eastern food.
My last review for Indianapolis before my move and thankfully it was a good one!
My Mom and I stopped here for lunch on my way out of town and had such a nice time. Â The owner was there and we chatted with him about where he was from, how business is going, etc. Â He was surprised we knew about chicken shawarma and talked to us a lot about the local market and what people in the area ask for. Â His menu has expanded and he did so just to accommodate the requests he was getting- so if you see the menu and wonder why it's so varied, that's the reason. Â My advice, stick to the Middle Eastern dishes! Â It's what the owner does best and why stop at a place called Gyro Stop if you're going to get a hamburger?
I had the falafel plate, and the falafel was perfectly seasoned and perfectly fried. Â Not too dense, but just the right size and consistency. Â The hummus that came with the dish was also just delicious. Â My mom was really happy with her chicken shawarma sandwich. Â He'll make tabbouli once a week for his customers that ask for it, and definitely ask for it if you're a tabbouli fan. Â It's the real deal!
Please make the trek over to Gyro Stop if you have the chance. Â Support local business and expand your horizons by trying his delicious food. Â You won't be disappointed!
Kind of Greek/Middle Eastern restaurant in a fast-food footprint. Â I like their gyros and shawarma. Â Nice mom-and-pop family-run place. Â The family is from the middle-east.
Pretty clean. Â Ambience is self-serve fast foot type, with self-serve soft-drinks, utensils and napkins. The food seems authentic. Though they do include a lot of American staples too, like burgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, NY dogs, Chicago dogs, fries, chicken wings, various fried fish, fried shrimp, subs, etc.
This is a good change-of-pace from the fast-food restaurants along West 86th street.
The same family owns "Gyro N Kabob" at 3681 West 86th, corner of Michigan Road. Â I like Gyro N Kabob better as they have a lunch buffet.
