Don't ask why but I've been there several times....
Reasons why I didn't enjoy the place: Atmosphere is lame, too many "odd" individuals, service was bad, and drinks are overpriced for what it offers.
Reasons why I like the place: "queue crickets chirping".
I know the area doesn't have much to offer but you're better off traveling a mile or two on opposite directions. The fact that it's close to a small airport cool does not make.
We used a http://restaurant.com certificate to try this place for a burger (the 1/2 lb pepper jack cheese-guacamole burger and I got it medium rare as requested) and fish and chips. Â I'd go with about 3.5 stars. Â The food is actually quite good and a good value, and the steak had at an adjacent table looked and sounded pretty good too. Â The wife's fried fish was plentiful for $11.95. Â This place is part of Palwaukee airport, and was pretty dead on the weekend though. Â It also seems to be a hangout for local Russians, as they have a big and apparently popular dance club setup on Saturday evenings til 3am. Â It looks like they changed this place, as I thought it once had a rustic airplane decor of some sort, but that's not the case anymore. Â If in the area, and despite its quiet looking appearance, I would recommend a drop-in for the food, as it's pretty good.
Review Source:Hangar 21 sometimes have no people in the weekends. Other weekends or weekdays alot of people come and check out the place for its dance and music.
I find it a good place to relax for a drink and burger. Its not bad considering you have parking and also clean in regards to other places.
You will see alot of these russian jews hang out in the area but other kinds as well. It reminded me of aero squadron when it opened.
I'm guessing since it is now under new management, the old management took the "best burger" recipe with them.
Not a bad experience by any means, but the burger was not 1/2 lb, and while it wasn't icky, it was not stellar, either. Just sort of average. I had the Pilot's something-or-other, which is a burger with bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg on top. I had to send the fried egg back for another one because it was way overcooked. The one that came in its place was undercooked, but I was hungry so I just scraped off the mucus-y raw stuff and made due as best I could. Bun was good, and I am not a bun eater usually.
The steak fries were delicious. The coleslaw was really good - how many coleslaws can have that said about them? They no longer have Cobb salad on the menu but they made it for me anyway - after asking me what came in it.
So we stayed next door at the hotel, and we were kind of curious as to what the restaurant was all about, so my friends and I decided to check it out. Â I mean after all, they had a sign posted that mentioned something about $3 burgers on Monday's and we had just checked in and were hungry, so figured what have we got to loose.....
So much food....we ordered a half pound burger and it came with fries and slaw and then we ordered our beverages. Â I couldn't finish all of my food! Â I was impressed, it wasn't one of the BEST burgers I ever had, but it wasn't the worse. Â Also on Wednesdays they have all you can eat crab legs, but didn't get around to that.
Side note, if you are staying in the hotel, you receive 10% off your bill.
A sign at Hanger 21 proclaimed 'voted best burger in the midwest' but it also listed a poker tournament with a date of two weeks prior so I'm not sure how much attention the owners pay.
So we tried their 1/2 lb burgers on a weekday night recently. Quite good, while they didn't cook them to our requested medium rare, there was a bit of pink in them. $8.95 for the basic burger, $9.95 for the specialty burgers. good fries.
Besides a few folks gathering for a pro karaoke night, there were no other people having dinner at 6:30pm. Service was very friendly but awkward and not very attentive seeing as we were the only diners in the restaurant. Servers were in training, too bad lead trainer was wearing way too much perfume so that we could almost taste it on our burgers.
We never did find out who/what had voted them the best burger in the midwest.
I started going to this place for $1 drinks on Christmas day, cant go wrong with that!! Â I have to say, this place has a lot of potential to become something really great. If your from the area, I think you can agree that we desperately need it.
I'm a fan for sure and was I surprised that I've never wandered...a.k.a stumbled into this place before. I heard this place has a new owner...so maybe that would explain why I've never heard of this gem before.
Being an Ex-Rocky Vanders fan (down the street) this might be my new spot to have some drinks and listen to some tunes when I don't feel like boozing downtown.
Cheap drinks on regular Friday nights, surprising good tunes from the DJs. I took my girlfriends this past weekend and they loves the mix of music, especially from one of them because she's all about the city.
My only request to the DJs: Never...EVER..ever play "Yolanda"... It reminds of the horrible music mix they have done the street. It wasn't only me....I heard other people share the same thought. Â
I took a peak at their menu of food and they had a pretty good selection of food, we ordered only mozzarella sticks but it was the best mozzi sticks I've ever had. Just for that, I will have to try more of their food next time.
Pretty big dance floor with booths surrounding it, so you'll see people going low, low, low, low.
Bathrooms were clean and in good shape, very important for all women. No one wants to sit and hold the door at the same time.
Pretty good stocked bar... full of all my favorite men, Jack, Morgan, Jose etc....
Plus the Best Bartender (Dominick) Â in the area also works here.
Good Time, Good Times.
Very eager to see how this place develops.
