Looked like a fun spot but it was dead at 9 on a Sunday. Â Maybe I've just lived in a city that has something going on for far to long, but that just didn't seem like a good thing. Â We tried to stop by again on a Tuesday and it look like they were closed. Â Not sure what's going on here but seriously??
Review Source:The restaurant is delicious. I had the best pork chop with mashed and broc that I've ever had. Classic meal done perfectly. Super cute waiters. They were big and fuzzy ^_^
The bartender was really nice as well, but he seemed overly busy for no particular reason since there was no one there. As I was leaving through the bar area, I noticed that the patrons were....reveling in being fancy. Not my scene, but amazing decor.
Havana and I started off on a bad foot when my husband and I both had to pay a cover to get in($5 a pop). Now, of course I've paid covers before, but usually it's for a club or a venue that has a cool band playing. This scenario however involved paying 30+ min before the music even started when we had intended to only go for dinner and wine. Â Which brings me to my next complaint. Their website boasts having "90+ wines". I ordered three different Pinot Noir's....why three?? Well, because each time the waitress came back to tell me they were out. Finally, I asked her to please give me a list of which reds they had available and she came back with....THREE!! Only three reds available out of over a dozen on menu? Seriously? To make matters worse they were all over $15 a glass (there were cheaper ones on the menu but none of these were available).
They also were out of the first two beers my husband ordered - IPA and  Bass. You can imagine how irritating this was, considering their "expansive" wine and beer list was a big influence on our choice to come here. For dinner I had the ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich, which was pretty good, but not enough to make up for the restaurant's other lacking components.
I totally get having to pay a premium for eating in a desirable location or getting drinks at the new "in" place. Â However, this establishment did not hold up its end of the deal. We ended up heading down the street to Cassidy's Irish pub which had live music with no cover, offered more wine/ beer on tap and had a better atmosphere (and cheaper drink prices!) Lesson learned!
Today, I stopped into the Havana club to have a
nice cigar and enjoy the atmosphere. In return, I received a very cold welcome from Albert. There were no cigars available  although there were several boxes. A wine list was not provided 5 house wines were just  spouted off. I felt as though he  just wanted to get rit of us because we werent part of his usual clientelle.  I don't recommend this place to anyone unless you want the cold shoulder. I would not recommend this place to any off my friends or associates out of San Antonio or Florida.  He had no idea who we were or our status.
I personally do not like the new Havana Club it doesn't have that intimate feeling like the old Havana had, the new Havana feels more like just another night club than a lounge. The mojito's are delicious though however i have had a few that weren't as great as my first couple of rounds and no the waitress did not take it off my my tab, which I think is just wrong. i really really miss the old Havana the booths were amazing and very very intimate the old Havana had that special something, the new one is beautiful but not special.
Review Source:Havana had some high points and some low points. Â Unfortunately, the low points were quite low. Â
The good:
~El Infidel sandwich was pretty fantastic. Â It is a pulled pork panini style sandwich with Swiss cheese, fried plantains, served with cilantro aioli. Â Yummy good! This sandwich made it to my list of items to reverse engineer.
~ Mojito number 1 was pretty good. Â It was also served with a plastic naked lady. Â This seems trivial, but it will make sense when we get to the bad. Â
~The Chocolate y Chipotle (like a chocolate tart) was pretty tasty with a hint of spice from the Chipotle. Â
The very bad:
~Everything else we ordered (Ropa Vieja, Lomo, Cuban Bread) was pretty uninspiring. Â The Cuban bread was just pita bread from the grocery store. Â
~The second mojito was terrible and sans plastic naked lady. Â It tasted like club soda with lime. Â The mint in it was slimy rotten and very disgusting looking. Â I alerted the waitress about it, and she said that it was made by the other bartender. Â Okay, how about teaching him how to make drinks before letting him work? Â Worse was that she didn't take the drink off the tab. Â
While Havana Club had some good qualities, charging customers for a drink with rotten produce is just wrong. Â Sorry, Havana, I like my mint fresh.
Whether you're a local or just visiting Corpus Christi, Havana Club downtown is the place to go for Tapas, Wine, Cigars & great music. Â The new Havana just opened & it's amazing! Â It's larger than the old one & the owner's spared no expense on the decor. Â You really feel like you've stepped out of Corpus & into the swinging days of Cuba before Castro. Â There is a beautiful cigar humidor with an array of top notch cigars and there is also a wine locker room to store your personal stash. Â My favorite part of the place besides the sharp looking bartenders wearing white sports coats is the fabulous lighting throughout the space. Â Giant custom made crystal chandeliers drip over the bar & the funkiest mushroom light fixture hangs at the entrance. Â There are also LED lights all over the place that light up the bar & the glossy hand painted cement dance floor. Â A cool retro pattern is painted on one side of the wall and lights up only by a black light. Â Also, the exquisite antique assortment of tile from Europe is a sight to see throughout the place. One of the patterns on the tile had tobacco leaves on them! Â Havana Club is truly a work of art! Â The mojitos are devine and I highly recommend trying the fried goat cheese & the arroz con pollo. Â Great place for a date night or dinner with friends. Â Friendly & accomodating staff as well. Â You definantly feel an electric vibe in the air when you' re at Havana! There is nothing like it anywhere near. Â Love this place!
Review Source:I was in Corpus for business and found this establishment by accident. You almost forgot you were in Corpus Christi when you were here. This smallish tapas bar is located in the ground floor of an office building. The owners did a great job with ambience. Polished concrete floors lead you to the bar that has maybe 10 bar stools. there are small tables scattered along the walls and a wrap around patio with set park-like furniture accomodating 25-30 people. In the three free corners of the bar there are small cuban/urban bench seats with an eclectic round wood table that looks hand carved. The best seats in the house however are the three u shaped booths on the backside of the bar, facing the patio and street. We fit seven people in one of these.
The drinks are good. The keylime martini is a house specialty and it is too sweet to finish. I hit the jackpot when I ordered a mojito. It was excellent with the perfect amount of liquor to mint. It arrived with a plastic ballerina sticking out of the top. I thought it was great. The music gets loud and the volume in general can get loud in such a small space with concrete floors.
I liked this place so much that I returned the next night. The second evening we tried thier "tantelizing tapas" (quoted from their web site). They were very very good. We had the friend goat cheese, some sort of asparagus plate, some chicken and rice bowl. All were really great.
