My former roommate and I decided to stop in here while exploring our new neighborhood.  The owner, Marco, was behind the bar slingin drinks and recommended his special micheladas (or as my friend refers to them as, spicy beer).  Your beer of choice (our favorite is Modelo...gotta have a Mexican beer in a Mexican drink, right?!), Clamato, Tabasco, lime juice, olive juice and spices.  Delicious!  That is the ONLY thing I have ever had here, so I have no idea what they have for craft beer, or how their other mixed drinks taste.  I sit at the bar every. single. time. and have never once looked at what they have on tap (which is VERY unusual for me...I'm a total beer snob).  We get together every so often for "spicy beer nights" and have yet to be disappointed by our yummy libations.  SOMETIMES, the bartenders get caught up in talking to the regulars and we sit with dangerously low/empty glasses for a sec, but it's really no big deal...it's actually pretty entertaining to see the way they interact with their regulars.  The jukebox is nicely mixed with old-school hip hop, 90's slow jams (baby-makin music, as I call it) and 90's rock.  I believe they are working towards getting a kitchen and a full menu, which will be nice to have so close to home!

What a waste of a great building. Been under new ownership/management something like 5 times in the last three years.

Now they've gone back to serving budweiser specials, and if the kitchen ever opens, menudo and taco's and burrito's (I know I'm mistakenly making these possessive, that's what they do at Phil's place, our 'hood's other dive bar).

I went in the other day and got the stinkeye as I entered as I was the only white dude. They warmed up a bit but I had two weird conversations with the only two other people there. One lady told me she was so glad that Jezebel's folded because she and other regulars didn't appreciate lesbians being welcomed. Other dude explained to me that he is on unemployment (but can afford going to the bar and an Android phone) and not looking for a job because "if I don't use the money it will just go to some rich guy".

    Yikes.

    Thank goodness we have Jakes.

The potential here is HUGE, esp. in such an up and coming area. First they need to upgrade their beer selections and stop relying on the big beer corps. to determine their stock. Forget Widmer or Red Hook--some Great Divide bottles, Breckenridge or Boulder-area brews (Avery, Boulder Beer, etc.) could go a long way into giving those who love good, craft beer some selections to choose from. This place has seen so many incarnations in the past decade that it's like the Vine St. Pub space before Mountain Sun got their paws on it and made it run like a top--I hope the past failures at High Street have been a result of poor management/marketing and not because the building is haunted. Yes, haunted. In a good way, i.e. friendly spirits, but they're there. Brave souls can ask to go upstairs where the brothel rooms are...but I would suggest a strong constitution and good head lamp. Cold spots galore and you WILL believe. Perhaps the kitchen will churn out some healthy alternatives to bar fare and not have just variations on fried food. I really hope this business makes it! The neighborhood needs a good watering hole, badly.
