This is great Chinese food better than most. No tables because it is "take out" Which is cool because it's good and they give you so much of whatever rice you buy they have to force the top closed. The egg rolls are fat with plenty of pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, etc. Everything I've had has been great. I've been going there for 30 years and it is still the best!
Review Source:This is not the place it used to be in the 90's and early 2000's. The flavor of this food has gone completely down the drain. The shrimp fried rice used to be so flavorful with just enough oil. Now it's dry and flavorless. The orange chicken... ewe! It had too much of a tangy after taste and the pineapples do not mix well in the dish. The crab Rangoon was also disgusting. It was too chewy and it had a weird old fish taste in it. I miss the days when Hoe Toy trumped over all the Chinese restaurants on the south side. Those days are clearly over.
Review Source:This is best Chinese food spot on the southeast side of Chicago. They have the best shrimp fried rice. They give you nice sized shrimp and the food is seasoned just right. They only except cash that the only minus they have. Its best to call in your order to avoid a wait on the weekend. There is plenty of street parking on Stony Island. Â Everytime I go there the food has been consistent.
Review Source:No one has done a review for Hoe Toy?!?! Â Well, I'll be the first then. Â If you can overlook the fact that you have to order your food through a bulletproof window and that they only take cash, you're in for a real treat. Â The food here is REALLY good. Â Seriously some of the best Chinese food in the city. Â It's a hidden gem because it's not in yuppieville. Â They're open pretty late and it's carryout only. Â Being that they have bulletproof glass, I'm guessing they don't want people sitting in there so there's no tables. Â They give you a crapload of fortune cookies too. Â That's gotta count for something. Â And c'mon, everyone wants to say they've eaten at a restuarant with the word Ho in the title.
