We decided to try HTG for the first time this evening since it was half price burger night (Tuesdays). Â Nice atmosphere (plenty of space between tables, not too loud), and the burgers and fries were both good. I asked for med rare, and that's what I got. These are BIG burgers, too. Â Not skimpy just because it's burger night. Â My only issue was a delay in getting drink refills. Â We will go back.
Review Source:The food here is good, but not great and sometimes it takes a while to get your food, but the servers are generally friendly and they have a good selection of standard American fare. The drink selection here is good and its a great, low-key place to watch a game and have a few drinks with friends.
Note: If you're a hamburger fan, Tuesday's are the best night to go since they have half-priced burgers.
This is my bar of choice at the university. There are some decent specials and a good selection of drinks. Â I have enjoyed the burgers and wings. Their nachos are also good and it is a huge order. The layout is pretty good and it is nice to catch games there. Â When the weather is nice they open the front wall which gives the bar a nice open feel. Overall I enjoy the place and would suggest it when you are in the area.
Review Source:I've been here several times before and I can say that the place has definitely gone down hill. Â The Bar is a good sports bar, but I would not recommend the food at all. Â
I went with my daughter for dinner and I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, she had the Cowboy Burger, medium. Â Although there were very few meals being served it still took about 20 minutes from ordering until we got our food. Â My daughter's burger was charred on the outside and way overcooked. Â My chicken breast was very small and overcooked, making it chewy and tough. Â I asked the server to take my sandwich back, and then it took them 20 minutes to fry up another chicken breast even though we saw no other food coming out of the kitchen. Â
The 2nd one was as bad as the first so I asked the server to talk to a manager and after the employees furiously searched for the manager I was informed that none was available because she had stepped out. Â I ended up leaving without eating after spending almost an hour there.
Very nice place, very inviting room and good service. Â They have a nice selection of beer and some good local choices.
I was a little disappointed in the menu, I guess from reading other reviews I was expecting a different choice. With nothing that really jumped out at me I took the snack route and went with wings. Now, these were very good with some very good blue cheese for dipping. Â Not the best that I've ever had but very good.
This would be a great place to hangout, watch a game and catch up with friends...now if I wasn't just visiting!

There's a lot to like about HTG- close to campus, rarely busy, good TV placement. Â I'd say it's a very good place to watch a game. Â As for food, your mileage may vary. Â I've ordered salads that have come without dressing, with chicken that's dry as leather, and completely perfect and delicious. Â They are also very good for kids, which is not what you'd expect from a college sports bar.
Their fried foods tend to be better, but that might be the beer talking. Â Speaking of which, they do have a handful of craft beer options, better than some sports bars, but not for the serious beer drinker.
We were in Fredericksburg for a gymnastics meet and looking for a family-friendly place that also had adult beverages. Thankfully, the Yelp reviews led us to Home Team Grill, which was not far from our hotel. Our group of four adults and five kids received great service from the manager and our server, plus we happily found appealing menu items. High marks for the Turkey Pastrami Sandwich and the Asian Wrap! A couple of the kids found their chicken fingers to be a bit too done for their taste, but no biggie. Altogether, it was exactly what we were looking for! If we're in Fredericksburg again, we'll be back!
Review Source:Good food wait staff did not understand differance between beer on tap and what wasbottled as I wanted to have a beer on tap and expressed that i got something bottled. My second beer I help the waitress with understand8ng the differance between bottled & on tap. Â Management should have taken care of that before they went to work here..
Review Source:Home Team Grill is a solid, local sports bar option that has an eclectic menu for vegetarians and a seemingly good report with the locals.
After a drive from Baltimore to Fredericksburg, our group was really hungry and we settled on what appeared to be a Yelp-recommended local option for some quick bar/grill type of eats. We arrived and were quickly seated outside. I ordered a Yuengling beer to start, which was ice cold and sent in a large glass, which are two great things on a warm summer day. I ordered the Portabella Stacker sandwich with a side of macaroni and cheese for my dinner. The stacker was substantial, a very large portabella mushroom as the base with a gooey mix of cheese, peppers, onions, and marinara sauce. The sandwich itself tasted good, but was really too messy to have a great handle. The mac & cheese side was very tasty, if not anything that special. Someone else got the grits, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but others were.
There's not much else to say, our waitress had one or two snafus with the ordering but was otherwise friendly and solid, the bar staff seemed to enjoy conversing with the regulars on the other side, and it seemed like a friendly, accessible restaurant.
When there are flat screens in the restrooms you know they are serious about their sports.
Ate outside with our furry babies, area outside big enough to avoid the smokers. Indoor is very nice too.
Food was good, quick, service even better. Atmosphere is college town, very friendly community. Newer strip mall and buildings make this stop a winner.
Kudos to Home Team Grill for being a sports bar that is both family- and vegetarian-friendly. Add in the fact that it's located in a very attractive and accesible new development right off of Route 1, and HTG is easily one of the most well-rounded restaurants in the Fredericksburg area.
When my family went to HTG on a Friday evening, the noise levels were moderate and there were several families with children eating. The atmosphere was pleasant, and much more low-key than at many sports bars.
The restaurant offers a full selection of traditional American dishes -- burgers, pasta, salads, sandwiches, etc. -- as well as an impressive beer list. It doesn't neglect vegetarian options either, and even offers diners the choice to sub in a veggie patty for any of the burger items on the menu.
I ordered a veggie fiesta burger with onions, lettuce, tomato, salsa verde and pepper jack cheese. Pleasingly, HTG went light on the cheese rather than having it dripping off the patty as happens at some restaurants. The patty was decently tasty and had a good consistency, but it didn't offer a whole lot more than a supermarket-bought Gardenburger. My only other complaints are that the salsa verde was hardly noticeable and it would've been nice to have the option of a whole-wheat bun. On the plus side, HTG's fries are great -- well-seasoned and just the right size.
HTG's service was solid, as well. Our waitress informed us right away that it was happy hour and we could purchase $2 domestic drafts. She was also attentive, but not overly so, throughout the meal. The only slip-up came when the courtesy bread provided to our table wasn't delivered until immediately before our entrees came out. It would've been better to bring out the bread earlier so we could've nibbled on it while waiting.
In the end, however, HTG is one of those rare places where I could imagine going with my family for a quiet dinner or with my friends to have a drink and watch a game. It's also a place where vegetarians can go and still enjoy the experience of traditional American dining.
Excellent  family owned sports bar near downtown and the University.
They have a great menu selection and a nice selection of craft brewed beers.
We had an issue with a flat beer and the Manager Melissa came over to apologize and change out the beer. Nice service and a classy touch.
I had the Ty Cobb salad and the clam chowder. Both were fresh, great flavor and a great value.
They also have a nice mix of different size HD TV's. They also have a private room with a large TV.
During the summer, you can enjoy outdoor seating on the patio.
Better than Glory Days! The burger was outstanding. The homemade chips are the best - THE BEST- I've ever tasted. Order them instead of fries. Too many TVs to count. Private party room. Great beer menu, wait staff and across from new UMW Arena. Can't wait for basketball season and pre/post game action.
Review Source:Dropped by here for a quick drink & bite and was really impressed. Â I had never seen this restaurant here before, or ventured into the new Eagle Village mixed-use center. Â We were drawn in by the open-air seating created by the full-length sliding doors. Â On a beautiful spring night, good show. Â
When inquiring about an IPA I had never had before, I received an informative explanation, but also a sample of both that beer, and a similar IPA. Â The menu shows a healthy beer list for a sports bar. Â My gf ordered a burger, which I had a bite of, and was very impressed. Â I understand that using a burger to benchmark their overall food quality is naive, but good first impression.
This was my first visit, however their good service and friendly atmosphere has me on the hook, and this will be one of the first places I'm ready to return to on my next visit to Fred. Â Lots of TV's and outdoor seating.
Newly opened HTG was very good. Wait staff, although new, did a good job. The manager, Jay, was friendly and invited comments on how to improve food and service. He was quite knowledgeable about both and we enjoyed the dialogue.
Our meal, chicken quesedillas, Mediterranean salad, and sliders, was excellent. Portions were large and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant / bar, which focuses more on the food than liquor. It should be a big success.
