We dropped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, when heading in to Manchester to see the fall colors. We wanted to try someplace local and figured anything in Manchester downtown would have a wait. The name of this cafe had a nice ring to it and the sign looked welcoming, so we went in.
There certainly seemed to be several "specials" on the board, in addition to the regular menu. Our party of four ordered food at 1:45pm. We noticed there were two servers - one Asian lady and another girl. I could tell from the look of things that something wasn't quite right - the two servers appeared to have an argument. There were too many people at the tables without food. This should've rung warning bells, but I just put it down to a high turnout for lunch. Well, by 2:40pm, we hadn't seen any sign of our food (which included an order of scrambled eggs and toast!). Food began arriving to the tables which were occupied just before we came in! Sensing that this might be an even longer wait for us, and looking at the angry/hungry expressions on other patrons' faces, I went up to our server and asked our order to be canceled if they hadn't begun preparing any food yet.
Surprise! Our food came out in two minutes, and it was lukewarm! It certainly appeared that the food was ready, but it wasn't being served! The Asian lady was somehow all over the place while the other girl was twiddling her thumbs. My guess - the Asian woman was directing patrons to her section of the restaurant so she could get more tips.
Well, I will say that the food was good when it did arrive. Another group that had arrived before us were still waiting for their order (which apparently included chicken fingers - c'mon, how long does it take to prepare/serve up chicken fingers?) when we got served. Then, one woman in that group got really upset and sure enough, her food arrived next. This restaurant was a disaster!
I love Manchester, but vow to never again set foot in the Hound Dawg Cafe. I recommend you take your business and your time elsewhere too.
