Had the pleasure of making this my bar while I was in Hawaii for 3 and ahalf months. The Rose is a great place to drink. Lots of beer to choose from and lots of cool people to chill with.Patrick, Laura,Denver,Abby, and the rest of the staff will bend over backwards to keep your glass full and you entertained. Make sure you stop in while your in town.
Review Source:Went here last sat (4/20) with some friends to see their friends band play.... the band was called Elephant I believe, they were AWESOME! The place wasn't bad either... until I realized you can smoke in there. Â (there wasn't very many people when we first entered so it wasn't really smoky) I've got to admit, after living in NYC where u can NOT smoke in bars AT ALL... I was VERY DISAPPOINTED moving back home and going out and seeing that apparently in certain bars here you can still SMOKE! Â For that reason and that reason alone, I will NEVER go back to this establishment. Â If you don't mind the smoke, it is probably a great place to hang out... My lungs are STILL trying to recover 6 days later....
Review Source:This is my favorite spot in Honolulu! It's a type of place I feel comfortable in, as I'm not much of a club goer.
I like the live music and the dim atmosphere. As an ex-smoker, I don't mind the smoke inside. If you do and if it really bothers you, then this might not be the place for you. But it's a pretty big place so it usually isn't that bad.
The staff is really nice and friendly and most importantly know what they serve - beer wise. I like beer, but I unfortunately don't know very much about it, so the waitress (forgive me, I forgot her name, but she was very nice and pretty and I might have a little girl crush on her ;P) suggested what is now my favorite beer.
If you're more in the bar/pub scene and look for a relaxed and friendly environment to listen some music too, the Irish Rose is for you!
This is a great bar! It's no longer the Pink Cadillac. It's now a Irish pub with great cover bands, Elephant is a polished group of rockers that rock the house! Master of Oz is there on most Fridays and they are very talented! The bar staff is very good and jumps when it comes to getting drinks! The selection of beer on tap is vast and the whiskeys are great! Lots of great Irish whiskeys. Each month they run a whiskey special this month is Powers Whiskey and the bar tender gave me a sample. Â On a weekend night the dance floor is on fire and all are having funn! Stop in for a good time and don't forget to tip your bar tender!
                                 Fanx,,,The Punisher!
This place is a great place to relax and just chill out. Â Nice to go to a bar where everyone is there to have a good time and not looking for a fight. Â
FOOD!!! Â As of about a month ago they started serving appetizers. Â I work nights so it's nice to go in on my "lunch break" listen to music, have some snacks, and head back to work. Â
Great place to get away from the tourists.
Two words! Yes, please!!!
So, we recently moved to the island. Â Being an avid football fan, I needed to find a place to watch my beloved Redskins in the Wild Card round. Â (Yeah, I know we lost, but we had a heck of a season)
Anyhoo, I reached out to the Redskins via social networking and was advised that Irish Rose was on their list of Redskins Rally bars. Â So, of course I Yelped, Googled, and GPS'd the place immediately. Â Gathered up my comrades and told them that they were going to watch football with me. Â They didn't argue too much because I offered to buy drinks!
We arrived, walked upstairs, and to our delight we instantly loved the local vibe.  I'm a sucker for "dive" bars and this place is my kind of spot.  We were greeted, carded, and sent about our way.  We made our way to the bar and asked if there was table service.  She said we could order with the server or at the bar, they didn't mind either way.  At that moment, the server walked up and said we could order there are with her, whichever we preferred.  We opted to let her do her job and we sat back at our table.  Kate came frolicking over, introduced herself, shook our hands, and proceeded to provide us with excellent service.  Now, often times when you get excellent service right off the bat, it either stays that way or it can become mediocre.  Kate was the former.  She was always on point, attentive, sassy, and a downright amazing server.  We loved her  instantly!!
The atmosphere of the bar is definitely local. Â If that's your thing, you'll be at home. Â If you're visiting and looking for something lively, it might not be your scene. Â We can't wait to go back and check out the live music, which apparently happens every night. Yes, every night! Â
We'll definitely be back, and we'll definitely be asking for Kate by name!!!
(PS - Don't be fooled by the Irish in the name. It's not a pub, it's definitely a saloon. Â And that's A-OK in my book!)
The Irish Rose is a fun bar to go hang out with some friends and listen to some pretty good cover bands. Â They have a good selection of beers on tap and a good amount of your standard liquors. Â Prices are fairly good for the fact it is in Waikiki and no cover and it's open till 2am. Â
Standard busy nights are Friday and Saturday but is can also get pretty busy on weeknight as well. Â Even when it is really busy the service I have gotten has always been good. Â
Other things about the bar are despite having "No Smoking" sign hung up they allow you to smoke and will even give you an ashtray. Â The smoking thing kinda turns some people off to this place but makes others like it that much more. Â There are also a couple of dart board near the back. Â Lastly, this place gets kinda loud especially when the band starts playing so don't think you are going to have a private conversation, I have at times found myself texting people in my group what I was trying to say so I didn't have to shout it a million times.
I really like going out to the Irish Rose, especially because it's in a convenient location for me. They have a great drink selection and their live bands are almost always fun to listen to. Service is pretty quick, even on busy nights.
My only complain would be the smoking. It gets so smoky in there, it's pretty gross after a while. Plus my clothes and hair total reek afterwards. And sometimes the crowd is a bit rowdy, but normally that's fine.
I've been for the tricycle races and one time after hanging out post-international auto show.
They have Smithwick's and alcoholic cider on tap. They don't serve food but you are welcome and free to bring it with you/ or order take out!
They play live music, but I haven't came around yet to check out that scene. Very laidback place great for transplants to Hawaii.
If you like the pub scene, this is a go-to spot for the beers you want on tap.
Oh the Rose! Â The Irish Rose is a great little neighborhood bar. Â Every once in a while a wandering tourist will venture in and of course be warmly greeted by the fantastic staff. Â The Rose was the first bar I discovered after moving to Hawaii and quickly fell in love. Â Live music every night, a great beer selection with employee knowledge to back it up, smoking indoors, football every Sunday, charity bar events, oh the list goes on! Â Its a bit dark, but go upstairs You won't be dissapointed. Â They do not have a kitchen but you are welcome to have food delivered or bring it in with you. Â Or perhaps you're hammered and its Friday night, just go downstairs and grab a pork sandwich! Â Â
Overall If you like music, beer, great service and don't mind smoke then stop at the rose!
If you're looking for a place to cut a rug, have some cocktails, drink some beer, listen to a live band, watch sports, play beer pong, play darts, and just have a damn good time granted not in the best of 'hoods, you have found your spot!
The place is brilliantly dim lit and wreaks of all things SALOON. It is not an Irish pub but they have great Irish beer (nothing beats the Guinness in Ireland and they could sell a good cider to make it legit!). This place has so many things to do that if you can't have fun here you must be missing all of your senses! Its definitely a place to bring your friends and make a tour of this huge space.
The staff is friendly, attentive, helpful and not too hard on the eyes. The prices are great and are made even better with the many specials they have throughout the night and the different days.
The live band really makes this place stand out. No matter the music there is always a good mix of people of all ages. This seems to be a good group of patrons, too!
All and all a great place to let yourself go! The place does smell of smoke and you will too - Just sayin'.
yelp 365 challenge #49/365
found myself here at 11am...
a few months back...
it was my friend, some guy, the bartender, and me...
so service was on point...
;)
prices were good...
i love how there was no crowd...
i'm sure usually its packed, but i'm too old...
i like my space..
i wouldn't mind coming back one night to check it out...
it has that kelly's feel that everyone loves...
The live music here is awesome. Not many people get on the dance floor..I wish they did! Drinks are decently priced.
They play every NFL game on Sunday which I love!
The only complaint I would have is that smoking is permitted inside so I always come out of there smelling like smoke. I guess that's good for the smokers.
This is the best dive in Honolulu. Â I venture at least a couple times a week. Â Very chill and the bartenders remember you. Â Denver has a solid handshake too.
For the reviews about not coming here to meet girls... Â Yes, this isn't a floozie college age hook up bar. Â This is a laid back, "cheers" type bar, for conversation, good people and stiff drinks. Â Great times
It's ridiculous that it's taken me this long to write a review for The Rose, which was my home away from home for the two and a half years I lived in Honolulu. Â To be clear, almost everyone on the staff is a personal friend of mine, so I may be biased; however, if you don't want to take my word for it, you can read previous reviews. Â Take it from me, though ... tip your bartenders. Â They remember.
This is an Irish bar with great (if somewhat unpredictable) specials, an excellent staff, and a real commitment to making their patrons feel involved. Â It's definitely a little rough around the edges, which tends to be a plus for me when I'm looking for a hang-out. Â Smoking is allowed indoors, it's in a slightly unsavory pocket of Waikiki, the bartenders will make fun of you if you order anything too froofy (and will just razz you in general), but it all adds to the flavor. Â In addition to regular bands every night, there are a bunch of annual and ongoing events which foster a sense of community; on top of St. Patrick's Day and Anniversary parties, keep a look out for the yearly Irish Rose .500 (team-based tricycle relay races, which are exactly what they sound like plus an emcee and vodka) and the Not-So-Special Olympics (I'm not 100% sure if that's what it's called) featuring such competitions as goldfish races, pillow fights, and turkey bowling.
This is the kind of place where you might walk in alone for a pau hana drink, and end up staying until halfway through the band's set -- after several rounds, including shots, and having made a handful of new friends from all backgrounds and circles of life. Â You might even dance. Â I know, I know ... you "don't dance." Â Never say never at the Rose ... believe me, it might happen. Â
Basically, everyone's welcome -- but don't act the fool or you'll be kicked out to cry outside 7-11. Â The customer's not always right if the customer is an a*shole, but much is forgiven at The Rose, because it's understood that we all have those moments.
In short -- good times, reasonable prices, excellent staff, convenient location, live music every night. Â Oh, and late weekend nights, get a sandwich from the cart downstairs. Â Pile on the jalapenos and the spicy mayo in my honor, and drink to me!
Decided to stop here when a friend and I were out and about, while visiting Waikiki. Â It had decent reviews on yelp. Â Went there midday and there were only a few others in the place, but the bartender was friendly and we were SO excited they had Miller lite on tap b/c we hadn't found that anywhere else in Waikiki. Â I'm sure this place gets happening when the live bands come in and it's true happy hour time. Â I would go back...
Review Source:The Rose was one of the first bars I explored after moving here last December. Having a bit of a bias when it comes to my Irish bar's I really didn't hold high hope for finding one in Honolulu that I dug. Well, I found it.
Having moved here from the south, were smoking is everywhere, it was a bit of a shocker to walk into a smokey bar. My group cheered in unison, everyone smokes when they partake in the drink. Party on!
The staff is amazing. The waitress was always prompt with refilling our glasses. A little bit of small talk here and there, some quick jabs back and fourth (that's how we roll) and some pretty decent live music.
This is the closest bar I can find in town that reminds me of my old stomping grounds back on the mainland. I close my eyes and see myself slinging drinks, talking smack, and rocking out to our house band in the dirty old bar back in Georgia. It good. So good, I had no qualms hitting up the Rose on a Wednesday night solo, and as a 26 year old chick who is NOT looking for a new man piece, says a lot! Â
If you go, see if Dean is behind the bar. Won't find a nicer guy in the joint.
Now understand... this is a drinkers bar. Not to say an alcoholics bar mind you... it's just well understood that you don't go to the Irish Rose for a fresh berry Daiquiri if you get my drift.
That all said and done... I'm putting together a YELP team for next years tricycle race! Proceeds go to charity but there is a time commitment! There are several weeks of preliminary races before the big event, and the team members needed are of a very specific type.
The tricycles are TINY! So we need some small drivers... and your pit crew consists of drinking a ton of shots on the laps... so we need DRINKERS!
Tiny people and beer bellies apply.
The Red Bull team won this year and I really want to see them go down! Please help me make that dream a reality.... please.
I went here last night to watch the live bands. Â Parking for here is a pain in the butt. Â So make sure you get here early so you can try to grab street parking otherwise you are going to have to pay a lot of money for parking in the Wailana Coffee house lot. Â
Well upon entering you are going to go upstairs and they will check your ID. Â After that there are a bunch of tables and chairs. Â A lot of the chairs are old and you can tell but who really cares because it is a bar. Â It is pretty dark in here and there are television screens scattered about showing various sports games. Â
The main reason to come on Saturday night is the live bands. Â The times that I have been here has always been on Saturday nights and they have been pretty good. Â
The one thing I don't care for too much about this bar is they do allow the smoking inside. Â I smoke socially but still prefer to not do the second hand thing. Â
They do have great drink specials here and you can get your fill of beer and definitely not spend over $30. Â That was my bill with tip and I think we ordered 8 or 9 beers. Â
I will say that it seems to be an older more mature crowd here which I think is why I like it as well, plus it off the path of Waikiki. Â If you are in the area it is near Wailana Coffee house and worth the stop, especially on a Saturday night.
The Rose is one of my favorite places to hang out at since I've been living in Honolulu. Initially, I was looking to Chinatown for the cool spots, but realized one doesn't have to go very far for a good time. The Rose is a great, in-your-back-yard, neighborhood bar. Great staff, great music almost every night of the week, awesome dance floor, no cover, no lines, and great drink specials. Check out house band Elephant on Saturday nights! The folks that hang out here are super friendly. You won't find the pretentious hipster crowd here. Expect honest, real people just wanting to relax, and have a good time. People here will treat you like family. If you go often enough, you'll learn about all the cool things that the Rose does for charity, like trike races to help raise money for the Blood Bank of Hawaii!
I think the only, single drawback I can think of is the smoking inside. As cool as that may be for the smokers, it does drive the non-smokers away. May I suggest making a nice outside patio for the smokers upstairs or downstairs? I'm just saying. My two cents. Personally, I will continue to hang out here. It's not a huge deal for ME, just unfortunate when I want to share the live music with friends, but they won't go because of the second-hand. This is totally understandable.
Anyways, smoker or not, just check it out one Saturday night! You'll have fun.
I used to live near Ena Road so would always see the lines of people going into the Irish Rose. After a very bad experience at the near-by Snappers, our group of friends decided to head to the Irish Rose. The bouncer was friendly. Good start!
We headed up the stairs and I was surprised, shocked? to see and smell smoke..cigarette smoke. Cool! Some of our group are smokers so this was very cool. Smoke on! This is what a bar should be.
The waitresses never reached our little table in the back but it was okay. We got our drinks at the bar (they made a very good ketel one vodka and cranberry) and sat back to enjoy the live band. I forgot their name but they were really good. I mean, REALLY good. They played reggae then switched to local Hawaiian kine songs then switched to rock and back again. Great music! Very cheery, happy atmosphere. The place was clean, bathrooms were decent. I like the "Lass" and "Lads" on the doors although one of the "Lad's" in our party didn't know what that meant and walked into the "Lass's" bathroom. Lots of shrieking and get the f-- out's were heard. But yeah. Good times, good times.
I remember going to the 'old Irish Rose' on the 'old Lewers st.' back in the day. (with Da Waipuka bar out back!) So many fun times i had at both those places!! Ahhh the good ole days. lol Â
Then one day the sad announcement was made that had been rumored for a while; The Rose was closing so they could do construction on  Lewers Street, (they were gonna try to class the street up! ...what!?! .....Nooooooo!!)  .......But then, another announcement,,,, they would build a new Irish Rose!!! Yay!  ...But would the new Rose be any fun? Would they still have rockin live music? Would they still never charge a cover? Would the beer still be cheap and cold????  Well yes, yes, yes, and YES!
It was a great place to go see live local bands back then and it still is today at there Ena road location. Just enough on the edge of Waikiki that the tourist don't stumble upon it (except the cool ones who read Yelp reviews!)
Darts, pool tables, shuffleboard, cheerful staff, huge dance floor and live rock and roll every night.  What more do you need!
Granted, it will never be the same as the original place. (what bar ever is)  But this location has been open a few years now, and has proved to me that the Irish Rose is a fun time no matter which street it is on. I love this 'New Rose'  in its own special way!! = )
I'm not a fan of smoking but I do love freedom and despite Hawaii's ban on smoking indoors, Irish Rose let's their patrons light up.
They also support Hawaii's musicians with live performances from various rock and blues bands in Honolulu. Â They have a very large bar that is very accessible and I never find myself waiting long for a drink.
Came here a few months ago with some friends after not coming in about three years when it was named "Pink Cadillac". The place seemed like it had a better sound system and they had a cover band playing okay but sometimes funny covers (I cracked up when they started play "talking in your sleep" by The Romantics). The place has that same laid back vibe from before and the drinks are reasonably priced for being in Waikiki. But it clearly lost the charm from its Pink Caddy days.
But I will never like this place as much as I did when it was Pink Caddy. Back on those days you could see a real grassroots local rock/metal movement. Many local metal bands like The Miltons, Stoic, Lushion, Green Eyes, and many others had their first gigs and many others at this place. And that's how I will always remember this place, a place where local bands rocked the house, and you could chill drinking beer and smoke hookah.
I'll be visiting this place again if local metal bands that play original material start to score gigs here. Or if I'm cruising Waikiki and want to just chill and have a few beers and listen to some god aweful cover band.
If you enjoy good Alternative music, this is your spot! Irish Rose took me back in the days when I was jammin' with Bush, Metallica, Everclear, Nirvana, and the list goes on... The price is reasonable and the service is outstanding!!! Dress code, what dress code? Be yourself is what this place requires!
