I can see what the hype is all about! For non-Birmingham natives like me, it was a challenge to find and decided I was going to drive on whatever one-way street I wanted to until I found sufficient parking for this place. Luckily, the barriers that keep you from finding this place are worth it. Once you're inside, look for a place to sit and apparently someone notices you by then and asks you what you like.
If this is your first and only time here, I'd go straight for their beer sampler. $12 gets you 4 different types of beer to try and always leave 1 or 2 for your waiter to pick for you to surprise you. They weren't lying when they said that J Clyde has one of the best beer menus in Birmingham because it basically looks like an essay.
As for food, do not leave this place without trying the fried sauerkraut balls. My boyfriend hates sauerkraut so this appetizer was a very delightful surprise and we ended up fighting over the last piece. You will taste some of the sour cabbage flavor but the meat and the cheese balanced it wonderfully.
The chicken tenders were great. They aren't the best I ever had, but they leave you satisfied. Their fries are thick and floppy so you don't feel gimped out.
I'd definitely come back here again in a heartbeat. There's just too many places to try right now!
