Came here for dinner and got a few tapas to split with my friend... I ordered the lasagna and the artichoke dip.. both were delicious. The lasagna was baked well, not dry, and consisted of meat sauce, mushroom, pasta and cheese and I really enjoyed it considering I love all those components. The artichoke dip has to be one of the best ones I've had... it was not greasy nor was it bland and the flavors of the cheese were delicious... I also tried my friend's lettuce wraps with chicken.. it didn't look very appetizing, but the sauce they provided on the side was what made it.. pretty good I must say. As for the ambiance, it was amazing.. there was a very talented live band playing a fusion of what seemed like spanish/middle-eastern music and I must say... they were amazing! Overall, I had a nice experience here considering my friend and I were hungry and looking for a decent place to grab a bite after 10 pm.
Review Source:Let me say, this place is as legit as it gets!
I've had several of their martinis, the green apple being my favorite so far. I sit at the bar itself when I go. The staff is great and knowledgeable. My husband and I had the bruschetta appetizer once which was very tasty.
Both times we've been there's been live Jazz music which was very pleasant!
Can't wait to go again!
Did not love the decor or the tables, but the food was solid. Â Lasagna, beef skewer, lettuce wrap tacos and artichoke dip. Â I'd get a whole tray of the lasagna and serve it to the family. Â
Server was excited to be there and share info about the menu. Â Live music was a huge bonus on the Friday night that we stopped by. Â
The portion sizes are good for tapas style. Â You're probably good ordering 2 per person for something that would constitute a meal for most. Â We had four and needed to take a brown bad home.
Went there with a girlfriend after work. The place was empty. As we were there a few tourists trickled in.
I ordered a glass of wine. Sipped it a few times and finally concluded there was NO way I could finish it- it was just plain rancid. When the waiter can to check in, I told him about the wine. He said he would have to charge me- I didn't care it was so sour. He said it was a brand new bottle and would have to charge... I was ticked he wasn't apologetic or anything. It wasn't that I just didn't like the wine, it must have been bad.
He returned a few minutes later to tell me the bartenders agreed the wine was "off" - still no apology and now my stomach was getting upset.
I ordered a different wine. It was so so. Of course he recommended the most expensive and it was just a marginal young and acidic red.
My friend got the sangria. Despite my dislike for gin it was good. Don't expect a typical sangria- this is really just a fruity mixed drink.
We ordered: the paella, empanadas and stuffed mushrooms.
Paella wasn't spectacular but tasted pretty good.
Empanadas were flaky and served with a sour cream based dip. A little spicy, but I'm a spice wimp. I could have eaten 10 because they were so fab. As it was, there were 3 total and we split them even. This was the best of our 3 dishes.
The mushrooms were terrible and tasted like bath water. Never again.
Service was marginal. Food was average.
As an aside: I am obsessed with the flooring material by the bar. So soft for heels and you don't slide!
Jazz'd for me wins for bariatric patients in Savannah. A great meal in great portions not to overwhelming and a great atmosphere. Overall 5 stars from me. Shannon our waitress was on point and super friendly and helpful. My wife and I had a great 9th anniversary at this Tapas Restaurant.
Review Source:Meh.
Tapas is one of those "in vogue" cuisines that a lot of places do, but few places do it well. And sadly, Jazz'd was not that jazzed.
My wife and I both agreed that the dishes were OK, but everything felt 'bland' on the flavor scale. It was a bit like they didn't want to take any chances by really spicing things up, and instead opted to keep everything "mild". For foodies like us, this was tantamount to taste bud boredom.
The place was packed, and this tells me that they're catering to their niche well and probably not motivated to change. I don't think I'd go back for that reason.
The key lime martini was SOOO smooth and creamy! Â We had a total of 4 in our group of 3. Â The Espresso martini was great too. Â The martinis aren't cheap, but they are amazing!
I love that Jazz'd has live music, which is brought us in. Â What will keep me coming back is the great martinis and great service.
I can't even tell you how amazing this place is. I went with a group of 3 and each of us had 3 dishes. My bill came to around 28$. We all tried all of our dishes and no lie i think that was a perfect way to go. They were all small dishes which made it perfect to go afterwards for drinks because we weren't overly stuffed.
Fav Plates:
- Tuna with sesame seeds (light and delicious)
- Â Flank steak Yakitori (in a sweet citrus sauce)
- Mushrooms with chorizo (baked to perfection)
- Bruschetta ( very fresh tomatoes with balsamic glaze)
- Baked Cheeses ( roasted garlic, grapes and green apples)
2 stars = Did not meet my expectations
We stopped by here on Sunday night for a drink before our dinner reservations at another restaurant later that night. Â The bartender was friendly and made an exceptional vodka martini. Â We decided to come back the following night to have dinner.
We ordered the tapas for 2. Â Of the two salads one was not well dressed and the other was too dressed. Â I ordered the potato fritada and the lamb chops. Â The fritada was great. Â The lamb was the chewiest I have ever eaten. Â My wife ordered a shrimp and grits dish and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Â The beef tips sauteed in a blue cheese type sauce was pretty good too.
I struggled with making this a 2 instead of a 3 but in light of the high expectations I had prior and the price of the food, I did leave disappointed. Â It would be worth a second visit in order to give them a second chance.
Birthday Eve dinner at Jazz'd was great! We loved the atmosphere in a renovated basement space. It was open, yet still intimate for our romantic dinner. We were seated fairly close to the guy providing live music for the night. He was very good. Our server was especially friendly, and we liked that she stopped what she was doing to clap for the musician to show support and get diners involved.
The chorizo empanadas were big and well-flavored, a good choice to get something filling on the table. We also had some shrimp and scallop skewers, which were very good. The Cuban rubbed beef satays ... we wished we'd had more. The sesame tuna was average.
The bar area looked like it would be fun for a more casual evening out. The location is very convenient in the historic district and a short walk to lots of other bars and entertainment options.
As a tourist visiting Savannah for the 1st time, I'm disappointed that I even suggested to my friends that we have dinner here. I'm shocked that this place has 4 stars??!! Â And what was most disappointing and spoiled my appetite were the whiffs of smelly cheese at every turn. Â There was seriously no escaping the stench.
On to the dishes:
We got the "Tapas for Two" for $60 option, which came with choice of soup/salad, 4 tapas to share, beverage, and dessert...which sounds like a deal, but is seriously not. We chose the scallops (the only decent plate of the night), beef satay (supposedly this is a popular dish, but was majorly lacking in flavor with no trace of peanut or ginger), and got two of the seafood paella (pretty standard and lacked seasoning). Â I got the chocolate fudge cake for dessert, which was VERY rich and heavy. Â My friends tried other tapas, which I don't recall, but I do remember that each dish was covered with layers of cheese!
The only salvageable part of this restaurant (hence, two stars) was the laid-back, cool, hipster ambience with unique colorful paintings and lighting, in addition to the live music (the musician playing that night was wonderful). Â Our waitress was also very attentive despite this place getting busy after 8pm. Â I'm sure this place is awesome for happy hour, but unfortunately my dinner experience suffered from the cheesy, subpar food.
Still not sure what we spent $60 on when we ordered the tapas for two option on the menu. Four tapas of our choice came out and they were very mediocre. The recipes/preparation/flavor had nothing to do w/ Spanish tapas whatsoever...the food at Jazz'd is very American and not overly good American. Overall I felt that I could have made a much better meal at home myself w/ very little effort. They took lackluster ingredients and smothered everything in a thick coat of cheese - not for flavor enhancement, but, to smother/cover. Some of the dishes didn't make any sense - the leek/potatoe frittata was swimming in some sort of munster or mild mozzarella melt and then they served it with a huge wedge of cream cheese (the kind you put on bagles). This made no sense - I have no idea what they wanted me to do w/ that cream cheese. The dish was supposed to be served w/ fig chutney but there was no fig chutney avail. to cut through the overwhelming flavors of all that cheese. Instead, there was a couple bits of cubed dried fig w/ very little flavor. Every dish came w/ lots of garlic bread too - it seemed as if they were covering up for lack of quality ingredients (sparse meat and few vegetables) w/ all that garlic bread.
Again, we spent $60 and this was on four mediocre tapas + soup or salad + dessert (each option was too sickly sweet). We didn't even have wine/cocktails.
Service was fair/average, ambience was fair/good (nice live music), but, overall, I wouldn't return. There's so many really good restaurants here in Savannah and Jazz'd really isn't one of them.
Awesome atmosphere to listen to live music. Â Order several tapas to share. Â The escargot was awesome but the calamari was a bit oily at the bottom of the dish. Â This place is trendy, modern, and hip. Â They have beer but I had the impression this is more of a wine and martini place. Â Great location in the heart of downtown.
Review Source:I don't know how it took me so very long to get around to reviewing Jazz'd, which has long been more or less a go-to favorite of mine in Savannah. Mind you, I say this as someone who lived in Savannah a number of years in the 2000s and not just a tourist, either. The atmosphere--in what I believe was the cafeteria of an old Kress department store before Jazz'd renovated this basement space--is lovely, romantic, and engaging. The bar itself is very well-designed and a fun place to sit even for a meal if alone or there's just two of you. Locals do this all the time: if there's a wait for tables, see if they can take you at the bar. Trae Gurley sings Sinatra's songbook on Thursdays and he's worth hearing if you like old standards; seriously, this guy is top-notch.
Dishes I like:
--the chorizo empanadas
--the black bean soup
--the baked cheese terra-cotta plate
--the pork loin back ribs
Dishes I don't care for:
--the seafood paella (too small, seafood often kinda tough)
--the chicken lettuce wraps (it seems like a knock-off of something P.F. Chang's would do and isn't as good, either)
Keep in mind that with something like the paella, this may have been a one-time issue. Any restaurant can get something over-done. Anyone can. That includes the likes of Le Cinq, even.
Those empanadas are decently-sized and rather filling. They're a good choice to round out plates of tapas that are less-filling so you don't leave hungry. Things like the lamb or the stuffed flounder are too small in serving size to warrant getting honestly: these dishes would serve better as full-scale dishes as they are in most places prepared. They are just not ideal for tapas type service.
The desserts are ok but nothing great. I'd go elsewhere for dessert most of the time or just have a couple drinks, my favorites being their mojitos and the lemon wheel martini. While the menu has changed a little over the years, what's on it now is more or less how it was back in 2006. My beloved chicken wings with their awesome special sauce seem to only be a now and then special whereas they used to be a menu staple, but otherwise not many changes. You can read that two ways: what they're doing has worked nearly a decade now, which is great but is it innovative? Not so much. Not anymore. Still, overall it's good and the service is always great. Like, they seriously try to please and even though it gets very busy they stay on top of things.
It gets loud here. If you don't like "loud", come early and even if you're with your wife, say it's a business dinner and ask to be seated somewhere quiet and they'll do their best.
Overall a great dining experience in Savannah. Open seven days a week which is really cool, too.
My parents came to visit my husband and I in Savannah and we hit a total of 7 or 8 bars for drinks and appetizers over 2 nights. Jazz'd was definitely my favorite! We arrived on Friday around 9 and it wasn't too crowded yet. We decided to sit at the bar-what a great atmosphere! Live jazz music, lights dim, but not too dark. We'll definitely go back for a date night in the near future. Our bartender was wonderful. He made suggestions on the menu, kept our drinks full and our section of the bar clean and tidy.
We ordered the Baked Cheese Terra Cotta Plate, Chorizo stuffed Mushrooms, and the Lamb Chops-the chops were the most tender I'd ever had and the cheese plate was to die for! Mushrooms were delish too.
Can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu!
The atmosphere was nice, and the service was good. The food was bland, and lacking creativity. My wife and I shared the Tapas for Two meal, which came with soup or salad, two tapas apiece and two deserts. Nothing was awful, but nothing was great either. The steak was under seasoned, the creme brûlée was tasteless, and the crap soup lacked any crab and came out lukewarm. The highlight, and I use that term loosely, was the seafood paella.
Review Source:Here's the good news. Â The food here is good. Â Everything we ordered by top notch.
The bad news is that the place only takes reservations for "large" groups. Â Also, that seems to be what they do -- cater to and serve large groups. Â Since we (the two of us) could not make a reservation, we were told a "30 to 40 minute wait." Â After an hour, and only because we became vocal about not being seated, we were given a table. Â
Here's the real problem. Â The hostess knows what delays to expect. Â Only give an estimate on the high side, i.e. tell a customer it will be an hour and make sure it's less than an hour. Â It's unconscionable to have a customer wait twice as long as you're told. Â It's simply bad management, and, as a consequence, we would never return. Â Food cannot make up for terrible front-end service.
Simple solution for Jazz'd ... take reservations.
We got to Jazz'd for a dinner around 6 p.m.; the restaurant was fairly empty, and the host stand was deserted. Â We waited for a few minutes before a couple of staff came to greet us and then started whispering to each other about how the rest of the staff needed to stop standing around outside smoking and start working. Â Awkward. Â Our server started out great, but as the restaurant and bar began to fill up, it seemed as though he was overwhelmed, and there didn't seem to be enough servers to handle the volume. Â Among the four of us, we ordered quite a few tapas: the baked cheese terracotta plate, which we ordered on a whim, was to die for, as was the martini marinated tenderloin tips! Â Oddly enough, the cuban rubbed beef satays I was SO excited about were just okay. Â By the time we left, the place was packed.
Review Source:We've actually dined at Jazz'd back in 2008 and always have remembered having a great meal there. Â So this past weekend, when trying to figure out where to have a late dinner (after a carriage ride tour), we decided to revisit Jazz'd. Â We weren't disappointed. Â It was around 9 PM and 4 of us in the party. Â We were seated immediately. Â The place was pretty packed with live music playing. Â The atmosphere was great.
We tried 8 tapas total. Â My favorites were the prosciutto wrapped scallops, the pork chops, and their special, German pot roast. Â We also tried several cocktail drinks, I especially like the mango mojito. Â Overall, we had a great time. Â The music was not overly loud so that we can still chit chat while enjoying the music. Â The food was yummy... I am sure the next time we go to Savannah, it would be likely that we'll revisit Jazz'd.
Jazz'd Tapas is a throwback to a much earlier time....a basement location, a guy playing and singing old jazz favorites in a fairly open room with a woman at the bar loosened up and yelling for oldies from the 40's when she was a teenager......made the place seem like you were in a movie classic.
Then they brought the menu with 2 pages of tapas from many cuisines and warned us that 2 tapas each would be plenty since the plates were not really small. Unusual to have your server warn you not to order too much.
The food was just great, fit the atmosphere perfectly and we left satisfied with food and loved the overall experience, So don't be afraid to head down the stairs and if you squint you might see Bogey at the bar.
Went here the other night to hear my neighbor play the sax. The atmosphere is smooth and the cool like a hole in the wall you'd find in Norleans.
The service was fast and friendly and the drinks were a solid pour; the kind that make you start swaying to the musica de la noche. The food was good and full of flavor, making me want to come back for more.
Plenty of seating and even if you have to wait, you'll have a good time listening to the music and drinking a beverage of choice.
First tapas bar for my wife and I, and boy did we choose right! Â This place is just awesome to say the least. Â The coctails are flowing, live music to enjoy, and with a first-rate menu. Â We went for the Tapas for Two selection which provides for 2ea soup/salad, and 4 tapas to share plus 2 desserts. Â Lets just say that we we absolutely stuffed before we left; completely satisfied. Â Unfortunately the do not take reservations for parties of 2, so come early b/c there can be a lengthy wait. Â But hey, more time to enjoy some coctails and enjoy the atmosphere and music.
Cheers!
We only had drinks and appetizers, but we were both impressed. Â I love crab cakes but unfortunately have had more bad ones than I care to remember. Â These were spot on - luscious with crab and not much else, nicely seasoned, pan-fried to a golden brown and served with a lovely remoulade sauce. Â BF had the shrimp fritters and I think I caught him about to lick his plate - lol.
The music was not much to write home about the night we visited, but it was great to find a place right in town with live music and decent food. Â We'd both recommend this as a stop while in Savannah!
One of the better spots in Savannah.
Jazz'd is a little on the pricey side for what it's worth, but you don't need to order that much. Â Supposedly, this is a tapas place, but most of them are entree size if you are a reasonable eater. Â
The drinks were average...and the music was cheesy the night we went. Â
Decent date night spot.
Nice music, very disappointing food.
We had the black bean soup (sent it back due to being inedibly over seasoned) replaced by the five onion soup.
The caprese was actually good, not awesome but I've had worse.
Seafood paella = seafood rice a roni
sesame tuna - not bad, cooked
stuffed flounder - boring
beef shoulder tender - the waiter told us this is his favorite thing in the world. Â This was the last to arrive so maybe I had already formed a negative opinion of the food, but I really wasn't impressed other than the
potatoes au gratin under the beef.
I would go back to hang out but not to eat
I've been waffling between 2 and 3 stars for this. Two feels too harsh; 3 feels too generous. We're vacationing in Savannah and have enjoyed fantastic meals at Sapphire Grill and Local 11 Ten. Jazz'd was half as good as either of those places.
Our waitress here was nice, and we enjoyed the live music. The food wasn't bad. It just wasn't great. It also wasn't tapas. I don't think there was a single thing on the menu that I'd ever seen in a tapas bar in Spain (save the potato omelet). Just know this before you go there.
We had the chorizo empanadas, which were actually stuffed with a spicy, flavorful shredded meat, not chorizo. This was not a bad thing: they really did a good job with this filling. I'd be happy eating a plate of it. The empanadas were plated atop the most sad piece of lettuce ever--bruised, torn, ugly. Whoever plated the dish should've used a bit of discretion and ditched that thing! The empanadas would've looked much better on a nakeddis, and I'm not one who cares much about presentation.
The lamb chops were tender and flavorful, but as someone already commented, they had some kind of weird topping, like fried leeks gone wrong. Their caper tomato sauce was fine, but I think I might've drizzled a mint chimichurri over them and stopped there. Definitely need to ditch the weird topping.
The espresso scallops (a special of the evening) came with a rich cream sauce that definitely needed some bread for dipping. They charge for bread (??), and it was that crappy Wonder Bread-style fake French bread that's soft. Ugh. It was served with olive oil, parmesan, and black pepper. Exactly the same as the what they served with the (free) bread at Sapphire, only COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Sapphire's oil and cheese combo tasted decadent, insanely good. The bread was homemade, filled with flavor, crunchy. At Jazz'd, it was hard Sysco-shredded parmesan. For $5.50 bread. Can Sysco just please go away? There's gotta be someone in town who can bake you guys some decent bread. Keep it in the freezer and pop it in the toaster--it'll be great!
It's the details that make the difference. I'm glad we ate here once. If we lived here, we might go back. As tourists, we won't.
After many failed attempts at good food and atmosphere here in Savannah I definitely didn't expect this place to be what it was. The atmosphere was completely unexpected as you walk down the stairs and into a basement type area. A fun (a little wacky 1990's style) place as if you were going back in time to some underground jazz club.
The food was really good although I wouldn't call it Tapas as the portions are pretty big. They have great prices and specials like a 4 course meal for 2 = $60. The drinks were delicious as well. Check it out!
Hi, I'm 1990 and I want my decor back. Not say the decor makes or break a place but it was just odd considering the way the try to market the place. Â Food was just eehhh...
Shrimp with grits-yes
Stuffed mushrooms-no
Paella-Seafood was good but rice was bad-no
Lambchops-Chops were good but came with shreds of green onion that were over grilled that made them look and taste like blades of dead summer grass-maybe
French onion soup-yes
The place isn't bad but don't go out of your way to try it.
Sometimes you just get the itch for eclectic jazz music in a basement lounge adorned with track lighting and industrial metal flare....ok you probably don't, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it! Â
I stumbled across the Jazz'd Tapas Bar during a busy Labor Day weekend and found it pleasantly crowded but not packed. Â The wave shaped bar was intriguing and the chairs were spaced far enough apart that people coming up just to order drinks didn't have to lean over other patrons to receive their drinks.
The bartender mixed me one of the best mojitos I've had in the south - secretly adding a splash of sprite to bridge the gap between the simple syrup and club soda. Â The liquor lineup is truly impressive, featuring a wide spectrum of all the major families - they even have Johnny Walker Blue for the whisky drinkers with expensive taste.
The hummus was above standard and their special for the evening, pan fried scallops in cornmeal, took the traditional dish to a new level with its tomato soubise and alfalfa sprouts -- Â a truly satisfying dish but a bit pricey for the single traveler. Â If you're with an even number of people I'd recommend ordering the Tapas for Two at the bottom of the menu which gets you the most for your green.
Loved it. A date night classic. The ambience, the service, the music, the food and most of all the drinks. Â
A more mature crowd was in attendance on the night we went, much to our delight. Â
**Getting a table would have taken about an hour so we sat at the bar. Â It felt nice to go out, sit at a bar, have a good drink and some fantastic food without the pushing, shoving and bar-fighting breaking out which is typical for a lot of these Savannah haunts. Â
The place is very clean, very modern and you can dress up or down without feeling like a fish out of water.
The music was live but not overwhelming so I could still have a little witty repartee with my date. Â
The drinks are a bit pricey but it is stiff enough that I didn't mind. Â
The highlight of the night was that crab cake which is on my top three ever. Â If you have seen "once upon a time in Mexico" you know, Johnny Deep shoots the cook because the dish was too GOOD. That is how I felt about my crab cake. That good. Â I have to say I will be back, if only to check on the consistency of that magical crab cake.
I love topless bars, I mean tapas (tah-pahs) bars.
We were visiting Savannah and saw Jazz'd in ads, walking down the street, so...we decided this would be a good place to have our friends meet up with us.
It turned out just perfect. Â Good food, good wine, good tapas, good live music, and great company.
There were four of us and each couple got the "Tapas for Two" deal, 60 bucks include soup or salad, 4 tapas, dessert and soft drink/coffee. Â Such a deal.
The Menu was fabulous and unfortunately, we couldn't taste everything on the list. Â Guess we will just have to come back soooon, but not soon enough.
Hubbie and I ordered:
Soup:
He - Black bean soup
Me - Five Onion Soup - Better than French onion! Â This one has 5 different onions, french baguette, Gruyere and Asiago cheese. Â YUM
Tapas:
Cuban rubbed beef satay - 4 skewers! Â Now that is more that tapas. Â Pretty big portion. Â It was seasoned very nicely. Â a bit of spice, tender beef. Â Lovely.
Chorizo stuffed Mushrooms - stuffed with smokey chorizo, spinach, goat cheese, leeks and topped with provolone, oven baked. Â Juicy and full of flavors. Â
Seafood Paella - Â a medley of shrimp, Prince Edward mussels, chorizo, simmered in white wine and saffron sauce - very lite and fluffy, yet filling. Â
Garlic and Basil Shrimp n' Grits - Grilled shrimp on a bed of creamy stone ground grits with tomato bouillabaisse. Â
Drinkie Drink:
Penfolds Thomas Hyland Syrah - full flavors of juicy red plums, dark berry and chocolate.
Dessert:
Creme Brulee and Bread Pudding - both were excellent. Â HUGE portions, again...
Service - Impeccable. Â Wonderful. Â Flawless.
Live Music - Best I have heard in a long time. Eddie Wilson, pianist/singer. He jazzed up "sweet child of mine". He did good. http://www.onstagemusic.…
We were very full and happy by the end of the nite...
Fun, funky, downstairs Savannah Jazz "joint"
Dark, hip decor. I have only sat at the bar to order drinks and tapas.
Drinks are always good. Excellent Mojitos and Sangria.
Good bartender.
The tapas...I have had better.
Not bad, but none are mind blowing.
Great place for a romantic date for drinks & snuggles, or for a Girl's Night Out.
