I like Johnny's Tavern. It is great for large groups, but can be pretty noisy. Standard pub fare, though the pizzas are what you should come for! The barbeque chicken pizza is really good!

I came here once while they were having a crawfish boil special. They were dry and disgusting! I know that Lawrence isn't the place for crawfish (like say Louisiana - YUM!!!), so I can't knock them toooo much, but still, they were pretty bad.

If you come here, come here for the pizza and beer.

Johnny's (all of them) are regular haunts for us. The one in Lawrence especially is an institution. On this particular occasion the Hubs & I were out for a motorcycle ride with a friend and stopped in.  We were greeted warmly by the owner (also an institution!) and seated. He took our drink orders and went in search of sweetener for my friend's tea but apparently got distracted because he never made it back.

A server popped by and took an app order and brought the requested sweetener.  Still another server took our entree order and the remainer of our service was with her.  She was very sweet but a little forgettful (a couple of items had to be requested twice).

The food is predictably good although the Lawrence Johnny's doesn't serve the fish & chips with the hush puppies the other locations do (disappointing!). The service is a little uneven but it's so friendly and the food is so good you tend to overlook it

The local Lawrence writers have become something of regulars at Johnny's (and Johnny's West), and while I have nothing against either of these places I can't rave about them either.

The burgers and other menu items are typical bar fare. It's good, possibly better than average. But nothing about the food stands out. The Popper Burger (with Jalapeño chipotle cream) is probably the best burger on their menu.

As a hangout, it's pretty good but can get a little too loud for conversation (especially on the weekends). If you're looking for a place to hang out with friends, though, you can do far worse.

We've been to Johnny's a couple of times, both on the weekend for a late lunch.  Neither time was there a huge crowd, and our waitress was attentive and friendly.

Johnny's pizzas are large and have a thin crust with fold-able slices.  We ordered the Bambino pizza both times.  The Bambino is basically a supreme pizza with a meat topping of your choice.  The toppings were fresh, and there was a nice sprinkling of Italian seasoning on top that accented the flavor well.  The veggies still had a bit of a crunch, which was nice.  Their pizzas are easily enough for 2-4 people, depending on their appetite.

Johnny's usually has some sort of drink special.  The only drink I've had there, other than beer, was a bloody mary, which was pretty basic.

I'd love to try some of Johnny's other food offerings, as their menu has some interesting apps and sandwiches.  It will be hard, though, with the yummy pizza being an option!

Ate at Johhny's for the second time last week, with so many great bars and restaurants in Lawrence, I won't be back.  Ever.

Arrived around 6pm to a locked front door - hmmm? but the place was 1/2 full.  Someone unlocked the door for us newbies and we found a booth.  I guess everyone uses the back entrance.

Waited 10 minutes, and just before we got up to leave, a server stopped by.  Pretty late to the table, but she actually ended up being really accommodating and sweet.  Ordered a draft, keg was dry, ordered another draft, another dry keg.  Finally settled on a third choice - and they had it!

For the meal.  Ordered a slice of Italian pie & the nachos. The slice came out first: large, thin, slightly crispy.  And slightly pricy at $4.99.  Reminded me of a Totino's freezer pizza, but in a good way.  Decent, but it was sprinkled with dry herbs - not a fan, they always taste a bit dusty.

Then came the nachos.  Oh what a crying shame.  How can you make bad nachos?  THE GOOD: nice thin chips, good salsa, topped with fresh tomato & green onion. THE BAD: too light on the sour cream, jalapenos were from a tin can, and the brownish-colored "cheese" tasted like bland flour gravy instead of melty cheese - THIS coming from two people that actually really love the fake creamy nacho cheese served at basketball games.

    Oh Johnny's...

From dinners to parties to just hanging out, Johnny's delivers on all fronts. I spent countless hours there during college and can't even guess how many of their delicious burgers I've demolished. Or beers. Or appetizers.

When I think about restaurants that are emblematic of Lawrence, Johnny's is unquestionably top 3.

Freshmen: you want to eat here. And drink their beer. Trust me.

not sure what to say about this place. i was looking for a working man's bar and this sort of fits the ticket. the atmosphere is nice, sports-barish and college-ish which is okay because this is a college town with great sports teams. the menu is standard sports bar fare. didn't try any food, but it did smell good coming out of the kitchen. folks were nice and willing to talk. i guess i was looking for more of a dive, but now having been there i'd go back.

The buffalo wings were perfectly spicy; it tingled your nose to smell them when the waitress put them on the table.  I also thought the nachos were outstanding -- loaded up but very few soggy chips.

Oh Johnny's!  Many a night in college was spent just north of the bridge at Johnny's Tavern.  I still frequent the bar during rugby season as my husband is on the club team.

Johnny's is a great bar and restaurant.  The staff is very friendly and will do whatever they can to make your visit a great one.  Most of the time you can see the owner, Rick, walking around and seeing how everything is going.

Johnny's has plenty of TVs to catch whatever game you are looking for.  Especially if the Jayhawks are playing.  They have two bar rooms and a rent-able upstairs (The Up And Under).  As well as a covered patio for smokers or those who just need some fresh air after some drinks.

There are drink specials just about every night and a variety of menu choices.  The pizza is wonderful, go for the all-meat Nuke LaLoosh if you dare.  The burgers and fries are another delicious combo.

Have fun and challenge a friend to a little Buck Hunter!

An original product or restaurant is hard to beat, and the original Johnny's Tavern lives up to that idea. In my opinion, Johnny's has the best pizza in Lawrence-a pizza town. I suggest trying the Johnny's Favorite with Italian sausage or the BBQ chicken pizza. Although the pizza kitchen is open later than the rest of the kitchen, the other food cannot be ignored. Johnny's has the best nachos in Lawrence. I also suggest trying the classic chicken sandwich and their monster chicken fingers. The atmosphere is typical of most bars, but the service is exceptional every time I go. It's a great place to watch the game too!

Personally, Johnny's has the best pizza in town. You can get pizza by the slice, burgers, and wraps. My favorite pizza is the BBQ Chicken Pizza. They make their own BBQ sauce from scratch. It is so delicious. Also, the atmosphere is unique. It is filled with KU gear. It is a great place to watch the Jayhawks play! They have something on the menu for everyone, and the wait staff is very friendly and outgoing.

On Monday nights they have a pizza/beer deal. The pizza is $5 dollars off, and I believe the pitchers are really inexpensive.

Johnny's is a North Lawrence institution.  Originally a grocery store (don't you wish NODO had one of those now?), the place became a pub that loyal regulars visit without fail.

The place specializes in burgers and pizza.  The burgers run the gamut from the delicious house special Johnny Wilson (bacon, cheddar, and swiss!) to the Goober (with a smear of peanut butter), which some people are said to love.  Whatever burger you might try, I suggest getting the fry/ring combo as your side.  Why choose if you can have both?  The pizza is as close to NY style as you can find in Lawrence, and it's mighty tasty.  Monday night, it's half price.

Every other Wednesday, Johnny's has Cajun night, with a live band and menu specials.  The lot is always packed on those nights, so get there early if you want to partake.

And yes, if you want to watch The Game, Johnny's does have its share of TVs.

This is a solid, homey, unpretentious neighborhood joint.   Check it out.  (You too, people south of the bridge.  Come on, it takes only seconds to cross it.  It won't bite, honest.)
