I have been going to Jordan's for a few years now and the place has recently gone WAY down hill. When it first opened, I really liked the place - the atmosphere and daily specials are great. I loved the food - pizza, appetizers, entrees were all good. However the dining room and bar are quite dirty and the food quality has gotten to a level where I'm almost afraid to eat there... A week ago, I went in with my husband and daughter for brunch, and my mimosa honestly smelled like the OJ had been sitting out for 5 days. Â All of our food is
The positive thing is the service is always pretty good.
I love neighborhood restaurants and try to support as many as I can, (because we eat out a lot) however this one is off the list. The place needs a SERIOUS cleaning from top to bottom.
Just moved in across the street. I've only been in once, but from what I can tell it is exactly what I would hope for in the bar across the street.
A conversation struck up between the three people I was with and two guys sitting at a table doing homework, the question of whether it was happy hour or not came up and the guys said it was ALWAYS happy hour. Perfect.
The drink deals are amazing, it's a good place to go grab a drink if you actually want to be able to have a conversation with the people your with, and the food seems to be okay. I only had the pizza (which was very good) but one of the guys had a shepherds pie that looked pretty good. Also, the waiter we had was pretty great. I don't have a bad thing to say about the place.
I have to say that I am really surprised by all the good reviews of this place. I have NEVER had a good experience here, and the only reason I go back is for trivia night, and even that isn't that good.
Let's get down to specifics, shall we?
The first time I went here, my food was so bad that I became vegetarian for a month after. I ordered some kind of chicken sandwich that included avocado, bacon, and ranch. Delicious, right? WRONG. It literally tasted like it had been made a few hours prior and then left to sit out for awhile. The chicken was bland and rubbery, the bacon was stringy, the avocado black and the ranch had soaked through the bread. I was on a date (it didn't work out), so I didn't really want to send it back, but that didn't make any difference anyway, because we never saw our server again, until we asked for the check  (also, I've worked in the industry, and I know what a bitch it can be, so I try to be nice to servers, even when they suck).
Awhile later, I tried the food again (pizza, this time). Again, terrible. I ended up giving most of it away, and the friends I gave it to didn't really like it.
Another night, our server brought our check before we asked for it, and we had wanted to sit and drink for awhile.
I always just get beer here, and the glasses are usually warm...
The servers are TERRIBLE. They usually act as if they just woke up from a nap, and are annoyed that they have to serve you. They seem to have no sense of what a customer might want
Ex: second or third time there, I'm meeting friends. The server is at the table when I get there. As I'm sitting down, before I've even seen a menu, she says, "can I get you anything?" I say "I'll probably just have a beer." "What kind of beer do you want?" I look at her for a second, to see if, I dunno, she might suggest something. Nope. I say "I don't know, I'll have to look at a menu first. Can you come back in a minute?" She brings my friends drinks, but drops them off and doesn't ask me for my drink order. 10 minutes later, we had to flag her down to order a beer.
Ugh, TL; DR: this place sucks, in every way possible
We came in for lunch and ordered grilled cheese and soup. An hour and a half later, still no food. Our server was very slow getting to our table with drinks as well. Finally our food arrived and it definitely seemed like it had been sitting awhile. She said they only had one chef-would have been useful to know upfront, although I'm fairly certain that wasn't the reason for the delay. Another table that arrived 15 minutes after us got their food 15 minutes before us. Last time we come here.
Review Source:Came in to watch the Avalanche game tonight after recently moving to the area with my husband. On Wednesdays they have an awesome deal of a beer and burger for $10, and usually pub burgers are kind of whatever...but this. Was. Awesome. So delicious and juicy, and the fries were so yummy! Chill atmosphere with an old-fashioned feel. Can't wait to come back!
Review Source:I didn't give it 5 stars only because I haven't tried the food, I was only there for drinks, so this may get updated if their food is as fantastic as the service. I have been a server for many years so I tend to be a little more critical than the average patron and this place made a great impression on me. I wish I remembered the server's name so I could give her a nod here but she was excellent. I was on a date and she knew just when to come by and when to leave us alone. What really impressed me though was when she dropped the check after running my card she said "please feel free to stay as long as you want." That is unprecedented! We weren't the only table in there at 1am on a Tuesday night but there was only one other. As a former server I know how grumpy servers get about their last table leaving so they can go home but the key is to never let the guest see that. This server went above and beyond in my opinion with just that one little phrase. Then on top of that as we were leaving the bartender and another sever both thanked us with smile and wished us a good evening when usually all you get at that time of night is relieved indifference that you are finally leaving. Since it wasn't just our server that made us feel welcome and appreciated I suspect there is good management and training behind this. In the world of pubs with all the same food and beer it is up to your service standards to separate yourself from the competition, Jordan's knows this and is doing an excellent job. I look forward to my next visit.
Review Source:I really like the food and pub atmosphere here. I wish they had a lunch menu, though.
The thing that kept me from giving it a 4 or a 5 is the service. I came once for dinner and it felt as though the server was doing us the favor of helping us. He spent more time at the host stand chatting with some guy about who knows what than checking on us, and we were at the high top tables right next to him. I think they need better training for their staff. I went again for lunch with a group and the waitress didn't really seem to know what she was doing. For a group of 7 we were only given 3 menus. She made numerous mistakes despite seeming to have written down our orders. It just takes too long to get served to come here at lunch.
Otherwise, I really like the food. The bangers and mash is a bit salty, but tasty anyways. The pizzas are really good as well as the chicken chopped salad.
I love this place. Â MY roomates and I probably come here at least once a week. The staff is friendly and the food is good. Â Not to mention, they are a sponsor for the DU rugby team and have always been generous in providing lunches after home games. Â
The menu is diverse and offers lots of different options. Â They have an awesome Reuben. Â There buffalo chicken pizza and their BBQ chicken pizza are both amazing. Â They also have a good BBQ chicken quesadilla. There french onion soup isn't my favorite but their potato leek soup is dynamite!!!!! My all time favorite Jordan's meal has to be their blue cheese burger. Its huge, its served on ciabatta, and I can't live without out it.... only on special occasions of course.
They also have a full bar with lots of my favorite brewski's on tap. Â This includes Stella, and white rascal, and they usually have a seasonal for pour.
If you go in and want to get the party started.... just order a "yummy" shot and you will end up loving this place as much as I do.
#609 I live a minutes' walk away from Jordan's but I've only been here a handful of times since the start of the semester. Why? Because I don't like the vibe and some of the waiters are serious b*tches. We all gave it a serious try at the beginning of the year, but on the nights we found ourselves here, so did a certain waitress who gave attitude to everything and everyone around her. Major turn-off. However, disregarding her, I do enjoy the nibbles they have during Happy Hour and their drink prices are comparable to any college bar you might find yourself in. My suggestion for snacks is to stick with plain fries. Their cheesy fries come in a teeny, tiny portion, which is totally not worth it. Their hummus/veggie plate is awesome though; they really heap it on. Overall, I come here for convenience, but if given the choice I'll stick to C&G a block down.
Review Source:Let me start by saying that Jordans is pretty decent. The food is usually about what you would expect for the price you pay. The service in general is below average.  Tonight, however, we were shocked by the terrible service and attitude from our waitress. We walked in and waited for 5 minutes for a host to seat us. When none came we decided maybe we seat ourselves? We proceeded to a table at which point our future waitress said "Don't sit here. This area is full" in an area with many open tables. We went back to the host stand for another few minutes until the bartender informed us that we could in fact sit anywhere we like. We started noticing problems when we asked for water (in addition to our drinks) and did not get any. That is normally fine, just an oversight. Things happen.  It took 20 minutes before we saw her again at which point we asked for water again and ordered a soup. The soup came. No water. We BEGGED for water the third time she came around. She finally came with water when she saw one of the people from our party waiting at the bar for water. The problem at that point was that she brought 2 glasses of water for 4 people to share. By then we had already ordered our main dishes. When all of our food came out we realized that we also only had 2 pairs of silverware to share between 4 people. We did not see the waitress or any server for another 20 minutes at which point we had gone scavenging for silverware at empty tables. By then we had already run out of water and did not receive any more for the entire duration of our stay. I had asked for light dressing or dressing on the side for my salad and my girlfriend had ordered a wedge salad with light dressing. We noticed that while we were ordering our salads that the waitress was literally not even paying attention to what we were saying. When they both came, it seemed as though we had been served lettuce that was sitting in a bowl of dressing and then the dressing was drained out through a strainer. I kid you not, I have never had so much dressing on a piece of lettuce in my entire life. In essence I had dressing with a side of lettuce. If you are on any sort of diet please order the bacon cheeseburger and cut your losses. My girlfriend had ordered the wedge salad which is high in fat and includes blue cheese dressing with bacon, red onion and tomato. Usually when people order a wedge salad they expect to be able to taste the bacon, blue cheese, red onion and tomato. It would have been nice to be able to taste all of those calories except for the fact that the whole salad was absolutely drenched in brown vinegar. Brown vinegar is a good thing to have a little of and a TERRIBLE thing to drink. We couldn't even pretend to eat the salad and had the waitress take it back  Upon complaining about the wedge salad, the waitress said "So... what do you want me to do about it?". She brought us another salad that looked much better, but she had taken the silverware away with the first plate. Round 2 of scavenging for silverware was not as easy as most of the empty tables were clear. By the time we got to sit and try to enjoy the meal, we were literally too upset to even eat. We asked for a box and went home. I think it would be smart to go here if you are just trying to get a couple drinks with friends, or are personal friends with a waiter or waitres. Otherwise, there are tons of places in the area with good food where you receive prompt service on a regular basis.
Review Source:I'm a DU student at the Daniels College of Business. This is our Cohort's go-to hangout spot since it's right across the street and they have good happy hour drink and food specials at 10 pm on weeknights (which coincides well with when class gets out for us). I love the calamari there. It's so good! The brownie sundae isn't bad either when you have a late night sweet tooth.
With all the students who frequent Jordan's, it tends to get somewhat crowded, but nothing like a club downtown. It's pretty reasonable, but get there early or you won't get a table.
Irish bars kick ass. On the whole they have great beer selections, good whisky (Jameson), and above average bar food. The best detail is that the people who prefer these spots tend to be awesome.
Jordan's hits on most of those points, with some exceptions. Jordan's is a bit overpriced compared to some of the other bars in the area, and Denver Irish bars in general. When the place gets packed with MBAs and Law students - the bartenders tend to get orders wrong. I think one night I ordered Smithwick's four times and only got it twice. (The other two beers were tasty, so no reason to complain.)
The food here is good - apps and brunch especially, but does feel overpriced for a college area, even if that college is DU.
The clientele has a very introverted feel. I wouldn't bother visiting during a busy night unless you were bringing or meeting friends. After seven visits, I have never met anyone I didn't already know or wasn't with someone I knew.
Jordan's is the "grad student bar" in the DU area. As a former grad student, I can attest that I always ran into friends at Jordan's.
The beer list is decent, the Scotch and whiskey list is decent, the food is decent, and the atmosphere is decent. The place didn't blow my mind, but I was always content and went regularly.
One major positive note: They seem to hire only attractive waitresses and bartenders.
After class or after work, I liked to head to Jordan's for a Boddingtons and a pizza. It is the best of the DU bars, but for a real night out you have to head downtown.
This was a decent place to eat, the food was good. Â I had the french dip, which was tasty (but the au jus was seriously under flavored), and the fries which were more shoestring style were good, but nothing special. Â The wife had the "Grown Up" Mac and Cheese, which was a tasty pasta dish, but really a very long ways from Mac and Cheese. Â I get what they were going for but it just didn't quite work for me (a personal preference, but the pasta itself was really good).
The staff was nice and genuine, which is always cool.
The thing that prevents this from hitting 4 stars for me is the other people. Â I get that it is a pub near DU, and that I should have expected some loud talking jocks and their catty girlfriends (actually the specific reason we haven't eaten here before), and I was right.
If you need to have a loud conversation move on the the empty end of the bar instead of standing right behind me. Â That type of irritation makes it so I probably wouldn't go back, just don't really dig that particular kind of scene.
Overall decent (but not amazing) food, and an overly loud atmosphere that will keep me away.
This place is fantastic! Â My husband and I just moved into the DU area from a place in the DTC, and we've been exploring the food options in the area. Â We're not super foodies, but we appreciate a good meal and a place that has somewhat of a beer selection. Â When he suggested that we try Jordan's, I was somewhat hesitant, since I hadn't heard much about the place, but I figured that it was within walking distance and it couldn't hurt to try it. Â
Boy am I glad we did!  We were seated immediately and had a server at our table within a minute or two.  He gave us time to check out the menu without being pushy, but he also didn't leave us waiting.  He was very friendly and helpful, and welcomed us  when we told him we were new to the area.
My husband ordered the queso dip, which he loved, and the wings, which our server was happy to split between two different sauces. Â I ordered the shepherds pie. Â Our meals came out quickly and everything we ordered was delicious! Â The wings were crispy and the sauces were flavorful. Â The shepherds pie was huge, though I could have handled some more mashed potatoes on top. Â Other than that, everything was awesome.
I have no doubt in my mind that we will be making Jordan's a regular spot to grab a tasty meal or just a couple of drinks.
Jordan's is pretty much the exact definition of a three-star pub. It's got a decent but not stellar beer selection, is somewhat overpriced, pretty slow service and feels very chainy even though I know it's at least a local chain.
I went here last Tuesday for pub quiz. The decor and location are nice. The company's other bars (Casey's in Stapleton, Darcy's in DTC) are all very much like this: dark woods and warm-colored walls. This space is like a Guinness pint: long but stout. Service was very slow. We waited probably 20 minutes after getting our menus before we ordered anything. The server was taking care of the entire area where pub quiz was running, so he was definitely all over the place, but I still like to be at least acknowledged when a server passes right next to our table but doesn't serve us (A quick..I'll be right with you in a sec. is fine). Â He was pretty slow throughout the night too.
The menu was trying for this better-than-average pub food thing. I wasn't really buying it though. Jordan's charges $10+ for every sandwich including $12.99 for a "deluxe reuben." The apps are all a bit high too in the $8 range. I have been doing a veggie thing for a bit and they only had a few things to chose from: A couple of apps, a veggie burger and a polenta with vegetables dish. I went for the polenta, especially since at $10 it was actually a pretty median priced dish. I was pleasantly surprised. The polenta was grilled crispy and served with a nice assortment of veggies drizzled in a basalmic reducation. On top of the polenta cake was a kind of feta-mousse that gave everything a nice cheese-salty-earthy flavor. The veggies were roasted and tasty, though the dish was just a bit greasy. Still, a four star entree. My friend said his boxtie was good as well.
Jordan's had a decent beer selection: Boddingtons, Smithicks, Shiner, Avalanche and a few other beers for around $5-6, which is definitely reasonable.
Basically Jordan's is a typical Denver "A-Ok" type place. It's kind of a suburban-feeling bar in both clientele and atmosphere, which is kind of strange since it's so close to DU. But I suppose Spanky's and some other bars in the area serve that purpose. And Jordan's was decently crowded on a Tuesday, so I guess it has some purpose of its own. Just not one I would go to on purpose.
So sad, Jordan's best meal deal is GONE! I went for my favorite deal in town "Two dine for $20" last Wednesday and was told they removed the deal from their menu! SO DISAPPOINTING! It was by far the best value you could find in Denver.
Instead, they replaced their Wednesday night deal with yet another (very overused) burger special. NOT what Denver needs...another burger night? Seriously, there are way to many to compete with & Jordan's will get lost in the noise.
I will probably go back as they do have an amazing french dip and adult mac & cheese, but won't be going as often as I used to.
I have driven by Jordan's so many times and have been curuios to try it. I talked with fellow Yelpers who said they have a decent happy hour. Â We missed HH and just decided to have dinner because the menu looked pretty good. Â I had polenta and roasted veggies. It was really good and packed a spicy punch I wasn't expecting. Â The veggies were good, but they weren't fresh. Darn you Jordan's! Â You should go local and fresh. Â We split the appetizer pizza because the waitress said the polenta was a small meal. Â It really wasn't small! I was stuffed and had leftovers for the next day. Â The pizza was good. Â They make a pizza with caramelized pear that I want to try. Â I would also like to try the bangers and mash. I think the next cold, snowy day, I'm gonna hit it up. Â Our service was a bit over the top. Â She kept coming back to check on us, to the point it became a bit annoying. The crowd wasn't bad. Â After 9 it turned into the college bar scene and we left not long after.
Please know that the parking situation is for the birds. Â There is no lot and the streets are crowded. Â You can only park for an hour too. Â When we got to our Jeep, parked a long way off, there was a parking poe just about to give us a ticket, but he let us go.
Still probably my favorite bar around these parts. I don't know about table service but the bar service is always legit.
Don't make the mistake of ordering a fancy import beer like I did during happy hour, there are plenty of delish domestics for wayyy cheaper. I don't know if this is always the case but Breckinridge's Avalanche is considered and priced as a domestic. SCORE!
The pizzas are good to munch on with beer. The wings and chips are ok too but not stellar.
I guess we came to this place on an off night, even though it was a Friday... we were seated quickly but they never cleared the cups off our table from the last group. Waiter service was slow, very slow and to top that all off, someone threw up in a corner of the bar and the WHOLE placed reeked of puke. It was miserable. Â The decor was nice though...
Review Source:After my favorite DU boys suggested this chill bar, I decided it was a great meeting spot to catch up with an old high school friend.
good? no.
great? def.
We both ordered seasonal winter beers, were both impressed with....
-the yummy beer selection, sizes of the beer glasses and cheap prices.
-the classy-ness of the bar, minus the high price tag.
-the full menu. we didn't order any food but all looked yummy.
-the fellow bar goers were very friendly and welcoming us into their neighborhood bar.
but....
-the service is not stellar. in fact, our waitress forgot about us for a good 10-15 minutes. good thing, we had aloooot to catch up on.
-parking is a total bitch. get their early, otherwise be prepared to walk :)
Just when I thought The Pioneer couldn't be beat in regards to happy hours around the DU campus, I was totally surprised to see Jordan's put in a good attempt at offering up discounted beverages and grub if not even better. Â
After having a below par meal of overly cooked salmon during an office function here about a year or so back, I had not been back since. Â A bit hesitant on venturing away from the Pioneer for cheap drinks, my office mates coerced me to Jordan's on a Friday after work. Â
Your typical Irish fare and brews are offered, however, it was the service and the $1.75 Shiner Bock drafts that had me satisfied with our HH destination. Â WIth students MIA for the extended holiday break, the bar was left peaceful and had our waitress antcy for someone to serve and attend to. Â And attend to she most definetely did. Â Hovering around our table, no one went unattended to, not even for a moment. Â And happy hour specials is not limited to Shiner Bock, but includes $3 imperial pints of domestic drafts, wells, and wines, and $4 Irish Car Bombs should you mistakenly choose.
Way to totally redeem yourself, Jordan's!
I live in the DU area, and Jordan's is my go to bar/pub.
It's certainly the classiest joint you'll find in this area, and that's helped by the fact that they are very strict about IDs, so they weed out the desperate underage kids who only wanna get plastered as fast as possible and dance like morons.
The atmosphere is great, as at a certain point (just past dinner?) they dim the lights so it's got that bar feel, but the whole place is clean (including restrooms), and the decorated walls are cool and often times amusing.
The beer selection is great-I always judge a bar or pub but how much they have on tap and how much variety there is.Jordan's does well in this regard, with a good number and great variety. They've got everything from Guiness and Smithwick's (a necessity for an Irish pub), to IPAs, to hard cider. There's something for everyone.
The staff is very nice, but some are more knowledgeable than others. Their bartenders make great drinks and actually know how to pour from a tap (again, something I can be picky about). The managers are really chill-one of them actually stayed open late for me so I could finish watching a game on one of their sweet flatscreens...that's the kind of thing that will bring me back somewhere.
I haven't had much of their food, though their white pizza is pretty awesome, especially if you like garlic. From what I've heard, the majority of the food isn't worth the price, though they do have a "happy hour" menu with some decently priced appetizers like mozzarella sticks.
Bottom line is, Jordan's is a great place to go if you're looking for a nicer pub atmosphere in the area. Prices on some things can be a little high, but the selection is great and there are usually specials.
I just moved to the neighborhood, so this pub picks me up when I'm coming home from classes (later I suspect it will pick me up when I'm going to class). However, their drinks are over-priced and the company is boring. The pita/hummus plate is good but the desserts are terrible. Or at least the strawberry heaven was. Â I think I'd like their music/viewing options selection better if they did not change the channel from baseball to snooker (or whatever the hell they changed it to) and, far worse, change the music selection from old school 80's to the godforsaken Black Eyed Peas. I'll forgive them for that egregious choice, but it'll take a long time.
Edit 12/30/10: Well, maybe not such a long time afterall. Their pizzas are awesome (go Tuesday night for pizza/beer/trivia night specials), and so is their staff. Wish I could afford to eat/drink there every night.
Jordan's is a good standard close to the DU campus. Their baked brie is utterly fabulous, but everything else I've had is just passable to slightly above average. The adult Mac and Cheese is a bit oily, but otherwise tasty...pizza and hummus are just eh. I've had both good and iffy service there. What annoyed me most last time I went (at like 8pm on a Sunday) was that they were out of THREE of the beers our table asked for that are usually on tap. They were out of Heinekin for crying out loud. As someone who doesn't like dark or fruity beers, I had pretty much two choices, one of which was a crappy house beer...I just defaulted to whatever last ditch amber they said they had. At a pub, that's not exactly impressive.
Having said that, I'm a DU student, so I'll keep coming back when I'm hungry and need a study break. Jordan's gets the job done, for the most part...I agree it's kind of overpriced for what you get though.
The ONLY thing that bumped this from one star to two is their chicken wings. The wings are really good. And that's about the only nice thing I can say.
We walked in and the hostess wanted to seat us at the table right by the door - in the middle of a snow storm. Uh... I see about 15 open tables AWAY from the door - I'll take one of those please.
Someone from the kitchen got lazy and decided to prop the back door open and pop his head out for a smoke. A smoke scented blizzard wind came through the restaurant. We complained and our server came back and told us we were right and apologized. Yet, it happened again before we left.
Guiness served too cold, the Ruben was just mediocre (the fries are nasty) and the pizza is a sad sad excuse. Not to mention the beers are $7.
I can honestly say that while I really dug the wings, I'll never go back.
I just went there to meet up with some friends to play poker. I really did not expect that much. I was thinking that since it is so close to DU that it was going to be another "College" bar. I was pleasantly surprised. I was a Monday, So not that busy. Good Menu, and Plenty of Beers on tap. PBR in the can for $2 ( I still can understand why hipsters drink this crap)
Dark wood and a long curving bar this Irish Pub.
I did not eat just had a few beers. My buddy had the Honey Habannaro wings ($0.45 on Mondays) and loved them.
I will make it a point to go back again and try there food.
Good little place to grab a drink.
The Good: Â Jordan's is the only DU area bar that isn't a hellhole. Â I love dives, but sometimes it is nice to go to a "nicer" bar. Â Jordan's has a fairly diverse beer selection, but they do not have anything out of the ordinary. Â Their happy hours are a great deal, and the location is fantastic.
The "Meh":
The decor is irritating. Â Jordan's is trying to be a pub, but it really looks like someone went overboard with "Irish" decorations from Pier 1. Â
The Bad:
DU undergrads on the weekends. Â During the week, Jordan's has a pretty healthy traffic of DU grad students, DU law students and a mix of other people from the University/Observatory Park neighborhood. Â And that's the best time to go. Â Friday and Saturday night are a completely different story. Â The bar is uncomfortably packed, and the fact that Jordan's actually cards just means that the undergrads are all upperclassmen who think they're hot shit. Â
The food. Â Just don't eat here. Â Period.
I have been to Jordan's often. More often because friends love the convenience. In this neighborhood it really is the only place of its kind.
For whatever reason this place has some of the slowest and dippiest servers I have ever experienced. I don't know what the owners are thinking. They apparently replace the servers often. I rarely see the same person working there.
I like the fact that Jordan's sells small oven fired pizzas. I don't like the fact that insist on using cornmeal on the bottom to prevent sticking. Cornmeal? Lazy! It's a friggin' abomination to all great pizza traditions. Maybe in Ireland, but don't bring that junk to the States!
I do appreciate Jordan's selection of authentic British beers. Fuller's. mmm....
I just wish this place cared more about the service and their product. Perhaps some more competition would get this place to up their game.
I use be a Jordan's regular. I'm not anymore. Not due to the service, food or experience but I'm not in college anymore.
I do like the atmosphere and the fact that they check ID's but there wasn't really any special about Jordan's other than a new bar around DU.
The drinks are relatively cheap and the service...well that's another story...
(This is a review of Jordan's on weekend days! Â I know it's the disco of DU's business and law programs M-Th nights.)
I went here to watch the Scotland-Ireland rugby match early on a Sunday with my very Irish ladyfriend. Â We enjoyed the match thoroughly, as she's convinced team captain Driscoll is some distant relative.
Anyway, Jordan's transforms on the weekends when it shows rugby. Â The crowd is into it, and it's something you can't find elsewhere in Denver. Â There are drinks to be had -- it was nice to get a nitrogen-tap Guinness rather than a screwdriver with brunch. Â The crowd was very Irish/European, and I'm not sure if the turnout is as large for non-Ireland rugby matches.
She also got a traditional Irish breakfast of a bunch of stuff I'd never heard of. Â Black pudding (blood), white pudding (animal fat), eggs, brown bread (fried, heavy bread), sausage & bacon. Â Yikes, I shiver just looking at it. Â But she was happy, because Irish people still apparently eat this stuff and it reminded her of being a kid.
Wherever your loyalties lie in those dead horses of European rivalries, or if you're just looking for a good place to watch rugby (and I'd assume soccer), check out Jordan's on the weekend for a unique time!
I've been here twice over the last week. Â Once to eat dinner, and the second time just to have a Strongbow Cider. Â
What did I think of it: Â Honestly, don't call it a bistro with that menu. Â Call it what it is, just a pub, not a "Bistro &Pub" Â Sure, it's one step above the other Irish restaurant certain people who are "Lovin' It" Â frequent, known by it's golden arches and speedy service...but don't expect anything more than a college town bar, with a decently decorated interior, and bar food.
All in all everything on their menu is greasy, fried, and likely delicious, but I want to live to see next week. Â So I decided to try it out as just a "Pub" a few days later. Â They have a decent selection of beers, which made the assault on my ears from those performing Karaoke go a little more smoothly.
I don't think I'll be going back here anytime soon, especially not on Karaoke night, but I don't think I'm the target clientele anyway.
If I were 22, looking for some action and loved hearing bad, bad karaoke - I would of enjoyed Jordan's a bit more tonight. The food, I think, is great. I love the authentic Irish dishes and the more American selections. The menu is great and varied. The good news is I can go for Brunch or during the day, before the college crowd takes over.
Note: Parking can be really, really tough if there is an event at DU - so keep that in mind.
My first experience was a good one. Â Corned Beef Sliders, garlic cheesy fries and happy hour beer. Â No compaints.
I had been trying to persuade my husband to come back with me and he finally caved one evening when we were both bery tired and hungry.
We both ordered The Dubliner; shaved steak and white cheddar; sandwich. Â I had the french onion soup and he had the fries i raved about. Â Evidently if you want the heavenly garlic cheese fries you have to know to ask for "skinny fries", he got fat generic Ore-ida esque fries. Â Side Note: he liked them, but I wanted to steal some of the delicious ones and I didn't want the fat ones. Â
The french onion soup was great. Â It tasted homemade with plenty of crispy chees on top.
Everything sounds good right, but then there was the sandwich, the star of the show. Â Not so much.
I couldn't take a bite of the sandwich without the assistance of my hands to extricate the chewy overcooked meat from my mouth. Â I needed a fork and knife to eat the tough meat. Â Not what I was expecting at all. Â Fortunately it tasted good so I kept eating, i was tired and hungry. Â
I will not hold one unfortunate sandwich against Jordan's. Â They even had a festive pub quiz night going on when we were in. Â Granted, we weren't playing, but it was festive none the less.
Now I know, " Skinny fries please...extra garlic"
I live right around the corner from Jordan's - as such, I tend to go here often. Â The environment is fun and the food is pretty reasonable and decent quality. Â It's often a good time to simply sit at the bar, order a beer and a happy hour pizza, and watch whatever sports they're playing.
My only problem with the place is the service. Â Normally, in a relatively relaxed atmosphere, service time wouldn't, but most recently, I went here with a prospective client, and it really did not set a good tone. Â When the server did arrive, he was rather nonplussed (like he didn't want to be there).
Overall, Jordan's is a great place to have a beer and hang out, but if you're under a time crunch (say, to get to a DU hockey game), know this place may take a bit longer than you'd like.
Went to Jordan's for the first time tonight. Â I was impressed at how packed with DU undergrads it was. Â Despite this fact, I still enjoyed myself. Â The strategically located TV's with soccer on were much appreciated. Â What was even more appreciated were the amazing deals on some super tasty "tapas." Â I am not sure that chicken wings, pizzas, and mini burgers would pass as tapas, but I am not an expert on the subject. Â I spent $1 on a pretty sizable mini-burger and was very happy with it. Â Even though the place has been open for only a few weeks I met someone who exclusively eats there now, so I will go back to try the food in the future. Â Overall, very good, stars were lost for the undergrad crowd I wasn't too crazy about. Â
