There is a short supply of great lunch places in Plantation so when a co-worker suggested we go to a Cuban restaurant called Las Vegas I didn't hesitate. Â The food was nothing special but I am not the biggest fan of Cuban food to begin with. Â The service was quick and of course that is always appreciated when you are pressed for time. Â I am happy I tried because now I can scratch it off my list of possible stops during my lunch hour.
Review Source:I am not a Latin food fan, but my husband was whining about wanting to go here. Â I decided to make it to-go. Â I had ordered a Cuban sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and a pulled pork lunch platter special. Â I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Â The Cuban was a fat sandwich. Â The only suggestion I had was that it could be a little drier. Â I hate that the juices made the bread soggy on the ends. Â My sister had the pulled pork sandwich, which was very good. Â The bread wasn't soggy on the ends. Â The pulled pork was nicely seasoned and didn't seem too fatty or soggy from sitting in the fat all day. Â The black bean and rice side was good. Â It wasn't salty like most places I have tried. Â I didn't try the plantains, so I couldn't comment on that.
The customer service here was outstanding. Â The guy in the front was very helpful and didn't mind answering any questions I had about the food. Â The restaurant is very clean. Â I would like to come back here the next time I am in town.
Que Rico!
When I moved to Broward from Dade I was very happy. Not a long time went by though before I started missing the easy access to pastelitos, cortaditos and Cuban food on demand I had back in the 305. It is hard to find here.
I asked around and found Las Vegas. I knew it well because I had visited the Miami Beach location in the past but did not know they had one so close to my house.
I have to say that when I get nostalgic about the food I grew up on, I come here! Nothing like bistec empanizado with maduros and my good ole white rice topped with black beans. Riquisimo! Start all of that with the Cuban bread & butter and end it with a guava flan and you are golden!
The place is pretty big and inviting for big groups. It is very casual and inexpensive. This is not an upscale place. You get paper napkins and go to town on the food so just come hungry!
Food portions are pretty big so don't think twice about sharing. I recently visited and service was a little off though. It had never happened before. Our waiter was missing a lot, would forget to bring things we had asked several times about and was just in another world. The tres leches was actually frozen in the middle which was a turn off. Again, it had never happened before so will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a one time thing.
I have also catered with them for noche buena several times. I always have to knock off a couple of servings to my order because of the large portions. If ordering say for 20 people, just make the order for 15. Last year we did arroz con pollo and it was AMAZING! Everyone kept going back for more!
Feliz como lombriz to have this near my house as my little Cuban home away from home. Pruébalo! You'll like it.
To start off, I am a Miami-born Cuban and have high standards yet extremely wide tolerance for Cuban food quality. Â That being said,...
Started with the appetizer sampler which was large and for the most part good.  The tamale was heavy on cloves (weird), but the rest was good.  Since it was so large the wife, me and the 11 year old split a media noche  (a pressed cuban sandwhich on egg bread)  and a bowl if caldo gallego (soup).  The soup was bland and the media noche was the worst I have ever eaten.  The sandwich is pressed to be crispy, mine was floppy (but still had "plancha" marks).  I could go on but I do not wish to relive the horror.  The table next to us sent back their kids chicken fingers (because the kid was complaining it was hard to chew).  And to finish horribly we ordered a Mamay shake ( Hell,I thought, even a bad one is still pretty good, and I am proven wrong). Somehow it vaguely tasted like strawberry quick from the 80s, but only vaguely because I loved strawberry quick, did not care for this .  If you want Cuban food, go elsewhere. They get a second star for service.
I must say I enjoy the food here. Â Atmosphere is welcoming to large groups. Â Saw large familys together, and that always warms the heart - good for digestion, too. Â
My nephew quited the place down a few times when he screamed out "YEEEES!". Â He's 2, so I can only assume he liked the black beans and rice, too. ;)
Portions are generous. Â I always have the option to load up on the calories, or split them meals for some excellent left overs.
I feel you get taken care of here. Â Make it a point to bring your family, too.
This wasn't the best Cuban food I have ever had, but still good. The service here was out of this world. The waitress was so friendly and patient. I had a pork sandwich that I really enjoyed. Perfectly cooked and the bread was great!
The problem? My dining companions ordered the whole fried snapper because of Lent, which at first, seemed like a good idea. They were really hoping for the best considering the fish was $18 a pop. Anyway, when they received the fish, they overlooked the fact that it was battered, something they weren't expecting, but the fish was way overcooked. I tried a bite, and it almost tasted as if it was fried in old oil. My mother-in-law had a few bites and then put it aside. It just wasn't good. The waitress did take her fish off the bill and the manager apologized.
So the moral of the story? Don't get a whole fried fish here. It's kind of like going to Mcdonalds and ordering a taco. They don't specialize in it, so it probably won't be so good. I would be willing to return to have another sandwich or any of their various Cuban dishes. But no fish!
I tried the lechon asado, and it was very good. It came with the usual rice, black beans, and plantains. I usually like ordering the ropa vieja at Cuban places, but the last Cuban restaurant that I tried in the area, I wasn't a fan of the way they cooked it. This time I went with pork, and it was so tasty! If you are familiar with Hawaiian food, it's sort of like kalua pork. My husband ordered empanadas and a tamal. They were OK, but I preferred my dish. I ended up being so full, it turned into next day's lunch.
Service was good. As we were leaving, we noticed that policemen were coming in to eat here, so that tells you something. It must be good if the local law enforcement comes in to chow down here.
Best Cuban food I've had. Great prices for their lunch specials, I always get the Filete de Pollo and it's always excellent. The garlic bread is also delicious.
It's usually really crowded around lunch time, but there's never a long wait and the service is pretty fast once you're seated.
I love Cuban food and since we were near Las Vegas we definitely had to make a stop for lunch.
We were immediately attended upon walking in. Service was awesome and quick. The bread with butter and garlic is my favorite. Had to ask for twice the amount lol.
They had the lunch special going on. All three of us got the skirt steak with rice and black beans. It came with a side of plantains. It was delicious! We also had the empanadas de carne! I am addicted to empanadas.
Overall, food was delicious, service was great and we will definitely be back again!
I'm so happy these Cubans crossed the ocean!!! No I'm not being racist, that's what the front of the menu says.. They are proud immigrants and I'm happy they made the voyage all the way to Plantation.
Anywhoo the food was ok.. I've eaten at a few Cuban places so I really just give them credit for their restaurant which was cutely decorated.
I had the Ropa Veja with black beans, white rice and plantains. They got an extra half star from me because while I was standing there thinking about how good this would taste with bread, they threw in a greased stained bag filled with Cuban bread with garlic butter! Aye que RICO!!
Hhhmm why is there sand way over here in Plantation LOLOL
Well, she ain't pretty but don't let her looks fool you, there's some good grub to be had inside and at a pretty good price.
The decor leaves something to be desired but the staff is very friendly and helpful. I'm new to South Florida so I can't attest to how authentic Cuban the food is but I thought it was very good. You can get a good meal here for under $10 or spend a little more and have enough leftovers for a second meal. I had the ropa vieja for $8 (which is shredded beef in sauce - apparently a "Cuban tradition"). It came with rice, beans, and plantains. I also had a bite of my girlfriends camarones enchilados (shrimp in sauce) which came with the same sides and was also very good at around $12.
Also, I definitely recommend the house made Sangria.
