This is a great restaurant. I don't understand the lack of positive comments and diners. The night we went it was virtually empty. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. And the food was sophisticated and delicious.  I had scallops and rissoto as my main. Delicious and perfectly made. Book a table fast before everyone realizes that this place is up there with other greats on the island like yellowfin and black eyed susans.

What a great dining experience!! Came in with some friends from out if town and it was a unforgettable meal.  From the Scallops to Escargot, each bite was better than the next. The server Gabrielle was so personable, she was warm and attentive to all our needs. The owner Mark came over and spent some real quality time with us. Most places, they breeze by your table, but he ask us about our trip and gave us some activity suggestions. We will all be back!  I would recomend you make a stop there and enjoy the chefs creations!!!

My wife and I decided to try this place for the first time last night. Outside of place has no charm or "eat here" appeal. Once inside on a Sunday evening at 7:30 we were one of four couples. The music was extremely annoying, some sort of 1970's organ music that Booker T and the Mg's would have puked over. Sounded like the music you hear when waiting for the movies to start. Not a fit for French Restaurant.
On the specials board they advertised fresh raw oysters but the waitress was quick to announce they were out of them. If your out take them off the board..
Next I ordered Escargots. They were barely warm enough and served in some sort of bland herby sauce..not good..
After appetizers we waited 30 min for the main course to be served..total disconnect with only 4 couples in the place.
The short ribs were just okay but my opinion about the place had been formed. Not good. Don't go.

By far, one of the best meals on LBI!!! For those who frequent the more popular spots in LBi like Stefano's, The Plantation and the like, this one is a must try..you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable, the food is absolute perfection from appy's to desserts! The cured meats, cheese and foie gras mousse appetizer tray was absolutely suberb and the lamb ragu served over homemade stuffed agnolotti pasta (a special) was one of the tastiest meals I've ever experienced! As for the deserts, (they have a new pastry chef on staff), where do I begin?!? The lemonade cheesecake and baked Alaska (special) are to die for! The service was exceptional as well. Very up-beat and personable hostess and waitress, and top it off with personal visits from chef and owner to assure our dining experience met our expectations. Whether vacationing or a home owner on the island, you don't want to miss this one.

The new chef's menu is outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals from the appetizers to the fabulous desserts. The entire staff was extremely attentive & friendly. In addition, the owner & chef stopped by our table to check on our meals.

Extremely surprised you can get New York quality food in a small shore town!!  This is my first review because I was so thrilled with this place.  Food highlights:  Champagne battered squid with a honey goat cheese; Soft Shell "whales" they call them with balsamic, chanterelles and white asparagus; Lemonade cheese cake perfection!!  We were a group of 10, showed up an hour late for our reservation and they still accommodated us perfectly.  The staff was friendly and helpful in making menu suggestions and we tried most everything from the fondue to the escargot and the quality and presentation of food was flawless.  Our waitress, believe Gabrielle could not have been more pleasant.  The chef was kind enough to leave the kitchen and check on his food and our liking of it to which he received rave reviews from our group.  This restaurant actually made our trip to LBI and was by far the best food that week.  Can't wait to go back as the owner/manager said they were releasing new menu items that sounded really good.  So by far 5 STARS for this place!!!

I recently brought 9 people for a Saturday night dinner. I needed to change the reservation and up the number in the party and the hostess accommodated us with out a problem, when I called ahead. Our table was ready when we arrived and the waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of all of the menu items. The chef took the time to greet us personally during the meal and provided a free appetizer for the table also. We all had appetizers entrees and deserts, There was not one complaint from any body in our party. This is a BYOB which kept the cost down to a reasonable $40.00 per person average. An excellent price for the quality and quantity of food. This one was of my best meals on LBI. Although the decor was only average. The friendly wait staff made the place shine.

Superb. The scallops were amazing; the tuna trio appetizer was fabulous and the fluke was tremendous. We eat out a lot and are very picky. This place is wonderful. And the service was just perfect: knowledgeable, very friendly and warm. I rarely have trouble finding something wrong with a restaurant. But I am truly struggling to find anything to criticize. The ambience and atmosphere are also very appealing. Ok, one little thing: the lights kept changing.
I love this place (is that obvious ?) Bravo.

We never had a chance to evaluate the food because the service was so horrible we left before our order was even taken. We had made a reservation for 4 at 8pm on a Thursday night. A few minutes after arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by the hostess, led to an awkwardly long table set for 6 and given menus. The restaurant was busy but not over crowded. After about 10 minutes without seeing a waitress, we decided to open our bottle of sparkling wine ourselves and continue waiting for some sort of service. We then sat there for another 15 minutes being obviously ignored by the staff as the went to and from the kitchen/prep area (we had been seated in the front of the restaurant nearest the kitchen).
Eventually, my husband was able to catch a server's attention. She came over and asked to take our order but we told her we would like to request an ice bucket, water and bread for the table first. Water was brought promptly but nothing else. Another several minutes then went by with no further service. My husband left the table and spoke with a man who was wearing red shoes and appeared to be some sort of manager. He told him we were very close to leaving the restaurant because of the poor service. An ice bucket and bread finally arrived at the table. Unfortunately though things deteriorated further when a complimentary appetizer was abruptly set on the table by an obviously annoyed female server who spilled a large glass of water into my brother-in-law's lap. There was no real attempt at an apology so we left the restaurant. Luckily we ended up having a fabulous meal at another restaurant.

The chef really knows what he is doing and I think, if backed against the wall, I had the best meal there I've ever had on LBI. There were some weak spots - mostly in the service, the Culinary Institute of America baguette, and an order mixup. Brush that off and bring an extra bottle of wine. Go for the food, the chef is spot on terrific with both presentation and taste IMHO.

The place recently changed its name but the chef has remained the same. My wife was here before and was very impressed. We took a group of friends here on a Thursday night and they were able to accommodate us last minute. The ambiance is very nice for a beach restaurant, the service was fantastic and the food was wonderful. I don't usually give out 5 stars but I believe this place deserves it. They did not have a hick up. We started out with the Shrimp Bisque soup which was hot with a mild shrimp taste. Two large Prawns added a great touch. The table had a good sampling of seafood, pork and vegetarian options. The ribs were some of the best I have had with a nice lite Cole slaw and roasted potato's on the side, the seafood sampled were Stuffed Shrimp, Scallops and the Salmon in a parchment. All reviewed high by the dining team. This is a BYOB and I would call for reservations in the summer months.

This is Plate with a new name.  As we learned L'assiette is plate in French.  We were a party of four, and I guess all felt that it was just ok.  Not much has changed with the decor, which was not much to begin with.  The staff is pleasant, but kind of stand offish.  The food was good, but some things just should have been done better.  Shrimp cocktail should be served chilled, not at room temperature.  The stuffed shrimp was a bit tough.  The last time we were there, when it was Plate, we gave it three stars, but just barely.  Maybe this was an off night, or maybe this is just how it is.

Visited last weekend - June 6, 2011.  Prices on the website looked a little high, but the portion sizes were large so the price was worth it.  The restaurant is BYOB so we brought some wine.  My companions ordered the lobster bisque and said it was excellent.  The chef brought out a small appetizer for our table - free.  After telling our waiter that I couldn't eat anything with wheat/flour in it (I need to eat gluten free) he went back to the kitchen to double check on the salad that I had ordered.  He came back to let me know that the dressing did have wheat in it but that if I called in advance of coming next time, they could prepare me something special. I also overhead the chef talking to 2 girls who were asking about vegetarian options.  He seemed very willing to accommodate them. I had the omelet - excellent and filling. My friends had the fluke and the ribs and said they were really good.  Overall the waiter (maybe he was the owner?) seemed to really care about our experience. Definitely a better restaurant than I expected and I would go back.

Wish I could give this 0 stars.

This was one of my worst dining experiences.  The food was stale, the service was non-existent (we waited for almost an hour in a practically empty restaurant), and the waiter was mental (called me a name, and ran outside the restaurant after us when we left, and wanted to get into a fight
    with my husband).

Definitely a place to avoid, there are lots of other dining options on LBI.
