This feels like a nice, friendly neighborhood kind of place! I've seen it for a long time and wondered what was going on. Finally decided to go in for lunch on a Saturday, the staff was friendly and inviting, the atmosphere was dive but not dirty and the food was great! I'm sure I'll be back soon!
Review Source:This place has me confused. Â When I'm in the bar area everyone is so friendly and the service is awesome! Â When I sit in the "dining room" our server is always unfriendly, bored, and very very slow. Â How can one place provide such differing experiences? Â Take it from me, walk in the front door. Â Show your ID to the nice man sitting on the chair (he'll probably tell you a joke or something, either way he's super friendly) and walk straight to the bar area. Â Do not venture into no man's land known as the dining room.
Review Source:ok... how did you get better, Lincolns? Â went there last night to grab a bloody and a po-boy, which i love and have yelped about before. Â lo and behold, the po-boys got bigger, more shrimpier, more delicious, and the ruffles chips have been replaced with cajun homemade chips! Â waaaa!?! mind blown... thanks for the grub... rub a dub.. see you every day for lunch and dinnner
Review Source:So, I get that this is a dive bar and is supposed to resemble a dive bar, but I totally walked out of this bar. Â My boyfriend and I went here for a low key date night dinner, sat at a booth, and started to look at the menu. Â Unfortunately, the entire place just looked filthy and smelled of vomit and cigarettes. Â There was sticky stuff under my chair and under the table, and I watched the bartender rub his extremely large beard and then grab a lemon and drop it in a drink. Â My boyfriend wasn't deterred -- having heard great reviews -- and insisted on trying the gumbo. Â He liked it, but agreed to leave with me for dinner at Hanson's instead. Â
The patrons looked perfectly normal and there did appear to be a band setting up. Â Perhaps this is more the type of place you come to get drunk enough to not notice the smell and hair in your drink, but I definitely won't be eating here.
I walked in here totally in a good mood and really liked the feel of the place. I left in a bad mood due to being treated with total disrespect.
My server brought me food I didn't order, and then I ended up not liking my overly-salty under-fired blackened catfish, so I sent it back.
I went to smoke on the patio, and we asked her specifically not to let go of our table. Came back in, our table was bussed, and another couple was sitting there.
The bartender offered to kick them off, but it wasn't their fault. The waitress then attempted to remove the couple from the table, so we ended up awkwardly sharing the table for a minute, but we just wanted to close out at that point.
My sent-back catfish was on the bill, so I asked her to take it off. She snatched the bill out of my hand and without saying a word to me, stomped over to the bartender, who huffed and puffed over comping the meal I didn't eat. He tossed her the bill and then she just slammed it down in front of me. Not a word was said to me about why I didn't like it or what was wrong. I was ignored and made to feel awkward by angry staff that didn't have time to acknowledge my problem.
Then I had to ask what the $18.00 on my bill was for - two vodka drinks! But then he said the server bought my friend a drink for the wrong pickle order. So why was she charged for both drinks?
I was ready to leave. So I paid the tab with my friend. Finally the bartender saw how frustrated I was and offered us a shot. We took it, and he finally apologized, which is fine, but I'd rather have just been treated kindly from the get-go. Even if something goes wrong, you can fix it by being a decent server and ask what is wrong and offer to do something, anything. I know we all have bad days, but seriously, going here killed my buzz. I had to go get a drink after my drink to try and erase it from my memory.
On the up side - my friend said her catfish poboy was good and so was her green chili. Too bad I left hungry.
I wanted to like this place, walked in totally ready to enjoy myself. They had every opportunity to make it right, and didn't.
This place has some great live music. I just was in yesterday and had the crawfish poppers and the shrimp quesadilla! They both were really good. Service is not great and I wouldn't recommend ordering a manhattan. I went up to the bar to get a cherry and lemon, I was ignored and the server seemed bothered. Then the bartender yelled at the server for just grabbing a couple cherries for me...saying "don't touch shit!" I also think our table was charged from some stranger's beer and when I asked the server to check, she never let us know.
I guess it's a bar...can't expect much.
I had the best experience when I stopped in here one day looking for po' boys. The bartender, our server, was super upbeat and friendly and told us everything we needed to know about the menu and drinks. As we waited for our food the bartender brought us a sample of their green chili which was awesome! On top of our po' boys being as delicious as ever she yells from the bar that shes buying a round of shots for everyone and asks what we wanted (after grabbing our ID's). I got a simple fireball shot but my friend took her up on the offer and had a shot of Jameson. By this time we were thoroughly impressed with the place but that's not the end. After the free chili, free shot, and po' boys she asks us if we like fried pickles.. umm YES! she tells us we "have" to try theirs so she brings us an entire free basket of fried pickles.. these were by far the best fried pickles I have ever had.. and to top it off their ranch was also one of the best. We didn't want to leave, so we each grabbed a beer as well.
All in all, excellent service, food and everything else. I will go back.
I came here with my friends by their recommendation. They have a live band that isn't bad, and since the moment I walked in the door, everyone that works here has been inhospitable, unpleasant, and harsh to me. The atmosphere is OK I guess, kind of dirty. But because the wait staff sucks so bad, I will never come back. STEER CLEAR!!!
Review Source:Chicken and waffles on Saturday and Sunday. Â The food is actually good. Â Live music every Sunday afternoon. Beer. Wait staff either spot on or forgets they ever laid eyes on you. Â Bathroom totally sucks, the crowd can be a little on the rough side and I am not sure there is one healthy liver or lung in the place, but a fun place none-the-less.
Review Source:Live music, good food, and fun biker types makes this a great place to hang out with some awesome friends! Â
The drink prices at Lincoln's are reasonable and the drinks are of the nice, stiff variety. Â The burgers are of good size and really yummy. Â Once the bands are done playing, put some money in the jukebox, jam some 80's, grab a chair on the smoking patio, and watch hilarity ensue as everyone drunkenly sings to their favorite tunes. Â
The food specialty here is Cajun. Â I hope to experience that culinary goodness on my next visit.
Viva la Lincoln's!
This is a cool little spot in the West Wash Park area. Â While it could technically be considered a dive, the main room is a bit nicer than dive while the back room has the classic diner tables. Â I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to cure my jonesing for a po boy. Â Got a cup of gumbo and a fried shrimp po boy. Â While the gumbo left a bit to be desired...it was relatively bland, the po boy was spot on. Â Great bread, fantastic seasoning to the shrimp, the whole shebang. Â Service at the bar was great as well, although it was myself and some regular for customers at this particular time. Â Overall, it's a nice place to get your Cajun grub on, they have live music and a little outdoor patio as well.
Review Source:What a great neighborhood bar! Â We met up with a bunch of friends here for open mic night and enjoyed the awesome Cajun menu items and the free entertainment. Â This is a nice, friendly, unpretentious bar where you can let your hair down, slam some Jaeger Bombs and play a few rounds of pool with your best buds. Â We'll be back again and again!
Review Source:I'd heard about Lincoln's Roadhouse, but even though I love cajun and creole food I never went until this week. Â My wife and I went for lunch yesterday. Â It wasn't crowded, and they just had one person running the bar and waiting tables in both the main rooms of the place. Â So service wasn't great, but was OK.
Everything on the menu sounded really yummy, and I finally settled on the catfish dinner with blackened catfish (the other option is fried catfish). Â It came with fries and hushpuppies, and homemade tartar sauce. Â They also included a little plastic cup of honey. Â I'm not sure what the honey was supposed to be for, so I tried it on the catfish and on the hushpuppies. Â It didn't do anything for either. Â So I'm STILL not sure what the honey is supposed to be for.
The catfish itself was weird. Â I expected a fillet, blackened on a flat top. Â But it was about 20 or 30 little tiny pieces of catfish, each about the size of one of my fingers. Â The seasoning was good and the fish itself was good, but I couldn't really grasp why they cut up a fish this way, then cook it. Â I'd really prefer just a catfish fillet. Â The hushpuppies were good, and the fries were "real" fries, apparently hand cut fresh from a potato. Â Even though fries like that are never as crispy, I like them. Â And the tartar sauce was really good.
The Mrs. had a half po-boy and a cup of gumbo. Â She also was in the mood for blackened catfish, so that's what was in the po-boy. Â Same weird finger sized pieces of fish, so I didn't bother trying it. Â The gumbo was OK, but had too much rice and the roux wasn't as rich as I'd hoped (not nearly as good as Bayou Bob's or the now-defunct-but-maybe-coming-back Gumbo's). Â I'm a sucker for good gumbo, so this was a bit disappointing.
Overall, I can't give Lincoln's Roadhouse more than 3 stars. Â Between the weird catfish and the humdrum gumbo, I don't feel compelled to go back.
It was probably around 2:30 this afternoon when Louisa said she wanted to go to Lincoln's Road House for Cajun food. I considered it her call, Mother's Day and all. Not a problem for me. I enjoy Cajun. Â Lincoln's is a neighborhood bar and restaurant on the west side of Washington Park, and also a biker bar. We'd been there in November of 2000 after a Broncos' game when it was called the Washington Street Exit or something like that.
She had a half Poor Boy sandwich and bowl of Gumbo. I had some tasty Blackened Catfish, Fries & Hush Puppies. All authentic enough. We declined on the free sample shots of Devil's' Cut Whiskey. If you drink it you'd have loved it, as there seemed to be an endless supply of the offering. I didn't catch the name of the blues band that started at 3:30, but I enjoyed them too.
I recommend it for a mid-priced, friendly place with authentic Cajun food and very good service.
I've heard & read about Lincoln's Roadhouse for some time, but never could remember to go see for myself. Until this weekend that is. Parking is on the street & is a bit challenging, but don't let it deter you. It's a little "divey" when you walk in, but don't let it deter you.
I sat at the bar & was greeted by beertender Bonnie, an absolute gem that made me feel completely welcome. The draft beer selection is a little skinny, but don't let it deter you. Perusal of the menu dictated that I start with the Cajun Popcorn. OH, MY, GOODNESS, were they ever yummy! And the homemade remoulade was a perfect dipping compliment. Of course I had to try the Fried Pickles. Mmmmm.
The owner, Jim Bob, is an absolute hoot & I sat & chatted it up with him for a while. He "forced" me to try his Gumbo, which was off the charts. Then he "forced" me to try his Red Beans & Rice - oh my, even more yumminess.
After we watched the Kentucky Derby, we started talking about Kentucky & bourbon & he said his good friend is Fred Noe, 7th generation master distiller @ Jim Beam. So JIm Bob picks up his cell & calls Fred, then gave the phone to me! What an honor getting to talk to such a legend for several minutes. It all ended with some bread pudding which had to be some of the best I've ever had.
Thanks Jim Bob for making my day such a delight. I've definitely found me a little slice of heaven in Denver @ Lincoln's Roadhouse!!
O. M. G.!!! This place has THE best fried seafood anywhere in Denver! Â The po-boys, crawfish, shrimp, fish... everything is perfectly tender on the inside and deliciously crispy on the outside. Â I will DEFINITELY be back here again! Â Depending on the time of night the service could be a bit slow, but the staff is nice and friendly. (Hint: Definitely try the Hushpuppies! YUMM!)
Review Source:What I had? Â Fried pickles (A true Southern treat. Dill pickle coins battered and deep fried) and N'awlins Style Red Beans & Rice (A heaping serving of our famous red beans & Cajun sausage served over steamed rice. Served with a dinner salad)
Food review: Â Started out with the fried pickles which were quite tasty. Â Definitely the highlight of food I had that night. Â 2nd came the dinner salad which was also pretty good stuff as well. Â Ended with the red beans and rice which unfortunately was just average. Â I have yet to find a red beans and rice in town that I really enjoy. Â They do have a few sauces of their own they make there. Â I highly recommend the Serrano Gator Sauce. Â It not only made the red beans and rice a little better but I wish I had it for the fried pickles. Â I imagine the sauce would have tasted great on those. Â Last but not least, I'm finding that Odell's Easy Street is getting a little more hard to find these days but they have it on tap here. Â Yayyy! Â Anyway, if possible I'd like to come again when Jim Bob is around and get his advice on what to eat. Â Perhaps, he would have had a better recommendation for me. Â I was just desperate to find some good red beans and rice in town. Â :-)
Service? Â I was a bit hesitant to give this place 4 stars as I really like to keep the ratings based on the food only but I'm a sucker for places that have the owner out on the floor making conversation and making sure your experience there is a positive one. Â That is certainly the feel at Lincoln's when Jim Bob is out and about.
"I'm not paid to listen to the music." Yes, that's what our server replied when asked about the band about to perform.
Beyond that bit of weirdness, Lincoln's Roadhouse is a nice little bikery, divey place along the old Valley Highway, at the apogee of South Pearl. Unassuming, cheap beer, and a fun clientele.
Oh, and the Diane Jobe Band played a nice combination of blues tunes that had us old folk dancing.
This place was a bit strange. Â I think it is definitely a love it or hate it type of place, and unfortunately for me I am neither 1) a biker, 2) a babyboomer wanting to relive my biker days, or 3) a hipster hanging out here solely because it is a dive/biker bar.
If you any of those are your things, you will love it there, it just wasn't for me.
Tagged along with a friend  to go to his friends' party to ring in the New Year in a bar in a city  in a state with which we have otherwise no connections.  We went to Lincoln's.
I heard it was a biker bar. Â I heard I'd be 1 of 2 asians in the bar. Â And I heard that it could get rowdy. Â It was nearly all true (I spied another asian person - W refused to allow me to approach him & hug him like he was my long lost cousin, and yes, I was wasted at that point).
This is one of the friendliest bar with the friendliest patrons I've ever had the pleasure with being in company. Â Of course, my friend's friends were incredibly lovely. Â Everyone in the bar was plastered. The music was interactive (the band had 2 washboard things that people were making noises with spoons). Â There were free jello shots. Â A wedding celebration was occurring... Â it was a truly a riotously joyful experience. Â Not my style, but it was nice coming out of routine and having a great time of it~ Â I would revisit & recommend this place. Â
I didn't know they served food!
My husband and I went here the other night after reading the reviews and deciding it had been too long since we'd had good cajun food. I admit, I was just a tad nervous because I thought this was going to be a biker bar. I really don't know that I would classify this as truly a biker bar. We went on a Saturday night. We got there around 7:30pm, a waitress invited us to seat ourselves wherever we liked. We chose a booth in the back area. There is a bar area in the front closer to a small stage and then around the corner there is an area with booths and pool tables. The stage is still visible from most of the booths.
Our server was friendly and took our order in a timely fashion. I had the shrimp basket and my husband had the catfish basket with a side of gumbo. Our food was fantastic. We are from the south and we know what gumbo and fried fish is supposed to taste like - this is what it's supposed to taste like. We completely stuffed ourselves.
We stuck around until a band started playing - around 9ish. There is no cover charge. The place got pretty packed, by 9 there was no place to sit so were glad we had a table. There was a mixed crowd. My husband and I are in our thirties and we might have been on the younger side but there were plenty of people there that seemed pretty much like us. If there were any bikers there I didn't notice them. There were a whole lot of SUVs parked on the street when we came in and when we left.
So it's great food, great service, and a fun atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
We found this place in an on-line search for live music in Denver. Â Came strictly for the music and found a nice little bar as well. Â Friday night at 9 pm and the place was mostly full. Â They have a Cajun menu but we did not eat. Â Friendly staff even though we were nursing our drinks. Â Everyone seemed to know each other - definitely a locals place - but also nodded or said hi to the strangers (us). Â The band that night was Maynard Mills Blues Band - music was a good volume and well adjusted for sound quality. Â A neighborhood place - street parking and a very small lot. Â They have a sign asking that bike (motorcycle) noise be kept to a minimum. Â Recommended.
Review Source:Funny thing is that my Dad and Stepmom encouraged me to try this place as they often go there for Cajun food every now and then. Â Strikes me odd that someone would go here for a meal, but I was somewhat surprised.
A few of my coworkers and I ventured here on a Friday after work to try out a new happy hour and bar around the University of Denver campus. Â By definition a roadhouse is an inn usually outside city limits on a main road or highway providing meals, liquor, dancing, and sometimes gambling. Â Naturally, you would not consider this bar a true roadhouse as I hardly see Buchtel as a main road or highway nor is South Pearl St on any city limit, however, the bar meets the remaining requirements of a true roadhouse on all fronts. Â There was gambling (card playing none the less), drinking, eating, and soon to be dancing as the roadie of that nights band was setting the stage and hauling in equipment.
I was a bit reluctant on coming here as I am hardly a biker, which I could tell would be majority of the clientele by the multiple Harley's lined up at the entrance of the bar. Â The interior was a bit rough but had character to say the least. Â
The waitress was flirty and friendly offering up some suggestions of New Orleans beers, which were unfortunately not on the happy hour menu. Â We ended up ordering a light amber called Jazz by Dixie Brewery in New Orleans along with a few appetizers between us including the grilled Cajun sausage and the Cajun popcorn which is battered and fried crawfish tails. Â The beers were nothing outstanding to stray from the happy hour menu for our next round, but the food fared much better as they both were substantial in size. Â Me being a huge fan of Creole and Cajun food, the Poisson Hymel caught my eye which is blackened catfish surrounded by crawfish etouffe, but unfortunately had plans elsewhere for dinner. Â
Overall, they do a pretty good job at pulling off the roadhouse feel, and even more so, provide some good entertainment and food.
Went here after Izakaya Den to celebrate my birthday. I am soooo bummed no one ever told me about this place before!
I am a huge fan of great dive bars, especially when they have live music. And this place delivered! Great drinks, great service, and great crowd.
I can't wait to go check out some local bands here in the near future!
A friend who lives in the neighborhood introduced me to Lincoln's, and I'm glad he did - it's not fancy, but it doesn't try to be. The food is solid, very reasonably priced, and always tasty. I usually get the grilled shrimp po'boy, but the shrimp bruschetta is tasty as well, and the side salads that you get with the beans and rice are very fresh. They have Easy Street and 90 Shilling on tap, and the bartenders and waitstaff, while not always overtly friendly, are attentive. The wood paneling makes you feel like you're in your childhood basement, and the people-watching is always good.
The only con is that the bands are hit or miss, and the place is small, so if there's a band there and you're anywhere near it, you won't be able to hear yourself think, let alone talk to anybody else at your table - but generally there's no cover, which is nice.
How do I love thee, let me count the ways:
1. Â World's best staff. Â Sure, the bartenders look like they got knocked a round or two out back on their way in, but they're funny, polite, and bad-boy charming. Â The waitresses, while beautiful and sexy, still do "nice" very well.
2. Â Strong, cheap drinks. Â Isn't that the tell of a good bar?
3. Â Great crowd. Â Last time I was there, I saw: 10 Rugby guys, 9 Salon workers, 8 Restaurant Managers, Â 7 Bikers, 6 divorcees, 5 Ninjas, 4 Aspiring Models/ Waitresses, 3 Cowboys, 2 DJs, and only 1 Salesman...
4. Â Never tried the food, but I hear it's great!
5. Â The owner, Jimmy? is hilarious! Â Ask him about Color TVs in a car.... good story.
6. Â They dance. Â I don't know which nights, but there is dancing, and the regulars there are lovely dancers.
Fried pickles, Fried pickles, and Fried pickles. Â And the chip kind. Â It's like eating the bastard son of a french fry and a cucumber. Â And those bastards taste gooooooooood...
The food here is not what you'd expect from a bar with cheesy wood-paneling. Â I have never even seen a pot roast burrito on the menu anywhere else. Â And it was more delicious than I could have ever imagined. Â Take your mom's pot roast and add some non-standard burrito fixins (romaine lettuce grows in mexico?) for a food experience that defies explanation. Â Especially when you smother it with the green chili. Â Your mom never tried that. Â Or at least that's what she said this morning...
When I sat at this bar with Mary Jo last Friday I had the overwhelming feeling of really liking this place. Sometimes I just get that feeling immediately, before I've eaten or drank anything, before the staff has really interacted with me. I chalk it up to atmosphere, to a place that immediately makes me feel welcome by its sheer demeanor.
Then when the sassy bartendress served up a mimosa using a whole split of champagne (really the best way to have a mimosa you know) and only charged me $5 I had the overwhelming feeling of love for this place. I feel like I've been missing out on some super cool secret because I'm not a regular here.
I had a BLT served on nice thick Texas Toast that was just lightly browned, with 3 tomato slices on each side, and plenty of bacon. It can with fries for a little extra. They were delicious - nice and crispy on the outside, soft and hot on the inside. Much better than most bar food I've ever had.
We stayed while the lunch rush began. Not surprisingly there were a ton of regulars, a lot of them men. MJ and I got some awesome tips about other dives we need to visit from the friendly people sitting at the bar around us. And I left feeling happy, full and a desire to return fairly soon and pretty often.
I am finally figuring out that since the smoking ban went into effect I am starting to enjoy dive bars more and more. Today was no exception. I met Ms. Tiffany C right at 11:00 am; we were so on time that the doors were still locked. When opened, I asked if they were serving Bloody Mary's and our bartender made the doi look and I knew we had found another gem in our city and another outstanding bartender.
I loved the Roadhouse, it is clean and cozy. The fireplace is outstanding for us geologist types as it is petrified wood; there is also petrified wood around the bar. My Bloody Mary was flavorful and really did not need an extra shot of heat although I was given several bottles of hot sauce to spice it up.
And best of all, the food is really good. I had the daily gumbo. It actually had okra and the correct seasonings!!! The daily special was an 8 oz blackened catfish with hush puppies and it sounded equally as good. Â And the clientele, mostly regulars, were really friendly and our wonderful bartender bantered along with the guys in step. I can see how The Lincoln Roadhouse is home to many.
If you ride a motorcycle, you probably already know about Lincoln's Roadhouse. Part biker bar, part local neighborhood hot-spot, what I like best about Lincoln's roadhouse is the live music, friendly atmosphere and delicious fried pickles. Even on non-music nights, the vibe is warm and inviting.
The food is a mix between diner food and bar food. It's cheap, greasy and oh so delicious with the cold cold beer they have on draft. And you'll need that cold beer to refresh your parched throat if you get up the nerve to dance to whichever local talent is on display that evening. I had the pleasure of seeing Tyrin Benoit and the Shuckers here and it was a memorable night. Most other times, I don't really even know who's playing, but that doesn't keep me from having a great time!
this is a great place to go where you won't get judged no matter what you wear, how poorly you dance, or how drunk you get. Â I have seen it all here from 60 year old men in short shorts and slippers asking every woman in the bar to swing dance , to women in one piece hot pink lycra unitards shimmy shaking all alone. Â It's quite the place to people watch!
The regulars are mainly a Harley riding "bikers", but very little if any gang stuff. Â The rest of the crowd is dependent on the band. Â I suggest catching The Informants, or Easy Bill on a Sunday afternoon if you want to hear some good music and see some great dancing (along with the shimmy shaker of course). Â Â If the Bronco's are playing the TV's will be on too, so you can have a bit of sensory overload trying to watch the band while your eyes migrate to the TV. Â
Ladies - there is a secret stall in the bathroom that I didn't know was there for the first year or so that I have gone! Â it's not just a single toilet bathroom. Â ;)
The food is damn good too! Â My favorite is the Cheeseburger meatloaf sandwich with curly fries. Â Good tasting and good for you!
