Great neighborhood bar and great patio.  Their food is decent but they could do some extra happy hour specials.  This is a great spot to go out to after work on a Friday night or any day of the week. :)

We love this place!!  Great beer selection and great specials!! And the food is VERY good, especially the cottage pie!!  The atmosphere is awesome as well.  They have darts, pool tables, TVs, and a great patio.  The service is great too!  Definitely recommended for a quick drink, meeting with friends, enjoying the nice weather, catching a sporting event on TV, or watching the great bands that play there!

Our normal haunt was packed to the rafters but we still wanted pub food, so we came here.

Beer on draft selection was ok, but they pulled a good Guinness.   Solid bottle selection, though.

Food was fine, too.  Fried brie with cranberry chutney was really good, the rest of dinner was...it was fine, no complaints, no real praise, either.

For a 7 on a Thursday, it was really quiet and there was barely anyone there.  At least we didn't have to yell across the table.

I don't think we'd go out of our way to come back, but if we needed a back up after a back up failed, I think we'd have no problems coming back to the Lion & Crown.

Had a great night with a very demanding party of 10.  Our bartender, Jimmy, was personable and attentive. I will go back!

after the bad service experience at mucky duck. my friend and I went here. It was awesome. we sat down and immediately a guy named Dan was ready for our beer order. A nice guinness was poured and then wanted our food orders. My buddy had the fish and chips and really liked them and i had Bangers and Mash. they will be pulling business away from mucky duck, but it will be for service as well.

I've been to Lion and Crown many times during my tenure at Post Addison Circle but I have to say that the new management is keeping me a fan.  Since they took over in December, they have added multiple TVs and a new sound system to make the experience that much better.  They have improved the wait staff and offered better drink specials.  The one think that they didn't change is the no smoking indoors policy which will lead to them continuing to pull people away from Zen/Mucky Duck.

I'm giving his typical British pub four stars, when most are usually a two or three at best, because it's nice and clean, tastefully decorated with lots of big windows, has outdoor seating and is situated on the northeast corner of the lovely Addison Circle.   I met a BF for lunch on a mid-weekday, which was really nice for several reasons.  It was a beautiful 69 degrees outside, the pub was fairly quiet and the waiter was very attentive.   We had some great pub grub of bangers and mash and fish and chips, a side salad and well-mixed appletinis.   We sat outside, enjoyed the fresh air and had a great time.   Inside, there's a great looking bar, leather couches, a fireplace and the typical bar table/chairs.  For whatever reason, this pub just looks a little more upscale than what you normally run across.   Look forward to bringing my Scottish hubs by for a pint or two.  :)

Stumbled on this place visiting Addison and it was exactly what we were looking for.  Great comfort, English pub style food; really good selection of beer on draft.  We sat by the fire on comfy couches and watched football for quite a while.  It felt like we were visiting a friend's house.  Staff was really friendly and helpful.  We felt right at home!

I like the pub itself. Big space, lots of seating with a view of the TV, pool table in one of the back rooms, and a patio to chill (& smoke). I read the reviews first so I wasn't expecting 5 star service. This place gets a low grade due to the food. It's really gross. Trust me.

We ordered a french onion soup, shepherd's pie & fish and chips. Pretty standard bar/pub food. I didn't have the highest expectations honestly but the food still managed to underwhelm. The soup was super salty, the shepherd's pie was watery and flavorless & and fish/chips were just sad and limp. Next time I come here it's strictly for a beer.

I've been in a couple times for lunch here, and while they boast a typical English menu (fish and chips, bangers and mash...), there is much left to be satisfied.  Because it is a pub, most of the menu items come as is with other items available a la carte that can easily bring your bill to over your normal lunch budget.  They don't have fountain drinks, so sodas are brought to you in a can (room temp) with a glass of ice.  I personally hate watered down soda, and since it's lunch I know my boss wouldn't be too thrilled to know I imbided the many selections of beer available at the Lion & Crown.  Stick to water of ice tea instead. The staff is always very nice and helpful, if somewhat out of sight when it's time to get your check and/or pay your bill.  They have live music on Friday nights, but I think I'll skip it knowing there are better places in town with better service.

I very rarely write poor reviews but I couldn't believe how bad the service was here.

We came in at about 12:30 on a friday night and one of the bar tenders was just beyond rude.  Asking us what do you want and slamming out reciepts on the bar.  I know people get stressed out but if you can't handle the stress of the service industry its probably time to get look into a new profession.

It wasn't crowded and we weren't rude but I was really put off by her attitude.  Another bar tender came over and was much more pleasant.  She apologized and said that the other girl was having a rough night.

Still, doesn't excuse her copping an attitude when all we were trying to do was get a beer.  Will never come back here again.

I have read through the reviews and don't understand why everyone is complaining. The biggest complaint is about no waitresses... This is a bar not a restaurant. Go up to the counter and order a beer. The food portions are small? Again, this is a bar not a restaurant. The food is supposed to be something to munch on, not a 5 course dinner. This is a great place with great food and even better beers. Enjoy it for what it is supposed to be!!!! Cheers!!!

Horrible. Slow. Overpriced. Those are just a few words I would use to describe this bar. Its not uncommon to wait almost thirty minutes to get a few beers, when there are only a few people there. Their mixed drinks are also extremely overpriced. I'd rather drink at my grandmas house.

I ran across this place by chance and decided to drop in for a cold beer and a bite to eat because it looked like a neat place and was something different.  I would say there was about 5 to 10 people, including us, in the entire place on a Saturday night, with a jazz concert going on outside.  Should have been a red flag, as there is no visual reason this place shouldn't be packed being in Addison and in the middle of apartments.  My guess the reason nobody was there is because of the service.  With the place empty, it took several minutes for someone to come over and take our order.  We ordering two obscure beers (which I kind of think it part of the allure of this place) and placed our order for some food.  The menu is of a European influence.  We got the fish and chips and the Bavarian plate (two sausages, sauerkraut, red cabbage, fries).  I will say the food was good, very good in fact, but the plates were very small.  I would say the Bavarian plate would be more of an appetizer that two people could split.  After the meal, we waited...and waited...while the waitress walked by us twice (at least).  Finally we got our check, that was over $30 for two beers and dinner, at a bar, with small portions.  I think it is most unfortunate that the service is so bad and the portions are so small, because I think this could be a really neat place.

I've been to L&C 4 or 5 times in the past 6 months.  It's cool on the inside for an Addison "pub".  The service is usually good, but not great.  Last week they were out of 3 of the beers on their list that I asked for.  I haven't eaten here yet so I don't know how their food is.  Overall, it's an OK place to go if you live nearby and want a faux pub that isn't very crowded.

Although I agree with a lot of previous reviews, I really enjoy this place, most of all for the potential it has. The decor is awesomely authentic and the beer options are plentiful enough. Sure, it doesn't have the selection of Flying Saucer, but it doesn't need it. The selection it does have is representative of a typical English pub, similar to The Londoner.

Regarding the poor service, they are a typical pub where the bartenders are responsible for food and drink orders. I respect that but they probably could do a better job of educating diners and letting them know they need to be more assertive.

Obviously the Lion & Crown is still lacking a steady customer base but on a strong night the atmosphere is vibrant.

The reasons I don't give it 5 stars is because they don't open early on the weekends for European soccer games and I've been unimpressed with happy hour specials.

I recommend it for sure and hope people will soon fill the pub. I'd hate to see it go the way of the great Masaryk, which existed across the street for way too short of a period!

I have now been to the Lion & Crown twice in the past week, and as someone who works in Addison I have to say, this just might be my new favorite bar in the area. Typically I am not a big fan of going out in Addison because patrons are allowed to smoke inside and I inevitably end up leaving the bar smelling like smoke, which I HATE.

I know a lot of the reviews have said that the service is bad so I was skeptical upon my first visit. As soon as we got there our group was offered the pool room because there were going to be quite a few of us and after no more than a few minutes a waitress came back there to take our order. All night long she kept coming and checking on us and we were never left wondering when we would get our next drink.

My second visit was with a smaller group and this particular time the service was not as prompt, which was a little frustrating after our previous experience. However one of the thinks I really like about The Lion & Crown is that the waitresses also serve as bartenders so if you haven't seen one in a while you can just walk up to the bar and order another drink on your tab with no hassle or worry about who will get the tip.

Both times I've been the food that has been ordered has been very good and is not overly priced especially considering the quality of the food. I've also been told their beer selection is very good. Though I confess I am not a beer aficionado and tend to just stick with Miller Lite, and lucky for me it's only $2.50 all night long which means I have yet to leave there cursing my bill.  In fact we were all impressed at how inexpensively we were able to get out of there.

I have a feeling we will be visiting this place again very soon!

This is a nice little pub in Addison Circle.  I think they make a pretty good stab at bringing in some authentic British décor and beverage offerings.  I remember taking particular interest in the authentic English beer taps; I think they have an official name, but I can't remember what it is as I write.  Mrs. B and I visited the Lion and Crown on a Saturday night that wasn't particularly busy, and the bartender Allan took good care of us and was welcome company as well.  He crafted some shots for us that he made up on the fly, and we had fun trying to coin names for that particular concoction.  I'll have to update my review when I return to see what Allan settles on as a name for his creation.  Cheers!

Well, the L & C has been open a while now. I think it has a lot of potential, but hasn't quite found it's groove yet. it still feels like they are figuring out how to do things on the fly.
The last time I was there it was a Saturday afternoon. It was rather empty. However, I still liked the atmosphere. We sat by the window, so we could watch what was going on in the Circle. They were playing what must have been a satalite radio station that played only Oasis songs. Lucky for me, I like Oasis. If you don't like Brit Rock, the pool room has an iPod dock station, so you can play whatever music you like.
I still have not eaten at the Lion & Crown, but I'm only there for the beer, anyway.
I do agree the service is kinda slow. If you're a fast drinker, you might want to order 2 beers at a time for yourself. At least it's good beer.

First and foremost this is a traditional pub.  Which means, THEY DON'T HAVE WAITRESSES.  Reading through the reviews, they are very misleading.  They complain of bad service, and how the waitresses don't come around.  That's because they are the bartenders.  As with a traditional pub, if you want something, you go to the bar and order.  This also means if you order food, keep an eye out for it.

I realize this is an inconvenience to the way of life most of us Americans are used to.  If its not your bag, its not.  That's just fine.  For me, i don't mind it, and actually prefer it sometimes.  The bottom line is, just don't be mislead, its a traditional place and they do it a little different.  You can not like it for that reason and not go, I would just prefer people go in there with the right expectations.

All of that being said, I very much enjoy the place.  I was impressed with the beers on tap, and i do think they offer enough to switch it up if you prefer, but if you want a generic domestic, I think they just have them available in bottles.

I also very much enjoyed the layout of the place.  They have a lot of areas, as in, lots of nooks and sections where you can get a group and go hang out in.  Its not just a big open room.  I prefer this general style, some may not.

Overall, i was completely impressed with the place, you just have to know the type of place you are going.  To be honest, it's not your typical Addison bar, but then again, that's why I, and I think a lot of other people, like it.

I wanted to like this place, but the service was just terrible and off-putting.

Upon arrival, it took at least 15 minutes before we were given a menu by the waitress.

The appetizer was below average, even by bar-food standards.

When we wanted to leave, our waitress was nowhere to be found. We waited and waited. It must have been at least 15 more minutes where we tried to pass the time with conversation. Ultimately, I had to go to the bar and get our bill.

On the positive side, the location is really nice to go for a walk afterward at Addison Circle, something you can't really do at The Londoner.

Many of my co-workers enjoy going here after work and I don't understand why.  A lot of money was invested on the furniture and decor but it seems that management stopped caring after that.

When you walk in there is an announcement that if you want a drink go to the bar.  That is right don't expect the waitress to come to you.  Slowly their selection of drinks is growing and they are getting more beers but they do not have the selection you will find at other well establish drinking holes.

The food is okay but I thought the portions are too small.  We order the mini corn dogs and cheese fries and honestly the portion size for each plate is small just for one person.  I ordered that because the menu was short on food items.

Granted that I went here on a Wednesday night but there are not many TVs and despite the fact that I was there with 10 people the place just felt depressing and empty.  This place is building a reputation for having overpriced food and drinks.  The patio is littered with drinking bowls for dogs.  It is a shame since the furniture and interior look great.

My suggestion is do not go there unless you have to.  Unfortunately, I had to.

As a beer lover, I was intrigued when I heard that there was a new "pub" super close to my place and finally decided to check it out.  I've been twice now and twice let down.  The first night I went was on a Friday, so I let the slow service slide.  I asked the server what beers they had on tap and I was less than thrilled with the small selection of imports.  When I hear the word "pub" I expect to have enough choices that I can and want to switch up my selection with each round rather than switching to liquor.  Which brings me to the next wah wah moment: the incredibly weak/tiny/over-priced drinks.

I fully believe in giving second chances, so I went back to the Lion and Crown on Tuesday to watch the Rangers game.  Since there were clearly no servers working, we decided to sit at the bar for optimum service speed.  WRONG.  We sat down right in front of the bartender only to have her basically run away from us to the other side of the bar before finally noticing us after we sat at the mostly empty bar for 15 minutes.

No thanks Lion and Crown, you can keep your bad service and poor selection I'll stick with The Londoner and Trinity Hall for my pub needs.  I generously award you 2 stars for being able to transform what was once Avanti into something that resembles a place where I can get a good pint.

As soon as I saw a pub had opened up right around the corner from my office, I flipped out. I love working in Addison Circle, but it sorely lacked in the pub department.

I finally got a chance to visit this place last Friday when a few of us decided to grab a beer after work. The Lion & Crown is located at the northeast quadrant of the roundabout. It's got a great outdoor patio (covered) and I think they also have a few tables out front. As far as parking goes, you can try to score street parking along Quorum, north of Addison Circle, or you could turn into one of the nearby parking garages (free).

Unfortunately there's no table service, but thank goodness they have credit card machines now. Just order your drinks and food at the bar and a server will bring it out to you. They do have a small but decent selection on tap (Guinness, Hogaarden, and Stella Artois) and their menu consists of the typical bar food with the exception of a few surprises (they had a decent selection of soups). As far as their happy hour specials go, it's actually pretty weak compared to other places I've been that offer half off tap. On a Friday night, it was only $1 off per beer (or maybe $2? I can't remember).

The interior is nice. They do have a big screen on one side of the bar and a number of flat panels throughout the space, all showing football or sports channels. I would have to agree with another reviewer that they do need to darken the place up a bit and throw more crap on the walls. I mean, really, is there such thing as a bright and cheerful pub?

The service is fair to pretty good. The bar staff was helpful when we ordered off the menu. I had the BLTT (the extra T was for "toasted" which surprised me--i thought all BLTs were toasted?). My coworker had the chicken pot pie which smelled amazing, and my other coworker had a brat with chips (fries).

It's definitely a place I want to head back to and since it's a short walk away from the office, it'll be very easy to stop by here on a regular basis for a drink and a meal.

Aesthetically this place had potential for an Irish pub, but it def needs work.  This restaurant failed MISERABLY in the most important part-FOOD & SERVICE.

Honestly, this was one of the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. From start to finish it was very upsetting.  I realize that this is a new restaurant and they don't have it quite down, but disrespect is uncalled for.

We were seated quickly and then it went downhill from there. Our waitress took forever to take our order. She finally took our order and then we waited 45 minutes to get our food. (there were only 3 of us). We were STARVING.  Our waitress was almost to our table when she dropped our entrees on the floor. Accidents happen, we felt bad for her! However, this was the MANAGER who dropped our food, and she did not even APOLOGIZE. Instead, she sent a new waitress to our table who informed us they were remaking our entrees. She did not apologize either.   We waited yet another 30 minutes and finally received our food. The food was bland and my friend's veal was overcooked. It keeps getting worse!

The new waitress finally brought our bill (we had to flag her down to get it) and my husband noticed there was a $4.00 charge for water.  He asked her why we were charged for water and she said oh we gave you bottled water. We told her that we did not order bottled water and that if they were going to give us bottled water we would like to be told that beforehand. I also think it is common sense if a restaurant is going to serve you bottled water, then bring the water out in the BOTTLE. Hello? we received it in a glass filled with ice cubes. I highly doubt the ice cubes were made with filtered water? I wouldn't have been upset about the bottled water had she informed us beforehand.  She then told us she would take the water off our bill this time, but next time she wouldn't. I was livid but was so tired and just wanted out of there so I kept quiet.

It gets even worse. She handed us our change and stated that she didn't give us our quarter back bc it was only a quarter! WHAT? That is just bad service. You don't EVER tell a customer that. Sure, she can have our quarter, but you give us the option to give it to you. You don't get to just assume we don't want it!

Anyway, sad day to pay money and be treated that way. I highly recommend that you stay away from this place unless you want to be treated disrespectfully.

I was very happy that a new bar opened in Addison Circle. The British style is you don't have a waitress but need to order at the bar which in the evening is challenging. I went the following week for lunch which is extremely reasonably price...even if you may not get what you ordered. There are only a couple fliers for menus but the food is decent as long as you are very patient. With only 8 patrons on a Saturday afternoon they had trouble keeping up. They do have a nice patio. Definitely for a relaxing day not a quick drink and quick bite to eat.

Well, they got the credit card machine.  The wait was because they wanted a handheld terminal - which is great because then your card never leaves your table.  Only problem is that they only take payments at the bar - at the single register - so there is hardly a need for it.  Worse, they can't ever seem to find it.  Still no advertising.  Still no promotions.  Still no website.  The food is still good and the beer selection is fine.  Still with the summer festivals now over and only Oktoberfest remaining, I can't see how they will bring in business without some promotion.  There also seems to be some unwillingness to make adjustments.  The owners seem nice when you talk to them, but something just isn't clicking.  As someone commented to me, they'll be lucky if they can stay open as long as it took them to build it.

I hope the place succeeds. It definitely lends a good atmosphere to the neighborhood. However, the long wait times to get service could be a major stumbling block on the road to success. Takes too long to close a tab or order anything for the matter.

I took into account the fact that this place just opened up, so they're still getting settled in.

We walked in there to witness a large gaggle of people huddled around the bar, with two barmaids running around like mad.  The sign on the front door said to 'please order at the bar'.  Now I understand this is a pub first and a restaurant second.  This is noted by their small food menu, which we could find only on the back of a sign near the entrance.  We pulled up some chairs at the bar near the decorative beer taps.  They do have Woodchuck on tap, so they get points for that.  After about five minutes of waiting, one of the barmaids said she would be with us.  We waited another three minutes for her to actually get to us (Yes, she was that busy).

"Two Strongbow, and two bangers n' mash," my suave companion said.  This is the only place I know of in DFW that serves Strongbow in bottles.  Everyone else serves them in 17 oz. cans.

About 10 minutes later a young man from the kitchen is carrying around two identical plates shouting "TWO BANGERS N' MASH?"  I hungrily acknowledged his cry and raised my hand.  Apparently we never got a number tag from the barmaid for our food, so the server had no idea where to send it.

"I'll get you some silverware," the server said to us and wandered off.

Five minutes pass... no silverware.  We see the lone server running around bringing plates of food to other people all over the place, and he brings food and silverware to a table right next to us, but before I could catch him he turned and ran back into the kitchen.  I tried getting his attention, but the place was way too noisy and he was like the Flash in a waiter's apron.  Finally I got a hold of him and explained my plight.  He had that very apologetic "Oh I'm so sorry," look on his face, and promptly got our silverware then, and even offered to reheat the food.  Our bangers n' mash were delicious.

The place is small, like most pubs in England.  The food portion size is a little smaller, like most pubs in England.  The method of getting anything is "order at the bar" like most pubs in England.  This is a traditional English pub, but they have to compete with American bars if they want to stay in service.

The place probably needs more accoustic padding on the ceiling to keep the noise down.  I'm sure they can strategically place it so it doesn't look too obvious.  Maybe get some large tapestries and hide the foam padding underneath.

They need more on staff, and to do full table service, just to get the service level up and appease the impatient americanized americans that will frequent the place.

The place itself looks and feels like a real English pub.  It has that personal feel that is needed when you're going to hang out and drink with your friends.  The waitstaff seems like they genuinely care about making this pub a great place.  If only they weren't understaffed and overworked.

This place just opened yesterday and, while it has potential, there are a few things I'd do differently.
    1. The music is too loud.  Actually, the problem is that the bass it set too high, so everything just vibrates, so it's difficult to have a conversation.  The management should lower the bass level and up the midrange a bit to make the music audible but not intrusive.
    2.  Window treatments are badly needed.  As the sun sets, the entire inside is flooded with light and it gets overly-warm near the windows.  Shades would be nice to cut down on the light during the day while allowing them to be open at night.  A proper pub should be cave-like.
    3.  The white walls.  As I stated, a proper pub should be cave-like, so the white walls are not the best idea.  A dark green, brown or burgundy would really add to the ambiance.
    4.  More shit on the walls.  Seriously, I expect my pubs to have shit on the walls (not literally feces, of course).  A few pictures here and there aren't going to cut it.  This pub needs Man U and Arsenal jerseys and stuff like that on the walls.  Make a trip down to Englishman's Antiques on Midway and stock up.  Get a fake suit of armor or something and put it in the entryway.  Maybe some roadsigns or something.
    5.  TVs.  More TVs are needed.  I know they aren't "traditional", but people have come to expect them in a pub these days.
    6.  Trivia.  Organize a pub trivia night.  Get some NTN machines.  People love this stuff.
    7.  Allow smoking.  I know it's not PC, but this is Addison.  People come here and expect to be able to smoke while drinking, not have to wander out onto the patio.  (Though I guess you could argue that the non-smoking makes it more authentic, considering the UK banned smoking in pubs in 2007).
    8.  Get those CC machines up and running ASAP.
    9.  The waitstaff needs to be more attentive.  After our first round of drinks, we had to go to the bar for more.
    10.  Some kind of sound-deadening should be put in place.  Wall tapestries or better acoustic tiles in the ceiling or something.  As it is, the interior echoes too much, making the place entirely too loud.  This is a "traditional English pub", not a sports bar or a nightclub.

All-in-all, this place has a lot of potential, but needs to have something to set it apart and make people want to come here.  Being that it's in Addison Circle, parking isn't as easy as, for example, The Londoner, so I'm afraid that without something--besides "newness"-- to differentiate it and make it a destination, it will languish.  I hate to see any business fail--especially one that I can walk to and drink at--so I hope the management/owners are evaluating what they can do to make sure that this pub has a long life ahead of it.

And, to be fair, my evaluations are based only on the "soft opening", so maybe by the time I return next weekend, a few of the kinks will be ironed out.
