My wife and I along with another couple went to try out the new City Limits. Cantina... What a waste of time... Sat at a table for four and waited.... There was three bartenders and none of them could be bothered to  drop a menu or take a drink order. It's not like the place was busy for a Friday night, about a third full. After sitting for 15 minutes we left and walked the three blocks home.
Review Source:After watching a marathon of Bar Rescue shows I decided to visit Lona's as I live in Long beach.  I have to say it was a disappointment and a middle finger to the show who put a lot of work into the bar.  The mechanical hand made piece of art that was gifted by the show is gone, and presumptuously sold.  The bar manager  chuckled when the new bartender asked if they had a drink menu, the margarita was typical, overly sweet and served in a beer glass; the bathroom wasn't just small and dirty, but neglected, and additions such as a liquor store type Peanut/candy vending machine, a three foot high fan sitting in the middle of an exit, and coasters used to balance pool table legs made it aesthetically unpleasing. It's a neighborhood bar so don't expect anything fancy and video editing and lighting can make a place look bigger and nicer... at least my beer was nice and cold.
Review Source:I had been there several times before when it was Wardlow Station, It was OK, but there were always shady characters there. You know the local type who don't really want outsiders in their bar. I never had a problem myself other than the looks that kill stares. Anyway, they used to have Great bartender but like all good bartenders they move on to bigger and better things.
I saw it on Bar Rescue so I thought I'd give it another try. Â A group of friends and I went to check it out. We walked in, the bar was and what do you know.... the same looks as before. It was dark in there. once our eyes adjusted we were able to see that it look nicer than before. but we soon notice nothing had really changed. the guy John Taffer fired on the show was back and he was bragging about it. Â Anyway, we had to walk up to the bar in order to get service and had to wait until he stopped chit chatting with his friends. After having to wait again for a second round and more stares we dicided to go elsewhere. We ended up down the street at Roxanne's. Look up my review of Roxanne's for details on that place.
Bottom line, with Lona's City Limits. You can put a dress on a pig but it's still a pig.
NEVER AGAIN, I'M OUT.
Went to this bar after we watched the show. Â We live locally. Â Looking forward to the speciality drinks. Coach talked us out of the speciality drinks "no one likes them" Â he said. Â We had two big Pacifico's and shared the Borderline Burger. Â It was good but not GREAT. Â If you go in and Coach is working expect to drink beer.
Review Source:wardlow station had always been my favorite bar in long beach, and when i heard about the bar rescue i had a moment of panic because i was afraid the bar would lose its character and become a souless loungey type bar with ikea furniture.
i went into the cantina for the first time after work last week and breathed a sigh of relief. Â same old locals, same huge beers, same awesome bartenders.
the menu has changed - same idea of what it used to be (which i loved btw!) but the food is more... i dont know, refined? Â the tacos went from $1.25 to $1.95 but i did notice that they tasted so much better - crunchy without being overly greasy. Â they have a drink menu now, and a gourmet burger and fish tacos, but it's hard for me to pass on my usual beer and shredded beef tacos. Â another thing i noticed, which is so shallow, is that the lighting went from harsh flourescent lights to more flattering soft light - i felt pretty!
i also just watched the bar rescue episode today (i was in the background with my friends for one of the "before" bar scenes!), and my boyfriend and i were seriously brokenhearted watching scenes of the bar expert dude yelling at lona. Â i want to go in there and give her a big hug. Â i think on the whole the makeover worked though, but you can tell how painful it is to change a business that so many people loved and put your faith in this crazy agro dude in a suit.
i cant wait to go back again!
If your looking for some good cheap food defenitly come here! I absolutely LOVE Lona! & Love seeing her behind the bar! Even though she does seem to be overwhelmed most the time, HEY! What buisness owner isn't? Always has a smile on her face and makes sure we are happy! I have been coming here since I was young and always loved it! When it was Wardlow Station and now Lona's City Limits, I must admit the prices did go up a bit & the portions went down a bit, but the taste is EXACTLY the same which I enjoy! You MUST try their shredded beef tacos and the wings are the bomb! Havent had a chance to watch the bar rescue show just yet but Lona did mention she has it recorded for anybody who is looking to see it! Also love watching the Laker games here! This place gets packed out full of Laker fans! Very fun atmosphere!
Review Source:Friendly people, but everyone's a lot older. Went here with two of my guy friends (we're all in our early 20's) and we were definitely the youngest ones there .. by years. After visiting the place I was randomly watching 'Bar Rescue' on tv, and they were on it! Pretty cool cause I got to see two of the bartenders from the show in person.
Review Source:We went here after watching bar rescue since my dad lives in the neighborhood, the funy part was it was filled with the same regulars that were there during the before segment of the show. The owner was working the bar still (on the show she was told she should work on the business not for it). She was nice but she had too much to do for 1 person. The food took awhile and was OK, not good or bad ok. I saw the cheif from the show and she seemed super nice and waved to me from the kitchen. The drinks were good. The staff was friendly but as we were leaving I noticed the guy who was fired on the show for being a jerk, a bad manager and a theif sitting at a table with a pissed off look on his face bird doggin the bar. Idk if he still works there but his bitter angry look made me unconfortable and glad we were leaving.
