I have been a frequent patron of this place and I always leave happy each time. Â The entree of choice for me each and every time is the Pollo Crema. Â
It is to me the best thing on the menu. Â I would strongly suggest it.
The service is great. Â Very vigilant and my drinks are refilled fast. Â
If you are in town and want some good Mexican food I would tell you that you won't go wrong with this place.
My family used to live nearby and Los Dos was the date night location for the missus and I.
Coming from a food/beverage service background in the Southeast, service is important to me, and I am consistently let down in Eugene, the city that thinks YOU owe THEM something for eating in their place. Â Not the case here.
Service is always fast and courteous.
The food is basic "hey, what should we serve up to the gringos" Mexican food. Â Not authentic make your taste buds explode Mexican, but the same stuff you would find just about anywhere. Â Definitely good enough to enjoy, but you're not going to write home about it.
Prices are fair.
Atmosphere is strip mall Mexican.
I would have giving a 3 star , but I have had too many good times there to drop the 4.
Los Dos Amigos is the best Mexican food in Eugene. The servings are HUGE, so we always have a meal for lunch the next day. The cocktails are tasty, especially the big margaritas. Our favorite dish is the chile verde burrito, filled with pork that melts in your mouth and a yummy green sauce. The staff is friendly, and the service is fast.
Review Source:I've been going here regularly for 9 years. It is what it is--OK Mexican food at an affordable price.
The good:
1) Their lunch specials are a great deal. My wife and I often spend less than $17 for lunch (after tip!). That's a great price for the amount and quality of food.
2) When it comes to service, this place is second to none. I've never had to wait to sit, wait to order, or wait to pay, and the food comes out astonishingly fast. I mean really, scary fast! They also have staff walking around at all times for free chips/drink refills.
3) The layout of the restaurant allows for lots of isolated booths. If you ever need to meet somewhere to discretely discuss a bank robbery or assassination attempt, this is your place.
The bad:
1) Nothing, really. It's just not out-of-this world food. But hey, it's good enough for me! And their diet cokes taste really good here.
2) I once got stale chips. I sent them back and received the normal fresh, hot, and crispy basket.
My boyfriend and I live within walking distance of this restaurant so we were really excited to see there was a Mexican place with a full bar so close by. We saw it was in a retail/office plaza so we weren't expecting too much. After going there twice so far, we like it. We just ordered drinks the first night (stick with the beer/wine or two-ingredient drinks if you want to get a buzz going, because the specialty mixed drinks are pretty weak, though the margaritas are ok) and were pretty satisfied. The next time we went, we shared an appetizer: the deceiving-sounding taquitos, which make me think of those frozen rolled up things you get at Costco, are actually huge, tortilla wrap rollup sized, and filled with meats and cheeses! I would say they are a small meal in themselves (with beer, chips and salsa, and shared taquitos, we were full!), and the sides of guacamole (included and delicious!), sour cream, cheese, pico de gallo, and shredded lettuce mixed together provided a delicious alternate dip for our chips! Â Each time we've gone in, they've been PACKED which is a great sign. We haven't ordered a dinner entree yet, but saw all the delicious meals everyone else was ordering, and can't wait to go back. Fun place for a casual Mexican meal or simple drinks.
Review Source:I really want to like this place more but just can't. Â The service is first rate and the place is kept clean. Â Now the rub: Â The food is typical Mex-American. Â I just ate here this evening and have "repeats" real bad and SNAP! This is what happens pretty much everytime I eat here. Â Also, I'm thirsty and sleepy, thus, they may enhance their food (I hope not!!). Â The Carne Asada is just OK at best. Â The shrimp is just OK at best and the rice and beans at best are just OK. Â Considering the places I have ate at up north in Woodburn and Canby, Los Dos Amigos Hacienda has a ways to go to catch up with these guys when it comes to quality of food. Â This is too bad because these folks are the friendliest!
Review Source:I have been going to this place for years. Â I do like the food but a little disappointed that the prices seem to constantly go up. Â The drinks are usually very weak. Â The service is usually very great however I have been there a few times later in the evening where I just left due to noone waiting on me at all. Â I keep coming back because the food is good and I like the atmosphere and location.
Review Source:This place has had some ups and downs with me. I like that it's super clean and has great service.
The first time my husband and I ate here we shared the Fajitas for Two. It was great! The shrimp were fresh and the steak was amazing!!! The next time I went, I got the crab enchiladas and thy tasted like thy had gone bad. I shared a bite with my husband and he had to spit it into his napkin. I ended up sharing his Asado Burrito. (Which was really good).
About a month ago I took my mom and we both had the flautas. They were ok.
I like the food here but I think it's overpriced. If they would knock several buck off of each item, it would make me want to come here more.
I was really let down by this Los Dos Amigos location. Â When my wife and I went in to eat, we were so happy to know that we found the same restaurant in Eugene when we moved here. Â Unfortunately, the portions of food were considerably smaller and the price was higher that what we were used to.
The Los Dos Amigos we're used to eating at is in North Bend Or. Â I know it's a smaller community, but the food is better tasting....the price is cheaper....and there's MUCH more food on your plate. Â In fact we haven't been back to the LDA here in Eugene for quite a few months.
I've really been craving mexican food, gonna have to find a new spot up here for sure.
The wait staff is very friendly, welcoming, and attentive to your needs. Â For birthdays everyone will come out and serenade you in Spanish and prop a huge sombrero on your head, hehe. Â Possibly embarrassing, yet could be fun, up to you. Â
The food's a bit overpriced with respect to not being authentic Mexi food as well as smaller portions than what you can get from a whole in the wall restaurant for about 3 bucks cheaper. Â To me, PF Changs is to Chinese food as Los Dos Amigos is to Mexi food: a slightly fancier place to eat food that tastes good, but not great. Â It really depends what you order. Â Some menu items are bland and you'll be needing to add some spices of your own to make it better, but there are some items like the tortilla soup and pollo a la crema that really stand out with flavor and deliciousness! Â It's worth going to a couple of times if you want Mexi food in a nicer restaurant. Â
Margaritas there are kinda pricey, but you definitely get your money's worth on those. Â They're HUGE and very very very alcoholic, and taste great :)
I've been here 4x now, and I have to say I'm impressed with the consistent quality, the cost/portion ratio, and the outstanding service.
I'm happy to report that the chimichanga on the lunch menu comes with both sour cream & guac at no extra charge. In my last review, I griped that their menu indicated an extra charge for these essentials, but it would seem that this charge only applies if you want an extra portion. So, for $6.95, you get a chimi with your choice of meat, beans and rice on the side, and sour cream and guac. If a chimi isn't your thing, there are many other items to be had for the same price at lunch time.
I've heard that they're opening another restaurant in the Cabo Grill (meh, good riddance) location off Gateway. I'm excited at the prospect of being able to walk from work for an inexpensive and very filling lunch.
I just ate here recently for a friend's birthday, and I was really disappointed. Â All of the food we ordered was virtually tasteless and didn't fit the menu description, except for one friend whose vegetarian burrito was filled with rotten lettuce. Â The waiter offered to replace her food with something else, but we were charged for both. Â To top it all off, six hours later I'm violently ill, and I doubt it's a coincidence. Â The food here should really come with a warning label.
The service was quick and the atmosphere was nice, but does that really matter if the food was awful?
