I really, really like the feel of this place, kinda swank, but not intimidating or snobbish. Â One of the nicer and more intimate venues for music in San Antonio, although you would never know it from the exterior. Â Only knock I have is that the three times I've been there, the music wasn't that great, but I have exceedingly high standards when it comes to live music. Â They used to have an open mic there, don't know if that's still around or not. Â I had a super strong Manhattan cocktail which always gains favorable ratings. Â The patrons were nice and wanting to have a good time and relax. I think I ordered two Manhattans and two Jack and cokes and our tab was only 21 bucks, quite, quite reasonable. Â I need to get back to this place soon and give it another chance to wow me.
Review Source:If you enjoy live music, decent drinks and just a warm environment. Decor is "Red Light Special" type, dim, seating is secluded and intimate around the floor area. Small venue. Â This is the place for you. Even if your with your girls, a date, or you just want to go to Listen to some music this place is nice. They have different acts every night. The entry price is always low. Dress is casual and semi dressy. Good chill spot. Great Date Spot!! Go check it out
Review Source:If you live, or are visiting, San Antonio (or anywhere within 100 miles of Luna), AND you like quality music and cocktails in a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, an evening at Luna is a must-do. Â
Deep red tuck & roll upholstery, low lights, classy neon and live music that is "jazz, blues, and anything that grooves," makes Luna a great spot for a post-dinner drink on that special date or a night out for when you're feeling the need for some grown up time. Â Generally no food, although they sometimes have some bar food available. Â Great drinks and service. Â No smoking which to me is a plus.
The music varies in genre but it's always quality.
They opened 8 years ago and have added greatly to the area's music scene.
As good as you will get in town as far as bar/lounges go that offer up live music. It is small inside but has a very cool ambiance. We got there a lil after midnight and we were lucky enough to get in for free. I believe the name of the band playing that evening was Money Chica. Great music, good drinks and great atmosphere. I will def be making my way back here soon.
Review Source:Based on a Wednesday night visit:
What a nice change of pace to the typical hustle and bustle of a normal nightclub. But if you like large crowds, pompous security, and loud music, then this place isn't for you. It's the exact opposite.
There was plenty of seating. Whether you're with a date or with a small group of friends, there didn't seem to be a shortage of seats and the "dance floor" was sparse except for maybe one brave soul every now and then. Then again, I went there on a Wednesday night. I'm sure there's more people that fill it up on the weekends.
There was no security based on what I saw. The clientele was a very mature audience, with the average age being around the mid to late 30s, so security didn't seem necessary, especially when a Latin band named "Border Palace" plays flamenco music.
The tone set by the Latin band "Border Palace," as well as the man painting on the side of the stage, made the ambiance very relaxing and pleasant. A nice way to end the day and definitely a great place to bring a date, for if the date isn't going well, the free nachos definitely makes up for it and the music is also great as well.
Overall, I'm definitely planning on coming back to this establishment. It radiates a positive vibe based on the clientele, the music, and the ambiance. A great place to take your date to on the weekdays or a great place to listen to some amazing, smooth Latin music.
Luna was all we could find that came close to fitting our taste for a spot to chill and listen to some live grown folk music. First of all i was shocked when i emailed a question to the place and someone actually emailed me back. that deserves a star ...There is a cover charge but they were serving FREE Italian meatballs  to all of the guest. thats a nice little perk eventhough they were not anything to write home about... but they were  free for goodness sake. the staff was very friendly. the guest band was Karl Morgan. they were entertaining for a while - especially the drummer. then his vocals started getting kind of repetitive. my wife thinks he probably should add an additional singer to his performance. overall its a nice little spot to chill.
Review Source:Very Neat !!!!!!!
San Antonio is pretty plain and needs to take pointers from Austin. However this bar was a nice treat!!! Very NON-San Antonio. The band we saw two weeks ago was very good. I could not remember the name but it was a wonderful experience. I cannot believe its been around for several years and I never had heard of it. Awesome DECOR !!!!!!!!!
If you have ever said to yourself, "I desire a sit-down music nightclub offering unpretentious, laid-back comfort," please stand up while I applaud you for your eloquence and refined taste. For those of you who now, come to think of it, do desire a sit-down music nightclub offering unpretentious, laid back comfort, look no further!
Self described as "a sit-down music nightclub offering unpretentious, laid-back comfort" (surprise!) and "designed with musicians and listeners in mind," Luna lives up to its website's claims. This hidden gem is located in a rather humble looking strip on San Pedro, south of 410. Inside, you'll find romantically dim lighting, a full bar (complete with bartenders and nightly specials), beaucoup classic album art adorning the walls, free snacks (yes, FREE! Had some legit meatballs there, once.), red velvet chairs, and really excellent musicians.
You can check out Luna's frequently updated online calendar to plan a visit around a specific group or artist, but honestly, in my experience, the musicians are all pretty great. This joint is open Wednesday through Saturday starting at 9pm, and is free and open to 18+ on Wednesday and Thursday. (There's a $7 to $10 cover on the weekends that varies depending on who is playing.) My personal favorite night to visit Luna is on Wednesdays, when a group called Border Palace typically lays down some wicked Latin acoustic beats from 9:30pm to midnight.
In conclusion, I deem Luna to be appropriate - nay, IDEAL - for:
--a pleasant night out with people who appreciate quality music and a relaxed but classy ambiance (and great news: Luna will even let you bring a cake in and celebrate your birthday),
--impressing friends (or coworkers? Parents? Frenemies?) with your hip, insider knowledge of the San Antonio music scene, or
--going on a sophisticated yet safe date (because if the free meatballs begin to seem more interesting than your date, you can at least count on the music being worth your time).
i LOVE Luna! Started going a few years ago and wish i could frequent this place more often. i am never dissapointed in the out of town acts that come through here and i can't comment on all the local acts although i know of some of them from the "scene" and they're some good peeps. Music varies from soul and R&B, some Latin flava, jazz (of different sorts) and blues. Ladies feel free to don your favorite dresses, hats, heels and purses for this is non smoking joint! This makes a great date place to hit up for a night on the town as there is a dance floor to kick up the romance a bit, but also is great for just the casual hang out session while listening to some great tunes. Cover is usually $5-$10. Drinks are moderately priced and the service has always been great! Love you Luna and your monkey logo too!
Review Source:I have been here about 3 times or so. One of the ocassions was New Years Eve. Its a small bar which does not permit smoking (I love that!) and has good drinks. I have never had problems getting a table here but would recommend that you arrive just a tad early to ensure that you will be seated. It does get crowded here. Remember, its  a small place!
The servers are fabulous. My then-boyfriend had drinks with the band a few years back and they remembered him so it was nice to know that they make a genuine attempt to get to know their audience. NOTE: they do rotate the bands that play here. I've had nothing but good experiences though!
This is a great place to go for some live-music and a drink or two. As far as pricing goes, the drinks are average priced and there is a cover charge. Normally I am against bars charging cover because people should spend their money on drinks, not bouncers, but being as the band has to be paid I can understand why this place would charge cover.
Its located in a strip mall but Luna does NOT give off a cheap-o strip mall vibe at all. Its  a classy establishment run by great people. Luna stays glam without giving off a stuffy feel. I'd like to go back soon.
A very pleasant alternative from a lot of music venues in town. The night I went the reggae-influenced band whipped out a couple of sets of very tight  tunes that had the joint popping. A smoke-free environment, Luna has a hipster vibe without the pall of cigarette smoke permeating your pores. Easy-going wait-staff cater to your drinking needs. Mine was beer, and at $2.75 a bottle seemed more than a bargain considering the good time we had. A mostly young crowd was on hand that quickly filled the place prior to the band's start time. Luna has a decent sized dance floor for those that shook their groove thing. I would definitely come here again.
Review Source:A definite recommend. Â It's located I'm a strip mall that leaves something to be desired, however when you walk in, it feels like a totally different world. Â The interior is decorated nicely. Â There's a small dance floor and plenty of comfy seating. Â The crowd ranges from 20's to beyond. Â Drinks and service was excellent with attentive bartenders. Â Got to try the bloody mary there! Â They play live jazz music if that's your thing. Â There is a cover charge. Â Great place to chill with friends and a romantic date.
Review Source:Wow, checked out Luna's last night and somehow they seem to have gotten even better! The best Jazz club in town hands down. Went to see "Brownout" out of Austin. Latin jazz infused with rock, excellent 9 piece band with horns too! Luna's staff was great as were the drinks. Very comfortable seating. Sound was perfect. This is a no smoking venue which is nice too. Thanks Luna's for a beautiful evening. Also a shoutout to Brownout. I'll be hunting down your CD's for sure.
Review Source:I definitely enjoy going to Luna. The live music is awesome. I agree with Becky T. in that it's a gem in a normal looking strip mall. Be aware that most of the time there is a cover but once you go there and feel the ambiance you wont care. It can get a little over crowded, especially when there's a great jazz band playing which is usually the case. You'll definitely find an array of people here. I've been there when the majority of people are in their 20s and other times when I see more wine glasses then beer glasses. The main area of the bar is filled with little tables and at the back you'll have a more booth like area. The drinks are good and they usually have some good drink specials. If you decide to sit down at one of the tables don't worry about getting your drinks because they have a really nice wait staff there. One of the other great things about Luna is the fact that they do not allow smoking inside the club. I can't stand it going home smelling like cigarettes and I'm a smoker. It's a fantastic place to go if you want an intimate night out and an even better place to go if you love jazz.
Review Source:Love this place. Â Once you walk in you forget that you're at a strip mall in San Antonio. Â It's very intimate with a loungy decor and a very diverse crowd of 20-somethings to AARP-card carriers. Â We saw a rhythm and blues band there and they were awesome, and the sound quality at the place was really good. Â Table service was spotty but it was easy to grab drinks at the bar. Â Fun place for a romantic night out or to just hang out with friends while listening to good music.
