P.S. I don't understand why Madvek's Dog House (aka Madvek's Hot Dogs) is in the category marked: Burgers.
I decided to stop by Madvek's on my way home from work today. Â I hadn't been in there in a while, but that's okay, because nothings changed. Â It's like coming home after vacation. Â Ahhh...
The Polish I ordered was great, as expected. Â I'm used to sauteed onions and mustard on mine, and they use raw, but that's okay, it was still good! Â They don't add salt to their fries, so that's okay too...
And the best part is, I walked in wearing my bib overalls (I work for the railroad), work boots, and no one looked twice at me. Â This is a great blue-collar, working neighborhood, hot spot.
Fast, friendly service, and they list the wait times for you based on what you order. Â PLUS, PLUS, PLUS... Â While you're waiting you can snack on Oreo's and other cookies that they place out for you! Â :-))
Hello, FOOD SNOB here.
I'm still looking for that great Chicago style Hot Dog stand in N W Indiana. Â This is Not it. Â I wonder why this place has been around as long as it has. Â Maybe it's the cheap prices. Â that's why you get what you pay for. Â I ordered a hot dog with everything except ketchup of course. Â All I got was muster and relish on a bland Hot Dog.
Their Burgers are nothing to get excited about, but that's just my opinion. Â But an opinion from somebody who really believes he knows food from Hot dogs to French cuisine.
I have been coming here for years and it hasn't changed a bit which is good in my eyes. Its a family run business that offers your typical hot dog place menu and everything is by Vienna beef which is a plus. Their hot dogs are great and the hamburgers are not your typical burgers they are made from ground beef. In Their very limited  menu  offers your typical appetizers like cheese sticks and mushrooms. Everything is a reasonable price but the best thing about this place is the friendly service and attitude. I never had a bad customer service experience there everybody is very nice and helpful. This is one local establishment that needs to stay around and given patronage.
Review Source:A cheeseburger and cheese fries at Madvek's was a favorite lunch while I was in high school, and the quick service made it a fun little break before we had to drive back for afternoon classes. Â The waitresses were sassy and fun, the jukebox nostalgic, and the crowd varied - steelworkers, teachers, students, office workers, postmen, everyone you could think of would crowd into this place to get their fill. Â A fantastic little lunch place and definitely worth the stop!
Review Source:Ahh, the loose-meat hamburger. I don't know who invented you, but I'd sure like to give them a pat on the back.
Madvek's is known as being one of the *few* diners in the Midwest that specialize in the loose-meat hamburger. It's probably been in Hammond since Lord knows when and has remained a staple for hungry blue collar workers and quirky hipsters forever!
In case you're looking for an FYI on the loose-meat hamburger, I'll put it quite simply. It's ground beef in its broken form, sauteed with some chopped onion and butter. Pile it on a bun and you've got yourself a loose-meat hamburger, sir! As for the taste, think White Castle sliders.
Madvek's makes their l-m burgers to a T. I can't say anything bad about them. As for the rest of the menu, it lacks creativity. Pizza puffs and mozzarella sticks and anything else that is flash frozen is about as broad as it gets, but if you're just there for a few burgers, you should be set.
If you order a cheeseburger, they do use cheese sauce instead of a slice of cheese. Me, I'm not too concerned about this since I could hook cheese sauce up to my veins and be happy, but if you're a stickler, then just order a regular burger.
One other downside to Madvek's--these burgers ain't cheap! I think a single burger can ring up and 3 clams!
