This is a safe place to take a large party. They have the family style menu and it's so convenient and cost effective in my opinion. It's a chain so it's very consistent whichever location you go to. Service is great and prompt.
I love the lighting, the booths, the wood, etc. Even the pictures in the walls are great. I picture myself dining with Sinatra. It has that old school Italian nostalgic kind of feel.
My favorite thing on the menu is their spumoni. Hands down.
Great atmosphere for an intimate dinner among close friends, family, or significant other. Low lighting, soft music, great furnishings. The staff has been friendly and excellent each time I have been there. The food is great as well. Expect to be full and take some food home, as their portions are quite large and fill you up quickly. Their cheesecake is phenomenal. Their mints at the host station are delicious as well.
Review Source:First time I have visited Maggiano's. Â It was my cousin's birthday, and this is her favorite restaurant.
As soon as we met the group at the bar, the pager sounded. Â They led a group of eight to a table that barely fit six. Â We refused to sit there, and were told we would have to wait for another table. We had reservations.
I went to the bar for a beer for my wait. Â I was second in line at an empty bar. Â After assuring me he would be just a second then skipping over me (cash in hand) to help two other patrons who just walked up, I finally got my beer fifteen minutes later.
For the price, I expect better service that we were offered that night. Â The food was just average. Â
I would not return, as there are far better Italian restaurants in town (Buca, Vito's, even.....dare I say it.... Olive Garden)
We live close, so we've tried many times.  The atmosphere is good, light and clean.  Their menu is great and their pasta special (2for1) is great. My problem with 'all' their food is that they substitute salt for flavor.  The salt just drowns everything out.  The days of heavily salted foods is pase'. Today most people want healthy food and would rather  have quality than quantity.  Our last experience was a family celebration in my honor.  The service was extremely slow, way too long, and some had to rush off before dessert.  When the waitress came to clear plates and order dessert (and bring complimentary dessert to me) we were all getting up to leave asking for our check.  She told the manager that apologized and gave me a gift certificate.  --more salty food??
Review Source:Went with some friends we were quickly seated. The portions were plentiful, & they also have a buy one take one home with the classic pastas. I got the lasagna & it was very good. I was with three friends & no one complained about their food. The table cloths were very long which made it awkward when trying to get up (felt like I was going to take the table out). Wait staff was nice however; after we paid the waitress didn't come back although we stayed for another thirty minutes or so. I would def go back again.
Review Source:One of our favorite places to go. Â I'm a harsh critic of Italian places, having grown up in NY where Italian was all around you. Â While this place doesn't compare to what I grew up on, its one of the better places I've found. Â Yes, it is slow but that's part of what I like. Â I never feel rushed when i eat here. Â I always go with the Veal Parmesan my wife always goes with Lasagna. Â What I like with the pasta dishes is you get a take home order as well included so plenty of leftovers. Â I've never seen the place not packed. Â Reservations are suggested especially on prime nights. Â I've not had a bad meal here yet. Â While its still not the same as what I grew up on, it works for me when I need my Italian fix.
Review Source:Sadly another old favorite falls prey to poor management and the lack luster polish of a oblivious server....
So we have a reservation, I approach the host stand the hostess is clearly seating another guest and we are greeted by a man who I can only assume to be the floor manager/supervisor. Greeted with a, "HI guys"-insert eye roll and sigh from my subconscious. I state my first and last name very clearly and he responds by saying "we will seat you here in a second Trevor." Who the heck is Trevor? Okay minor faux pas, I can overlook this, making phone reservations can sometimes be difficult. Another couple behind us checks in.
Mr. Hot Shot Big Man on Campus Manger guy after about 5 minutes says he is ready to seat us-or so I think he is kind of staring off into space. There is confusion between us and the other couple and we ask who are you ready seat. "Who ever wants to follow me." Hopefully this lack of leadership is not an insight into how you manage your restaurant...but fearfully I can only assume so as he seats the other couple first. We follow the hostess and she shows us to a table right on the other side of a server side stand at a table that my wife gives me a knowing look that can only say, "Really, the restaurant is empty and you decide to seat us here." I couldn't agree more.
We are greeted by our server who mumbles a greeting and asks my wife, "Uh, could I see your glass." As he fills it up with water. Agreed there are some tables in restaurants that make in darn near impossible to fill a water glass but c'mon! Everything that Maggiano's ambiance is supposed to be has already been broken. Server Dude lacks enthusiasm about his presentation of any of the house specialties and really does anything but inspiring confidence in your guests.
A server from another section interrupts our appetizers with a, "Are you all, going to be using this chair" indicating the one next to my wife (the sat us at a 4 top). We shake our heads and she takes it to the table across from us--keep in mind the section we are sitting in has plenty of other available seats.
And around the corner comes clueless hostess how has the bright idea of seating a fussy baby right next to the married couple that is very clearly on a date....BRILLIANT! Goodness what does it take to use a little common sense when seating?
Later that same server from the other section is heard in the background making negative comments about the people she works with...thank you to the close proximity of the hostess stand...wonderful! Later we witness her wandering around like a bored puppy staring out the window making comments about the weather.
The food was rather uninspiring. Tomato Caprese-tomatoes were flavorless, balsamic has a good smoky flavor and the basil not so good. The pastas were okay. The Pomegranate Martini was sugary and too sweet.
Our Server dude did sell us on the Berry Tiramisu, sealing the deal with the, "Everyone who has ever tried this has loved it, I have not met anyone who didn't" We took it home because by now the ambiance was shattered and beyond repair. Â Once home we thought that the Tiramisu was uninspiring, a boring vanilla. I see where they thought that the coffee might clash with the sweet ripeness of berries so they took it completely out leaving the Tiramisu a soggy vanilla cake.
It's just sad because this used to be my wife's favorite Italian date night spot, and not even because the food was breath taking but because the service and ambiance was rustic romantic and cozy. I am sad to say Maggiano's but you may have lost our business at least at this location...
Needed some sustenance right away after checking into my hotel, I hopped over to Maggiano's as I love love pasta. As stated by other reviewers, the food can be a bit expensive here compared with other Italian places. However, if you select certain items you get the option of taking an extra dish home for free.
I sat in the bar area, right up at the counter. It took a few minutes to get a menu from the bartender, but he helped me out right away afterwards. Can't complain much about the food, it was hot and filling. The bartender kept my lemonade topped up constantly and the timing of his checking up on me was perfect.
I love Italian food! I love the class of Crooner song atmosphere! I love friendly, helpful, courteous, attentive, and professional wait staff! This place has all that and then some!! As far as a good night out to eat goes, you CANNOT find a better place!! Everything from the bread and oil to the desserts; even the ice water, is better here than any restaurant, Italian or not, and I've been to some good ones.
This is my top of the list for all aspects of a night out; the price, the food, the staff, the atmosphere, and even the "bring 'em back" marketing. They just know how to do it all here!
Overpriced but decent Italian.
Food was good. Shrimp cooked perfectly. It was better than I had expected for a chain, but it was still overpriced. One dish and a drink with tip was 40 bucks... c'mon.
Service was ... snooty? Forgetful? Poorly executed? Not a fan of server's attitude.
Next time, I'll skip bringing a large party -- seemed unable to deal with our 9 top.
Loved the ambiance of the place. Will give it one more shot.
Meal: dinner
Value: 4
Food: 3
Service: -3 stars
Service stinks! Made a reservation and didn't get seated until over an hour later. What's the point of making a reservation?! Oh wait, there is no point for this restaurant.
The saving grace is the meal deal where you can get 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert + 2 take-home pastas for $40.
I would like to note that our waiter was really nice and provided great service, but the lack of efficiency at the front desk still warrants the negative stars. Honestly, with an automated system, it's not really rocket science.
This typifies why I don't care for chains....nothing terribly wrong...just nothing outstanding or memorable.
Good service...the food just doesn't do it for me...pasta overcooked in my estimation....sauces so so....shrimp overcooked...
The only reason for going was the lovely young lady I was courting touted it as her favorite restaurant....hmmmm....well...that says volumes for her taste in restaurants....and men !
Probably won't go to Maggianos again.....and definitely won't be a courtin' either !
I Â have it in my head that I love Maggiano's. But the last time I went, I was disappointed.
The bread was literally tasteless. The only reason I knew it was bread was because it looked like it.
The crab and shrimp fondue appetizer was decent, but really, it was butter and cheese and salt with crab and shrimp in it. It was basically forgettable.
My husband and I shared a main (the gnocchi with italian sausage) because the portions are Maggiano's are so huge that it feels a little ridiculous to order an entire dish for oneself. So we gorged on gnocchi (again, it was decent, the gnocchi was clearly from frozen) and still had enough for both of us to reheat for dinner the next day. Â Nothing special, though.
Overall, it was just a lackluster experience.
The next time I'm craving Italian food I'll go to Mama Corolla's.
Expensive. This has become one of my favorite Italian restaurants and I don't really care for Italian. Some of the best chicken parm I have ever had.
After being across the street at Nancy's Bridal for my friends fitting, we went here for a nice group dinner.
I had the lemon drop martini, it was to die for. It had a ton of sugar in it but was divine.
The really nice thing about this place is it does individual plates OR they give the option of family style. It is great for groups and a date night ;)
Whoa family-style dining!! Â
This was my frist visit to Maggiano's, and it was a good one. Â I went with a few seasoned veterans and we did the family-style dining. Â For around $30/each, you get the choice of 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Â While $30 might seem a little steep - it is unlimited of all of the above! Â Not only is it unlimited, they aren't sticklers (at least our waitress wasn't) about ordering more and then boxing it up to take home. Â And they aren't stingy on the portions, either. Â The stuffed mushrooms and calamari were both great. Â We also enjoyed the salmon, lasagna, and clam linguini. Â For dessert we got the cheesecake which was okay (I don't like cream cheese all that well) and the tiramisu. Â The tiramisu was good, but I couldn't really get the rum... "Why is the rum always gone?"
Our waitress was exceptional - very attentive. Â She was actually the one who initiated more portions before we even had to ask. Â
A tip - the round tables that seat 4 have extenders that flip up so you can make more room for all the plates that are bound to come!
I have been to this location for lunch before and was very pleased with the food, the service and the ambience.
This time our server was terrible. Â He was slow, scattered and un-attentive.
I really like there food, but it's difficult to understand why we had to wait at our table for over 30 minutes for our food when the restaurant was not busy (it was about 1:30 on a Wednesday) and past the lunch hour. Â It took just as long for my father in law to get his fountain drink.
We've had several good experiences at Maggiano's, but the last two fell flat. Â Last time, we went during an off time when the restaurant was nearly empty. Â We were excited to sit in a section all by ourselves. Â Before we could order, the host seated a table of eight people (including crying baby) next to us. Â They were nice about letting us move, but next time, couldn't they have put that large party and loud baby at any of the 30 other open tables that weren't next to us?
Our experience the other night was also an atmosphere problem. Â Normally, Maggiano's has a rustic, romantic vibe. Â However, we were seated at a very small table for two, right next to the server stand. Â We were directly under the a/c vents and, despite it being 60 degrees outside, the cold air was blasting. Â Hubby and I were so cold that when the server finally came over 10 minutes later, we requested to move tables. Â Neither she or the host seemed suprised, which leads me to believe they have to know it's a dud table (side note -- the next woman to be seated there actually wore her jacket through dinner). Â
We were moved to another table and had a wonderful server, Latham. Â However, he couldn't make up for the fact that the second table was again under a vent and really, really cold. Â I asked that the temp be raised and he spoke with the manager. However, the air never kicked off. Â By the time our entrees arrived, I was ready to have them boxed so I could eat at home. Latham brought me a hot tea, which made things bearable. Â However, the ambiance of the night was completely ruined. Â I had to rush hubby through his dessert before I turned into a popsicle. Â
I would give 2 stars; however our food and service from Latham were very good. Â For the love though, turn up the air. Â I'm not a table hoverer. Â As soon as my meal is over, I will relinquish the table for other patrons -- you don't have to freeze me out!
Ordered take-out over the phone, and I'm glad I didn't wait to get it as long as they told me it would take. Â
I asked for little to no oil on my spinach, and it was drenched in it. Â My entree was already getting cold when I picked it up. Â It left the expensive lunch a bit so-so.
Normally Maggiano's is much, much better, as I've been to the ones in Chicago many times.
This is a great Italian restaurant in Indianapolis. Â Although it is technically a chain (albeit a small one that originated in Chicago), it does not feel (or taste) like one at all. Â All the food is extremely rustic and honest.
The head chef is a master at this craft and does several cooking classes a year.
This location also has a cool outdoor seating area and several banquet rooms.
Pretty good, but 2 out of 3 in our group weren't big fans of the spaghetti marinara sauce. I would recommend the white sauce over the red sauce. Our food took awhile to come out and the waitress was very nice about it and offered us free desert. Also, they have a great deal with the classics that you get a free take home meal for the next day.
Review Source:My mom-in-law's favorite place for spaghetti with meat sauce, so whenever we meet her in Indy, this is where we go! Â I have to say, I'm pretty okay with that! :)
We went on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch, and it was great. Â I always enjoy the ambiance...the music is just right, the lighting is low but not too low, the decor is classy but not snooty (I didn't feel like a loser because I was wearing jeans), and the staff is always friendly and professional. Â Oh, and the bathrooms are really nice and always spotless too!
We were greeted warmly, and taken to our table right away. Â It was about 3 or 4 in the afternoon, so they weren't busy for dinner just yet.
Like I said, service was great...very friendly, eye-contact as you're ordering, knowledgable about the menu, etc. Â I decided to try the grilled chicken caprese salad, and I was happy when our server said it was her new favorite salad. :)
It was quite possibly one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Â I can be dramatic when it comes to food, but for real...that salad was amazing. Â It was arugula with warm grilled chicken (very flavorful with a little bit of burny crispiness on the edges, and I mean that in a good way), grape tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, big hunks of bread crumbs, and the best part--fresh mozzarella! Â All of it was tossed with a balsamic glaze dressing that was probably not the healthiest thing in the world...but I felt good that at least I was eating veggies and grilled chicken, haha! Â It was so delicious! Â Everyone else loved their meals as well...farfalla with Alfredo, and the spaghetti with meat sauce, of course! :) They were even running a special in which if you ordered pasta, you got a take home portion for free!! Â Pretty crazy when you consider that it's family style dining and the portions are verrrrrry generous! Â Great deal.
We also ordered dessert, which we didn't need, but....sometimes you just gotta indulge, right? Â Get the Nonna's Poundcake...it's topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and has caramelized bananas on the side. Yummm. Â Plenty to share with someone if you're feeling generous.
Yeah, it's a chain, and it's probably not THE most authentic Italian you're ever going to find, but the food is really good and satisfying. Â I think it's a great place to go if you just want to have a nice dinner that's not too terribly expensive and not have to dress up too much...you'll feel comfortable here, and leave feeling full and happy! Â Good date place, in my opinion...get something and share it...that's romantic, right? ;)
Group of 8 girls. Â We had a bit of a wait, even though we had reservations which was crappy but they made up for it by giving us a huge app of brushetta. Â (Which was so yummy!) Â Our service was great and our food was wonderful. Â I ordered a desert of pumpkin cheesecake which we all passed around with creme brulee and they were both very, very tasty! Â I would go here again tomorrow if I had the chance!
Review Source:This is one of the best restaurants for celiacs. They don't have a gluten free menu, but the staff is knowledgeable and the chef readily comes out to speak with you. They use a corn pasta for gf dishes which has a better texture than other gf pastas. They have a great selection of sauces for that pasta as well. As a bonus, they serve Redbridge gf beer. Mmmmm
Review Source:We were in town for a wedding and looking for a place to meet a cousin. This was close to our hotel. Â Made the reservation in the early afternoon for 6:30 PM and they couldn't find it when we arrived. Â They guy actually said he could squeeze us in on the phone. Â Â The young female hostess went through a whole sequence of questions, cross examiniations, etc. etc. despite a room full of empty tables. Â A middle aged host came over and seated us, while the hostess continued to look at different dates, different names etc. Â Crazy stuff. Â All the dinners were fine, and the service was good, except my wife's veal. Â I tasted it as they were clearing the table and I was surprised that she didn't send it back. Â Very, very chewy. Â Very, very C grade "Dineresque" . Â Oh well.
Review Source:My wife and I decided to use some gift cards and enjoy a Friday evening out to celebrate Valentine's a little early. Â I called a week ahead, but the only reservations available for 2 were 5:30 and 9:00. Â So we took the 5:30 and figured we would still have time to do other things in the evening. Â We arrived right on time and were told our table would be ready shortly. Â 10-12 minutes later we were seated - weird since there were a large number of tables empty and clearly others had reservations at the same time and were told to wait as well. Â
We were seated and talked about possibly getting a bottle of wine...except the hostess for got to give us a wine menu when we were seated. Â We elected to start with a shrimp and crab fondue that was featured that evening. Â It was very flavorful, but the serving was definitely small and certainly not meant for more than two. Â The waiter was nice, but several times he engaged in a long conversation with the table next to us...making us wait for bread, a spoon, etc. Â We both choose to have veal dishes which were very good. Â Dessert and two coffees later we were certainly satisified, but glad we had gift certificates because it would have been a disappointment at $130 with tip. Â This is a fun place - I think the atmosphere (and the service) is better in Chicago and next time we go I think it will be in group.
I know I can always count on Maggianos. The portions are huge and the food tastes great. The best thing is that you can request dishes to be prepared for your own dietary guidelines.
This was the first Maggianos I have been to and it left a great experience. The crab cakes are a great deal, they are four times the size of any other restaurant. They give you four crab cakes about the size of a baseball.
If you order the full portion salmon they give you two salmon fillets around 10 ounces. I think their salads are really average nothing special to it. The full portion pastas must be shared unless if you are on a Michael Phelps's diet. The scallops are delicious and is a must try if they have it for the special of the day. For the family style dining you get an unlimited amount of refills for the entrees you order. The best thing about every Maggianos is that they give you a lot of great deals.
Nice, warm environment - the bar area reminded me of a cozy living room from "The Young & the Restless" (I don't watch it, but my mom did when I was little). Fairly tasty food, though the shrimp appetizer was swimming in grease.
Server didn't realize the plates she brought out to us were filthy, with crumbs and other nastiness. Neither did the guy stacking the plates. Attention must be paid.
Can't say I'll be back, but can't say I won't, either.
I'm not a fan of chairs but I do like Maggiano's! I must say I have eaten here many time for business, with friends and family! I have never had a bad meal and I must say the service here is some of the best in town. I have held dinner meeting in their private rooms for small and large groups, the staff is outstanding! The main dinning room is large but feels very homey, you can have fun and get loud (not to loud) with out feeling out of place.
The food is all great and I mean all, I have covered the menu from top to bottom. The best way is to order family style like I grow up doing. They feed you here if you walk away hungry shame on you! I have always gone home with something for later, and that's a good thing!
Remember to eat well and live well!
Yes yes, its a chain, get over it. Â The food is damn good and its one of the only places you'l fin "family style" italian dining in Indy. Â The italian classics they serve here are absolutely delicious. Â Some of my favorites are the fried mozzarella, chicken saltimboca, and the spaghetti and meatballs. Â The portions here are HUGE so be prepared to go home with some leftovers.
The atmosphere in this place is excellent, very upscale feeling even for a chain thats not neccesarily trying to cater to an upscale clientelle. Â The waiters are all very professional and your bound to have a good experience here.
I know Maggiano's is a chain, but honestly, I love going here. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I had one of my first dates with my better half here. One of my favorite things at this restaurant is the Caesar salad - it is always made from the freshest, most crisp lettuce, not overly dressed and comes on a chilled platter with plenty of Parmesan shavings. Yummy!
I've had many dishes here and I can't say that anything in particular stands out as being my favorite, except perhaps the eggplant parmesan. I am a big fan of really good marinara, so I can be satisfied at Maggiano's with a simple plate of spaghetti marinara. Last time I was in, I had the angel hair with Joey Z's pomodoro sauce and that was heavenly. Hubby likes the lasagna. Serving sizes here are more than adequate and provide plenty for lunch the next day.
We also ate here with most of the rest of our family - 12 of us altogether - a little while back. For that outing, we chose the family style dinner. Though it was a bit tricky making the choices for appetizers and entrees due to the wide age and food preference range among us, we had a great time. The service was good, the food was delicious and there was more than enough to go around. I'd say the big hit that day were the homemade profiteroles - delicate cream puff-style pastry filled with vanilla bean ice cream and drizzled with fab hot fudge sauce. We did actually get a 2nd order on these. Two of us - hubby and brother - could barely get up from the table when it was time to leave :-)
Maggiano's is a great place to take a large group, just be prepared to wait on weekends.....the case with any decent restaurant in this immediate area.
