Holy guacamole!  I was super impressed with Mago.  I Didn't realize where it was at first then once we got here I was all like "oh yeah, I remember seeing this place"  Then when we left I was all like "Dude we are totally coming back here again.  Probably some of the best mexican food I've had around these parts in some time.  The wait wasn't too terrible,  we showed up on a Saturday night at 6:30 and got a table within half an hour.  We didn't actually get the guacamole, but I have made it before and  they know what they are doing and i knew it was good just by watching them make it.  The tacos are what we got and they were taste.  We both got steak and the lady got one chicken.  The chicken was good, but the steak was great.  I can't wait to try the others.  There was a decent selection of tacos.  The chips and salsa that they put on the table were maybe the best part.  I don't know exactly what is in the green one but it is epic.

I was about to give up on finding good Mexican food in Illinois. I'm glad we finally found this gem. Now I don't have to suffer without my very favorite kind of food till I make my rounds back in Oklahoma which is full of fabulous Mexican places. It was a Thursday night and was crazy busy. I was very shocked to see them so busy on  Thursday. Next time I will make a reservation. The prices are quiet high. We both ordered Tacos. Usually we don't get tacos but they were the only thing on the menu that didn't seem to be horribly expensive.  They were AMAZING! Best tacos I have EVER had. The combinations of the flavors were astounding. And even tho it was 3 tacos it really was more like 6 as there was way to much meat in them and an extra corn tortilla under each.  I love that it doesn't come with rice and beans as I don't eat them anyway and this way I don't have to pay for them.  The guac was also the best I have EVER had! We almost ordered 2 of those huge Guacs. But on a negative note there was a blaring Mexican band that I would have rather shot my self than listened to. Tone it down... It was far to small a place to escape that blaring obnoxious music. We were practically yelling at each other.  The decor was quite weird if you ask me. Wrestling masks? Why? The raspberry lemonade was absolutely sickening. Super strong and even after I poured half of it into my glass of water it was still nasty.  The chips were good but we don't care for any other salsas which kind of ruins the chips, I get they are going for different salsas but I feel a more traditional one should be offered. The service was okay. Overall we will be back regardless of the negatives.

If nothing else, come here for some guacamole and horchata.  Especially the guacamole.  The guacamole calls to me in my dreams, beckoning me, tantalizing me, and holding me spellbound with its creamy, spicy goodness.  Yeah, it's that good.  Although during lunch hours they do not prepare it tableside, it is still delicious, and you get a giant stone bowl of it, which can easily feed four. (Not bad for about $9.)   Not a guac fan?  No worries, since they also present you with chips and a trio of salsas when you get seated. The smokey chipolte salsa was my favorite of the three.

The rest of my meal was equally enticing.  I had the lunch portion of the Pechuga Xico, which was a large airline chicken breast, served with fried plantains, rice, and black beans (which were presented in an adorable little star-shaped tortilla bowl.)  The chicken was smothered in a dark, smooth, creamy, and absolutely decadent mole sauce.

The interior of the place is rather dark, but I got a kick out of the old Mexican wrestling masks adorning the back wall.  Service was pleasant, although a bit spotty as the meal went on.  The only negative I can point out, was the lack of bussed tables.  It was not very busy at the time, yet the two tables surrounding us were left unbussed.  I'm just not a big fan of staring at people's drying-out table scraps as I eat.  Price was well worth it.  For a beer, a horchata, giant bowl of guacamole, a lunch entree, and a Cuban sandwich, it ran about $40.

NEVER AGAIN!   My family and I would frequent this place monthly.  I would also attend girls night out here.  Several weeks prior to May 5th I made a phone reservation for 6.  I had invited my husbands side of the family who had never been here to join us for Cinco De Mayo.  When we arrived, they informed me they don't take reservations for that day and the wait would be 2 hours.  I couldn't believe it! If I had a table to crawl under I would have.  So who took my reservation? A customer??  Luckily his family was understanding and we chose another place to eat.  My family and I won't be coming back.  I will also share this w everyone I know.  They didn't even apologize or anything.  You need to better train your terrible staff

I walk into Mago Grill at around 7 on a Saturday...not the brightest idea but I figured the wait couldn't be THAT bad, right?  Wrong.  I sneaked in just before another couple and got my wait quoted at 60 minutes...right before it went up to 75 minutes.  YIKES.

I don't mind waiting, as long as I have a place to wait but at Mago, there is barely anywhere to wait.  And once you do find a spot, the Executive Chef either gives you the stinkeye for being in his way or you are forced to listen to him yell at the host stand.  Nice.  The place is just so tight with tables everywhere, and the bar is so small, not to mention that there's a lady with a guacamole cart and servers trying to serve, that the only good place to wait (besides in between the two front doors) is Barnes and Noble across the street.  Or one of the other stores on that street.  And that's what we did.

We eventually came back and had about another 15 minutes or so to go and a couple of spots opened up at the bar.  Drinks make everything better.  Their margaritas are really fresh and smooth, the mojito was divine, and the sangria was classic too (NO, I did not have all of those in a span of 15 minutes...the other drinks were at dinner, Mom).  Just grab yourself a drink while you wait, and you'll feel better, I promise.

On to the food:  Honestly, their food is SUPER authentic with some little twists here and there.  For some gringos, it might be TOO authentic.  If you're iffy, go with the carne asada tacos...it was the most amazing of my trio (I also got the pulled pork and the pulled chicken and both were decent, but the steak stole my heart.)  The burrito was good too, but is served with sauce and my man wasn't sure if he liked that so I'd recommend 86ing the sauce if you're scared.  The complimentary salsa trio is pretty bomb (there's one traditionalish red salsa, a salsa verde, and a spicy peanut salsa for the adventurous), the chips are delicious, and the complimentary chicken soup is great too.  We also got the tableside guacamole and I love that you can make it how you want it...regular, medium, or hot, extra anything, and for me, NO cilantro.  I don't like soap in my mouth, thankyouverymuch.

Overall, I wasn't sure about the place whilst waiting and getting nothing but rudeness from the chef and server around me, but the rest of the people (hostess, bartender, OUR server, the guac lady) and the steak tacos and drinks won me over in the end.

Fantastic! The mojito was one of the best I've had. I order the California burrito with chicken. It was huge and tasty. Would recommend the restaurant . The staff was friendly . The salsa was yummy. Cool atmosphere with  a mariachi band.

Something different! I love me some mexican and I really enjoyed my Mago experience. They bring you some tortilla soup before your meal and that was a nice surprise. Only suggestion would be more salt on the chips! I had to ask for salt at the table.

There is no point in even making reservations.  We went and had made a reservations.  When we arrived, there was a bunch of people waiting at the door who also had reservations that were not getting a table.  Some people had pagers, some did not.  Some people were seated who did not have reservations shortly before us, which left no open tables.  We had waited about 5 minutes and a group of ladies walked in.  They had the same reservation time but for whatever reason, they were seated ahead of us- same amount of people/same reservation time.  The hostesses have no idea what is going on.  The head chef/owner was randomly picking people and seating them.  The hostess had to run to ask him about everything.  There was a whole back section open but they were not seating people back there, until they gave away another groups table and were forced to seat them back there.
When we approached the hostess stand to ask what the hold up was and why we were still waiting, the hostess looked at us like she had no idea we even had a reservation.  I first was told by the head chef/owner that I didn't have one and showed him my phone with the open table restaurant.  The head chef/owner was standing there and immediately got defensive and rude.   He replied it was only 7 minutes past our reservation.  I said than whats the point of making a reservation if I have to stand here and wait.  His response "we're busy"  I think if had I not said anything, I'd still be standing there.   They basically use their reservation system to take names and when you arrive, they add you to the list.  I don't have a problem if you told me it will be a few minutes or can we get you a free appetizer for your hassle for not having your table ready? Nothing, he was immediately defensive and I said "I am a paying customer" his response "Yeah Yeah I know, the customer is always right", all while laughing.  He doesn't do anything but stand around and speak spanish to the waitstaff about the customers.  I speak some spanish and can understand when you're talking and looking at the customers laughing, it probably isn't a good thing.   I just wanted to know what was going on and why we didn't have a table and others were being seated when we had the same reservation time and arrived before them. Maybe instead of standing around, he should be training his hostess staff or learning what a reservation is.  In my opinion, I always thought it mean't that they "held a table for you".

The reason for 2 stars is the food.  The only good thing about this place is the food.  It is good food and lots of it and The waitress was friendly and quick.  But the customer service we received from the "head chef/owner" was absolutely appalling.  I am writing this review on every possible site possible because from what I understand, contacting the company gets you nowhere with no response.   I bought a groupon and will be asking for a refund.   I am spreading the word to everyone I know.  It seems based on reviews, this is a huge issue for them.

But again, a simple "I'm sorry, you are next, we will get a table for you" would have been more than enough.  But the fact that he told me "we are busy, it's only 7 minutes, which turned into 10 after he argued with us, and that they offered no explanation" really ruined our dinner and our night.

Yum. I loves Fuego when I lived up north but now I'm south I am happy this is in the 'hood... Some of the restaurants there are tired and this place is refreshing - heres my recap

Sat in preset table for two already with water n chip n salsa -- waiter attentive got food quickly - tasty enough (special and entree) but surrounded by obnoxious chatter from middle aged groups of women. Ok mago, not your fault but don't like the decor (masks) or cheap imported table ware from china. Where's the authenticy seems so adult cafeteria like. Drink another delicious margarita to take it in!

Flan was a tasstttyyy standout bill was 77 for two ... Not bad will go again

Finally, I got in this joint after many attempts given their confusing reservation policy. It was worth the repeated attempts. The decor is more casual than the cuisine warrants. The service was friendly, informed and attentive THE FOOD! The meal start with warm chips and a trio of wonderful salsas...it's hard to call them salsas because they're more like tasty and unique sauces, not the tomato/onion/cilantro routine. We also shared ceviche which was tasty but unadorned. I had the mole, or rather a variety of moles, which really sets this restaurant apart from all others. Not the usual heavy chocolaté garden-variety mole. These were reminiscent of my times in Oaxaca, the mole capital of the world, flavored with pumpkin, coconut and the like. The dish was accomapnied by plantains, which were a sweet counterpart to the moles. Everything we ate was WONDERFUL. I'd definitely go back again...but only at an off-time.

My first time at Mago was a disaster.  I sat at the bar for about 10 minutes without any acknowledgement whatsoever from the beyond busy bartender.  I can't really blame him because it wasn't like he was slacking on the job, he was furiously mixing drinks that Friday evening and unable to keep up.

When I returned with a  friend, I sat at a table.  The server was friendly and very knowledgeable, the drinks were good as well.  I ended up eating the guacamole, we had them make it spicy, and it was on the borderline of being unbearable for me.  It was a good value since the guacamole was made fresh.

The food is pretty good, slightly pricey but you are paying for the nice decor.

Our first experience at Mago completely exceeded all of our expectations.  It's easily our new favorite restaurant in the suburbs.  We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and were seated without a wait.  The atmosphere is fun and lively.  There was a mix of people, from couples on dates to quite a few families with small children.

The meal started with their trio of salsas (love the orange one!) and chips.  They also serve a cup of chicken soup with each meal which was surprisingly rich and satisfying.  The menu was a little overwhelming in length, but everything sounded wonderful.  We ended up ordering the specials for the evening.  I ordered jumbo shrimp in a mole sauce with crispy leeks and fragrant rice.  My husband had a steak in a different red sauce over potatoes with a black bean stuffed banana pepper.  Both were some of the best meals that we've had in a long while.  The steak was cooked perfectly.  Nothing on the plate was an afterthought.  Even the potatoes were exceptional.  The meals were a little pricey, but it was definitely a "worth it" meal.

The service was very good and efficient.  We had our main server along with a team of others refilling chips, salsa, and drinks.  All of our needs were met very quickly.  My only slight complaint was that they were a little business-like and not very warm.  However, unobtrusive, efficient service isn't always a bad thing.  We will be back for many more meals!

I never have a bad meal here, and their drinks are good too! The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is their chips. They taste like they came straight out of a bag instead of fresh and hot. Other than that, I'd highly recommend the enchiladas salsa verde. This is the best salsa verde I've ever had!, and a mango passion sangria or a El Pocion.

Fantastic restaurant!! I don't know how long this restaurant has been here but much, much of an improvement over the crappy last place that was here! Very busy inside on a rainy day! Obviously they're doing something right because it was packed on this Sunday afternoon! Very contemporary Mexican flare- not you typical Mexican restaurant! I tasted my first plantain today, was very good. I had a raspberry mojito was very good! If you wanna have some different kind of flare, try Mago, you'll love it!!

Cute Mexican restaurant.  Love the decor and the food.  They provide you with huge plates and the 3 different sauces with chips before you meals.  Few days in the week they do make guacamole in front of you.

The waiter we had was kind of annoying, he kept coming to our table way too many times checking on on, and when we were still looking at the menu, he kept interrupting us and trying to persuade us to order something specific.  He just kept talking and when we tried not to pay attention to him, he just wouldn't be quiet, eventually he left and came back and we ordered what we WANTED to order.

All in all the food was deliscious!

Can't wait to try this place again. Everything wildly exceed our expectations on the first visit. The service was nothing short of spectacular (George at the bar). Like other reviews, they gave us samples of all the moles since we were mole virgins. All of them were very good and my fiance ended up getting and loving the house mole (pistachio) with chicken. I was committed to trying their selection of tacos and wasn't disappointed. The hongos taco (plaintain & portabella) was unlike anything I have had before. I'm still craving it weeks later.. The red snapper taco had the right amount of spice to it and was very good. The chorizo taco was different than what I was used to, but not bad. I thoroughly enjoyed the salsa selection as well. We tried each of the sangrias on special and they were all very good as well. Overall, no complaints. Can't wait to go back.

Must say, every time I go I order something different ~ and I have NEVER been disappointed.

Sometimes the wait is lengthy, and if I were with small children I would probably find another place to eat.  But, with all adults, the 40-60 minute wait we had last night, was tolerable (and besides, we were not TOTALLY starving).

Circulation is not good and if you are in the bowels of the restaurant, it can get warm.  If I had been sitting at the front of the place, I would NOT have been happy with the guy who was holding the door open ~ good for the wait staff running around and potentially helpful to those farther into the restaurant, but had to be extremely unpleasant for those seated near the door.

Staff is VERY pleasant, helpful, and do not laugh when you attempt to practice your Spanish.

This place was terrible. To start a couple of us went to dinner here. That night we all had terrible case of the runs from the food. On top of feeling like crap for the next 24 hours the waiter charged my debit card 3 times and all for different amounts. Took the stupid place 4 days to figure it out and fix the problem along with stopping by after no return calls from any manager. The whole experience d was terrible and I will def not be back!

I've gone here a few times for lunch with co-workers, and it's a pleasant change of pace from the overwhelmingly American/Italian choices in the area. They serve you free chips and salsa - the chipotle salsa is particularly good - and the soup that comes with is really good.

All the entrees I've tried here have been great. (JIBARITOS!!) They also have excellent vegetarian options and a nice range of portions from "light lunch" (try the tacos) to "appropriate for 6'4" coworker" (burrito, fajita, or sandwiches), although thanks to those chips & soup you aren't going to leave hungry.

The only thing is that service is not fast. We never expect to finish lunch before an hour and a half (to be fair, we're a fairly talkative bunch). So just go ready for a delicious and leisurely meal.

I heart Mago. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the suburbs and should be your favorite, too. I'd like to say the orange salsa is my favorite, but I wouldn't want the red and green to feel bad because they're also delish. So, they're all my favorite.

If you like mole and haven't been here, you're missing out. There's always a couple different types of mole on the menu and there's often a special mole, too. In the summer, I tried a strawberry mole that was delectable. In fact, my mouth is beginning to water just writing this review.

Every entree I've tried has been excellent, but I especially love the enchiladas. The first time here I slightly freaked out about the black beans served in a star shaped tortilla. Exceeded my expectations? You bet!

The guacamole is made at the table to your liking and is as tasty as you'd expect freshly made guac to be. Oh, and how could I almost forget the margaritas??? Best margaritas around. Really. I've had many an affair with a margarita and these always have me coming back for more.

Go to Mago! It's Magic! :)

Get the table-side guac.  I promise you, you won't regret it.  Hot tortilla chips and salsa served along side... yummm.

I'm in love with their mole xico.  It's the best mole I've ever had, ever.

Knocked one star down for the price -- a little bit expensive for what they're serving.

The best place to eat at the Promenade for sure! Not typical Mexican food...instead with a contemporary twist and tons of flavor.

First right away you get chips and 3 salsas. Great drink & food choices. I had a mango smoothie which was delicious! The second time I came here was with a big group and everyone agreed that it was a great great lunch.
    Tacos are 2 for $7
I ordered a chicken Tinga taco which was stuffed so I ended up making it into two tacos (comes with double tortillas). I also ordered a stuffed poblano taco (oh my sooo much flavor!).

I really recommend to check out their menu online...you will find interesting plates like an enchilada made of mushrooms, spinach, and carmalize onions! Never seen such a choice!
Did I mention I love this place? :-)

A nice place to have a meal when shopping around The Promenade.

I ordered my typical Mexican lunch - three Tacos, Fish, Pastor (Pork), and Veggie (this time Mushroom). The fish was not cooked as the way I liked. I am so used to the small cube grilled fish fillet. Mago has a big battered chunk which was nice too. The Pastor came with chili pepper,  marinated pork, grilled pineapples, cilantro. All my favorite ingredients. The pineapples added a nice sweet touch to the combination which I enjoyed a lot. However the pork was a bit dry to my taste. The mushroom one was my favorite as I usually only get grilled peppers and onions if I order the veggie taco. This mushroom veggie version just put all nice stuff together. Light and tasty. Loved it!

The service was pretty good. It is kind of dark elegant decor inside. I felt like having dinner when I went in for lunch. Maybe should have sit outside.

I will return to try more when I go shopping there. Maybe a real dinner next time.

Mago is a solid place to stop while shopping at The Promenade. Good food and drinks at a reasonable price.

The chips with the trio of salsas is one of my favorite things about this place. It includes a little something for everyone; roasted red, salsa verde, and peanut habanero salsa. I personally love anything spicy, and the peanut sauce has a great zesty heat that builds up on you.

I have tried the pork, steak, and chicken tacos. The chicken tinga tacos were actually
my favorite of the three, because they were the most moist and tender. They are topped with caramelized onions, cheese, and an adobo sauce. The carne asada tacos were lacking enough salsa verde for me, and were a bit dry. The conchinita pibil (pork) tacos had a great flavor with habanero sauce and pickled purple onions, but again were a little on the dry side.

The first time I was here, the service was great. However, during my most recent dining experience, the server came off as a salesman. He kept pushing the specials
(significantly more expensive) on my mom and I. Once I decided on the tacos, he questioned my order and continued to talk about the specials. I am not usually one that is very critical of servers, but this really bothered me.

I will return to try the homemade guacamole, with hopes of improved service.

Nice decor, wish it was a little larger so it wasn't so tight.

The drinks were great.  We got the wrong appetizer (should have had the table side guacamole, which looked amazing).

Split a could of plates of the various tacos, all were good, the carnitas was AMAZING, but the fish tacos were mediocre at best.

    Going again, maybe soon.

    Wow!  What an amazing meal!

We visited Mago Grill & Cantina for lunch while on a shopping trip to the burbs.  From the moment I walked in, I was delightfully impressed.  I loved the atmosphere and decor.  Kudos on the Lucha Libre masks adorning the far wall.

    On to the food...

Complimentary tortilla chips served with three salsa... Sign me up! So good!

For my meal, I ordered a trio of tacos with black beans and rice.   The result: Three of the most delicious tacos I have ever eaten.   The Huachinago (blackend red snapper), Chicken Tinga, and Hongos (portabella) tacos simply rocked.  So flavorful and perfectly portioned.  I just want one now.  Actually, I want all of them. The black beans and rice were also excellent.

Overall, you cannot go wrong at Mago.  On my next visit, I will be sure to try their signature table-side guacamole.  Looked amazing!

I Love Mago. I love the 3 salsas. The green one is my favorite; it's a bit sweet and a bit spicy. Yum. The place has great decor from Mexican fighter masks, different levels of dining, outdoor patio and a few flat screens to keep up with the latest sports games.

Guacamole is good, made fresh. The Queso El Horno is super yummy and I'm tempted to order it every time I visit, however it's probably better for me not to eat pure cheese on the regular.

The empanadas are tasty and are a good starter if you don't get salsa, guacamole or Queso El Horno. All the dishes I've ordered or tried from others' plates (which is about 25% of the menu) have been exceptional. One cannot go wrong with any order at Mago. I've always had leftovers at Mago, so don't hesitate to share a dish with someone on your table. They don't look down upon you for doing that; I've done it a few times without a problem.

Drinks are also really good and flavorful. Some of my favorites are La Placita and Frambuesa!

My boss and I were in town for business and found this place on Yelp. Based on the many decent reviews, we decided to check it out.

First off, the decor! This place is really gorgeous! The bar itself is wall-to-floor booze with neat lights and a colorful background. I had an overpriced sangria ($8), but it was delicious.

The salsa that comes with the chips was EXCELLENT. I don't think I've ever been that excited about salsa/gauc before, but it was really good. There's a hot (wasn't hot at all), a guacamole and a red.

There was a soup that came with our meals, too and it was also excellent.

Our dinners were EXCELLENT. Huge portions. Enough for two, really. Mine came luke-warm, so I had to send it back. They remade the whole thing and it was HOT. Excellent service on their part. I had the California burrito and my boss had the steak something or other. We both loved our food.

The food, the atmosphere, everything was outstanding.

    Two **very** annoying CONS though:

    1) The mariachi band. Since the place was packed, we got seated right in front of the mariachi band. They were 10 feet from us almost the entire time we dined. They played for nearly 30 mins. straight and did not wander the restaurant. So, for 30 mins. we could not have any sort of real conversation. Plus, the awkwardness of three people playing music RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU almost your entire dinner...well, it really started to bother me. The band was a nice touch, but it would have been much better if they would have done 1 song every 20 mins. or moved to other parts of the restaurant during their performance.

    2) Getting the bill was slow. Overall, we were there about an hour and a half. A lot of that time was due to slightly slow service. However, everyone was very kind, checked back frequently and made sure our needs were being taken care of.

Will definitely go again if I'm in the area.

Within the ever expanding  Bolingbrook city limits, there resides  a plethora of Mexican Restaurants and taco stands.  But this one fills a previously vacant niche; creative food presentation, fresh and often unique ingredients, full bar, planned and vibrant decor...something I call Lexican Cuisine.  Because the demographic of the patron that frequents this place must match that of the typical Lexus Automobile consumer.  So nose the Lexus, or BMW as it where, into a parking space and run, don't walk, inside for some delicious food (I know, my monikers are cheesy.  But at least I try).

Allow me to dispense with my two negative observations:

    1) The service was slow and inefficient.  Although we arrived before the lunch rush, we waited to be greeted and seated for a good 10 minutes. Hard to explain away that one. And the entrees took forever to arrive.

    2) The place was full of flies.  Again, hard to explain, as it was about 95 degrees that day, and the place had the A/C blaring and the windows and doors were sealed tighter than Lolo Jones' thighs (or Tim Tebow's Zipper-I'm all about equal opportunity).

While we were waiting for our AWOL entrees to arrive, we absolutely gorged on the delicious chips and the fantastic salsa sampler, which is offered free of charge.  The bus guy kept everything filled, and he was, in fact the employee of the day in my opinion.

I ordered the Tortas Cubanos and it was the best Cuban Sandwich that I have ever had.  And the Cuban, btw, is one of my staples.  It offered a layer of delicious, highly seasoned (in a good way) shredded pork along with tasty ham, cheese, and top shelf pickle.  And the bread was fresh baked and outstanding.  I don't recall (I know, typical man) what my wife ordered, but I do remember that she loved it.  So, go early, go often, you won't regret it!

Mago is very colorful and playfully decorated, yet small. They have an amazing wall of numerous tequilas, which I will be coming back for.

A woman came and made table-side guacamole and asks your preference on spiciness. We went for spicy and it was great. The salsa comes in a trio; avocado tomatillo, roasted chipotle, and peanut habanero - which was quite different yet tasty. Their Mezcal margaritas were well made and did the job. The Peach Sangria was also a hit.

When it came to ordering the entrees, we ordered pork medallions and the coconut mole chicken. Both meats were overcooked, which is a major FAIL in my mind. The mole was green and did not compliment my palette at all. I did not eat it. The pork medallions were in a red sauce that smelled like someone had passed gas and the pork was almost impossible to cut through with a STEAK knife. The rice looked like it came from a frozen bag.

After being born and raised in Southern California, I know what great Mexican food is, and this place is FAR FROM IT. Still disappointed that no one in Illinois can get it right. I will be coming back to Mago for drinks and appetizers, but I will not be enjoying a full dinner here again.

No frills - just straight quality ingredients with some authentic (what I presume to be family) recipes.  Casual atmosphere.  I like the fact that everything is a la carte (i.e. rice and beans are available for an up-charge) because I am not typically looking to fill up on rice and beans anyway, so why get charged for them.  $10 for three tacos may seem steep to some folks, but the quality ingredients and rich flavors totally justify the price.

Only word of caution - unless you have a serious panache for spice/heat, avoid the habanero salsa or get it on the side.

We went to Mago Grill after purchasing a Groupon/Living Social deal. I was a bit put off that I called to make a reservation and they told me that they stop taking reservations at 4:30. So, if you are going to call, make sure that you call early. However, they told us that they should be able to get us a table. We went there and they seated us right away.

First, they bring out chips and three types of salsa. All of these were pretty tasty. We also started with the Rollitos appetizer. This was SO GOOD! I could make a meal of these. These reminded me of a mexican eggroll. They were filled with chicken, black bean, corn, and other things. They serve them with a creamy avacado sauce which is delicious. I also started with the original sangria. This was pretty good, but it was extremely strong. But, then again, I am a wimp with drinks. You definitely get your money's worth on the liquour in your drink. They also served us with their chicken tortilla soup since we ordered a dinner. This was also pretty tasty, but the Rollitos were better!

I had the chicken fajitas for dinner while my fiance had the beef enchiladas. My meal was spectacular! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the veggies were delicious. I liked that they accompanied with both green and red peppers. I don't normally see red peppers with fajitas. His enchiladas were pretty tasty, but not as great as mine. He seemed to like them though, since he cleaned his plate :)

You definitely get a ton of food for your money.

The only thing I would change is the noise level. It is very loud in there. I think it is because of the acoustics based on the high ceilings and hardwood floors. If we go back, I'd like to sit outside.

Also, if I go back, I would like to try the guacamole. They make it fresh at your table and they give you a HUGE bowl.

I will definietly hope to go back very soon!

Phenomenal as always! Came here with my family to celebrate my birthday. My 80-year-old mom was there along with my two daughters, one of whom does not love spicy food. My brother and his youngest daughter came along too and everyone was rejoicing.

Mago's mole sauces and other sauces run the gamut from very tame to very hot. Our waitress was exemplary and actually brought out a little tasting station of eight or so different sauces to test out. It was a huge help and everyone ordered something they knew ahead of time would be right for their taste preference.

I went with a fajita - which I rarely order - and am so happy I ordered. Shrimp and steak buried in a spicy mole sauce combined with grilled onions and green peppers. Truly outstanding.

For drinks, I had the mezcal margarite with chipotle-infused tequila with cayenne pepper on the rim. Mmmmmmm....

Righteous chorizo taco. Great soup. Mago is magic again!!

LOVE the trio of salsa with the chips and the wide array of tequila. A huge birthday hit.

Yesterday Mago really helped us get our Cinco on, olé!

Last year we drove around to packed Mexican restaurants everywhere without getting much satisfaction.  I resolved to do better this year and oh muchacho, did we ever!  I went on Open Table about a week ago to see what kind of reservations I could get for el 5 de mayo and this came up with a 3:45, read the reviews on Yelp and booked it.

This restaurant was slammed with people but you would never have known it.  We were seated immediately, had carefully crafted food and attentive service.  That's a cinco to me!

Mago means magic and Magos is for the Three Kings and both fit here.  We had 3 salsas, 3 ceviches and 3 types of fried ice cream and they were all magical.  I love the "flight" concept which allows you to try more than one.  The mild salsa and chips were perfect for me and I adored the tilapia and shrimp ceviches.  I had a chicken tamal, a chicken enchilada and a taco al pastor.  If I return, I will definitely repeat the al pastor - it was simply maravilloso.   I also tried both of their Aguas Frescas and loved both.  As if all this wasn't enough, we split the trio of fried ice cream and had Mexican Hot Chocolate.  Yes, puerco does mean pig in Spanish, why do you ask?

This restaurant is what I would call Nouveau Mexican, more in the style of Rick Bayless.  It was such a well run place with fresh delicious food.  We will definitely return, hey, each month has a 5!
