    Mainstreet Bar & Grill is located on Mainstreet in Hopkins.
    Parking on Mainstreet in Hopkins can be a pain in the rump.
    Thankfully there is a parking ramp nearby and a lot in back.

    This is a great dive bar.  Mainstreet always has super fun bands, staples like Pop Rocks and Brat Pack Radio or even Zed Lepplin.  Modest cover charges on nights with live entertainment make coming here even more fun (more money for booze).

    Arrive early if you want to have a table/booth for your group, it will fill up fast on nights with popular bands, arrive at least a half hour before start time.

    Drinks are priced about the same as other places in the area, nothing fancy here.  Food is about the same, classic bar food.  Definitely have the tater-tots.

    I highly recommend holding your bladder at all costs, the bathrooms leave something to be desired.  If you choose to wear your party pants, and have no choice but to use the facilities, make sure you wash your hands a couple extra times (just to be safe).

    If you get bored with the band, or are there before the live entertainment, there is a game room with things to keep you entertained, like darts, and pull-tabs.  That sweet, sweet cardboard crack always keeps me occupied when in a pinch.

    Big plus for this dive bar, they take Discover Card and they are always willing to split up your check, most of the time without asking.

    Always remember party people:  Be responsible and plan for a designated driver.

    We were here last night to hear a friend's band play and have a burger. The first thing the waitress does is dump an entire beer in my husbands lap as she was putting it on the table. She apologized and said that dinner would be on her. We ate, had a couple more beers and listened to the band. When she brought the check, we were charged for everything! I questioned it and they took $10.00 off, but they still charged us for the beer that my husband wore in his lap all evening! Unbelievable. The star I'm giving is for the band.

    It's a little divey but I do like Mainstreet Bar and Grill.  It has a great layout with a game room, main bar, and live music area with a spacious dance floor.  Great tap beer selection, cheap food and drinks, and a solid live band lineup.  You can make this "your place" because of the variety it offers.

    Being new to the area, we met some frineds here (who live just down the street) to watch the inaugural Big Ten Championship game a couple weeks ago.

    The place is exactly what it says it is, "Mainstreet Bar & Grill."  It does not try to be anything else--which is a good thing!  They have some great beers on tap and a stage for live music.  They have several TVs around if you are trying to catch a sporting event.  It is your quintessential "corner bar."

    The place was very friendly overall but the service was a little weak.  I got the feeling like they were understaffed.  The burgers that we ordered were a bit overcooked and came out without any fixings.  I guess we should have asked for lettuce and tomato? Prices were what they should be for this type of place.

    OK, first off I didn't eat here and usually the food is what it's all about.  I mean it's Yelp and how can you rate a place on the Beer, the service, the ambiance or anything like that without trying the food.  I guess the reason for this is I may have eaten here years and years ago but either time and or too many beers at the time prevent me from remembering the food!

    This was a quick stop for a couple of beers and bloody mary's.  Now being a meat eater I refuse to drink the blood of perfectly free vegetables so I was the one drinking the beer.  The Bloody Mary's looked very good though and the beers were nice and cold as most beers are.  The service was great with a friendly smile from a cute bartender.

    This place gets bonus point and a review period for the look and feel of the interior.  They have a big open bar and the food looked very good.  Love the brick and stone walls and the way they have the kitchen placed in a odd spot screams dive bar, in a good way!  I'll be back soon for a burger, some fries and a couple of range free beers!

    The food is your average bar food, nothing that wows. They have a great specials on Wednesday night, $6 burger baskets, $3 margaritas and $2.75 domestic taps. I had the margarita which was decent, I have had better, but I have also had a lot worse; however, for the price I'm okay with the margarita. The reason to go to Mainstreet Bar and Grill though is for the karaoke on Wednesday night. You have singers of different calibers so it is friendly to all levels. Trust me, my singing has animals running away scared at the horrible noise. No one threw anything when I did my horrible white girl rapping to Baby Got Back so you should be safe. I would say next Elsie's in Northeast, this is the bar that has most fun karaoke.

    Stopped afterwork....OK it was the second stop after work with some friends.  We were at a bar up the street and got hungry so decided to head down to Mainstreet as it was Tuesday Wing night!
    Old style comfortable bar with booths surrounding bar and pool tables in an adjacent room.
    Wings were good.  Go ahead and order the Turbo Wings they are MN spicy so anyone can handle them.
    Beer was cold.  What more could you ask?

    The Mainstreet is as close as you're going to get for a good "beer joint" in Hopkins.

    Stick to what they do best:

    * Beer
    * Burgers
    * Beer
    * Drinks

    They do free Bingo and trivia on Tuesday nights.  Win a few drinks and kill some time in a funky old Opera house.

    Mainstreet is a great place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. They have great daily specials, my favorite is 35 cent wings on Tuesdays! They also have a great beer selection. The last time I was there they didn't have an updated beer list and the waiter was too lazy to name a few on tap but all in all it was good. They also have live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

    The bar food is just that - bar food.  It isn't any better or any worse than the last batch of chicken wings or burger you ordered at another joint.  This was a take-out experience, so I have no comment on the staff, the facility, or the beverage selection.

    The mean streets of Hopkins are the closest thing you'll find to an old fashioned downtown with a mainstreet and the Mainstreet Bar & Grill is one of my favorites in the area for a few reasons:

    1)  Best beer selection in Hopkins, anchored by two Surly taps.
    2)  Great burgers
    3)  Awesome building, over 100 year old former Opera House
    4)  It is .5 blocks from my office

    What's great is downtown Hopkins does not require a trek to experience; it is only a few blocks off 169 and Excelsior.

    I mean, it's one step above a dive, but for a post-work drink and app, I really can't have any complaints.  They seemed to have a resepctable drink menu (I mean, duh, it's a bar, but still)

    They seem to run a decent number of specials, albeit predictable for this type of bar.

    But it definitely gets points for being a local establishment in the burbs versus a chain, so given the ease which I can escape here after work, I'll likely be back again sooner than later.

    The only guarantee I can really make about this place is that the people-watching will be good.

    ok wow.  wednesday nights are quite a commotion in this main street hopkins hole in the wall.

    KARAOKE. thats right folks...karaoke.  Now, I happen to roll with a good friend who can take the house down...and she really is a treat compared to the post-50 crowd singing bon jovi whilst moving themselves to tears and wearing sparkly sweatshirts.  The obligatory after works drinks turned full on shot taking coworkers group did what can only be described as a 'rousing' rendition of lady marmalade and mister hunter wearing camo actually was quite good with his choice of Frank Sinatra and The Highway Men.

    I am, by nature, a semi judgemental person....but at karaoke night...all judgement goes to the wayside and sheer hilarity ensures.

    minus stars for the terrible service.

    ps- they have trivia on tuesday.

    My friend and I just wanted to grab a quick bite for dinner on a Friday night. We both live pretty close to Main Street, so decided to wander on in. We encountered a cover charge for a band, but the door guy was kind enough to let us in without paying if we promised not to stay to see the band. The band was Teacher's Pet. I wasn't worried about wanting to stay.  I am not much for hard rock.

    Anyways, we ordered our food. The waitress told me that had good burgers, so I ordered a mushroom swiss.  It was mediocre and my fries were cold. The pitcher of beer she suggested made up for it, sort of.

    As usual, I met my three bathroom visit quota after drinking the pitcher, mostly by myself, as my companion wasn't feeling that well. The bathroom wasn't too disgusting, but it was freezing in there.  It is towards the back of the bar by the door and not very well heated. When I went to use the bathroom, I felt a large draft on my backside and looked up to see the ceiling tile was missing. This would explain the ice cold toilet seat. Not pleasant.

    We did end up staying to hear part of the band's set. They were mildly amusing and played some classic covers and few songs from the 90's.

    Overall this place had a fun atmosphere and the wait staff was friendly. I would come back, just not for the food.

    This is an okay place to see live music.  They have some good bands here from time to time.  There is a great parking lot in back so it is never congested.  They have good food, good drinks and good service!
