Great comedy spot.  If you have the choice go to the late show. Great seating, if you are interested you can get reserved seating right up front. Amazing. Great crowd the one time i was there.  Can't wait to return, drove 8+ hours from Canada to see one of my favorite comedians. When i went i only had a printed ticket and didn't get to keep a ticket stub, but i was able to get a poster off the wall because went to the late Saturday show and was able to get it signed.  $200 later it is framed on my wall. One of my favorite places on the planet.

I love this place.  And there isn't a bad seat in the house.  My only true complaint would be to up the wine selection but hey, I won't be too hard on them.  And watch out on Groupon because you can usually find this place offered during the late Spring for use during the Summer months.  Either way it's a great deal.  Get out and see some funny people!!!

One of my favorite comedy places in the United States.  I love going with my wife or a group of friends.  The price is awesome for the high quality acts.  I have gone there at least 30 times and I have never been disappointed.  Everyone needs a good laugh and this is the place to find it.

A nice and interesting night out. I must admit that this was my first time going to a comedy shop. First thing i would say is that its best to pay the $6 for valet parking (unless you plan on going out in royal oak for the night because this place is at 3-5 blocks from royal oak nightlife).Their drinks are a bit high ($5 for a bottled beer and $7 for long islands) and they do serve starters. As for the comedy itself: not bad, i personally liked the host the best, the main act was good, not great and the woman in the middle was decent, but could of been definitely better. Would i go here again: sure, $18 for 2 hours of comedy isn't that bad.

I've been to this place a few times and the last time I went really turned me off. $4.75 for a 12 ounce bottle of Labatt Blue? RIP OFF! And the bartender would only let me buy one drink at a time. LAME!  Plus my girlfriends vodka and cranberry was really weak. I posted this review before and yelp deleted it saying it lacked a firsthand customer experience. Well that's a load of crap because i have been to this place on several ocassions. I think perhaps someone did not want a negative review of their establishment on the internet.

Laughter is the best medicine!  I went last Saturday and all 3 comedians were so funny and had me crying with laughter.  I was having such a good time the night went by so fast i could not believe the show was over.

Awesome show, great drinks and wonderful wait staff!  The valet guys are nice as well!

The Comedy Castle is a great place to see talented, up & coming comedians, as well as some big names. I always enjoy myself when we go. Tickets are easy to buy online, and give you the choice of picking out your seats.

Before a show, there is always a line out the door. Staff works quickly to get the line moving and seat people. The servers are also very quick and attentive. I've always had very good service. They have a small menu of appetizers to choose from, plus a full bar and plenty of good beer choices.

We usually come here a few times throughout the year and it's always a great experience.

What a great place. We attended a fundraiser last week and was blown away by the hospitality of the staff and management.

Terrific venue and a great staff.  Some of the greatest comedians of all-time have been on this stage.  A Royal Oak treasure and a million times better than "dinner and a movie".

    Live. Love. Laugh.

I just wanted to warn anyone planning a group event that this is NOT the place to go for a good time!!!!!! That is, unless you like to be PHYSICALLY MAN-HANDLED by ROYAL OAK POLICE officers because your group was laughing too loud!

My husband's 34th birthday party consisted of approximately 14 people including his parents and our siblings and significant others (not a bunch of rowdy 21 year olds).  We enjoyed a nice dinner prior to the 10:30 show and were having a wonderful time laughing at the opening acts and the beginning of the headliner's act when a manager of the comedy castle singled out 2 people from the group and warned them to be quieter. We truthfully were completely stunned and not sure why the 2 were singled out. Shortly thereafter, one of the girls was asked to leave. Again, we were stunned but she obliged and left the club.  Our group was sitting there dumbfounded when approximately 7 cops came in and physically GRABBED some of us (myself included) by the arms to escort us out! When I tried to pull my arm away, the cop squeezed harder and pushed me toward the exit.

Moments later the show let out! I wonder which was a bigger distraction...the supposed noise from our group laughing or the cops busting in like it was a drug raid?!?!

If this sounds like a good time, then the comedy castle is for you. If not, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY (because trust me they weren't giving refunds!)

The best thing about this place is the beautiful tattooed waitress! Ten stars for her alone!

This place is a great time if you're looking for a laugh and a good drink. My husband and I have been there for a cute date and we've taken a few different groups of friends who have all enjoyed it. Every comedian we have seen except for one has been great. I'd recommend getting there early, like other reviewers said. It's the best way to get a good seat. The drinks are good and we've never tried the food so I can't comment on that. Overall, its pretty much a guaranteed good time!

By far the best comedy club in the area.  My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years. They absolutely pull in the best talent in terms of comedy clubs here on weekends.  And the Wednesday open mic night is $3, can't beat that.

They remodeled and looks great.  The bartenders are friendly and nice and always chatty if you sit at the bar.  The seating is good, especially if you get there early and are extremely accommodating if you call ahead and request a special table.

I love coming here to support local talent, and local business owners, and it's just a fun thing to do on a date or with friends and you'll get a great laugh!

    Great Venue

Nice Small intimate seating, one of my favorite places to see  Comedy.
many years ago [ 1988 ] I saw  Tim Allen here and  Drew Carey  before they each had TV Shows

Tonight they are featuring a local fellow, whom I have known since 1991
and he is bringing in his A+ Game direct from las vegas

    here is a recent article

One of my favorite places in Metro Detroit (Royal Oak) to go see comedy or do comedy at. Always have the best comedians there. They even have a comedy hall of fame with pictures of all the famous comedians that been there. Open mic nights are Wed nights. I always had fun doing stand up there and its a welcoming atmosphere. But the only thing I don't like is that they need to bump up those alcoholic drinks to at least half a shot if not more. Thank you very much!

Saw Dave Attell there on November 4th. Great show. He's hilarious. The venue was alright also. I would suggest getting there early so you're not stuck way in the back ... Also adhere to the previous reviews and use a credit card. The place is dark and the waitress will probably never return with your change with such a large amount of people / drinks. Good times though. Check out shows in the middle of the week, they're much cheaper ($10 for the Comedy Held Hostage show this past Wednesday).

Wednesday nights here are a damn steal. An hour an a half of entertainment for $3. Three freaking dollars. Parking costs more than the show. A damn beer on special costs more than the show. A bag of Dorito's that isn't on sale costs more.

I went here as part of a first date yesterday and we were both pleasantly surprised. Open mic night just stinks of "crappy comics who aren't that good". They had about 7-8 acts, most of which were pretty funny. We weren't left saying "Well, that was terrible" which, for $3, is a pretty good feeling.

However, listen to everyones advice who said it in other reviews. THE WAIT STAFF WILL KEEP YOUR CHANGE. Its shady as god damn hell, but they do it. I paid for a $3.25 Corona with a $5, to see if what others had said was true and yep, no change back. I would DEFINITELY recommend you pay with credit if you're watching the show. We didn't have the same problem at the outside bar, so keep that in mind.

Over all, a great place to work into a Royal Oak themed date. Don't let the shitty/shady wait staff stop you, its worth the trip. Just be aware that, well, there is shitty/shady wait staff.

A night out at the Comedy Castle is one of my favorite ways relax and just have a great time. Depending on the act, it's a little more expensive than going out to a movie, but way more fun. I've seen a few big name comedians here (most recently Lewis Black) and apparently this club is a favorite among comedians too. I would definitely recommend it for a date or just a night out with friends. Just relax and have fun!

You can usually count on 2 of the 3 comedians being fairly funny.  It sometimes surprises me when the headliner is lame compared to the emcee and opener, but it happens.

As for the rest of the experience, take plenty of smaller bills.  When you cash out, they tend to take your money hostage in hopes you'll just write it off as tip.  Once I handed 2 twenties and the gal was going for a $17 tip on a $23 bill (3 drinks).

When they jacked up the ticket prices, Ridley's became a once a year show for us, where we had been going about 4-5 times a year.  I know they have to pay the bills and I don't care if they gouge me on the drinks or the admission, but not both.  There are other comedy shows throughout the year that give much more bang for the buck (watch for laugh-a-palooza coming in the summer).

This place is definitely one of the the state's finest comedy clubs. I've been here 3 times so far and 2 out the 3 times the comedians were hilarious and by my standards that really good.
The tickets are usually priced between $10-$15 and they usually have 2-3 comics perform before the head liner.

NOTE: The only thing i'd watch out for is the waitresses. I usually tip really well if I get decent service. However, the two times I ordered drink here when the check came around and each time the bill was around $4 and I gave them a $20 bill and both times the waitress just said thank you and walked away without bringing me my change .
I highly suggest you pay using a card because a $16 tip for a $4 coffee is ridiculous.

In comparison to other comedy houses, I just wasn't that impressed. Everything was sort of middle of the road for me. The comedians were funny, but it was such obvious humor. Nothing original or exceptional.

I love a good night of comedy but I just wasn't feeling it 100%. Maybe I went on an off night. Looking at other reviews I'm sort of baffled. It really seemed like a long 90 minutes of comedy. It should have flown by.

Mark's is by far one of my favorite places around the D.

I've been here a dozen times and have only experienced a few mediocre comedian's and that was when my tickets were free so I didn't mind. If you're nervous about possibly seeing a bad comedian, make sure you search their name on You Tube first. This always let's me know what type of humor I'm in for -- raunchy, clean, hilarious -- and whether or not I'm feeling it for the night.

They recently made all shows nonsmoking now which makes me SO happy. Love to have a few drinks, have some good laughs and walk out not reeking of smoke.

    TIPS:
    - On the weekend of your b-day, you and three friends are eligible for free entry (as long as it's not a special engagement) - be sure to reserve a spot in advance...and maybe have a few drinks beforehand, as they may ask who there is celebrating their b-day.
    - Sign up for their e-club/text messaging service. Especially during the summer when folks are vacationing, they will send out info. about free tickets available. The emails also are pretty funny in general...love the week's top ten/joke of the week.
    - Guys out there, this is a great place for a date...maybe not the first one, but perhaps the second one. Go to dinner before hand in the Royal Oak area and walk over to Mark's. What gal doesn't like a good laugh?

The gold standard for stand-up in the metro Detroit area and the entire state.  Its only close competitor is the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase with all other Michigan comedy clubs lagging far behind (Chaplains, Joey's etc.) in both quality and star power.

Many of your Comedy Central and local favorites have graced Mark Ridley's stage including Lewis Black, Greg Giraldo, John Heffron, and J. Chris Newberg (a local favorite).  Don't expect to see Dane Cook, Ron White, Robin Williams, or Jeff Dunham to perform here, but if you come with an open mind and enjoy a few alcoholic beverages you should have a great time.  Stand-up is difficult so don't be deterred by a bad act, I've seen more good shows here than bad.  And I've always had a great time.  The more we support this great venue the better acts they will be able to book so go see some comedy!

Some tips for newcomers.  Friday shows are cheaper than Saturday shows.  If you don't want to get called on, don't sit in the first couple rows of tables.  Alcohol makes everything funnier.  If you have a pass you have to make a reservation.  If you heckle the comedian you better be prepared for the consequences.  And don't forget to have fun!

I've seen several comedy acts in a variety of different venues and I would have to rate my experience this evening at Comedy Castle as one of the worst. First of all, the woman who seated my party looked like Sarah Palin -- I really felt like her appearance was a tribute to the soon-to-be former governor, and this was the first signifier to how crappy my experience would be. The audience was full of smoke-scented imbeciles who were shouting out the most annoying things and heckling the acts. Second, the MC was a mumbler. Third, and the reason the establishment actually received/earned 2 stars was because the waitress forced us to order something (after paying a worthless $13 cover) because we did not have stamps on our hands. She was rude. Beyond which, upon payment of cover, we were not notified of this policy, so for her to demand such compliance was ridiculous. Not even the $2.25 diet coke was worth it. Will I return? Not likely.

I've been here twice, once with my mom to see Heywood Banks (when we bought CDs from him, he called us "Mother and Clone"), and once to see a couple random comics with my parents and brother.  Both times I had an absolute blast.  You really should check it out if you've never been.  It definitely makes for a fun and hilarious night.
