This place is definitely fun for a night out on Friday or Saturday. The dueling pianos are a blast--great personality an so much more fun than sitting in a regular bar. The crowd is mixed, both in age and personality--makes for great people watching. Â The staff are by far the most friendly I've encountered in Danville and drinks are reasonably priced. It can be too loud at times and the food is hit or miss. I recommend the sweet potato fries and chicken wrap.
Review Source:I still can't behind this place. The name change didn't change anything. Drinks are expensive, food is ok but not enough of it. Staff is cool.
I'm not really into the piano thing, I don't think the guys are that good.
Service is usually cool. We got a free round due to an ordering mix up so that was nice.
I think they take themselves a little too seriously with the beefy security guys with secret service ear buds.
I dunno, it's not my kind of place.
you might like it and I'm not going to judge you for it.
Not sure this place gets it right even with the name change. Â Tried it yet again even tho first few visits were below average. Â Came to meet friends who were inside...doorman told me to wait cause they were full to capacity. Â (Just a single gal waiting with no other pepple in line.) Â I asked him if letting me in would tip capacity over allowed limit - he said yes. Â Then 2 guys approach... he clearly knows them & lets them right in! Â I left immediately & so did my friends that were inside. Â Ended up having a fabulous night at another establishment close-by. Â But I always look at the bright side...the doorman saved me from having to endure McGah's dirty bar that smells of bar-rot, the poorly made drinks & the gosh awful lighting inside that place. Â Pianos are fun, but not worth the time, money or the power tripping doorman.
Review Source:I really enjoyed my time here when I attended the last YEE. Â The food is good...the beef sliders, the fish tacos, and the cheese pizza. Â It is affordable too!!! Â The best is the piano entertainment!!! Â This is the place to hangout with a date (well maybe on a 2nd date) and really great with groups ! You may request your favorite song (but do tip). Â Three people who were having their birthday were put on the spot and went in front to be greeted and we sang " Happy Birthday" and the celebrants did some silly stuff too (pretty much the highlight of the time I was here). Â The service is fine . Â For sure I will be back but next time with a date =))
Review Source:I really like this place. Â We were here for a YELP event, and I was blown away by how good the food was. Â I want to come here again, but I'll sit further from the pianos- or bring ear plugs- the music is really loud. Â I don't think that's a downside, since many people like loud music, but if you don't, wear ear plugs. Â
I had a steak, and did not expect much, and it was fantastic!!! 13 bucks for a steak, baked potato, and excellent grilled veggies! Â I think it's the best steak I've had in ages. Â Who knew? Â And I want to try the corned beef, so I'll have to go back for that, too.
The gentlemen at the pianos are very talented, and seem to be having a great time. Â They will play your request if you pay them- which makes sense. Â Pianists have to eat too, right?
My experience here was great. I came for a yelp elite event and I was not dissapointed. I think they were formerly "That Bar" but decided to make a name change to inform people they have live music and food, not just a bar. So my first time here was after the rebrand. They lots of sports playing on the TVs all around which was good for me so I could keep up with the scores. Giants won btw. We got good drinks and they have good food. The fish tacos were on point. The servers there were also very attentive to us and didn't ignore us like you can get at other bars. The main attraction was the Piano Duel. It was a great show. They played great music and even took request. They didn't play Journey so I was a little dissapointed but the tunes varied from older music to modern hits. They were funny and it was a great show. It was nice to mix up the normal routine of just going out and drinking but this time we were able to get a show out of it and a good one at that. WIll return again for another piano night.
Review Source:Wow!
The best word to describe my over all experience here was WOW!
If you have not been here, it is truly a MUST in the East Bay. This place not only has history but is a total package.
We had great seats at the bar right behind the dueling pianos. Their pianist Travis was superb! Both pianist captivated the audience and the songs played were such great upbeat versions that even if you weren't drinking you could easily sing out loud to them :)
We sang a variety of songs, from Top of the World by the Carpenters to Dancing Queen by ABBA. Such a great evening!!!
On top of the great dueling pianists their drinks and foods were very top notch. We had ordered practically all of their foods from the appetite menus. The best was the garlic cheese pizza and the fish tacos! Goes hand in hand with their yummy drinks!
The whole evening was fun and exciting!
Over all, the number one reason as to why you should try this place out when you are in Danville is because the place is very welcoming and has such a homely feeling. One of the owners, Ashley Fox was sweet and she introduced herself to the people throughout the night and actually made real conversations with all of us. I found this gesture from her very sincere.
If ever I am in the neighborhood I will be visiting this place again!
Happy drinking!
Toodles~
I have never been to a piano bar until coming here and it was a lot of fun. We came as a part of the Yelp event and even with a good amount of people the service and food were great.
The owner and all of the servers were super nice and accomodating. The piano players were awesome and did a good job of fulfilling requests and getting the audience participation.
Food was typical bar food with a few Irish staples thrown in there. They also had their rendition of jungle juice which I thought was quite funny. I thought jungle juice only existed in college dorms and seedy Isla Vista beach houses. I really wanted to try it and everyone seemed to be enjoying their cocktails.
It's a quaint little joint in downtown Danville and draws a crowd. I would definitely bring friends here for a fun night out!
I love McGah's! It has become a family favorite.. we live in Discovery Bay and love to celebrate our Birthdays, Sharks playoff games, the fact that its Wednesday at McGahs! The wine is fantastic, the beer is fresh, the food is wonderful.. Caprese Sandwich is my favorite! The atmosphere is fun and interesting.. I have spent a good 20 minutes walking around looking at the sports history that is displayed here. Piano nights are the best.. Dave and Travis are the best dueling pianists I've ever come across. McGah's has a great atmosphere, is family friendly and a wonderful place to spend an evening!!
Review Source:My wife and I wandered in here for lunch and what a pleasant surprise. Â Great bar and the menu choices are unbelievable. Â I had the Irish Rubin and it was one of the best rubins I have ever had. Â I will have to return as there are so many different items on the menu that I definitely have to try. Â The cocktails aren't too shabby either.
Review Source:This place is ok. Prices are way higher than the value you get so expect to pay a pretty penny for average food. Service is good at first but then it takes forever to get a check so if you are in a hurry be sure to tell them. Fun if you come here for the pianos and then mosey on over to Elliott's for a good stiff drink.
Review Source:Yummm! Used to be "That Bar" in Danville but has recently changed to McGah's Pub. From what I can see this place has definitely changed for the better! Came here for lunch and it was delicious, (highly recommend the tostada salad with spicy shrimp.. I've been craving it ever since). Everyone in my party loved what they ordered, and everyone can't wait to come back again! Also, great spot to grab drinks ;)
Review Source:I guess it's my personal preference but this place has its pros and cons.
Pros. Always a decent crowd. But way too small to be comfortable. I thing the fire department is going to be paying a visit.
Nice service sometimes. I get good service with some staff and bad with others. I wish I k we what I did?
Drinks are WEAK unless u are the rep barfly in the area. No names mentioned. Lol
The food is good but used to be better. That said its still better than most. Large portions.
The entertainment is great if u have never been here or u have a large party. But as a regular it gets old as they play the same songs and same jokes. And DUK is it LOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUDDDDDDD here
All being said. Glad they are here in dtown.
McGah's physically looks the same as before. maybe a few more flatscreens. menu has irish items, burgers, fish & chips. 3 choices of fried items for $7 looks tasty.
pour: Harp draft(5)
-fresh, not flat
-just 6 drafts, but 20 labels are available in bottles $4.5 and down.
on draught:
-wait staff very welcoming, friendly...
-one patron seem in shock/dismayed when he saw me.
-many kinds of bourbons, hard liquor in stock.
-looks like a neighborhood watering hole.
-limited seating at bar, lots at tables nearby.
I think this place is the most fun I've had in Danville since we moved. The crowd can vary from night to night and I appreciate that because it means it appeals to all. I love that my husband and I can take our daughter with us to a place other than a pizza parlor and have a great time! I know we're going to become regulars here. When we don't have our daughter, we truly enjoy the dueling pianos! It really makes the atmosphere different and enjoyable! Plus, you can't beat their pizza deals. Oh and their sweet potato fries are divine!
Review Source:I love love this place. The decor, the food, the staff; it's all amazing. They still have dueling pianos from 8:30pm-12:30am and they blow the roof off the place. With the new name (used to beThat Bar) and decor it feels more family friendly. They've got 9 huge t.v.s throughout so no seat is a bad seat for sports viewing. The food is incredible. Irish Reuben comes with a housemate slaw and Irish bacon.... If u had never had Irish bacon ur missing out. The staff always goes above and beyond to accommodate. I really recommend trying out McGah's Pub & Pianos; they've really outdone themselves.
